I was gonna say, PieceofCake, that the cake was positively gorgeous! The cross one? Not so much. icon_razz.gif It's not THAT bad though! I've definitely seen (and MADE worse!).

I laughed at the Hello Kitty cake...actually, I did a HK cake today at work! (Although it was a plastic kit cake as I work in a supermarket bakery.) Did ya trace it out beforehand? I always trace something before I freehand! (I SUCK at drawing!)

Bonjovibabe, that wouldn't be so bad....minus the big flowers! If I end up with icing that's too soft, I usually do either drop flowers (with a real drop flower tip) or imitation drop flowers with a tip 5 or whatever...kinda like yours but with about 5 petals and a small center...and no dot on top! (Actually, the more I look at them, the more I think they look like something else! Tiny boobs perhaps? LOL) Your border looks great, I just wouldn't pick those colors!

Spotty, I posted a comment on the monkey thread......icon_wink.gif

i need to dins the picture and scan it. several years ago i was in a cake deco class and one of the things we did was make tree stumps from cupcakes. I LAUGHED and laughed and i still laugh when i come across the picture i took of a STUMP that i made. I'm sure the knowledge will come in handy but its just a funny thing to learn!
(umm.... i may just not get out much as well! lol)

The worst cake that i have ever done was for my mortal enemy that married my cousin. After I purpously left out some flavorings, my little girl took a huge hunk out of the middle of the cake so I cover it up with about 2 1/2 cups frosting. Needless to say she doesn't ask me to make her bday cakes anymore, just her kids' who I just adore. My cousin thought it was hilarious because normally I 'm a real sweet person. No pics were taken though. It would have ruined my rep.

I was thinking that I could make a blue/red spiral center for this cake to go on the patriotic table....needless to say, that wound up a nasty shade of gray. Then add the ugly stars that I had some problems with....ick.

UGLY! However, my borders look great. LOL

The one and only cake I have in my gallery is my worst. I just moved from NJ to TX and I am still trying to get down how the humidity works here. The cake was a 3 tier strawberry cake with BC. Well, shortly after frosting it (perfectly, I might add) it started to melt down the sides of the cake. Almost like a waterfall. So I threw it in the freezer for a few minutes and then took it out. And it started to run AGAIN. I started freaking out and trying to think how on earth I could masquerade this disaster. So I made white choclate curls and plastered them to the sides of the cake. And low and behold, it looked like a mosaic. I wanted to throw up. icon_mad.gif

Oh, I love this topic. We really should have these cakes added to the gallery.

Well, this is my worst cake so far. It was the 2nd cake I've ever done, and I absolutely hate it. This was supposed to be a clown cake for class 1, but I am scared of clowns. icon_eek.gif So, I made a barbie doll cake instead. My icing wasn't thick enough, so she sank down into the cake. The teacher suggested turning her into a mermaid and using piping gel and coloring to make a lake. The first response most people ask is 'What the heck is that supposed to be?' Not exactly the response I wanted to hear, but I guess it's better than 'Oh, I am NOT eating that.' haha

And what is with the barbie's hair???? She looks like she is stuck in the '50's or something! She is almost as scary to me as the clowns are.

I don't have a picture of my ugly cake. It was so ugly I wanted to cry. On the positive side, it tasted really good and everyone who came into dh's office for some raved about it!

It was a chocolate cake with peanut butter buttercream filling, and chocolate frosting on top. The cake came out of the pan with a lopsided side. The chocolate frosting would not lay flat. The best part about it was the white stars around the top and bottom edges to hide the gaps, and the birthday message in the middle. When I got it to dh's office it had to sit for about 45 minutes before we could cut into it because he was in a meeting. <sigh> Trust me folks, it was pretty darn ugly.

fourangelsmommie ..It looks like the grass and a whale are in competition on who is going to eat her first. I think the grass is winning. Jk It looks like a lot of work maybe a different color tail would help next time.

Hey, Im new to this website.. and the fine art of decorating cakes in general. I've been followin this all day, about dieing of laughter and felt the need to post my own disaster. I don't have a picture because I'm too cheap to invest in a digital camera, and too lazy to scan pics, so I'll try for a description^^. Bear with me... I tend to not describe things well... This was my first ever decorated cake... it hated me from the start^^ First off, I had virtually no time to make it, like... 3 cheap plastic tips, and almost no supplies. I got a call from a friend saying that she was moving and that we were going to have a moving party that night... so me, being the excited overachiever, and itching to try my hand at actually decorating a cake for once promised to bring a cake... I decided to use a recipe I found in the little booky thing that came with our mixer.. it was supposed to be a simple white cake with mini chocolate chips in it... well, I knew from the start that it would be terrible. My first hint was when the cake batter was more like cookie dough than cake. Second problem, I was out of mini chips so I decided to use big ones anyway... somehow, even though the batter was more like playdough than anything they STILL managed to be too heavy and sink to the bottom. I put put the mess in the oven thinking "what do I know anyway, it's a new redipe.. maybe thats the way it's supposed to be" Needless to say, either I was wrong.. or the recipe was terrible.. it came out looking like two big cookies.. about an inch thick and weighing more than I do. BUT, I put them aside and went on to the icing thinking maybe they'd taste better than they looked. they didn't. After one broke in half removing it from the pan I decided to sample my work.. and about died.. they sort of tasted like playdough too... needless to say.. I decided to just chuck em out the door... literally. I was getting crunched for time so I threw together a betty crocker cake mix, which i hate doing. I cooled them, broke one getting it out of the pan... so decided to make a single layer cake... which I thought I'de decorate with BC frosting.. but I messed up on the frosting and accidentally put granulated suger instead of powdered.. it was a whipped gloppy sticky mess. The cake would have ended up looking alright, I did a basked weave, which turned out pretty good, but the frosting was too thin for any sort of flower, and I had never heard of drop flowers.. so I improvised.. and kept adding more and more... the thing looked like the litte shop of horrors plants.. it was that bad. But my friend loved it and said it was the best tasting cake she'd ever had, so I suppose that s all that matters right?^^ I believe I've been inspired to take classes lol. Sorry this turned out so long, but I'm terrible at summerizing. Anyway, I hope to soon be posting pictures of non-killer cakes soon. I'm the designated baker in the family and have about 12 birthdays coming up^^

Bouncyboing, those do NOT belong here! I see nothing wrong with the Thomas cake! Although I can't see most of the football cake (an image issue, I presume), there isn't anything wrong there either, I'm sure!
