mkolmar OMG your pour babies. Here's aunty KAYS ((((BIG HUGS AND KISSES)))) And here's a (((BIG HUG))) for you. I am glad you insisted on getting them looked at again. Man I got goose bumps just thinking about it. That is why I don't like going to other on call doctors. I am glad my DD problem wasn't anything that bad. I will be thinking of them everytime I look at my DD. And know how lucky I am and how lucky your girls were. You get some much needed rest with your girls.

So tonight was sloppy joes, fries and strawberry shortcake.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sorry, I thought I had posted this under "What's For Supper" somehow it ended up in the Lounge.

I love this chicken dish, easy to fix and looks so pretty on the plate.

Pollo Al Jerez

6 Boneless, skinless Chicken Breast Halves
Mix 1/2 teaspoon Paprika with 1 1/2 all purpose flour in a paper lunch bag. Drop the chicken pieces in one at a time and shake to coat well. Set aside on a plate.
Heat 2/3 cup cooking oil in a large skillet. Add the chicken pieces, salt and pepper to taste, brown chicken pieces on all sides. Remove the chicken and drain all but about 1 Tablespoon of the oil from the pan. Add 10 cloves of finely minced garlic to the pan, saute quickly until limp but not browned. Add the chicken pieces back to the skillet. Pour one large can (32 oz.) Chicken broth over the chicken. Add 1/2 cup good sherry or white wine if you like. Cook uncovered over medium heat for 15-20 minutes or till chicken tests done, till clear juices flow when pierced with a fork. I turn them from time to time while cooking. When chicken tests done turn heat up to medium high, continue cooking until broth has reduced and forms a medium thick sauce, again, I turn the chicken pieces while the sauce is reducing, it takes about 12-15 minutes to reduce and thicken. Serve breasts over a mound of steamed white rice, spoon sauce over each breast serving and rice, sprinkle with fresh minced parsley. Arrange fresh fruit around the outside edges of the plates in an attractive manner and serve. I use small wedges of fresh watermelon and cantalope without the rind, sweet naval orange slices overlapped, strawberries cut into fans, single fresh raspberries or grapes, 2 slices of fresh tomatoe slices overlapped for each plate. The last thing I add is Fresh banana slices, peel and cut the banana lengthwise and then in half crosswise, arrange one quarter slice on each side of the plate. I have my fruit all cleaned and sliced before I start the chiciken cooking, just refrigerate covered, leave the banana to peel and slice after the food has cooked so it doesn't turn brown. Delicious!

Welcome to the table shirleyw! That recipe sounds delicious! I'm going to make it sometime within the next few days.

my girls are getting better, still not eating more that 2-3 bites of food. But they are drinking fluids and actually starting to go pee again. The swelling is almost gone and only my 7 year old has some bumpy rash still on her. They just want to lay around and rest. Can't say I blaim them, there bodies have been through so much the past few days. I just can't believe that I almost lost them both!

Kay--I'll make sure to give them each a big hug from you.
Thumperbunny--you are one busy momma.

I can't go out to the store so tonight will be whatever I can find that the kids will hopefully eat.

Hi everyone! I have been lurking at the table for awhile, and I decided I'd finally contribute. You all are so much fun! I really enjoy this thread! thumbs_up.gif

Anyway, tonight we had chicken tacos (I had crunchy tacos, DH had soft tacos). They were really yummy, with lettuce, tomato (fresh from our garden), chunks of avocado, shredded cheddar, and sour cream. YUM. I'm the baker, and DH is the cook. I know how to cook, but I just don't like doing it very much. So, I'm thankful that he is good at it and enjoys it. icon_smile.gif

P.S. - ShirleyW ... that recipe sounds so yummy! I'm going to try it soon! icon_smile.gif

Thunperbunny my DS quit wrestling. He had his arm almost dislocated. So he deciced it was to much pain for him. And actually it was a good thing cause we found out a year later that he has tilted knee caps and they dislocate easily. He will have to have surgery in the future. He did do physical therapy to try to strengthen them. So he can't go out for any sports. And why was the 14 yr old girl pushing your little one around. Where was the coach when this was happening??

I have NO CLUE what is for supper tonight..

So glad to see some more new faces at the table!

