Ohara, we missed you! Re-connecting with family will be wonderful for you, you have such a big heart and I know that you miss them.
Kay, you know your cake will be a HUGE success, wish I could fly down and squeeze into my old cheerleading uniform to cheer you on--Okay I couldn't even zip it I'm sure and it would be more humorous than motivating probably, but I just know it will be great.
I have not had tests ran yet, my cousin is very ill right now and in the hospital. She had #4, a baby girl, last week and is in the hospital fighting now. A blood clot was found in her main artary in her thigh and during surgery it moved while they were putting the screen in. Thought they stopped it but it looks as if now it moved to her lung. Waiting to hear the news yet. They are hoping her breathing is not caused by the clot but an allergic reaction to the drugs. She is 25. Her dad and husband refuse to leave her side. Her step-mom (my aunt) has the newborn and her SIL has the other 3 kids (ages 5,3, and 1) Her mom and sister are poop heads and in California, left to go back home the day Jessica went in the hospital and don't want to come back.
Tonights dinner was southwestern omeletes.
Tonight was BBQ country ribs. It was a crazy night. DD had her party for the reading contest at the library tonight. It was suppose to be at the park but RAIN changed there mind LOL So I pre boiled them and put in a baking pan poured BBQ sauce over them. Put foil on top. Put in oven to cook and went to the pary and they were done when we got back. And then I fried up country hashbrowns, and opened a can of corn and nuked it.
Hey twin I am thinking of your cousin. That has to be very hard to deal with. I am prsying she makes it out fine and soon. That situation has to be very tough for the family. And #$@* her MOM and SISTER for abanding (sp) her. If something bad happens and they aren't there GAAHHH I am just flabergassed. If my DD were in the hospital I would be right there.
And I know I will get through the wedding cake. BBBUUUTTTT I am still scared. I hvae been working on my idea tonight. It is going OK. But what really is scaring me is that I have to set up while they are eating. It is a garden wedding at her G-Ma's house. Simple yes. But I will feel like I am on display while they eat. They are limited on chairs and tables Oh and space LOL. G-ma don't want people tracking through the house to get cake so it is all outside. So while they eat I need to set up the cake. There will be around 30 people stairing at me. GGGAAAHHHH And it is suppose to get hot again on the weekend. At least I can have it mostly done. It is based on the final cake for course 3. So if I have it all ready in boxes all I have to do is set the bottom out and put the top on and the then there cake topper. And it is kind of heavy. So that is another point that is scaring me.
Sorry so long. I better get to bed so I can practice again tomorrow and get the other freebie cake done for Sat.
Ohara I forgot to add. I love Wendy's baked potaoes.. YUMMM I am glad you will have some girl time...
Ya my vacation was as busy as my life. Well almost LOL It was alittle more relaxed than it sounded. We just tried to fit in as much fun as we could. I really wanted to read more was my only regret. LOL
I'm having danish meatballs with potatos (mom invitet me and the kids over, they loooove her cooking, hate mine)
Went to the zoo today with all 4 of my kids plus my friend Jodi and her 2 little tikes. It was packed! They have a butterfly house for only 3 months and 3 baby polar bear cubs there on exhibit so everyone in the area wants to see them. Was there from 10:45 and didn't get home till 4pm. Kids just ate dinner--toasted turkey and cheese mini-subs with pretzels and raisins. Now we are getting ready to go swimming at the YMCA. Just thought I'd check in here and say HI real quick first. My brother has been missing for 3 days. Drove past his house and his ceiling fan was on so I guess he's okay
He's called off work for the past 3 days and his girlfriend lives with him so I'm hoping he's alright. Hope he's not back on drugs again ![]()
My cousin is still very ill and everything is up in the air. My uncle (her dad) refuses to leave her side and neither will her husband. Her mom and sister are witches sho could really care less. So glad they are not in the area. My uncle would be in jail for killing his ex for treating there daughter this way.
Tonight was steak on the grill, hash brown casserole, green beans, fresh pineapple and garlic bread. With apple pie and ice cream. We had friends over for dinner.
