Hey I thought I would pop in.. I tried a couple of times and CC was down..

I have ha the crud also. Jord had it over Christmas and gave it to me. It is a head cold but I have lost my voice and it has been gone for about a week.. And with the week I have had I really needed it.. They are sying this thing lasts about 2 weeks..GGGGAAAHHH I hate this CRAP..

Ok tonight was breakfast for supper. Scarmbled eggs, hashbrowns and sausage..

Last night chicken nuggets and mac and cheese..

I have been so busy over Christmas and the New Year..

Mike's work is really scary right now like everyone else..We take it one day at a time and pray this will all get better SOON..Like everyone else times are tough.. I do have a paying cake for the 20th but a non pay for the 18th..I am working with a girl who runs a Knights of Columbus hall. They rent it out for weddings and such. We are planning bridal show of sorts. I will be making the cake for show and tasting So I have been searching trends and trying to figure out what I want to show..Hopefully this will boost my cakes and I can do it full time..And make more money than I do decorating cakes at the store.. Don't get me wrong I love working with the people. Just not the pay..I can't believe I have been there almost a year.. I have learned alot of tricks on decorating.. But now I wish I had a edible image printer, and a sprayer..I dream of the day I can have these..Makes life so much easier..

Well I better go for now..Hope I can pop back in really soon..I didn't have time to read up much.. I hope everyone is doing ok..And I love that my chair has been dusted off.. Thanks to my TWIN LOL

It's holiday season here and it's hot Hot HOT we had 3 days 42C (about 107F) thank goodness for a pool and air conditioning. Now the cool change has arrived and I'm in track pants with a jumper nearby icon_eek.gif , go figure.

Kay I understand about Mike's work when my DH lost his job it was really hard, thinking of you.

Janine glad your mum and dad are back on track, hope the computer follows.

butterflyjuju your baby is due near my birthday a Taurean we're really nice people icon_lol.gif

mklomar when you come to Oz make sure you let me know we'll have a ball, we'll eat and drink our way around and maybe we'll be able to see a few sights as well icon_wink.gif

Ohara sending good thoughts to you for 2009

Supper we've had a mix of stuff we went and saw Le Grand Cirque - Aerial Dreams (acrobatics and aerial acrobatics) it was really good, just love live shows, it was on at the Opera House in Sydney in the concert hall. We had dinner on the harbour watching the ferries and boats go by and all the people rushing to catch the train (or ferry) on the way home from work. Meanwhile I was eating grilled Jewfish with beans and kipfler potatoes on a seafood sauce, I was in heaven beautiful fish, don't know whether you have it there, if you do try it. Oh and drinking a beer (or 2) Heiniken(?) on tap watching the world go by. Gee lifes hard isn't it. That was courtesy of the money I'd made on cakes during the year, so it was well earned.

The rest of the week we've been eating salads and trying to stay cool.

Sending warm thoughts to all of you in your chilly part of the world thumbs_up.gif

I'm with you Kay...let's go to Sparkle's. More ice, snow here now and in a couple of days the arctic blast gets here.
Nothing new here. I am still trying to put the house back together from Christmas. I was sick most of last week. I am thankfully feeling better. It sure did slow me down. This is a short school week, only 4 days this week and only 4 next. I like quiet mornings, so that is ok with me.
My brother is in the hospital. We are really worried for him. We have no idea when he will get out. He had surgery and is a diabetic (who doesn't take any care of himself) and it will take him longer to heal. They are also teaching him to give himself injections and teaching him better "nutrition".
Knowing it and doing it are two different things. Maybe this will convince him to take care of himself.

Thursday was burritos, refried beans, chips and salasa
Friday I made sausage stew, served it with italain bread
Saturday I roasted a pork loin with potatoes, carrots and onions.
Sunday we had left overs for dinner.

I have no idea what we will have tonight. I do need to make a plan though. We have a middle of the afternoon appointment, so I won't be here to start dinner.
Try to have a good day ladies.

Sparkle--it just says patio steak on the outside of the package...lol. So I'm guessing it's a cut.

I'm ready for this winter to be over. Here it will be like in the 60s and 70s (F) one day and in the 30s the next. My poor kids have been sick nearly all winter. Viruses love this type of weather.

Kay--I always bake my fries but it's usually store bought. When I've tried the homemade ones they never turned out. Someone told me the trick was to blanche the potatoes strips first before baking or frying them. Worked really well.

