Cake With Slice Missing
Thanks to Suebee, Cambo, Pinkbunny and Psurrette for posting their versions of this style of "trompe l'oeil" cake. I loved them all and thought I'd try my hand at something fun. The client gave me the floral design to copy somewhere on a cake, so I did it as the side pattern and wowed him with the rest.
One thing I couldn't do was to put my slice standing up. The cake itself was already 6" tall, so it was too delicate to have another 6" standing on top....so I laid it on it's side instead.
Could you tell me how you do this. This so pretty!!
How absolutely adorable - Luv it - it's a fav. P.T.
Ice the cake normally, chill it well, cut out a slice and then ice all the bare cake to mimic the layered cake look. It's actually very easy!
great job
really super job!! Love the colors and really like the way the cake looks with the slice on its side
WOW! And WOW again! That is just so cool!
Wonderful mimicking of a cut cake!!!! Wonderful cake decorator!!!
very original and cute
How beautiful this is. Excellent.
This is delightful and it's kind of neat to have the slice lying down. Terrific job!

That is so cool - I love the laid down slice! :) Is the banner gumpaste?

That is such a clever idea! How did you get that sharp "cutoff" of the border on the wedge sliced out?

Very nice. I followed a thread on these slice of cake. I like your idea to lay it down on its side. What size pan did you use for this one? It does indeed look tall!
Oo's, I meant what size around pan ( ) I am assuminga 6" cakepan was used. Thanks!
GI, the cake was a 10" round cake that was a thick triple-layer of 6" in height.
