Yep, the HD really did show up yesterday, in the morning. He was only here about 10-15mins and was really nice. He came in looked/ smelled around (lol), and said there was nothing wrong with my house. It doesn't smell funky, cabinets are not falling down. I just can't sell anymore until I get my license. He gave me some contacts to get me started.

Exactly! I have several cake friends "in the biz" both legal and not (he he) and I'm sure I can get all of them to mail of all of these letters. Hmmmm, wonder if I can get my non caker friends to mail off some, too? I'm sure my friends that have been buying from me would mail off a letter! Especially if I type it out for them, address the envelope, put the stamp on it, and all they have to do is sign it! lol

Don't know if this was done yet, as I'm a couple of pages behind (okay, more like four....), but since I did this for someone else who PM'd me this morning, here goes:
Okay, right now I think we're up to 121 pages, so I actually have to catch up a bit this morning, but here's what we have so far:

KTbug was having her daughter's birthday about 40 miles away from home and wanted to find a baker closer to the venue. So she got SpencersMom's name fromt he yellow pages and a website.

KTBug ordered a sheet cake and cupcakes decorated to look like teacups for $50. $25 deposit and balance upon pickup.

Turns out KTB had to go to the mall the day before the party. So she and her mother picked up the order since they were "right there" any way and actually arrived a little earlier than they had said they would. Mom waited in the car while KTB went in the house.

Before entering, KTB said she could already smell something bad. Upon entering, she alleged that the kitchen was full of pet hair, stank, and was dirty. The cabinets were basically falling off the walls/doors falling off of cabinets, etc. There was grease and dirt on the mircrowave and refrigerator. She felt funny confronting SM so she paid the balance and took the cupcake box which was nothing more that an unstable shirt box and SM, I believe, carried the cake. The boxes went into the trunk after the items were shown to the mother who was sitting in the car smoking with her ashes long enought to fall off and possibly land on the cake or cuppies.

According to SM, she made a $10 tip; KTB said maybe she mixed up her money and it's possible, but she definitely didn't intend to tip SM. KTB then called the Health Dept on SM. Now enters CakeLurker a friend of SM who wants to defend SM. Her first piece of evidence that KTB is lying is that the refrigerator isn't even in the kitchn!! How would KTB know is was dirty. The cabinets are not falling down and things aren't dirty and KTB just exaggerated everything, if there was something to complain about in the first place.

Few pages later, CL mentions that SM is at a party that CL herself had RSVP'd no to a couple of days (or weeks) ago. When SM calmed down, she even posted pictures of her kitchen (which were fine - a little dated, but clean and fine. Nothing like KTB had described). Health inspector passed SM.

Nobody got banned. It was a CC problem once again and more than one member got thatmessage.

All the other, non SM, CL and KTB stuff involves people Googling their names (this came up because members were trying to figure out where this all took place) and one member found that a pink-haired stipper was using the same name as her. There's a great recipe for Poutuguese soup, and Bacon Spaghetti, too. And some great photos of a man wearing nothing but a teacup and another one whose hand was dipped into chocolate (that you've got to see, really can't be described well - oh, what gorgeous eyes!!).

Of course, the subjects of living in Alaska, having the original topic settled/investigated by a judge, jury and Columbo and Monk, old age, topless young men in kitchens, finding out your teenage daughter is sexually active, what are and how to use emoticons, etc. also all came up in this thread. You really have to read it to understand.

HTH.

I have been sitting here reading the posts, I had to stop at page 24 - just don't have the time to read it all.

My thoughts on the matter are this:

1 - OP should have said something to the baker, no matter how polite she is! I would hope that if there were issues, my customers would say something to me.

2 - I applaud CL for defending her friend.

But in the mean time - it made for great reading!

My kids played sports for years and the best advice I ever got about smelly sports shoes or skates was to take newspaper and stuff the shoes tight with it overnight. The paper absorbs the odors and sweat from the shoes dramatically.

Thank you for the newspaper advice!! I'm going to try it tonight on my 15 yo boys shoes!! icon_lol.gif

Yes of course it can't hurt And I'm not in the cold water brigade here I'm just giving a heads up. Besides the state regulations and probably more important are the local ones.

Some localities could care less so have at it.

Some places like mine are opposite. The state allows it and my locality doesn't.

But you have far and away more red tape/headaches with the local authorities 'cause there's zoning, health, the code boys, licensing, lotsa different taxes etc.

And the update>>>>

The op is mia. Although she was offered/given free cake deco lessons.

Cakelurker is being nominated for "friend a of lifetime." We should all be so lucky to have a friend like her.

Our cakebaker, SpencersMom, was visited by the health department. They found nothing untoward on her premises. The inspector told her to remove the website basically quit advertising and gave her some brochures she needs to see about getting legal. And pretty sure he said not to bake for sale until she gets licensed. Then it remains to be seen if she can indeed become licensed or not.

No fine, no odors and surprise surprise no op.

So she dodged the bullet, posted pictures of her kitchen and she has baked some really cute cakes I love the fishy!!

Oh, ok...

Let me see if I can help you with the emoticon question, go to this link:
http://www.myemoticons.com/emoticons/smiley-in-action/coffee.asp

and you see this code:
<img src="http://www.myemoticons.com/emoticons/images/msn/smiley-in-action/coffee.gif" border="0" alt="Coffee" title="Coffee" />

BUT, in order for the code to WORK you can only copy this part of it, http://www.myemoticons.com/emoticons/images/msn/smiley-in-action/coffee.gif

So, after you've highlighted and copied that particular part of the code, you come back to the message you want to put it in and at the right top of the message page you will see an Img button (it's between the List= and URL buttons).

Now you click the Img button, then paste the code (remember ONLY use the part I showed you!)...then click on the Img button again.

And Whallla!!

Hope this works for you!!! thumbs_up.gif