Hi everyone. It's cold here too. It's been about 8 degrees today, and even colder tomorrow. This winter is brutal. It's sad when your best friend (mine) lives in Anchorage and has WARMER weather and less snow that us... icon_confused.gif

Tonight~ (I've been slacking... big time)
vegan "steak" strips (no, they don't taste like steak. Great for saute.
Tings (cause I'm too damn lazy tonight to turn the rice cooker on...)
oven roasted broccoli

I'm sorry to hear so many are having money issues. I think we can all relate to that right now. icon_sad.gif I wish we could all meet for coffee/tea and have a few great laughs. I think we could all use that right now.

butterflyjuju~ I miss the Wendy's superbar (from like, 1996!!) icon_rolleyes.gif
Mkolmar~ I hope your son is feeling better. icon_sad.gif
Kay~ I'll buy your recipe book! We're feeling the recession too. icon_sad.gif
Ohara~ I'm sorry to hear about your brother. I hope he'll be better soon. I also have a (sister) who doesn't take care of herself or her illness. It's painful to watch, isn't it? icon_sad.gif
Sparkle~ I made vegan schnitzel once... (kind of absurd, I realize but I'm German) We also tried vegan haggis (YES, I said vegan "haggis") in Scotland. We laughed so hard~ we had to try it... icon_lol.gif
janine1972 ~ I'm glad your folks are doing better. icon_smile.gif

talk later friends. icon_cool.gif

Anyone else having a hard time getting their kids to eat veggies in the winter. Mine will eat loads of veggies all summer but come winter they don't.

It was leftovers for supper..

JUJ I have a hard time period trying to get Brooke to eat veggies so I sneak them in stuff..When I make a casserole I always put a can of veggies in it.. or I sneak celery and carrots diced real small into stuff..Like chicken /beef and noodles it doesn't really change the taste but it's in there.. And Brooke loves taco salad so I make that alot. She will eat canned peas and corn.. But she doesn't care for alot of veggies..

K2 Yeah with my cookbook I would have to give you lots of things to sub LOL And I think my hands would hurt from all the typing LOL..Like ok you don't have elbow mac.. What do you have that you could sub?? half bag of rotini noodles, 1/4 bag extra wide noodles, a can of veg/beef soup or a can of tomato soup.. so here is a sample recipe.. MY GUNK Boil what ever noodles you can find..Drain Open up a can of soup whatever kind you have. Dump over noodles. Toss in any meat you have..Stir and warm up more if needed.. Voila supper You could even use rice LOL endsless possiblities unless you have no food at all in the house LOL Oh and Wendy's superbar I remeber those dang now I got hungry for it LOL Man that was a longtime ago..

Ok gotta go bake a cake

broccoli and tofu over brown rice

(I know, I eat LOADS of tofu...that's why I can lift a buick with one arm)

Well ladies, in 5 hours I'll be 35!!!! icon_eek.gif That's 1/2 way to 70... how did this happen? I don't feel old, but I realized some of my highschool friends have kids that are 16~ mine is only a toddler... she keeps me feeling young with all the tea parties and sledding. Well it's been hot Hot HOT here today 43C, which according to my temperature conversion chart is 109.4F. Too hot to go outside and swim in the pool you'd fry icon_lol.gif. Now do you feel warmer icon_lol.gif . Naturally that goes hand in hand with bushfires, we've just had a strong southerly change which has cooled things down but not good for the poor old fire brigade as there are a few houses in the fires path icon_sad.gif .

K2cakes - Vegan Haggis??? Are you for real icon_lol.gif I'd like to ask if it tasted like the real thing but then you wouldn't know icon_lol.gif

Ohara hope you are better now and your brother is doing better to. Unfortunately he's old enough (and as the saying goes) ugly enough to look after himself, that doesn't make it easier for you though.

Kay I reckon you're on a winner with your cookbook there wouldn't be another like it. I love the way you said "Dump over noodles" that could be your catchphrase icon_lol.gif . When you make your first million you can buy the round trip tickets, I'll drink to that, BTW it's your shout mate icon_lol.gificon_lol.gif

Tonight we had chicken and chips from the local milk bar, it was too hot to cook or swim
Last night we had a BBQ at about 8pm, we went in the pool about 6pm it was like a bath and soo nice, too hot to go in before.

Sparkle, I love reading your posts. I had to do a search to figure out what a milk bar was. See this site is educational as well icon_wink.gif I also never heard the phrase, old and ugly enough to.... lol I have heard old enough, but I really like the ugly enough part of that phrase. I will have to work it into a conversation with my girlfriends. They will all like that. Thanks I am feeling much better.

Kay....I started the baby thing much earlier than you. I'm a year younger than you and have a 23 yr old, a 20 yr old and a 12 yr old.

K2.... party.gifparty.gifHAPPY BIRTHDAY party.gifparty.gif
I hope you have a great day. Remember you are only as old as you feel.

Juju....impetigo...yes lots of fun. Hang in there. At least yours eat veggies in the summer. My youngest doesn't eat them any season. It is always a bit of a struggle to get her to eat them.

Mkolmar...I hope all is well at your house....cold I'm sure.

Janine....you must be crazy busy still. How are your parents doing? Your weather must be nice and warm also.

My brother is doing better. Will be in the hospital for a while still.
Our weather sucks. No school today. We had over 7" of snow yesterday. The temps are below 0. No school tomorrow due to a teacher in service day, and Monday is a holiday so no school then.
I am supposed to go give blood today. I will try to combine our little errands at the same time, so we aren't making multiple trips into town.

Monday I made pepper steak with rice, sweet corn and french bread

Tuesday I made chicken fajitas, refried beans, taco chips with salsa.

Last night DH wanted leftover pepper steak, so I heated that up for him and made bacon and eggs w/ toast for the kids and I.

