hmmmm, I'm gonna have to try tilapia in aluminum foil and baked. I love tilapia and have always fried it but use only 1 tsp of olive oil. Comes out great but I would like to try it baked like that. Thanks for the idea. I haven't seen their yogurt. I'll look for that as well. Haven't tried the lemon cake but I know the chocolate is really good. I take teeny weeny lil bites so that it will last longer. lol

Margie, she is down 28lbs I believe. Which puts her at the weight she was before she quit smoking. She went to weigh in Monday and only lost 1/2lb and was bummed about it. They are going to Mexico tomorrow for a trip. She wasn't thrilled about buying a swimsuit or anything.

She hasn't been eating the 'diet plan' strictly since before Christmas. My grandma had surgery on her neck on the 10th and there was complications afterward, so there were alot of evenings spent at the hospital, then shopping and so on. Basicly life happened, and they weren't eating at home at 6 every day like they had been the month before.

My great uncle is also dying of cancer. They just put him on hospice this week. They didn't have any kids and my great aunt just lost a sister back in the fall. She is one of those people that has always taken care of everyone else so we are worried that when he passes she is going to completely fall apart and not be able to handle it. They've been married for over 50 years, so I can't even imagine knowing you have to say goodbye and watching the man you love slowly die.

So she's had alot on her plate between my grandma and her great uncle and I think even with that the 28lbs is awesome. Of course she watches the biggest loser and thinks she should have lost more. I keep trying to pump her up, but last night I wanted to go, really mom, if I had lost 28lbs I'd be done, so I don't know why you are complainging.

I do know though that when you are trying on clothes (like she has to for this trip) and are between sizes in what you had and are trying to buy that it causes all kinds of not fun emotional issues. Hell just losing weight causes enough emotional issues to deal with.

I did have laughed at my dad because with her diet he has figured out all these ways to cut calories. And how you can ate more good for you stuff at less calories than bad for you stuff. I told him yesterday, that if he had listened to me before he would already know that. Sometimes it just takes hearing it from a different source or in a different way for it to really click.

Shelley, I'm glad you got to show up Hubby with his ice cream.

Doesn't KFC have a grilled chicken 'plate' that is under 400 calories? I know I read about it online where they said the price was based off the calories. I don't know the WW points system, but it would be a great meal for anyone trying to lose weight.

We had Taco Bell last night, and they have a new under 200 calorie menu. I didn't go, but had told my dad to get me something off it, and he came back with Feista Chicken Tacos. I had two, but still that was 400 or less calories. They weren't bad either. I did want something later that night, but it was a sweet craving.

I took some fat burners for two weeks but decided I didn't like them. I'm not sure they helped or not, but they made me jittery as hell, and figured that feeling wasn't worth the $30 I paid for them. I don't walk around hungry so I'm not sure the appetite suppresents would work well for me. I don't think they stop mindless eating. I would say before I took them, every time you feel hungry drink a glass of water. It is alot cheaper and will give your stomach that full feeling. Of course if that didn't work then you could always try them.

Tilapia, mmmm, one of my favorite fish, since it takes on the flavor of what you put on it. I like it baked as well. I lay it on a piece of foil that has been coated with cooking spray (easy clean up) then spray a little of the cooking spray on the fish and dust it with Lemon and Herb seasoning. Yummy! The cooking spray helps the seasoning stick but doesn't have all the calories the oil does.

Oh yes, the cooking spray does work well. I use a lemon pepper seasoning and I also put lemon juice or fresh lemon. I think we both use the same concept. YUMMY!

Someone else mentioned that 400 calorie KFC meal too. I will have to check that out.

Tracy - your family has sure been put through it lately. I am so sorry to hear about your uncle. Hospice is a wonderful organization.

My sil is taking metabolite (sp). She says she likes it. There is a formula without the caffiene.

Tracy, I'm so very sorry to hear of all the medical problems with your relatives. I think your mom has done remarkably well, especially under such stressful situations. On top of that having quit smoking. WOW, she must be one tough lady. I don't know her but you can tell her that I'm very proud of her!!! Every time I spend time at a hospital, I end up eating things that aren't good for me. I have better foods to choose from but it's like, no, I need comfort and I go off track. icon_rolleyes.gif Just an issue that has put me in the position that I'm in now. I think that the toughest time to stay focused and on track is when a situation suddenly arrises that causes a great deal of stress and worry. It gets me every darned time. Gotta figure out how to get around that for sure.!

Shelley, my first "diet" was through a Dr's weight loss clinic. They automatically gave you a diuretic and diet pills. I took them for a couple of months and my hair started falling out really, really bad. I went to a specialist and was told that it was caused by the diet pills and to get off of them immediately. Before that I had tried "dieting" on my own and bought an appetite suppresant over the counter. Can't even think of the brand now. Anyway, it caused me to be very jittery. I couldn't stand that so I just stopped taking them. I've come to realize that "diets" don't work for me. I need to continue a healthy eating and exercise lifestyle and that starts with me educating myself about foods that are healthy and filling and a plan that I can stick with for the rest of my life. If I am eating right with lots of nutritious food, I never really get hungry. I just need to stay focused because I do still get cravings for something sweet every now and then. But I'm finding that the small portions of Weightwatcher snacks may just be the answer to those times that I crave something sweet.