Busy day. Met with a couple about their wedding. Young and in a hurry, the wedding will be Sept 1. Her color is orange. She wants square cakes stacked no pillars. I don't have a lot of time to come up with a game plan. I am also doing the wedding planning and reception. I will be out of town 2 times before then. I will also be doing a wedding cake the weekend before.
mkolmar.... I love going to the zoo. We have a great one. I haven't taken my DD yet this summer. I can't believe you still had energy to go to the Y. I'm sorry about your cousin. What a horrible situation. I will pray that she gets better real soon. I hope all is well with your brother.
Thought I'd just post that my cousin is okay, she had another emergancy surgery this morning. They thought the blood clot moved to her heart. I don't know much more than that but she is doing better and is out of ICU now. She still isn't out of the woods yet and is under much attention from staff, but she seems to be doing a little better now. This was her 3rd surgery in less than 48 hours.
Ohara--Wow girl! That's a lot on your plate. If I lived close buy I would totally help you with the catering--that has to be a LOT of stress-but I'm sure you can pull it off with flying colors--you always do!
mkolmar....I am so glad to hear that she is improving. What an ordeal for her and the whole family.
Tonight was scrambled eggs with ham and cheese mixed in for me. Family had a choice of eggs and toast or grilled ham and cheese sandwiches.
my cousin is doing a little better. Come to find out 2 different areas of the hospital seem to be in a war with each other. One Doc/resident would say something and the other side would say the opposite. It was a big back and forth over her and controle for her care. Anyways one resident said she didn't need the original surgery and the doc's from Vascular would put one of those green screens in everyone walking around if they could. Another resident came in and demanded she be seen by Vascular and wrote everything in her chart by-passing the chain of command and procedures. He grabbed a Doc from Vascular to look at her quickly. While the Vascular Doc is checking Jessica out that resident is getting chewed up one side and down the other and even wrote up for not following procedures. BUT that resident is who saved her life--another 15 minutes and she would have been dead. There is a lot more to this but it's an absolute miracle she is alive.
Went out for pizza-yippee! I didn't cook! Then got icecream afterward.
Welcome Messybaker!
Tonight was dinner at Quimby's a local restaurant and pub. I had about $25 left on a gift certificate and I didn't feel like cooking (DH is working late) so my mom came with me and the kids for a free meal ![]()
They have good food and pretty good sized portions. Average prices --but I love it there. First time my kids have ever ate there though--wasn't sure if they would like it or not. Foolish me! They have chicken chunks with fries and burgers how could they not? 3 kids had the chicken chunks plus fries--1 had the burger with fries. My mom and I split a ceaser salad and and order of spinach artichoke dip with their homemade tortilla chips. YUM!!!! My kids asked if they could go back tomarrow---ummmm, no.
Hope you all are doing well---has anyone heard from Christi lately--I hope she's feeling well.
welcome messybaker and rikke-denmark!
Mkolmar - That is so tough for your cousin, I can't imagine what your family is going through, glad there was a doctor there that was looking out for her though and took the chance of doing what is right for the patient instead of dealing with the politics. I can't believe a mom could leave her child like that (I know it takes all kinds though) When are you planning on going to take those test?
Ohara - That sounds like a fun catering order you have there, I know it is quickly approaching, but sometimes that is a good thing! You don't get to think about it to much you just have to do it
(oh glad I could be some entertainment for you with my vent
)
Kay - glad to hear you had a great vacation, can't wait until I get to go on one next month.
Well I know I dissapeared from the table last week. Our house guest was suppose to fly out last tuesday. We dropped him off and then once we got back home (about an hr away) we got a call that his flight was over booked and he was staying until saturday
<--Exactly how I felt, pretty sure I looked like this when I found out, good thing no one was in the room with me when I found out! So it was a bit stressful through the week also.
But Saturday I got to do some more baking for my BF's nephews B-day party today. I got to try something new!! I did a chocolate chip cookie cake (5 layers of cookies w/ buttercream icing) and then I also did cake cookies (b-day boys request) I just use my normal cake batter and use the PC medium cookie scoop, drop on the pan and bake. So it was kinda cool to have the cookie cake and then cake cookies, everyone got a kick out of it. As soon as I get unlazy (is that a word?) I will go find the camera and load them for you to check out.... which reminds me I still need ot load the picture of the stacked books.
Anyways... the point of the thread I am getting there I promise!
Friday - Buffalo Wild Wings restaurant, first time we ate there, AWESOME food!! I had a grilled chicken/bacon sandwhich w/cheese and their sauce, sooo juicy!
