I know everyone's gone to bed, but I JUST finished my little guy. He looks more like a chess pawn than a figure in a tux at the moment, so I'll post pics when he's put together tomorrow. I think the little touches of color will finish him off perfectly. I am proud of him, even though I think he looks horrible. icon_smile.gif Had a heck of a time trying to smooth the fondant, scrapped one of the layers because of it. There is definitely a back to this thing, though to be honest, the fronts not much better, just a little more smooth. icon_smile.gif Oh well, he's my first 3d carved cake, except for a ball I did before. I need fondant practice! Time to try MMF! You know a ball is easier to cover in fondant than a cake?
The things I learned from this cake...patience, lots of it. The WBH cookies and cream filling is good, as is the fudgy blender ganache icing. The durable cake can be made with Devils food and a box of chocolate pudding. And sometimes its better to hide the cake where you can't see it when you're ready to smash it.

I am trying to catch up on this thread, I got hungry around pg. 35? with the talk of Mrs. Knott's fried chicken. I love going there! I don't even go into the park, I just go for the chicken and the boysenberry pie. So gooood!!! And all of the talk about D-land, almost makes me want to go back. So I will leave you now and read the rest later, it will probably be 10 pages longer!

hey there, neni

Goodmorning to everyone. I'm the first one here? It's 10:12 EST where is everyone.

Do any of you know if you do a cake in Fondant can you put it in the fridge until it's ready to be delivered?????????????

Now I'm working on gumpaste bows. I just want to go back to bed. It's one of those light rainy days that just make you so tired.

I went to JoAnn's to get pearl dust I ran out. You can only buy the three piece. Pearl, Gold and Silver. I guess one day I will use the other colors. Wilton is just so limited on what they have.

I ordered Luster Dust from CC in different colors. I never used it before, now I love it. I am going to try some with my air brush I will let you know how that works.

Album I'm embarrassed that I own - Gary Lewis and the Playboys. For those of you that don't know them, Gary Lewis is Jerry Lewis's son. He sang "This Diamond Ring". They lasted 15 min.

I had forgotten how crackly albums sounded. And to think we were happy listening

I'll be popping in on and off to check on you'al. I have got to get that cake together. I'm startin to pick up a little speed.

Don't forget JoAnn's got Wilton stuff on clearance. Does anyone know if they let you use a coupon like Michael's?

If Michael's has Wilton on clearance it will also take 40% off with the coupon. If the cashier tells you you can't ask her to try anyway.

I was buying a cleance item and another regular price item. When the cashier scanned the coupon it took 40% of the higher price, which was the clearance item. Even the cashier was surprised.
Since then I've done it again.

I guess Wilton is going to come out with a big lineup seeing how so much of the Wilton was on clearance. They do this once a year and it's a hit or miss and I usually get miss because it's so far I don't get there offten.

Michael did their clearance a couple of months ago. The do a couple of items at a time and spread it out. JoAnn's just clears all at once.

Wilton's luster dust, sparkle dust whatever it's called sucks.

Still working on flowers. Wanted to see what everyone was up to.

Which way did he go? Which way did he go? He went for Fago. (it may me an Eastern thing)

Oh yes, WILTON FONDANT - can also be used for pest control - I bet even bugs won't eat it, we should try it in our garden!

Morning, sorry I'm here so late. Was up late finishing the cake and am now cleaning up behind it. I'm tempted just to leave it for a couple more hours, but Mimi is coming then. She's like having Raymond's mom for a MIL when it comes to cooking and cleaning and taking care of Kairi, yeah you do it, but she can do it better, and the house is never clean enough. I think she has 10 pieces of furniture in her whole big house, and no kids, so I'm sure that makes it easier. icon_smile.gif Haha, no Im kidding, I love the lady. Is she reading this?! icon_eek.gif

Lord, I sure hope so, cause that's where my little baby is right now. And the icing under him sets up pretty hard, too.

