Gosh, some of your worst cakes look better than my best cake!
The worst cake I ever did was my sisters wedding cake two years ago. She was getting married for the second time to a man with the last name Shrek. So she wanted a wedding topper with the Shrek character. I did a wonderful job making the topper, but then came the cake. I didn't realize when you made a wedding cake you had to make two layers for each cake. So it was so horrible looking that everytime someone asked her who made her wedding cake at the reception, she would look at me and I would shake my head at her and give her an evil eye. She wouldn't tell them it was me. She just kind of changed the topic.
Told her she better make this marriage last, because I would never do another wedding cake again.
I was so ashamed of it, I wouldn't even take a picture of it. I will see if she happens to have one that maybe I can post, and you all can fall out of your chairs laughing at.
On the bright side though, I did the grooms cake and it looked fairly decent.
Peggy
Finally found a picture of it: here goes, and no laughing out loud!
from what I can see of the toppers they look amazing!!!! The cake however...I don't think it's that bad....kinda thin layers, but other than that........not sooooooo bad!!!
Okay I am laughing non stop. I knew I had some bad cakes but you all are professionals.... at what you ask? I am not sure any more. I feel so much better that I am not the only one. Thanks yall for making me fell a lot better about my work. I am going to keep watching this one so I can see more. My DH is watching too he is just laughing at the stories, but he still thinks mine are the worst.
I'm glad you all like my Lady bug!
There are some great pics in here!
GE...some of your cakes....I'm not sure what to think Pretty funny!
(Just a side note: did someone really order the "bride" cake or who was that for? Its nuts!
ninkysue....LOL!! Isn't is terrible that we have to learn the hard way? The best thing about every one of us is that we at least try!
It cracks me up that this post is STILL this funny!!!!
ge ...you are too much!!! I love that you can laugh so well at your cake mistakes!!! But I have to say.....since the booties....you've come a long way baby!!! hahaha
that purple sax killed me!!! I thought that would've beena perfect color for Dino...then I moved up the mouth piecce and realized it was Dino's head!!!
I've said it before andI will keep saying it.....I love that we can see these and then look in that person's photo gallery and see what wonderful cakes they make now!!
This thread is so encouraging!!! I thought I was the only one who made such tragic errors! You're all very brave to have actually taken photos of your disasters! My husband has been given strict warning that if he comes near a cake that I'm not happy with with his camera, well, let's just say he'll be walking funny for a long time!!

If you screw it up bad enough the first time, then things can only get better from there. LOL!
Someone somewhere should make a contest out of the worst cake you could possible make.
Some of these cakes make me feel very good about myself, no offense to anyone...you have to start somewhere and you learn from mistakes.
I forgot about this cake. I was looking through my good cake pictures, i guess this was suppose to BE a GOOD cake. I hadn't noticed how bad it looked until I saw the pictures.( It was suppose to look like Martha Stewarts) The kids had fun with it though my nefews son was pulling little carrots out and eating them like bugs bunny. I think the kids had more fun harvesting the vegetables than eating the cake.
My DH says I'll take pictures of anything> I never thought about it before but maybe he's right. Lucky Ive changed over to digital. I can delete the evidence.
I was crying I was laughing so hard. You guys are such good sports. Ok, I found another.
One of the first cakes I had ever did. It was for my mom's 40th birthday and I was 18 at the time. The roses are all cracked at the edges and the leaves are a lovely shade of lime green. After that cake I swore I would never do string work again, and I have lived to the promise to this day. She being a good mom acted like she loved it, since I was so proud of it. Two years later, she still swears she really did love it. She does point out how much I've improved over the last two years.
peachshortcake: i was looking through your pictures & I have to say you make beautiful flowers!!
I'm serious you guys...i never knew how many bad cakes I had until I started going through all my pictures I've only been decorating for 8 months & I've found at least 7-8 really ugly or odd cakes. I look at them and go WHAT WAS I THINKING??
This next one is a cake that was supposed to be for my neighbor...she's a nurse & was taking it into work. I was going to put a FBCT of something to do with the hospital, but this is what I ended up with:
Now tell me how you go from transfer to piling it up with brownies? I don't know where I come up with these things...on the bright side she said they devoured it & thought it was really cool
My worst cake wasn't photographed! I guess when I mess up I don't have much of a sense of humor about it, but love that you've all been brave and willing to let me see that I'm not the only one out there who has had some cake disasters! I need to lighten up about my own cakes... learning a lesson here!
Hey, the way the page was on my computer, I could only see the top 1/3 of what looked like a lovey plate of brownies.
Scroll down and OH MY! That poor FBCT must have been really bad to deserve the 'brownie treatment".
I'll bet it was really tasty.
Thanks for sharing.

Wendysue: I looked on your website & you have done some great cakes...I didn't use to have a sense of humor about it either. I felt that every time I messed up on a cake it was somehow a reflection on me personally. I think we put so much pressure on ourselves & have such high expectations that we are never going to live up to them.
Guys, if I can post these cakes then you can certainly show us yours!! Don't be shy...all messed up/ugly cakes are welcome!!
Thanks for the compliment ge978! I have found a cake that I'm not especially proud of, so I'll post it here.
This is just ugly. I had it on my blog, but soon removed it.
I went a little crazy with the Crisco and had a shiny Barney.
Twinsline and ge, thanks for your overly kind words (really...overly kind!) I'll keep slugging along.....
I took photos of everything I did since I started "decorating", even the really crappy ones so I can see--someday!--how far I've come.
Glad to see this thread is still going!
I am still loving looking at this thread. There are a lot of comments about how proud we were at the time of cakes that we now say 'What was I thinking?".
I just want to say we likely were right to be proud at the time. With those cakes we had accomplished something that we had not done before. Now we have learned and practiced and are improving our skills but most of all we are having FUN. It would not matter how beautiful our cakes were if were not enjoying what we do.
Just think how boring it would be if all our cakes were easy for us and came out perfectly. I know that I am in no danger of getting bored anytime soon!
Cindy
On the way to the party, I looked down at the cake and thought it should have been Dino from the flint stones. At least now I know how I could make him if one is ever needed.. LOL
I didn't read the description but just looked at the picture and I was wondering why someone wrote on Dino's butt and where his tail went. LOL
mommachris: believe me the BCT was that bad ...of course a cake is never so bad that it deserves what I did to it
Wendysue: ummm...uh..could you please tell me what's wrong with that cake? Your borders are good, your writing is beautiful & looks like Barney to me. I think you are way to hard on yourself. I know this post is about worst cakes, but hon, I don't think that's it.
Zamode: believe me they are not undeserved compliments...seriously you have got smoothing & roses down. Those are two very important parts of decorating...I should know - I can't do either
ge978,
Once again you're very sweet. I don't think fondant is supposed to shine like this. I wasn't happy with it.
Oh, Shrek is cute! Now Chewbacca......he looks a little like a big, angry beaver.

big angry beaver - ROFL
Discolady: baby booties on cocaine...where do you come up with this stuff
Since I am a newbie at this decorating thing the worst was the one I did for the super bowl, I didn't get a photo of that one, but the next uglest one is my first Wilton cake. It wont attach, but is in my photos. (the rainbow)