Mklomar I am SOO glad to hear your girls are ok, I can't imagine going through that. Give them hugs from me too and you know what being sick means? You get ice cream as you start to feel better icon_lol.gif

My goodness everyone has been so busy too! Well we made an offer on one house and it wasn't accepted, we're waiting for a counter offer and deciding how much more we want to go up.

At the fair I only made it to three concerts, Lonestar, Gretchen Wilson, and Big&Rich. SO many things ended up happening that week it just wasn't possible to go every night.

Oh and you girls will be so amazed.... after about 3-4 months of not cooking at home more than 3 days a month, yep you better believe it, I have cooked at home the last 5 days!! amazing isn't it?

so we had tacos, spagetti, chicken/rice casserole, homemade meatballs w/mashed potatoes and corn, and homemade pizza.

Tonight is BF's grandparents 54th anniversary dinner, they chose Chinese, so I think i will have mongolian beef or cashew chicken, I haven't decided yet.

Oh and I can not wait to try that recipe by Shirley, it looks so good my stomach was growling as I was reading it (that is when you know it is a good recipe)

see everyone soon.

Hi Leily, I'll give the girls a big hug for ya! Trying to find a house sometimes is a pain--the back and forth negotiating always agrivated me

Patricia, go and teach that kid some manners! My goodness that kids parents need a talking too also.

Welcome Cakesbyjess! no need to lurk---we don't bite! except the ocassional meal and dessert.

To everyone else--we miss ya! come back and visit once your lives slow down a bit.

Tonight was grilled cheese and tomato soup for kids with a small salad (which only 1 kid ate) DH and I had salads with feta cheese and sunflower seeds with turkey and cheese grilled sandwiches.
We are also having lemon/strawberry italian ice.

Girls are doing better. Raya was vomiting again yesterday and a very small rash the size of a 50 cent piece showed up on her cheek, but it was gone in about 12 hours. They both are eating and drinking more today too.
My 5 year old son decided to accidently swallow a small steal ball that goes to a game that was painted. Since it's a made in China toy, the docs are having me take him in for blood work to check his tox. levels for possible lead. I swear my kids are trying to kill me from stress!--don't ask me why he put it in his mouth in the first place or why he went to where the game was locked to get it? icon_confused.gif

mkolmar ... sorry to hear about your son ... I hope they don't find any lead in his system. How scary! Glad to hear your girls are doing better, too.

Tonight, we went to a new Thai restaurant. DH works with a very nice Thai woman, and we are friends with her and her DH. Her DH's cousin is the owner of this new restaurant, and they had a special opening party tonight for friends and family. The food was fantastic!! We got to try lots of different things. Yum! icon_smile.gif

I'm leaving tomorrow to go out of town for the weekend (to my mom and dad's cottage up at Lake Erie), so I won't be here for a couple days. Have a great weekend, everyone! icon_smile.gif

Thumperbunny I hope you can get to the bottom the problem and soon. He is still young and I would hate for him to quit to early because of a BULLY.

cakesbyjess I hope you have a great weekend. And I love trying new foods I envy you LOL

Ok tonight was kind of a leftover night. DH didn't eat when he got home in the morning so he had that. DD of course wanted her FAV taco salad leftovers. And DS made himself some alfredo sauce (in a jar) over spaghetti noodles. I don't know what I will make for DH in the morning. I am thinking about a salad for myself not sure. I am baking cake tonight or early morning depends on how you look at it LOL.

Well, last night in casual conversation with one of the ladies in charge, I mentioned what happened. She said something to I guess the mom and a man, the girls are saying Hunter punched them, I was watching and never saw that. Then "mom" started screaming at me so I went back at her. She asked me why I went running the the main lady, I told her I didnt and was general conversation. Then she said "maybe you should control your kid." So I popped back and said "he's six, and maybe you should control yours, she's 14 whats here excuse?". She just looked at me a min and then turned around. I wasn't about to back down. Then a different lady said Hunter grabbed her wrist one time and I said why didn't she say anything? She said nothing else.

Ok, here's my take on the deal...If hunter is doing wrong, find me and I will correct it, if I am not around TELL ME about it. Hello? Who are the grown ups here?

On to funner matters...Fast food, 1.00 menu or happy meals.

