Thanks for the good wishes and hugs
Cheryl
Cheryl, I've been waiting too... maybe he's on a flight heading my way
Sorry to be such a cow... but it's been a very long while since I've had an Aussie male!!!! ![]()
Seriously though, I hope you are able to do your cakes without too many swear words flying!!! You poor thing!!!
Am very behind on conversation, because apart from being out a lot today... I prohibited myself from looking at computer... am doing that joyous task of going through wardrobes and being ruthless... started with mine.... not really finished... just loads of clothes all over my bed... which will end up on the floor before I crawl into bed later. Plus went mad on cleaning house...
I would love to see you all in Carlton.... but I may have a problem getting there on time
Just have drink for me too...
PAM, I'm sorry to laugh at your expense, but it was funny imagining you chasing goslings around as I'm sure they are fast... How cute they must be though!! I was telling my children in the car on the way to school.... they both want to know when they can come over to see them!!!!!!!
I ordered 3 types of silicone heart pans... one type arrived and so now have hearts baking... I have to do 70 for a wedding in 2 weeks..... Am not feeling 'IT'.... so will keep you all posted on this saga..... and which eventually goes well for this fussy client
xxxx
OMG, Pam, how cute!!!!!!!!!!!
Cheryl, thanks a lot for the details!
Sorry to hear about your fingers! Always happens at the best possible time....
but I know who will be helping you with the cake
. I saw the pictures in your gallery. Your sun is VERY GOOD!
Goodness me, Toni, 70 hearts ![]()

Hi all you lovely ladies!
Well what a weekend! How lucky was I that my birthday was on a long weekend. I had one of those ongoing birthdays it was great. Got taken out to lunch on Friday, went shopping Saturday afternoon, had a pedicure, lunch and dinner, then lunch with the family on Monday! Woo hoo, my nieces and nephews also made me their own cake which was too adorable. They covered it in lilac icing and then put everyone's initials on it. My niece made me this beautiful card in which she wrote you are loved by and then wrote everyone's names, needless to say a few tears were shed it was the absolute sweetest thing. I say this because when i refer to nieces and nephews and sisters etc, these are all family of choice as opposed to blood. My brother and I stopped talking after my mum died (long story) and he made it difficult to see my niece, so one of my dearest girlfriends took me into her family and we created our own "framily" the family you choose to be in!
Anyway Cheryl you poor thing sending you speedy get well wishes!
Toni, so glad one of the moulds arrived, if you are baking in them, I take they are an acceptable size! I had a difficult client recently it's a pain, I hope that there is no more difficulty from them!
Hope everyone enjoyed their long weekend, back to the grindstone, have a wedding to do the cake for this weekend, freaking out a little but I'll be fine I'm sure here's hoping the vision in my head comes out and it is the same vision for the bride! ![]()
Very good YanaK, I will put him on standby duty. ![]()
The hand hurts more than childbirth
however the codiene is helping to keep the pain at bay. ![]()
Manage to submit assignment last night even though I was typing with one hand. ![]()
nicolevoorhout Happy Birthday to you

Hey Lili,
Kokoblack is on Lygon Street, near the park in the middle of lygon street (can't remember the side street name). I was going to say near the gelati place, but there's been so many new gelati places opened on Lygon St! Sorry if that confused you more!
So far it seems Fridays are the best days?
Haha!
I used to frequent Lygon St a fair bit when we were living in Fitzroy North, but these days I am lucky if I can find time to get out for a decent cup of coffee!
Ok so far we have:
Fran
Lili
Cheryl
BarbaraK
Jade
Who else? Ginger - surely you will come?!!!
Pam, Those little goslings are so cute, any time you need them rounded up, just give me a call.... But you'd better count them before I leave.
Cheryl, bad luck about your digits - I hope you have some help!
I broke my "rude finger" last year and it is very inconvenient.
Toni - I look forward to seeing your hearts too.
Those goslings are too adorable... Annabella & Joseph now want to know why we don't have any??!!!!!
Nicole.... the heart pans that arrived slant from top to bottom of mould.... does that make sense??? Anyway today I will try to cover one to see if it can be done..... in the hope that the postman hurries up with the others I ordered to see if they are any better!!
Very proud of myself... just got back from 2 hour walk with dog.... listening to my ipod music plus Matt & Jo breakfast show.... now back to cleaning house ![]()
CHERYL..... you are amazing.... kids, cakes and assignments... with one hand!!!!!!!!! ![]()

