Teal Floral Wedding
Smaller wedding cake I delivered today. She had a topper but I waited around awhile and it didn't show up so oh well, they can stick it on there. Whipped buttercream and (last minute!) gumpaste petals and leaves. Royal icing centers.
Nittany Lion Shrine
This was alot of work, and I was not happy with the head (esp from the side view, almost resembled a pig!) but I think they'll be okay with it. Very bottom layer is styrofoam...next layer (brown rock) is cake...supports inside legs, and then wooden support with bottom half styrofoam (made the head difficult to plan) and top half cake.
Pink Wedding Cake
This is a design the bride chose from Pink Cake Box. Two of the tiers are dummy layers. The rest is cake, done in fondant. A few fresh flowers. The planner was not done doing the table underneath but I had to get going. :-) Wow, the cutters for these scrolls are pricey! haha.
Kentucky Derby Hat
This cake was tons harder than I thought it would be! I was supposed to copy a white floppy tulle hat but change the colors to what is pictured...I was thinking "Oh no sweat, I'll just drape fondant everywhere". Right. So this one had me sweating the entire time...but hey royal icing borders and pearl dust are great! Still not what I had pictured in my head but I think she'll like it okay.
This cake was, for the most part, designed by the customer according to the theme of the Bar Mitzvah. "Wilk" is the last name, thus the theme. The gumpaste plaque on top is the boy. They plan to put the candles along the top of the bottom tier so we left that somewhat empty. The second dark photo shows that the globe stand has LED lights inside.
Birthday cake, customer provided figures and topper, also basically designed cake. All fondant...plenty of sparkles. Love sparkles! I probably would have done a few things differently but the customer is always right!
Someone wanted a two-tiered version of a cake found on Flickr..."Pink Apron" I think is who is the originator. I don't really like how the cookies look, my letters spread so they don't look very neat, I'd have preferred just making them out of royal or fondant or something...but oh well. She wanted the cookies! Anyway...iced in buttercream with buttercream borders and fondant accents.
The girl wanted alot of red and black with some hot pink...I had a hard time deciding whether to do the bottom tier white or red. I had red, and then at the last minute changed to white. Now...I think I should have done red. It would have made the entire cake a bit more bold. But oh well! I think she'll like it anyway, I hope. Its a surprise delivery for a mom, at her work, from a daughter who had to go out of the country and miss her birthday.
Black Ribbon And Scrolls
This cake was delivered by my dear hubby but then he had trouble getting it up on the tall pedestal they had for the cake and he accidentally put his thumb in the black scrolling! So he tried to neaten it up as best as he could but he is NOT the decorator. haha. He put the mess towards the back so hopefully it won't be a huge issue. The scrolling was to roughly match some scrolling on their invitations. The icing is non crusting buttercream and then black grosgrain ribbon trim.
Garden Themed Shower
The main idea was taken from a cake the customer found at Tiny Little Oven Cakes, and then we made a few of our own changes to make it different. I feel sorry for whoever has to cut this...what a mess! haha
Welcoming Ceremony Cake
This was a cake my customer found online (sorry I do not know where she got the photo). There are only a few changes I made like the board being pink and the message and a few other small changes. To save time, I ordered the gumpaste sprays. The bassinet is royal icing and the shoes are gumpaste...although the paper towel is still there since I am having technical difficulties with the strap! Grrr.
Cross For Christening
I forgot to take a pic of this one until the last minute after I had it boxed up. Oops. Sort of an old style decorative Wilton type of thing but the customer liked it.
Cupcake Tree Topper
The customer picked up the cupcakes and topper...and I forgot to take pix until the last minute after the topper was boxed up. I emailed her in hopes I would get a photo out of her but have not heard back. Oh well!
This was the groom's cake for "Let Them Eat Cake". I had a very hard time getting a good pic of this due to lighting issues. Its all cake, and the head/hat is RKT.
Celtic Competition Cake
This was my entry to "Let Them Eat Cake" bridal show/competition. It is made of dummy cakes except the top tier is real cake. My only regret is that I didn't leave myself enough time to really take time on this cake and my piping is sloppy and unprofessional. I did end up liking my design though...its just when you look close you can see how sloppy it was.
Not sure whose original idea this is but the customer gave me a photo from pinkcakebox to work from as well as a figure from some other site...and then some color changes. Cool styrofoam stand I got from my bakery supply...disposable enough to charge the customer and let them keep it. The venue was very dark, hard to get a nice shot.
Hansel And Gretel
This was actually done for a February Throwdown here on CC. However my throwdown partner, after I made this, had a family emergency and put it off until March but then in March I didn't hear from her OR the one who was hosting the throwdown. Oh well. I donated this to a hospital staff break room and decided to go ahead and upload it here.
Bulldog Groom's Cake
This is a reproduction of a groom's bulldog, chewing on an Xbox controller. I prefer the look of airbrushing to handpainting, but its too hard to get the details right with the airbrush without messing up the white parts.
Manolo Blahnik Shoe
This is my first shoebox/shoe cake and I was so excited but had SO many troubles! My first panels were messed up so had to make a second set last minute, and the measurements were wrong somehow on the second set so the box is very messy looking, lots of royal icing "caulk". The shoe was also challenging, being all closed in. But it was fun anyway! The bow grew as I had to cover messups. haha.
Haunted House Birthday Party
Made for a haunted house birthday, something about a pirate in a haunted house and ghosts with green teeth...I just follow orders. Two tiers with steps carved in and a chocolate 3D house on top, with bc accents.
Western Cowboy Baby Shower
Made this cake to match my friend's baby crib set she just got. I guess its not a very good place for a baby to sleep (by a cactus) but he looked cozy enough. haha.
Cruise ship for a corporate going away party, serves about 70-75 or so. Wish I could have made it longer and a bit more streamlined but it wouldn't have fit into my fridge!
Favorite Books And Scrapbooking
Done for a customer who requested her daughter's favorite books as well as a scrapbook page. Didn't turn out as well as I'd like but hopefully they like it. My photography also stinks! Thanks for looking.
Floral Gift Boxes
This was requested for a baby shower, to match some brown invitations with some light floral pattern on them. I had trouble taking the photo as it was SO humid and the cake was sweating...plus the dark brown was giving me trouble with the lighting. Anyway I wasn't sure how this would come out but I think it came out ok, except my fondant was too thick on the bow, and I could have done a better job making that more realistic.
