Thanks Keira, although exotic I'm definitely not! Just a regular mum in her thirties, too fat and too lazy to do anything about it.
But, Elena you're quite right my daughter is beautiful, she's an absolute darling icon_smile.gif

Hi Cheryl
ALWAYS up early - best time of the day! Hoping to day will see DD come to try and get some decisions made. Sure you will get a chuckle out of this - Yesterday DD and future husband had to go off for their COMPULSORY "Growing Together" Church Pre Wedding Course -9am-4pm Cost $176 AND they got a letter in the mail 2 days before telling them that they had to bring money for their lunch because it wasn't provided AND they had to bring a PEN each because they weren't provided as well!! So WHAT was the money for? There were 12 couple attending! Think we are all in the wrong profession!! Think I might send off a box of Viagra pens (sister works for Pfizer!) as a donation icon_evil.gif
Trying to source 150mm organza ribbon to use as table runner (putting it under the place settings on both sides of long tables of 15 each side) Best I can get is $7.95 for a 10m roll - Not sure if we should use silver or black (because it goes a steely silver with the white underlay)
Think we'll have to all get on MSN - these posts are getting SOoooo LONG!

Pam, you gotta love the church!! My sister is in the process of anulling her marriage through the catholic church... she had to pay $600!! I asked if they didn't approve... would she get her money back??? icon_lol.gif It is the same the world over.... especially here, home of he POPE!!!! We had to do that for our wedding too, only my italian at that stage (1999) was horrendous so I really didn't understand a word.

Oh my the Church fees................. what a joke. The majority of churches are registered as not for profit orgainizations but of course they are run as a business.
I know for a fact that the CEO of a certain church is on over $1.5m per year!!!!! How they can say they are a charity is a joke!!!!!! He went for a job with this certain church only 6 months ago for the CFO position and didnt get it because he was driving a Senator at the time and they told him that it was to 'showy' lol they have a deal whereby all their staff drive Camrys.

What other colours is your daugter having for her wedding? And is there a theme, I would be more than happy to try and source some stuff down here for you if you like?

Toni - hahaha we defected from the Catholic Church because they wanted $3,000 to marry in the local UGLY church - Gone to the Anglicans for $350 plus $100 for flowers plus $176 for HOW TO GET YOUR HUSBAND TO PUT DOWN THE TOILET SEAT counselling course!! plus $35 to have the bell tolled - it is a beautiful old sandstone church though!!
The joke is .... the local priest is the one that sits at the damn poker machines at the local club!! Ahhh! got to just shake your head eh!

and they wonder why Celebrants have become so popular - when we were travelling in Ireland in 2001 it was amazing to see so many empty churches being used as Lighting Stores and other businesses - if the Church is going under in Ireland what hope do they have in 21st century Australia!!

Good morning all!!
I guess we're all a bunch of early risers - funny how we hit CC first off!!

Pam, give these people a call in regards to the ribbon!
www.panpacific.net.au

Their web-site isn't particularly helpful, but they are great one-on-one. They sell ribbon by the roll and should be able to give you an idea of colours available. They also sell "seconds", which I usually buy, because they never seem to have anything obvious wrong with them!

morning girls,

Guess I'm not alone with a 6am wake up call from my DD!!

Re church fees for getting married... the catholic priest that married us was an angel. Because my DH was 'unemployed' (he wasnt) he instructed his secretary to charge us half fee ($400) and we got married in a gorgeous old bluestone church in South Melbourne. Our priest is very cool, on the radio and with John Saffron on sbs.

My Hi-5 cake was a huge success! Hope to post some pics today. YAY!! First non family cake was a hit, I think I may get some orders from this.