Saturday - Mongolian beef at the chinese restaurant, then we went to see Ratatouille (sp?)
Sunday - BF had softball games early evening so we went out after w/ a few friends. Went to Hungry Hobo (local sandwhich chain) Had a grilled steak sandwhich w/mayonaise and some taco chips (I LOVE this sandwhich!)
These are the only things worth repeating (actually the only things I can remember, but shh dont' tell my memory is going
)
Ok I am glad my weekend wasn't the only crazy one. LOL
Friday SIL was looking for a computer desk and on my way to WAL-MART I see a garage sale that has a real nice one. It fits in the corner and was bought at an office supply store. (really Nice) So I call her and she says she will be able to come to town in about 2 hours when do they close. So she asks my to go back there and see if it is still there and tell them I have someone interested in it. So she gets to town and of course wants me to go with her to bargain with them. I got them down to 30 from 40 for a $100 desk YYAAHHH Anyway we have to take here set out of her van to get it to fit. Well at least the top part. ( the guys at the sale didn't know how to make them both fit. GGAAHH and they wouldn't listen to us. So she has 3 girls one is a 2 yr old. So we were going to take the 2 yr old with us to her houe which is about 15 miles away and leave her other 2 with my DD and my DH. But the older girls decided they wanted to stay the night. So supper that night was left over spaghetti. And grilled cheese for DH.
Ok Sat. I work on the cake I need to deliver in the afternoon. I call my SIL and tell her I will bring the girls to her around 2. Then I get a phone call from DS (who was staying with a friend out of town and suppose to come home on Sunday) Do you want to come get us today?? I am like WHAT?? I had asked him 3 times before if he would come back Sat. and he always said NO. So I said ya I guess can you leave now so I can drop the girls of on the way to get you. No we won't leave for at least another hour. So I call SIL back to change the time. And call the woman that I need to drop the cake to reschedule the drop off and get her machine. I tell her I have to go out of town and I can drop it when I get back. And out the door I go on my 4 hour round trip drive. So I when I got back I ran to the store and picked up Hamburger and buns. And I made steak fries and corn.
Today was DH birthday and I wanted to make a big supper and bake him a cherry pie for dessert. (he isn't to fond of cake) Well the dryer broke down so I had to go to the laundry mat and do 5 loads of laundry and put me behind on supper. But I did get supper done HIS FAVS Fried Chicken, Homemade smashed Potatoes, Gravy, corn and green beans. I didn't get the pie done. I am working on it now and it is making me mad. I am screwing up cause I am not a good pie baker. I am working on a second batch of pie crust. I don't know what went wrong with the first one. but it is way sticky and I can't get it right. But I used the newer crisco and wondered if that was my problem.
Sorry for the long rant. But I had a really bad day. And I didn't get DH's pie done and that upset me. I hope I can get it done before he gets home from work in the morning.
* waving to table * Hey guys hope all is well!!!! ! Sure have missed you all!!
Dinner tonight was boneless rib sandwiches, sauteed squash and potatoes
((((((((((((hugs to the table ))))))))))))))
Yeah Christi came back to visit--quick handcuff her to her chair.
You all have been some busy people! I'm just checking in while in the middle of making cookies for an order. --blasted cookies are so big I don't have bags that will fit them--gonna have to by some cello paper I think to shrink wrap them. hmmmm, lets see ---my cousin is doing okay, may be getting out within the next few days from the hospital.
my kids and I spent part of the day outside blowing bubbles, playing and writing with chalk. Jon is still at work and my fridge is EMPTY! I'm talking no butter, eggs, bread, milk and other items....I have to go to the store sooooo bad! I forgot to tell you all: MY stubborn red headed daughter, Kyra, who will be 4 next month is now potty trained and has been for almost 2 weeks! (My older 2 were at a little after turning 3) I just decided not to push her and 2 weeks ago she said "mommy I have to go potty, I have to go pee-pee" and that was it--she was done. It just had to be on her own terms.
oh yeah, tonights dinner was frozen waffles, fruit and yogurt-fruit smoothies. That's all I could make considering I'm out of food. ![]()
Tonight was breaded pork chops, sauted zucchini-yellow squash and onion, buttered french bread and smashed potatoes.
Quick wave to the table as I fly threw.
I am doing my first wedding cake this weekend.
Hugs to monica get well soon
And Kristi I say your wave I hope you are doing ok.