Tonight I took my BF and his dad out to Texas Roadhouse (oh and a friend of my BF tagged along too, but I made him pay for himself icon_smile.gif )

I had a new york strip with mashed potatoes and a salad w/ranch. And a few rolls and peanuts for the apppetizer.

BF went out with his friend after dinner so I brought my BF's dad back home with me and now I have the house all nice and quiet to myself. Ok, so I dont' really like being home alone, when he isn't here I can't sleep and I am sooo tired! My day at work stressed me out!

Oh but good news, my vacation was approved so August 28th through September 4th! so yeah me! After this project at work gets done in a couple of weeks I am going to need it!

Okay--thought I'd ask my table buddies a question---

I more than likely will be taking a class at the French Pastry School in Chicago. It's November 13 - 15 (tuesday, wednesday and thursday) from 4pm - 9pm each of these days. The class is introduction to pastry-cakes and tarts. You can look up what you will be making on their website. www.frenchpastryschool.com The class is $495 (I know that's a lot of money)

I'm wondering if any of you would be interested in going? Okay stop laughing histarically at me. Just putting the idea out there. Thought it would be a good learning experience and a way to meet some of ya'll possibly.

I'm home party.gif . I am done traveling for a couple of months. I don't have anything planned until the first part of November. I am so tired. I did have a great visit with my sister. I got to tour her house (it was extremely damaged during a storm while they were getting a new roof, it is unlivable). The demolition work is done, however, reconstruction has not even begun. They will be in the hotel (all 7 of them) for months still. My sister is VERY organized, which helps make it possible. We went to the Illinois state fair on Friday. We had a good time, but it was HOT!!!
While we were gone my 10 yr old daughter got sick. First it seemed she has just a cold. Now I don't know. She's stuffy, her throat hurts, fever....
I will take her to the doctor on Monday. She also had been complaining about her right breast being hard and hurting, so I felt it. She has a lump. icon_eek.gif I am trying not to freak. I am hoping and trying to believe that it's related to the virus she has. I only want her doctor to see her. I trust him.

I am gone for a week and ShirleyW and cakesbyjess both come to the table. A big WELCOME. Hope you stay a while.

mkolmar...wow, what a scare with your girls. I am so glad they are getting better. And your son icon_eek.gif ....aren't kids great. Hang in there girl.

kay.....girl you stay so busy. When does school start out by you. Ours starts on 8/22. I am looking forward to it and sad at the same time.

leily... how exciting buying a house. Keep us posted. Are you going any where on vacation or doing stuff around the house?

cakesbyjess...hope you had great weekend.

Thumperbunny...good for you for standing up for your son. What would we do without the dollar menu and happy meals. We were lucky enough to find booth at the state fair that had a dollar menu. Corn dogs were $1 Have to love that.

We ate on the run all week. We had dinner at my Dad's on Monday, pizza on Tuesday, ate left overs on Wednesday, Thursday my Dad took us to Texas Roadhouse, and Friday we ate at the fair. I got home yesterday afternoon, took DH out for dinner as it was his birthday. We ate at Outback Steak House. Will probably grill out tonight. Have a good day ladies.

I took my daughter to the doctor today. Good news, he said that the lump is a breast nodule. In this case a breast bud. He said that they are tender part of the time, it will not stay tender, or hard. He also ran a strep test. The rapid was neg. He is running a 24 hour one as well as he says that there is a 10% error with the rapid test.

Last night we had grilled sirloin, potato skins, bread, cottage cheese. Homemade angel food cake for desert

Tonight I made DH salmon patties, french fries, salad and strawberries. Creme brulee for desert.

Ohara, welcome back to the table, glad to see you had a good vacation. Where in Illinois were you? I am in Iowa but right on the eastern side (mississippi river is about 1/2 mile from my house) you might not have been that far!
Also, glad to hear your daughter is ok!

Ok, on the house deal, the offer we made and was declined we decided not to make another one b/c they countered with an offer that was still way over what we thought the house was worth. We told them if they changed their minds to call us b/c we were interested if they went lower. We found out today they accepted an offer on a house... but get this... it was way less than what we offered? Make sense? Oh well, it wasn't meant to be, it was a nice house but we will find another.