I like the WW program so far. I signed up just before Thanksgiving but the holidays really messed me up.

When I spoke to my SIL the other night and she told me bout those pills I just laughed. I occasionally get hungry but I have my water jug and go to town on water.

Losing your hair sounds scarey! I hope you don't have any long-lasting affects from it.

Thank you ladies!

Margie, my parents have actually been smoking free for about two years now. The both gained afterward and I think they are back to where they were before they quit. Their doctor told them to actually wait a year or so after quiting before they tried to lose the weight.

I hope they have fun on their trip and that they can get in a better routine when they get home. Atleast she has kept losing, even if it is small amounts through out the holidays, rather than gained.

My grandma actually broke a bone in her neck in Sept and was in a halo. After 6 weeks it had not healed at all so they said they would have to do surgery, and it took them a month to get the surgery scheduled. She's 83, diabetic and has oseprosis (sp). The sugery went fine, but afterward she developed two blood clots, one in each long and gained alot of fluid. She's getting better now, thankfully!

I totally agree that stress for times are the worst to lose. But we do know that it will always be there so we have to figure out how to deal with it huh?

Congrats on the loss Tracy!! (I keep spelling your name differently, is there an e before the y or did I get it right this time? lol!!) Way to go on the mile on Hank!! That is a great start, and every little bit helps. Starting off with too much exercise is a sure way to get tired of it and get discouraged.

Margie, it sounds like you have some realistic goals!! icon_smile.gif You can access the 30 day shred on You Tube, but they are in 10 minute segments so you have to be able to click the next video twice to get the full workout in....

I've never been a pepsi, coke or soda lover at all. I did used to drink umpteen spoonfuls of sugar and high fat cream in my teas and coffee, over time I have converted to black of both. I have 2 cups of green tea a day, and 2-3 cups of coffee (my travel mug holds 2 anyways!), but otherwise I drink loads of water, and skim milk with meals... If only I could stop eating chocolate, I'd be fine! lol! Last night I opened my baking cupboard for the first time since before Christmas and found a gigantic chocolate bar (likely bought to make ganache over Christmas), so DH and I finished that off... Then I polished off a huge hunk of melted Brie cheese with crackers. Ugh. I THINK the Christmas junk is all gone now.

Shelley, I'm happy to hear you are losing the weight again! I hope your knee is feeling better soon, as long as you are eating well you should continue to lose, which is much better on your joints too! icon_smile.gif Sounds like you are doing awesome on WW too! I haven't used appetite surpressants, I prefer to keep my fibre and protein intake high and I find that helps a bit! A high fibre snack bread with some real PB ties me over longer than a chocolate bar (although I do love chocolate so much). Truthfully I'm a bit weary of chemicals/drugs that are not prescribed to me for a medical condition.

Hugs to you for your uncle Tracy. icon_sad.gif

I start my running clinic tonight! Tonight we are only running 3 km but I did run 6.4 km yesterday so that was good! icon_smile.gif Unfortunately it is very icy today so hopefully the ice melts a bit before 6pm! I am also taking in a free aerobics class over my lunch hour, I haven't been to one of these in a while but a few people in my building put off free classes over lunch in our building, so it's a great bad-day option!!

Have a great day everybody!

Katherine, it is Tracy with no e. I also answer to Trace though, so seeing a combination of the two doesn't bother me.

I upped Hank to level two last night. It didn't feel much different to me, but I did burn 83 calories on level two so that is a few more than before. I also did 9 leg exercises. Some leg lifts and step ups with an exercise step I have. Oh and some squat things. Ugh, I really don't like squats. icon_wink.gif Right now my legs aren't hurting but I have a feeling late this afternoon I'm going to go to get up from my desk and hurt.

Yesterday evening I printed out many pages of exercises for the different parts of the body. I still need to figure out how I want to do them though. Part me of me says do arms one day and legs the next, but then there are arm stuff you can do with leg stuff to make double use of the time. So if I do the two together I still have to skip a day in between and can't figure out what to do on that day. I'm afraid if I don't do something like that daily I'll put it off or stop doing it.

As of right now I plan to work out on Hank every day, especially until I can build up to two miles or more. So these exercises will be in addition to that.

Chocolate sounds good! I've had a little the last few days. I have some Dove Dark Chocolate squares behind my desk in a filing cabinet. I will get one if I just need that chocolate pick me up, but by keeping it out of site I haven't snacked on them near as often as I could have. If they were sitting out on my desk I would have eaten the bag by now. I do keep some other snacks in the drawer for my brother, like cookies, but I never find myself wanting those, only the chocolate. icon_smile.gif

Hope you have fun at the clinic. How do km compare to miles? Aerobics class huh? I'd say that sounds like fun, but well.... icon_wink.gif I bet you will enjoy it though!

