White on white wedding cake: lace applique pieces; white sugar roses; ribbon; bow; and diamante brooch -and finished with a generous spray of PME pearl lustre. I've wanted to do a white on white wedding cake for a while. It's very wintery without actually having snowflakes on it, but would work equally well at any time of the year, really!
This is actually a half-completed wedding cake. But I liked it so much as it was, that I decided to photograph it before I added the lace applique pieces (in sugar, of course!) and the white sugar rose dome topper. I'm just putting the very final touches to the cake and then I will photograph it in the morning before delivery. It's amazing how very different the 'two' cakes look!
Wine Bottle in box/crate for my wonderful mother-in-law's 75th birthday luncheon today. It's a 12" x 7" rich fruit cake covered in marzipan and then the box panels were a 50/50 mix of pastillage and modelling paste. The bottle is entirely sugar (flower paste and modelling paste), with several layers of glaze and an edible image for the personalised label. The packaging is chopped white chocolate cigarellos. Next time, I would leave the panels of the box *even longer* to dry before fixing to the cake, because it was only after they'd been in place a few hours that I saw they had bowed slightly. :o(
My friend asked me on Saturday night if it was possible to make a cake for her daughter's birthday today? My son is going round there later, with some other friends, so I'm dropping round at the same time. 8" choc sponge cake with choc buttercream, covered with marzipan and sugarpaste, decorated with marshmallows and finished with a generous amount of pearl lustre spray! The mini marshmallows and lettering was painted with lustre.

Mortar board and scroll made from modelling paste (although there is a thin card supporting the square of the mortar board).
The theme of the party is Mission Impossible. So I was asked to make a cake that looks like a box of dynamite, with the Bar Mitzvah boy sitting on it, cutting the green wire coming from some dynamite! And she wanted M:I:13 on the box and "This cake will self-destruct if not eaten tonight" and "Zachary's Bar Mitzvah : Mission Successful. Quite a lot of words....
I'm afraid I don't know who to credit with the original cake design (customer showed me a pic of what she wanted) but I know the little sleeping baby/bear was originally by Frances McNaughton. I didn't have her book, so had to make it up as I went along!
9" round rich fruit cake, covered with marzipan and sugarpaste and decorated with modelling paste numbers (use Patchwork Cutters large number cutters) and Patchwork Cutters 'Fantasy Flowers'. I used duck-egg blue and teal, as these are colours mum loves, then soften it with a bit of pink. She's not a really 'frilly' type of person, so this cake was just right for her. She loved it! :o)

For a couple who love playing bridge and golf. I didn't want to make it too 'novelty' by doing golf clubs and balls, so I opted to use an argyle type pattern around the side. Life-sized playing cards made from modelling paste and edible images across the top. 12" rich fruit cake, covered with marzipan and sugarpaste.
The brief was a light purple cake with a model of the Bat Mitzvah girl sitting over the edge, holding a microphone. She sent me a pic of the dress her daughter will be wearing and asked if it's possible to have some sort of pink gem on the dress? So I coloured some piping gel pink and added glitter and piped tiny dots of it over the bodice and skirt. She also wanted glittery musical notes. The cake is a surprise for her daughter, who won't know anything about it until they bring it out at the party!!
3 tiers of vanilla sponge cake filled with buttercream and jam and covered with marzipan and sugarpaste. Modelling paste used for the drapes and the red roses were made using red flower paste and then dusted for an even deeper colour.
The customer asked for a pink cake with silver sparkly tiara, fairies and a large shimmery bow. We thought it would be cute to have the fairies holding the candles! 10" vanilla sponge cake with jam and buttercream, covered with marzipan and sugarpaste. Tiara made using the Patchwork Cutter tiara set.
The picture doesn't do justice to how deep each tier was - 5". The bottom tier alone weighed over 8kg. Bottom and 3rd tiers with a diamond pattern with silver dragee at each intersection; 2nd and top tiers plain, but with silver monograms on the 2nd tier, that exactly match the monograms on their wedding invitations. Hand-made sugar flowers and beaded wire on top tier.

10" rich fruit cake covered with marzipan and sugarpaste. Silver silhouettes done using Patchwork Cutter disco dancer set. I had hoped to do a set of dancers standing up on the top of the cake, but it's been so humid here that I didn't think I'd risk it!
Viva La Juicy perfume cake. 8" square vanilla sponge cake with jam and buttercream, covered with marzipan and sugarpaste. The logo is royal icing run-out, sprayed gold once completely dry.