As for vacation? I am getting really excited. We are going out to yellowstone! I am still trying to find some places to stay (nothing like waiting until the last minute) however it is working out in our favor and I am getting AWESOME deals on some cabins that are available and they want to fill them! I found a place that can have 12 ppl, 4 bedrooms, full kitchen, two master baths and one other full bath normal price is 280 dollars, I get it for $180!!!

Anyway, dinner... Went out to local restaurant that we were boycotting b/c of bad food and service (this is the place that has great ambiance but would take 3 hours just for two people to eat) well we had awesome food and great service! maybe someone finally took notice and is changing things. I had Potatoe soup, catfish w/lemon, green bean casserole, and a baked potatoe. (maybe I should have held back since I had just gone to the Y icon_redface.gif )

Ok, sorry to ramble on tonight ladies but I have a lot to say! So I want to loose weight and stick with it, I tend to always say I will and attempt but I don't do it. Would you ladies help be my support and make me answer to you? I will keep you updated on everything I do etc... but I need some help! So any suggestions for what to do and what to eat? I have done some reasearch and I want to do a lifestyle change, not just a diet. I know I can eat better, but I also know I dont' have to cut everything out that is bad for me, just in moderation (which by the way I have gotten a lot better at and have noticed a difference, but obviously it isn't enough) So any advice?

Sorry I am missing for a few days. It was a crazy scary weekend. Kind of a long story. But anyways my DS'S BFF (since diapers) and his sis also BFF and another friend came down for the weekend (kinda last minute) His friend Payton got his drivers liscense on Friday so they came down. 3 teen boys and one teen girl what craziness. So made homemade brownies and krispie treats for snack. But they mostly at out at taco bell LOL Not us though. I made fish and fries for DH and DD one night. Then my chicken ramen( I don't remeber what night that was it may have been before they came down) But Sunday night when they left DS made a concotion LOL He made shrimp alfrado mixed with linguine noodles. He wanted salad shrimp and he thawed them, boiled the noodles and after he drain the noodles he added a jar of alfrado sauce and the shrimp and mixed. It was ok but I wasn't happy with the shrimp. But tonight I ordered Pizza Hut Pan PIZZA for my B-Day cause I didn't want to cook icon_lol.gifthumbs_up.gif

DH suprised me and got me roses from Wal-Mart when he got off of work this morning. He brought them home and couldn't find a vase. So he found some glasses we got from RED LOBSTER a few years ago and put them in one of them. I didn't even realize what the vase was till he told me. We had a great laugh over that one. I wasn't expecting anything so it was so sweet of him since he doesn't do it often. And they are so PRETTY.

So trying to catch up with everyone.

Ohara glad you are back and had a great time. And I am so happy that your DD is ok for the most part. My sis had that happen at about that age and they did a biopsy then but that was 30 some years ago. I hope she feels better soon.

leily That stinks about the house. But an even better one will come along you will see. And as far a diet or eating well and a style change I can't help with much. Only thing I know is when I stopped eating out alot I lost weight. But I ain't no skinny thing but I TRY to eat right but that doesn't always happen. Alot of the fast and easy box mixes are bad for you also. We don't eat enough veggies and I know that would help. But I will help you as much as I can.

Thumperbunny KIDS are KIDS they love junk. Mine love when I cook BUT if the option were there for fast food they would be all over it. Like tonight with the PIZZA. Your meal sounded YUMMY to me.

Sorry I didn't read back very far. I hope I didn't miss anyone or anything important.

Dang I can't believe I forgot the sweetest thing about my B-Day. My niece spent the night last night. So when DD and her got up this morning DD was freaking that it was my B-Day. And she new I had made extra loaf WASC cakes for us for strawberry shortcakes. So the put 2 of them on a paper plate side by side. And she went to the fridge and found alittle bit of frosting that was left over from a cake I did recently. And frosted the cakes. And topped them with Reeses Pieces(sp) and candles. They needed 44 so they found a #7 candle and added the rest of them by themselves to total 44. Can you imagine a little cake about the size of a 4 x 4 square with that many candles LOL

Here is the best part we were talking about the cake later and DD said "MOM I remember the paper smoothing technique, But I forgot to let it sit for a few minutes so when I pulled the paper off the frosting stuck" "And I didn't have much time before you got up so I hurried and put on more frosting I am sorry it isn't smooth" Man is she a cake decorator or what LOL I took pictures and will try to get it posted. I might try to put it as my avitair.
