Well, I have been following this post all day. In a sick sort of way it makes me feel better about my cake attempts! LOL
I have not taken pictures of most of my bad cakes but I had to post this one after reading Parismom's comments. This was my typical cake until I decided to try something 'fancier' as my little boy got older.
I wonder if the missing bootie stepped on the ladybug?
Cindy
OMG crp7 that is EXACTLY WHAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!! MY CLASSIC CAKES OF THE PAST...
GREAT STUFF!!!! I LOVE IT!
Well, I have some rather disappointing news to report. I just made my worst cake ever and I am unable to upload a pic b/c the digital camera is dead. Also, we have already started consuming the tragedy.
It was suppose to have been a St. Patrick's Day cake. Well, it is green with decorations that somewhat resemble clovers.
It is sooooo hot in my house that my icing was melting. It was just for practice, thank god!
I was thinking too....I want to go make an ugly cake so i can eat it!!!
So many many ideas to choose from...but of course I think I know which one I will choose.......ge can I borrow your baby bootie pan???....except I don't have that much powdered sugar!!! ![]()

well if it make syou feel any better ge...you can know that that hideous christmas tree I did...I kid you NOT took me 2 hours!!!!! it kept falling over!!!! I knew nothing of a dowel or a stick for that matter!!! i kept trying to glue it together with more icing!!!
Oh yes icing - the beginners answer to doweling
I think I might of made the booties out of cupcakes...which is even worse because at least with the pan you have no control over how big they come out...I had the option of making them smaller...did I?..nooooooooooooo.
Do you ever start doing something & know is bad, but just keep going? Like I thought they would get better/smaller as I went ![]()

Ok, you all have to admit, this here is the ugliest cake there ever was! The red icing bled through the image overnight and started turning the white truck a lovely shade of pink, I'm sure all of my husbands "manly tow truck driving" buddies really loved that lol! It wasn't really a "disaster" but it sure is UGLY LOL, I wished I had never put it in my pictures afterwards, but then I figured, well, I made it, might as well post it! But man is it ugly! ![]()
I think I could win that contest lol ![]()
Ok, it's not my worst cake, and I think the cake itself looks ok, it's those darn colors!!!!
Have to post the link, I'm at work and don't have the photo with me.

I've really enjoyed reading this post, keep 'em coming! I'll have to browse through some of my earlier photos and see what I can come up with.[/url]
You guys are just toooo funny! It's 2am & my dh wants to know why I can't stop laughing (he thinks I'm going to wake the kids) and just come to bed... I was so glued to my seat with this post... Too much fun stuff going on here.
Ok, I have a few horrible pictures for you but my worst cake happened just the other day & I did NOT take a picture of it. I was hopiong never to be reminded of it but I'll tell you about it....
Well first off, I thought I would play around with adding color to the cake (it was my first butter cake). I asked my 3 yr old dd what color & she said blue. So I added blue - looked good in the batter stage but when it came out of the oven it kind of looked like MOLD! Next part of this disaster is I tried making lemon curd for the first time but since it was only a small cake I cut the recipe in half..... all but the lemon juice that is because I got distracted by my crying 6 month old dd.... (seems to me this is really their fault so far - right??). (I didn't know at the time that I made this mistake.. keep reading to find out when I figured it out...) Next part of the disaster - I didn't wait until the curd cooled before filling the cake because it was really close to supper time so when I started icing it (with the BRIGHTER THAN THE SUN shade of yellow that I accidentally made the icing -this time distracted by my parents arriving for the supper I invited them over for - the cake was the dessert by the way) the top nearly slid off! Oh, and did I mention that I thinned the icing WAY too much so it almost didn't adhere to the cake either?! Anyways I still thought well, it looks like crap but surely it will at least taste ok... it was when I tasted it that I realized I hadn't halved the lemon juice in the curd and by that time everyone else had started eating it. It was AWFUL!!!! My loving parents ate the whole piece they were given all the while trying to convince me that it really wasn't that bad.... (I threw my piece in the trash - couldn't bear to eat it!!!) And that was to top off the meal that I made which was overcooked chicken (because I forgot to take it out of the oven when the timer went off because I was making the curd!!!).
Wow - didn't realize that would be such a long story! Sorry!
Ok -now the 2 pics - these were BEFORE I took any type of class ... my roses look like they were trampled and I went sprinkle happy on one of them!
Hope you enjoy laughing at them!
Oh - and in case you didn't notice I hadn't quite figured out that the leaves need to be the right proportion to the size of the rose!!
found an other one!
This one was made for my husbands birthday last august. My DS (6 years) wanted me to put a guitar on it, I just found out about fondant (the wilton stuf) and inside was cake (two layers) with strawberry jelly between the layers.
It tasted so sweet! my dentist could order a new swimmingpool ('
') ('
') ('lol')
and why did i ad the flowers and gras ('
')
well.... learned something....
oke, i really become a forum addict it's 10:40 am and i still have to get dressed... (and my children too)
Wow. She has a hairy chest!