Toni I know exactly what you mean, if they are really fiddly you might be better off covering them by cutting a strip and wrapping it round the side and then use one of the tins to cut the top piece out. You could use different designs to hide the seam although a little gentle rub should help you can even play with it looking like a heart box and embrace the seam.
Don't know if that helps?!![]()

I can't believe it I have finally got to the end after reading for 2 nights and guess what I have forgotten most of the answers but totally gobsmacked at 15 hours to cook a fruit cake. Every year I usually make a 12 -16 inch fruit cake and it doesn't take that long to cook. What tempature would you be cooking it at? Usually pre heat the oven at 160 degrees and cook about 5 hours. Gladbake in tin, newspaper on outside tied with string, and brown paper on top. Leave in tin to cool enough to wrap up for a couple of days, oops forgot pour brandy over when it comes out of oven. Then still leave paper on wrap in butcher paper till ready to cover.
I would like to ask a question of Fran, please excuse my ignorance but what is a madhatter cake? I would mind knowing how you cover your cakes either they are perfectly covered.
Also a recipe for those cakes you were talking about would be great.
I made a 14 " fruitcake a couple of months ago, & from memory ( ha,what memory ??!! ) it took 7 or 8 hrs to cook on about 150 c..
I wanna go to Melbourne for coffee ![]()

TELL ME ABOUT IT!!!
All this talk about fruit cake though brings back beautiful memories of Christmas with my mum making the Christmas cake & Christmas pudding months before... The pudding hanging in the pantry wrapped up in calico, and the way she would accasionally put brandy on the fruit cake. She would then get togethre with two of my aunties, and they would make hundreds of mince pies and shortbread!!!!! Sadly I don't think my children will have that same experience!!.... but they do get great birthday cakes!!!!!!!
okay... i have had 5 days away and you guys amassed 11 pages of replies! thats amazing! i havent actually read any yet, i'll do it on my lunch break! Just popping in to say g'day and i cant wait to read about whats been happening!
P.S i'm still sick!
We have woken up to the most bizarre fog this morning in Brisbane!
I can't see houses in the street behind us! Wow!
Hey Lovely, you up yet to have a looksie at the fog?
My toddlers think it's cool ![]()
Hi guys... man there were so many pages to read through! anyways... i have a HUUUUUGE favour... I have a wedding for a friend to do on the 4th of November (cupcake tower thingo)... but then last night a friend of a friend's mum rang and wants me to do a 3 tier mudcake/fondant for the day before... ((note to self... must learn to say no!!
Anyways.. the favour is a half decent recipe for the mudcake -- something that'll keep for a day or so nicely under fondant... I figure if I can get one of these I'll be able to help this girl out... I have a couple of recipes from the US, but nothing that I love... just wondering if anyone else has one they wouldn't mind sharing....
Thanks heaps...

I'm new to this baking from scratch business
but I love Exclusively Food's Choc Mud Cake. I use all dark chocolate (Lindt couverture I get from cake deco) and everyone loves it.
HTH!

Hey Curvy.
I did get up. It was cool. Meant it was a hot day so I took the kids to the day session of ice skating (lovely and cool) and then they came home for a swim.
How old are your toddlers? I love fog but we don't get too much.(well as muchas I used to remeber seeing)

OOOH!! Jade, that cake recipe looks scrummy!! might just make that as a test run... see how it goes... but looks good! Thanks for the link.
No probs!
I did find that the mud cake was nicer after having been frozen. It seemed a lot more moist compared to the portion I placed in the fridge in an air-tight container.
I use a different ganache to the one listed on that recipe though.
Let me know how you go, because this is my favorite mud cake recipe by far!
Hm, I may even give that recipe a go. Could never understand what people find in mud cakes
Even asked once to try at a cake decoration demo session.
The instractor said it was yummy, to me it taisted like a cake from a pack
.
Also I've been wondering what one would charge for a pillow cake with a tiara? Please PM me if you do not want to talk about it in open. I have a query for 18th birthday cake. Do not know any details yet, but let's say it is a 9" sponge type cake. Many thanks in advance, girls!
Hi Feefs
I have a recipe here that is really moist and dense which I use alot and have had no complaints, It uses milk chocolate instead of dark and is quite easy to make.
