Cyndi1207: I think for the first this is very good, true strawberry short cake is a little chubby but who wouldn't be with a name like that! (you are just telling the truth
) Fondant looks easier than it is I know.
shelain22: This is very artistic, and it looks ok. I would go with a different color than that light green. Pea green and cake just does not sit right with me. Other than that it looks ok, you did a good job.

I don't know those booties were a while ago and they still beat my ugly thing. Although I am sure this thread will last a long time...any bets on how many pages it will go up to? I say about 81 pages.
I have one! I have one! Just did this one this week. It totally did not turn out how I had pictured in my head. I have seen so many cute flip flop cakes, and I wanted to do something different for my mom's birthday, so I gave it a try. Mind you this was the 3rd cake on made this day, and I was getting a little tired of it! I let my 4 year old son decorate the sides. By this time I just didn't care.
This must be chewies mothers flip flops... JK
They are a good first try, and as I go on in life I learn that nothing turns out as it does in my head. You did a good job and with the cakes in your profile I am sure the next time they will look like they do in your head if not better. ![]()

I dont think that those booties were ugly......just more like.."what?...why are there five? hehe"
And..as I said before...I think the thread will always continue on because...theres always going to be a baddddd cake made. ANd Im sure Ill be able to always contribute for sure! ![]()
I posted about this cake before but my friend just sent me pics of it so I thought I would contribute a picture for a good laugh for y'all.
I don't know what is up with the turrents and it is soooo short! Only one of my horses made it to the cake and the carriage is broken in the front. The kids all made up stories about witches casting spells on what was once a beautiful castle to make it look like this. It was really funny.
OK, so I thought I would NEVER post this cake anywhere!!!! So I guess this is the place it belongs! My stepdaughter wanted a cheerleader cake, so I scoured Wilton books and saw this in purple. She wanted pink. Poor cheerleader has orange skin, no neck and a discolored uniform.
Should have done it in purple. Scary thing is - this is NOT my worst cake, just the only really bad cake I took a pic of.
This is my worst cake. I absolutely can NOT do drop flowers. I had bought some one time from a store but on this cake I attempted to try them myself. My parents had been vacationing in Florida for three months and had just returned home. I was going to see them and wanted to bring something special. It sucked but you know parents, they loved it anyways! Course this picture was taken before I left the house.....Scary story - My one year old son locked himself in the car when we got there. So we were waiting on my husband to come with the spare key to get him out. During the hysteria of it all my son sat on the cake!
After we got him out he got lots of kisses and a brand new toy from Mommy! And Mommy got a spare key made for herself!!! ![]()
tiptop57...ROFLMAO I was going to make a joke too but I think yours works even better. ![]()

omg...I so wish i had a pic of my worst cakes...i have 2 in mind...one that i hope i can find and scan and add here...the other i dont think i have a photo of...the worst was a green and yellow sheetcake for my daughters whole school ...for the graduation from elementary school. it was God-awful...crooked lettering...butt-ugly colors.....unlevel.....<shudder>
Hi everyone! I am a lurker on the cake central boards but rarely post anything. Last week I found this post and I sat ALL DAY reading it and laughing! All I could think about was my shark cake... but I couldn't find the picture! Well... I finally found it!
Sadly, this was not even one of my first "carved" cakes. But for the life of me I couldn't seem to get this one right. I don't know how to even describe it! But, I was so embarassed that I refuse to post it on my website! A friend of mine who attended the party said that everyone there loved it... I think they must have all be on something to have loved this cake! Anyway, I have never successfully posted a picture here but I'm gonna try! Hope it works...
In the North American oceans there lurks a species of horrible fierceness. The Guppy Shark is one of the more fearsome creatures Alive. Don't be thrown off by its cute looks this creature can tear through a piece of cake in 8.5 seconds. A loaner by nature this magnificent creature is normally spotted at small parties. If you come across this creature beware and do not keep eye contact what ever you do!![]()

sooooooooo funny............I really don't think that shark cake is that bad!!! We are our own worst critics that's for sure..............yukisaru..........oh, that's sooooo funny!!!!
Found one...I also have it in my photos.
Never heard of this site before my attempt at a "3-D" cake. It also didn't help that it was really hot outside. It's supposed to be a john boat.
The back fell off of the boat, and the posts sticking out of the cake are straws in an attempt to keep the cake from falling apart any farhter.
I think if I had use 2-3 cakeboards and some dowels to begin with my cake would have had a chance.
Hmm...looking at this cake makes me want to try it again soon.
here's mine..this was my first cake and i did not even know how to make borders..i would not even attempt to call them borders..i used a ziploc to pipe the "thing"..i put a lot of crisco to the fondant and it looked so oily! but let me tell you guys that i was so proud of myself that time because it was my first cake..
my poor DH was forced (by yours trully) to say that it looked good!
i almost took this out of my gallery, but what the heck, i want to see the "evolution" of my work..
gads, I never thought of taking a photo of my worse cakes! I will have to see if I can find some of my early cakes...some of them were pretttyyy bad!
And some of you guys are posting some really cool cakes!!!! You sure they ar your worse? hahahha!
I have another one to add. It's a sad, sad little cake. I had just finished a corset/ boob cake for someone and was absolutely beat. I had a leftover 6" and some buttercream, so I figured would be a nice mom and decorate a cake for the kids, to let them know what a good job they had done in school.
Yes, there are crumbs in the icing, I just told the kids that it was cookies n' cream flavor...they bought it! ![]()
And under absolutely no circumstances ever let me write on a cake after 10:00pm again, bad, bad things happen.LOL!!!
Here it is...
I know this thread has not been added to in a while, but I had such a good laugh (my DH thinks I went nuts!!, he just doesn't understand), I just had to share. Here goes:
#1 is supposed to be an ice cream cake made by softening to containers store bought ice cream and freezing it in a pan. Problem #1, I started at 5 oclock, we ate at 7, and of course it was still soft!! Problem #2, I'm not very good at writing on cakes and this was my first try.
#2 is a cake i decided to make when i saw a box of fondant in a store and i decided, hey i can do that. baked a cake, didn't torte (what's that?), didn't ice it, just draped the fondant over it and smoothed with my hands. tried, unsuccessfully, to make roses, which i just put anywhere. i wanted to dump it, my DH was so proud, insisted on taking a picture, hence the evidence, and give it to a friend of his. instead, i brought it to my MIL's house to share with the family. of course, oohs and aahs, we cut it open, and i had mixed up baking soda and baking powder, it was not edible!!
#3 is a cake i tried to decorate with melted chocolate when it was too hot. wanted a chocolate border, when it started running down, i played along, just plain ugly
#4 is not really a cake, but what was i thinking with that color?? and why did i think it's nice to make each one different, some outright wierd.
i guess we live and learn, it's great to laugh. BTW, thanks!! My recent successes are only b/c of what i read on this site (no courses here), some even from this thread - i learned from your mistakes.
happy baking