Thanks for that Elena, Already been to PanPacific - their maximum width is 100mm and I need 150mm and like about 100 metres. I can get it from H E Koch Supplies but was just enquiring as to whether Cheryl knew of another supplier that might have a better price - being the WEDDING PLANNER that she is - I love CC - this morning managed to be one up on my husband with the score for the Italian Rugby Game (thanks Toni!) and able to bounce wedding ideas at the same time. Us Aussies are a helpful bunch!! thumbs_up.gif

Pam, will check with some of my contacts tomorrow but from I really think that is the best price you will get.

By any chance to you have a business registered, as that will make a differance when sourcing for you.

Sorry have taken so long to get back, but have been working on my assignment.

Lilis, how cool was that. I love John Saffron and his vs god things. I loved the preist. He was droll and funny and thought it was great he got people to chose something for the sign outside his church. Lucky you icon_smile.gif

YEs, father Bob. He singlehandedly renewed my faith in the catholic church. It was a pleasure having him marry us... he rocks.

Morning Girls!! yes i woke up... grabbed my bowl of cereal and immediately turned computer on... now speaking of priests.... Although we are all catholics, my mother wasn't. When she died, the local priest in Middle Park said it didn't matter that she wasn't catholic, he visited her before she died, and then said of course he would do her funeral. He was amazing... he said he could see from the way she had been a mother to all of us that she was more 'catholic' than a lot of people who attend his church every Sunday!!! He was very modern, you could play whatever music you wanted and he did a lot of work inthe community with HIV / Aids patients. He then left the priesthood, so I can only assume he was just as disillusioned with the catholic church as a lot of people today.

Here you don't have to pay to get married in the church... but make an offer... your choice how much!!! $50 would probably do it!!! I can't stand the hypocrisy either.... regading Pam's story of priest at pokies!!!!!

So Pam, was your husband happy whe you ruined the game for him?? icon_lol.gif

Father Bob married us even though my DH was divorced and we were turned away by several other priests. he sounds very much like your priest Toni.

The priest here is very much traditional. When we baptised my son, I omitted to tell them the godmother I had chosen was not catholic!!! They would have forbid it otherwise.... so I just felt that I chose a wonderful person to be his godmother... and I am sure the man up above was ok with it too!!!! So cake cake cake.... just making our topic relevant to CC.

Speaking of cake, yesterday we went to a bar for a coffee and they were just finishing a huge wedding cake in the kitchen. I asked if I could have a look... so it was a typical wedding cake for here... one huge huge bottom tier and another on top..... the sides nicely decorated with fondant swags and bows....... It took three people to carry it to the van... BUT the cake is a fresh fruit tart which is thin and sits on top of these fake layers!!! Now I know why people always ask in shock if my cakes are just that....ALL CAKE!!!

Lilis,
Thats great that you could get married while a divorcee. My brother in law couldn't get married as they gave him a hard time and ws very upsetting for his bride to be. Father Bob is such a card when he's on tv and you must have been blessed to get such a great father.
icon_wink.gif what sort of wedding cake did you have at your wedding (in the spirit of all things cake LOL)

Toni,
That ws lovely what your catholic preist did for your Mum. Thats what I would like to think all are like.

I had a 3 tiered 'torta mil hojas' which is a traditional chilean cake. I was born in chile, so it's my favortie cake of all time. It was covered in white meringue icing and decorated with red grand gala roses to match my bouquet.

A torta mil hojas (translation cake of a thousand sheets) consists of sheets of pastry (kinda like a shortcrust/filo sort of thing) between which is layered with manjar (boiled condensed milk turned to caramel) and crsuhed walnuts with an alternating layer of crema pastellera (custard). Truly rich and very yummmmmmmyyyyyyyyyyyyy.

I have yet to learn how to make this. It's not too hard, but just time consuming to bake all the layers.

I'm not sure if the recipie has been posted here, but I keep meaning to get my friend to teach me. Cant seem to find the time. I might get her to email me the recipie and give it a go myself.

Like I said, not a really hard thing to make, just time consuming because you need a few sheets to get a good height, and each sheet has to be cooked individually. Most of us only have 2-3 shelves in the oven and it can take a whole day just to bake enough sheets!!!