Twin did you find out your results?? I am going to the doc next week I PROMISE.
Leily I guess we will pass each other flying through LOL
Tonight fast and easy hotdogs and the blue box blues LOL after the kids went swimming.
I took a roast out of the freezer so maybe my french dips tomorrow on the run. LOL
Wish me luck on my cake cause god knows I need it.
Good luck Kay on your wedding cake
Hope everybody that is sick gets good results and know that we at the Goatleys are praying for you !!!
Leilly I think I run into you more than anybody, glad to be lucky enough !!!!
Last night was Tuna Noodle casserole (I had this strange craving
) Glad that is done and over with...have no more craving for tuna now YIPEEE!!!
Hope to see ya'll later ![]()
Have a great day!!!!!!!!!!!
((((((((Hugs)))))))))
Hey everyone! Twin--I know your cake will be just beautiful!!!! Make sure to tell us all when it's in your pics. You can do it and the couple will be just thrilled! And YOU BETTER go get that test done--don't make me come see ya' to drag your butt to the Doc's.
leily-how's the company? They leave soon don't they?
Ohara- how was the catering for that big ol' crowd?
christi--glad to have ya back--how have you been feeling?
and to anyone I missed--hope you are well.
Update for those who asked---my test is this coming Tuesday at 1:00. It's just an advanced breathing test that I'm having done at the hospital. I'm not too worried. After I get the results from that I have to go and schedual a CAT scan and whatever else scans and tests they want done.
Then comes the pain of having to pay for what my insurance won't cover
My cousin is doing better but still in the hospital. Her mom called her a few days after her being in the hospital because she was "too busy to call"
Not only that she checked her messages at the airport and still decided to go home rather than go be with her daughter as she was going into surgery. I swear, some people shouldn't be allowed to have kids.
oops, forgot to say I had tomato soup and grilled cheese for dinner.
I also made a pretty cupcake bouquet (21 mini cupcakes) for my paster and his wife for 21 years of service. It looked great until it completely flipped over while driving. The box it was in turned on it's side. Oh well, it was a suprise so I'll just make it again for them for Sunday. I couldn't help but laugh. I was watching it in slow motion.
mkolmar I hope your tests go well!!! And I think I hate cupcake bouquets!!!!!! Whilst driving with my first one I kept hearing little bitty thumps...yep..mine fell over also!!! ![]()
Today for dinner will be blt's and chips
(I am feeling well, drinking protein shakes for breakfast and lunch and eating a really small meal for supper) ![]()
Also working on my first fondant bow, having lots of trouble (it's not due till the 30th BUT....)...can anybody here at the table give me some great advice??? And do the stupid *&^#*^ things start to look better after you assemble and add in little twirly things???
More than likely doing cheese pizza tonight. I worked out too hard yesterday and I can hardly move today. My legs feel like lead. So I'll slice up some fresh fruit also if I can pick up the knife.
(my kids are dissapointed because I was going to make homemade spaghetti sauce and cheezy bread.--but they can hold off till mommy can stand up correctly and not like she has a stick shoved where the sun doesn't shine)
Can you tell I'm sore ![]()
tonight it is shrimp on the barbie! will probably make some rice and veggies to go with it!
Home-grown pork chops on the BBQ
Buttered potatoes with parsley from the garden
Chopped salad (fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, green onions) with sliced olives and kidney beans
And for dessert...
MORE OF MY FIRST WILTON CAKE!!! Lemon cake, lemon filling and class BC frosting...and all those little stars...
Welcome to the table you two.
Tonight was grilled turkey and cheese sandwhiches, applesauce, bananas, and corn on the cob. Dessert was cupcakes and popcorn.
we are watching a movie so I better get back to it. Ya'll have a great night.
Well I'm back. Had a good time with my sister last week. (We met in Indianapolis for a week of girl shopping) She had a disaster at her house while we were there. Her husband called Tuesday morning, they were in the middle of having a new roof put on and a horrible storm happened. They have SO much water damage their house, it won't be habitable for 3 months.
Oh, yes did I mention that they have 6 kids. They are living in a 2 bedroom hotel. I am so sad for them.