You're so right about that. Let's just keep it at ear/plugs. icon_lol.gif

Good Morning all,
I just woke up and I'm making breakfast for the little ones but I'm checking in on what's been going on without me. 4 pages. I'll have to read and see what's up.

Janette,
How are you this morning.

I am peachy, thank you for asking. I thought I would be tired and not have energy to work on the cake. I just finished the flowers and now I have to make 256 pearls. I'm getting there.

Boy, can you tell the husbands are at home, no-one's here.

I looked it up, Fondant can be put in the fridge as long as you cover it with plastic wrap. There is a decorator her last name Colbert, I've seen her name here before. That's where I got the info from.

I ran out of pearl luster dust. I did the smaller flowers with it. I got Wilton's for my Roses. Forget it. I need to buy a doz pearl luster dust from CC and keep on hand. I love all the different colors too.

Where did Cake_Freak go? I've seen some that I had ask about are back.

Well, back to work I go - later

Hey I was at Michael's saw some of the new Wilton Line up... there is a sparkle dust and a pearl dust... I didn't buy any ( I can get it here cheaper and know it works) Does the Wilton pearl dust suck as well as the fondant? I will be making fondant EAR plugs in just a bit.. icon_lol.gif

I'm going to use pearl dust here in just a moment. The lady at the cake shop said it will give a whitish appearance besides the glitteriness if you do it on colored fondant. I'm okay with that. icon_smile.gif

For Iridescent use the luster dust. That's what I used on the Cinderella Carriage.

I'm so happy there aren't 17 pages for me to catch up on. I hate to be left out. icon_razz.gif

I hope every one is having a good weekend. I'm doing laundry and took a break earlier. Hubby took me to the mall to buy some make up.

I needed it. icon_wink.gif

I actually want white iridescence (okay I looked it up this time! icon_lol.gif )

I am wondering if one of the pearls is what I need to order but I don't understand the difference between them. I think ShirleyW posted on the difference once. I need to find it I guess!

Hey there, anyone out there in I Hate Wilton land? Which is really a joke since they have sooooo much of my money.

I am excited!! There's a cake walk for the PTO and I am helping my sister decorate cakes for it. I GET TO BAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BUT they want character cakes so I headed over to JoAnn's and stocked up on clearance pans. Nothing exciting. I need to get my sister registered for the Gumpaste class with me. Um, I am ONLY 34, but I can barely read the instructions on the back of the character pan sheets the writing is so small...am I blind or what?

I am too lazy to go back and check but who's mom is getting them CC stuff? Is it a birthday gift? Lucky you. Hope you get something fun. I have to buy some americolor and luster dusts.

**(something) when you were a kid....(something) wish you still did.....that's why we....drink Fago***

LOVE the stuff.

Got you beat...I bought every album that Bruce Willis made and know them by heart....probably still, but his are mostly remakes anyway. I think I was the only one buying them back then.. icon_smile.gif

Hope everyone is having a nice weekend. Where do you guys get your airbrush from? Is it the same as what you paint with (I am thinking nail manicures and I can't see that buy maybe?) I better get to bed, my muchkin gets up sooooo early. Take care, all. Happy decorating. Welcome to the newbies posting here. Join in, whenever...I usually just talk to fill space. hahahaha

sweet- it is my mom! She is just doing it for fun! That is so both of our love languages! I can't wait to see what it is! She won't tell me!

I bought several luster dusts from here! They are great! They are in the coolest little lipgloss-esque containers! So they untwist. The ones I had first tried from the local cake store were great but 2xs as much and when I open them they flip out dust! icon_sad.gif Have I mentioned I love CC! I also bought some americolor! The red and black both worked great and NO toothpicks cause it is a squeezy dripper bottle!! Yeah (my DH hates the toothpicks from the wilton pastes cuz once when he smooshed down the trash he stabbed himself!!! YIKES!!!!)
