i agree... im assuming we're all adults and should be able to have discussions and/or disagreements without interferance... unless it gets totally out of the box.
The picture of the cake with the scrollwork on her homepage looks like it was lifted directly from Beryl Byrd's site (Just Fabulous Pastries), cake number 13. It has the same plant with pink flowers in the background.
Shame on her.
It is the exact same photograph, not a recreation of the cake.
IIRC, she DID study under Bronwen at the Texas Culinary Academy, and this is her entry from the Austin Cake Show this year. She is extremely talented. http://www.jonmasters.com/photos/family/images/204/original.aspx
Wow, that is an incredible cake!! Now I really don't understand why she would put that pic up. She could have just recreated it for sure ...

your right! i just looked it up, and its the exact same photo! hard to believe.....
If the OP took the picture, she owns the copyright. Regardless if she put her watermark on it or not. So if the OP sued, she would not be SOL, the woman who stole her picture would be SOL. All a person needs to do is look at the download picture on her computer...it is going to show the original download and the other computer is going to show a COPY of the picture...no original.
If I take a picture of my kids, I have the copyright...you steal the picture and put it on your website...saying you took it. First thing i would do is make a back up of my hard drive and take it to a lawyer. That is all the evidence I need.
I'm sorry, I'm not trying to be ugly here, but--it's pretty obvious that she's placed different cakes from different artists all over that site. All of the pics are taken with different cameras, and different styles of decorating/photography/styling are pretty obvious. Even the photo sizes/resolution are different and varied.
I'd much rather give credit where credit is due first, than to promise a similar cake and fall on my face! Sheesh.
okay, okay, okay....
this is interesting...
#1)i grew up in killeen
#2) i live about 20 miles away
All In One Bake Shop.....a cake bakers dream in austin, offers classes quite regularly... advanced classes from reputable bakers, decorators...
bronwen came in january and gave 3- 1 day classes...and the escobar's or whomever she says she is going to train with also visit frequently.
i did one of the days (it was all i could work in!)
i met a gal from killeen.....wonder if it was her....
i'm going over there tomorrow and again on tuesday, i may drive by and see what i see.....
I must be blind,.. which photo is laurafromtx? And how do we watermark our photos? sheesh, this is so disapointing. watermarks are a little distracting when looking at cakes and trying to see detail. why do peple have to be so dishonest.
And quite frankly, I have my doubts about many cakes I see there.
If I watch Bronwen on the food network can I say I studied under her, too? (a little sarcasm)
This is the link that laurafromtx says... the bakery is Just Fabulous Pastries

I'm confused....
...do you think that is or isn't her own cake from the show this year. Did she steal that one, too?
It is her cake. No question. She won Best in Division among Culinary Students.

well, I'm quite sure she made the cake for the contest but what I was saying is that if she can do a cake like the one in the contest, surely she could have easily re-created the other one (from the photo that she stole from here).
By the way, here is a link to a thread that tells how to put a watermark on photos just by using the Microsoft Paint program, so you don't have to purchase software.
For those who are interested. ![]()
I'm not sure you can get the transparent mark on there, but I think it will be sufficient to use until you can get the software you want. I'm still looking for the link that has a free download for such software.

Well...I do not understand people. Did this person think they would be un noticed after all we do go from site to site to gain ideas for competitions, cake orders, or just to have ideas packed away for a special project. To the person this happend to...I totally understand, in my opinion I would not like it if someone did this to me. Keep your chin up you do great work and your ideas are fantastic! To the person that stirred this bowl of soup....Disappointed and not good work ethics among your cakemates.
This is like any other profession, even though many of us on here are amateurs we act and work as professional as possible and keeping and being able to use this site to share and give tips is wonderful. Maybe I have learned a thing or two on this forum is I will carefully think about how and where I take my cake pictures. I hope this gets resolved soon as the pictures are still posted on that particular webpage.
Well, I have to say, I'm very happy to see you're waiting to see if she calls, instead of just jumping to conclusions. Some people are on vacation, or may not check email everyday (unlike those of us who are completely addicted to their computers
)
I applaud you for having the patience to wait. ![]()

Hey, on this subject, does anyone know what happened with the other website that had cc pics on it without permission? The one where she apparently paid a web designer who took them from the wrong file and then skipped town?

I had a pic on that website .... she contacted the web provider and the website was shut down. She and I conversed via voicemail and PM's .... initially she had no idea how to fix it, but with suggestions and ideas, she got it taken care of.
Ok, another update.
I called the number on her website and her shop is closed today. She opens tomorrow so I will be calling again and maybe in the meantime she might see the email I sent her? Her message sounds intelligent and professional, so I'm thinking that it is no 'mistake' that my picture is on her business website.
I wanted to add that I emailed Just Fabulous Pastries about this site using their photo. She wrote back to me, so she knows that her photo was stolen too. hopefully this will get resolved quickly and peacefully....
I´m so sorry this happened to you! I admire your calm attitude. You really have class! About the person who did this... well, if she can do such wonderful job as she says, then she would have no need to "take" pictures from other people and post them on her website. Those who have done this in the past and say that their website designer got it wrong and they didn´t know... Well, do they mean they never visited their own website and saw that there were pictures on there that were not theirs??? If you don´t have enough pictures of your own to have a respectable portfolio, then maybe it´s not time for you to launch into having a website. Just my 2 cents.
Ok...so I may have overstepped my bounds but I emailed her on Sunday and got a response back.....Here is what the email said ( copied and pasted).

I am surprised that you would use the same exact photo in your portfolio that was taken from someone else's file. With your credentials I would think that you would have enough cakes to put on your website without taking someone else's work.

Her response:
Thank you for your information... so glad you have the time to worry about what I'm doing, Perhaps you should dedicate your time to a hobby or a charitable cause they are much more productive and fulfilling than criticizing others. Have a wonderful day.
So I guess telling someone they are stealing in essence is wrong! Go figure....and your cake is still on the website this morning...
Yep I am saying they emailed me a response back at 10:53 am today...from [email protected] one with your photo on it...