She was supposed to have all this blond hair running down her back and be a beach bunny on her tummy but as you can see it went horribly wrong in the translation!!! lol
I never thought about her looking dead
. This was before the days of CSI-heehee!!
I had to explain to my husband too that he just wouldn't understand!!!
He gets home very late from work....he came home and asked how many cake people can honestly be on and be funny at that ...that late at night!!!! ![]()

I'm so impressed with everyone's openess on this thread! And I can't believe some of the "worst cakes" I'm seeing. Some of them are really good! (I love lastingmoments' Yoda head!) This is one of the reasons I LOVE THIS SITE.
I wish I'd known the numerous pics of my cake humiliations would come in handy one day but I didn't keep them. A brief catalogue:
My Course I "drop flowers" cake: My icing was leftover blue used to make the clowns in the same lesson. I'd handled the bag to much and it had that runny squishy texture. My flowers looked like toilet paper roses you buy at the fair. But not in a good way.
My Course III fondant package cake (do you see a trend with the classes, here?) I still can't cover cakes with fondant tosave my life. I had to use my flowers to randomly cover the holes and tears. So instead of nice, even disbursement, it looked like a kindergartner had gotten a hold of it.
My daughter's first birthday cupcakes. I can do a five-tier wedding cake, but I can't put initials on a dozen minicupakes for toddlers.
My pumpkin cake. First ever sculpted cake attempt. I tried piping orange icing onto a sculpted pumpkin. The icing peeled off of the cake. I had to ice it traditionally, then drag scoremarks through where the "divisions" on the pumpkins sections should have been. It was for a church bazaar and I told the organizers not tell anyone that I made it.
Keep the stories coming!

I have to say I am also very impressed with how well this post is going!!!! I am so glad nobody has taken offense or that anyone has gotten offensive!!!!
great job all ![]()
ge..thumbs up to you for starting a thread that didn't get locked!!!
This is my blue monster!!! My grandmother asked me to make a cake for her violet club, and this is what I came up with! The icing was sooooo blue and there was so much icing! Then, I find out she had wanted something very delicate and flowery!! YIKES, I guess you live and learn!
I really like it! I love the moon. Is that chocolate transfer?
Congrats ge....this post has almost 12000 views!!! That is CRAAAAAZY!!!
ge How's the painting going? If you sniff enough paint fumes we might get to see another bootielicious masterpiece!
I love CC, and GE: Great idea to start this post! I've only been decorating since November, so to see some people have "ugly" cakes, then to look at their gallery pics and see some awesome ones is encouraging to me!
I didn't want anyone to see this pic, but it's definitely my worst cake so far. My son was literally standing next to me the whole time asking "Can I have some now? How about now?" So I was rushing and didn't realize how many gaps I had in the frosting. It looks like a broken down jalopy!
My vote is for the ladybug or the "ugly barbie". (sorry)
Traci: I like the Ariel and the cockroach looks realistic to me! ewww...
Did psycho Barbie eat the bodies off these people? ![]()
This blue Volks bug is one of those cakes that just barely missed its potential of being a cute cake... its not a total wreck, but something is just off. The frustration lies in how close to being cute it is... does that make sense? This is how I feel about my FUNKY CHICKEN, it was so close yet so far...
The cuteness level of the bug really goes up if you visualize the heads as being drawn on by the people on the inside! I looked at it again with that in mind, and believe it or not it changed my perception of the cake!
Hey everyone!!
Newtodecorating: Thanks for asking about the painting...I guess its going okay - the color they mixed at the store doesn't match the color swatch I was going by
I sent my husband & he has a problem distinguishing certain colors so he didn't know it was off. I'm debating using the color though...it still kind of works with the couches. Arent' you glad you asked
I love that you said bootielicious!! That is soooooo funny!!
Okay I painted a little on the wall & it kind of looks like pea soup
maybe once it dries it will be okay...hmmm
Marina34: I'm so glad this thread encouraged you...I just wanted people to see that everyone has those cakes that are hidden in drawers, on computers, etc. that they never wanted anyone to see. Even the best decorators don't produce perfect masterpieces all the time.
And I totally looked at the car different once I imagined the faces being drawn from the inside ![]()
