I happen to think Barbie looks like Anna Nicole Smith's mug shot (you know the one they always show on her E! True Hollywood Story).

What a GREAT thread!

LOL.. Well it was christmas day and we were planning to go visit family. I wanted to make a dessert to bring so I attempted the cake. When we were at home I didn't think to take a picture. So while on our way there we stopped at a gas station for gas and I used my husbands camera phone to take the picture.

Well, I've just had the best afternoon reading all these posts. My worst cake would be the first one I ever actually tried to decorate. It was right before I signed up for classes and it's store bought icing. I had no idea what I was doing. It turned out okay for a first cake and the kids loved it. I still have a hard time with the less is more concept LOL.

This was not my first cake ever, nor my worst but it is the worst i have a picture of. we had just gotten custody of one of our kids and it was his first birthday with us. since he is into Japanese history and collects antique Japanese swords i thought i would make his a cake with a dragon on it and write Happy Birthday Dusin in Japonese.

As you can see, the dragon looks more like a underfed mangy Irish Setter than a dragon and i don't think there is a Japanese person around who would tell you that what i wrote actually says Happy Birthday Dustin.

Like many of you, this was pre-torting, pre-learning how to make icing, and pre-knowing there was anything to make a cake in other than a 9x13 pan.

Ya'll have to stop! This is too dang funny. The NEWTODECORATING chewy cake did me in.

Honestly, this explains a lot. When I first join and would do searches for awesome cake ideas, I kept coming across these really "beautiful" cakes that didn't match up with the truly gorgeous cakes in the gallery. Now I know!

Ok...I never thought I would show this cake to anyone. Except of course the people who were unwittingly subjected to it at my daughter's birthday party. Thankfully in their inexperience, they thought it was cool. Gulp...I can't agree.

I have to go back and read this entire thread when I have more time. I've been dying laughing for half an hour and only got through the first 13 pages! you all are just to funny. i never took photos of my "worst" cakes either. The turkey cake who's tail feathers split the back side off was my biggest disaster. Since it was for immediate family only, I didn't bother trying to re-do the thing. My second daughter's Ariel cake, the entire top layer split in half when I was trying to prop the molded chocolate shell on top of the bottom shell. So I ended up baking an entire top layer again at midnight and re-doing the decorating the following morning when it had time to cool. Fortunately, the party was not till 3PM so I had time to remove the destroyed beyond repair layer and put a new one on there. The worst ones I took photos of would probably be the care bears cakes I tried to do for my youngest daughters 2nd birthday. Very sad little creatures. You can only tell they are care bears by the rainbow and flower on their chest. I just claimed they've been out in the heat to much and melted away (although that's a hard one to get away with at the end of October).

Ok, after finally finishing all 36 pages and getting several dirty looks from my b/f for laughing during his movie I have decided the first pics I post be to this thread.

First cake...."Battlefield"....Ok so it all started when I used two cake mixes in an obviously too small pan. I had to overcook the entire cake to get the center to cook completely. I kept watching the cake to see if it had finally completely overflowed into the oven yet and amazingly it didn't. I had to trim the enormous hump out the center and the burnt edges off. Not knowing anything about crumbcoating or freezing I iced the cake and managed to get the entire thing covered in crumbs. Luckily it the chocolate cake flowed with the "dirt" look. My b/f helped with the positioning of the army men. The cake turned out alright, but was a pain.
Second bad cake..."Carebear"...This cake was sooooo much fun to do. My bestfriend and I decorate cakes and we could only laugh the entire time we were decorating this. We both had to be up early in the morning to work long shifts and it was very late so we begin rushing. Instead of doing different colors for the outline and such we just used one color. The color was too close to the color we used to fill in the rest. Then I tried to use a wet finger to smooth certain areas and cover mistakes but that didn't work. The sides of the cake are pitiful, I don't know what happened with that. To say the least we had fun. What is so bad is that I cut half the cake for her to take with her...then we all left with the cake on the counter to drop her off...when we came home Scooby (mil's dog) had eaten and arm and half the rainbow.

Ok, Here is my disaster, its the flower pot cake that shrink after I baked it. Ok, first I don't know how to do flowers from gum paste on wire, my roses are flat I tried to put a mound of icing under them for some height but it didn't seem to work. So anyway, here it is.