I am making a beef roast tonight. We decided it was a good idea to use the oven and help warm the house with it as cold as it is. It just makes DH feel warmer when the over is running. icon_wink.gif

Hi All,

Sorry for not "eating" here, my computer has been down for a while due to the service provider -all fixed now

Who mentioned blanching their fries before baking??? - well i dont blanche mine i put the fresh cut and washed chips/fries into the microwave on high for a couple of minuter - about 5, and then i fry mine - ooopppsss but sooo yummy - lol this helps them cook through and come out crispy,so im sure it wil work for oven bake too??

Thanks all for the well wishes etc for my folks, they are back at work - whoo hoo!!!

Ohara - sorry about your brother in hospital, i too am a diabetic, and not a very good girl either at times, it is really hard, but when one is ill, then one needs to change your habits - i too this year want to get me back on track - I will keep him and you and your family in my prayers!! God bless!! our weather is weird, summer here used to be sunshine and bbq's now it is sunshine and electric storms in a mater of the same day sometimes 2 x a day - it is realy weird, but at least when the sun shines it is lovely and hot. Youre welcome to come visit here!

kay- the cook book sounds good, i too am interested - lol here things are tough too! Hope youre all feeling better!

Mkolmar - I pm'd you - hope the better late than never will apply for me - lol

k2 cakes - Happy birthday to a young 35!! youre still young - lol May this be a very blessed year for you! i turned 37 on the 12th - and they say you are as young as you feel, so every time i hug jarod, i feel 9 years old - he he he , my dh and i were saying tonight that 20 years ago this year, we finished our high school - like 20 years - eeeeekkkkkkk, sure doesnt feel that long ago - lol
But young at heart is a good thing - i love being 9 - lol

butterflyjuju- my son also preffers veggies in summer - lol i think in winter ones body seems to crave the comfort food -lol

Sparklepop - ooh sounds like youre having fun, i love the hot weather - even though i get hot very very quickly but dont get cold easily - i know its weird - lol i would rather have the hot hots than the colds!!! lol. i see or weather is similar - one minute boiling sun, the next major thunder/electric storms - where are the summers when we had nice days with the whole day being sun shine and happiness - lol????

Well lets see, tonight we went out for dinner with dh's gran, aunt and uncle - lol their treat - what fun!!
Had a steak and salads

Last night dh made curry and rice as i was busy preparing for the demonstration i had to give at the cake decorators guild today - lol went off well though and all were pretty happy incl me - he he he
I demonstrated the butter cream transfer - or as we call it here - lol the butter cream flip!

I dont know if i mentioned that i got my results from the exams for basic instructor in cake decorating - whoo hoo - lol i passed, i got a B - whoo hoo, now the practicals are to be 31 march 2009 till 3 april 2009 - yikers!!!
So i still have courses to do - am starting 19th feb with the piped flowers and that is so far the only course that i need, that is on offer before the exams - please all send a little prayer for me/- maybe they will postpone the practicals - lol wishful thinking - lol

Over the new years weekend, i made new curtains for my whole house - lol i bught the material 2 years ago - he he he and finaly had some time to do it all -

Hope youre all ok and that things come right quickly with the recession, come visit me, your money is worth a hell ofa lot more here than mine is there - lol
big big hugs to all

Hi everyone and thanks for the birthday wishes. icon_smile.gif

I stopped over my Nana's house for a quick b-day visit and she told me some depressing news. She recently lost tens of thousands of dollars in the stock market (one of her IRA's..) What the hell is wrong with our economy/government/country??? What is wrong with this picture? The elderly have worked their whole lives for retirement, etc. and POOF, it's gone. icon_mad.gif She wishes she'd moved her money out last year, but she didn't have a crystal ball and thought things would change.
I hated to see the look on her face. She feels so stupid, eventhough it wasn't her fault. Money sucks~

tonight's food~
veggie chix'n patties w/soy cheese and tomato-sage sauce
oven roasted broccoli
(hunger pains- because I forgot to eat rice)

Have a good one, and sorry for that vent. icon_sad.gif I know she'll be ok, but it still makes me sick.

Hi All

butterflyjuju - i agree, baked is way better than fried, lol but sometimes i love them fried - i know too naughty he he
then i guess blanching them is best so dh will eat them!, i do roasted potatoes similar, but then if you take a spray bottle with some olive oil, and just spritz them a little and i spice them, then bake??

k2cakes - so sorry to hear about your granny's loss on the stock market - if only we could turn back time!!! Give her a big hug from me!! and for you!!
The whole world is taking a knock at the moment, and it sucks!! wish there was something i could do to help! and youre welcome to vent whenever you want! Thats what friends are for.

ok, food - mmm tonight i have a lady comming over to help me out with the ironing - hooray - hate that, so we are all going to have toasted mince and cheese sandwiches, as it goes far - lol
Hugs to all

Butterfly- 4 kids is fun. You will be extremely busy though. My oldest just turned 5 when I had my youngest so she was just starting to be a little helpful. How old is your oldest.

Dinner last night was soup and lasagna,
Night before was salad, chicken and homemade bread plus potatoes.