Tonight for dinner I made grilled ribs and potatoes w/ onions. Also had corn on the cob. Dinner was so yummy that my tummy hurts, because I ate to much. I try never to over eat, I hate the way it makes me feel. Tonight however, I failed. ![]()
Welcome to the new ones at the table. Pick which chair at the table you'd like, and stay awhile. ![]()
Christi...glad your back.
leily....where are you??? Are you rejoicing that your company's gone?
mkolmar...loved the cupcake bouquet, sorry it fell over. Let us know how the test goes tomorrow.
Kay....how did the cake go?? I'm sure it was beautiful. Post pictures soon.
Monica....if your checking in ....I hope you are doing well. I am praying for your quick recovery.
Hope all are well.
Jennifer
Ohara- That's awful! I'll be praying for your sisters family.
I think Kay is still probably trying to recover from all the stress of her first wedding cake, I'm sure it was beautiful and can't wait to see the pics.
Monica--wishing for a quick recovery.
Leily must be doing the happy dance that her company is gone unless (heaven forbid) there was another plaine issue.
Christi--glad to see you are eating a little more.
Tonight was tomato soup, fresh green beans, sauted zucchin-yellow squash- onion and green pepper. Kids had sauted chicken with a little bit of garlic, parmesan, basil and sundried tomato (all in sprinkling form--sprinkled on) Jon had his chicken sauted with honey mustard, teryiaki, soy sauce, ginger and a little hot sauce in brown rice and in a multi-grain wrap. Boy that's a lot of grains for DH ![]()
I'M BACK Is that my empty chair over there by leily??? ![]()
WELCOME TO ALL THE NEWBIES
OK it has been an AWESOME and crazy week.
I did make the french dips. My sons friend could get enough of them. Sloppy Joes and fries another night. Frozen battercrip cod and steak fries another night. Steak and baked potatoes, corn Sat. night. That was the day the wedding cake was due. And I actually had time to sit and relax.
The cake turned out ok. I did a sample cake to see how the cake design I came up with her topper. I didn't get to see the topper till the week before. That was one reason I was so busy. It was a tall bride and groom that was a porclien look with some silvery look on the brides dress. I don't think they went together well. But cake by itself I think looked pretty good. I wish I would have gotten the topper sooner then I could have made it look better. At least I didn't have to set it up in front of the guests like they originally wanted.
And that Night was our towns CRUISE NIGHT. They cruise old cars that night. People come from all over for this event. It grows more every year. There were around 500 cars officailly enter in the events. But almost triple that amount just cruise and don't enter in the contests. My DS was one of those. His first year ![]()
he was cruising his dads 91 Camero with his best friend and thier girls. bring me back to my first CRUISE NIGHT
20 years ago ![]()
But the most AWESOME DAY WAS SUNDAY. We were to take my DS friend home. He lives near Omaha around 3 hours away. And we found out DH favorite NASCAR driver Carl Edwards was going to a dirt track to race with his brother, and dad. And they had an autograph session. So we had a big day. Our first stop was in Lincoln at OLD COUTRY BUFFET
A great place to fill up 2 teen boys and DH. And alot of picky DD to pick from. I started with a salad so I wouldn't get to full and feel losey in the heat later. I had alittle meatloaf, alittle salsbury steak, mashed potatoes with gravy. We are talking a couple of bite of each thing. And I was still pretty full. ![]()
Then onwards to the track. We stand in the hot sun and wait for a hour to get the tickets. And then we go in and wait for another hour to met him. But it was well worth it. He is a real HOTTIE.
Buffet lunch for 5 $52.00
Race ticket for 5 $40.00
Water bought at the track $20.00
Gas to go there $60.00
The look on DH'S face when he met Carl PRICELESS
Ohara I am glad you are back. I am glad you had a good time. I am sorry to her about your poor sister. That has to be an aweful mess. I hope they can get it fixed real soon.
Hey twin I hope you feel better soon. I would hant to cook if I felt that way either. I would have cryed if that happened to me even if it were a suprise.
TractorDiva don't you just love those little stars LOL
mvhatteras Shrimp YUM
wgoat I get those craving once in a blue moon for tuna also. I will make it and be done for awhile. Dang now I want a tuna sandwhich ![]()
Are you doing the bow for course 3?? Or for something else?? I have only done the one for class and it look ok together.
Ok I better stop now I think I wrote a small book LOL
Dang I just reread my post. Sorry for all the typos.
And twin I meant if the cupcake thing tipped on me I would have cried. It didn't come out that way though.