1 mile = 1.6 kilometers, so in the half marathon clinic the goal is to run 13 miles (about 20.8 kilometers). My longest runs were two 10 mile races last year (16 kilometers each). icon_smile.gif

Tracy, Hank seems to be doing you well! icon_smile.gif

I like lifting weights 3 times a week and doing a combo of upper and lower body, but if you are doing combination exercises, (for example squats with bicep curls) on a lower body day, just ensure that you skip your biceps the next day during upper body! icon_smile.gif My weight routine consists of three to four sets of: 3 reptitions of two exercises, 2 minutes cardio, 1 minute abs...

So I would do:
5 minute warm up on recumbent bike

15 squats
10 bicep curls (now repeat squats and curls two more times)

2 minutes cardio (jumping jacks, skipping, something like that)

1 minute ab crunches, oblique, leg raises, or something

Then do two or three other sets with different weight exercises, cardio drills and ab exercises.

I guess I need to figure out what parts of the muscles the different things do. icon_wink.gif

I don't think I'd have a problem doing them all on one day, I'm just not sure what to do on the days in between. Everything I can think of engages the muscles, such as work out videos, so then they really wouldn't be getting that break.

If you were doing weight bearing exercises 3 times a week, aerobics and stuff are fine on the alternate days! They don't actually count as weight exercises even if the muscles are engaged. icon_smile.gif

That's good information to know Katherine. I do have some that focus on the different body parts but I'll keep in mind to do the more all over ones inbetween.

I think what I am going to do is through out this weekend time myself and see how long it takes me to do the different exercises. If a good variety of them take too long then I may just break it up into body parts, even if I could multi task on some of them.

Right now I only have one class this month, but next month that could change and I need to be prepared in for those cases where I don't have all night to do my work outs.

I have some time to figure it out still, so hopefully I'll get a plan going. icon_smile.gif I just have to remember I don't have to do 10 different exercises at a time, I can break it up into smaller amounths.

The weight watchers program helped me lose 100 pounds. I weighed 215 and I weigh 111-116 depending on my time of the month.

I stay away from junk food, white flour, and sugar.

My dessert is yogurt with fresh fruit on top.

I recommend weight watchers.

Also walking and keeping a diary.

Once I saw what I ate I focused on another activity.

If I have cravings for sugar I would eat an apple with cheese, or carrot sticks with hummus dip.

If I attend a party I eat a healthy dinner so I am not tempted to eat sweets.

Katherine I so agree with you, I hate weekends as well. I want to (and uusally do) sleep in and get totally off schedule with eating.

I ate twice on Saturday well three times if you count Whatabuger after midnight (after going to the bar) and then twice on Sunday. I slept in Sunday, so I totally missed breakfast.

I worked out on Hank a half of a mile on Friday, a mile on Saturday and didn't play with him at all yesterday. I also did some leg exercises on Saturday and danced that night.

I did finally start cleaning up my kitchen this weekend after I did the cake. I need to go through the stuff on my bar time and figure out what I am doing with all the left over cookie stuff from the Christmas cookies. My kitchen doesn't have alot of cabinets and what cabinets I do have all have dishes of some sort in them, minus the cabinet that has the baking and spices/seasonings in it. So I have no pantry room.

I currently have a metal shelving unit that needs to be moved to the cake room that does hold some of my pantry items, though it is completely full too, since it also holds appliances I don't often use. Can you tell I may have too many kitchen items?

Yesterday I went to Walmart and stocked up on fresh veggies and fruit. I also bought some more ground turkey and a turkey loin (I think), as well as some chicken breasts. I also go to some breafast stuff. I cleaned out my fridge since I had some things that were out of date. Over all it was a pretty productive day.

Tonight I plan to clean out the freezer. I figure spaghetti sauce that has been in there for atleast two years now can probably be tossed out. Plus I need more room in there. I have to decide what to do with the fondant that has been in there since last summer. Hmmm....

I will also use tonight to cook up some stuff that I bought so I can eat this week and then freeze part of for later use. One day I will find balance in cooking for one and buying in bulk to save money. I hope anyway. icon_smile.gif

I feel good about this week!

Another tip. Just keep moving.

Yesterday, it was too cold to walk outside. I stayed home cleaned the bathrooms, dusted and vacuumed the rooms, plus cooked dinner--slower cooker.

Just as long as you are burning calories. Movement has helped me too loose weight.

Now that we decided to not have a TV in our tiny apartment--no time for me to be a couch potato.

I don't have cable so I don't sit infront of the tv alot, but there are nights where I know when the TV is off I am doing other things, which is always a plus. I keep debating getting cable, but I'm not hooked on many shows. If there is something on cable I want to see I go to my parents house and watch it. They live two miles from me so it isn't far, plus it means I get to see my mom which I see less of since I started working full time.

Cleaning is a great calorie burner, especially since you need up bending and squating alot. Any movement is better than none right?

Hi everyone. I am on weight watchers but I haven't had as much success as I would like. I am certain it is due to the lack of exercise. Over the holidays I gained back everything I had lost and am back to my start weight.

I have started walking again and I have been very active around the house. I am doing WW online.

It is nice to hear a success story. I will certainly keep trying.

I have to laugh at myself, so I am going to let you laugh with me..... The weather in Southwestern KY has been absolutely beautiful the last few days. The snow has melted and the sky is so blue. With the melting of the snow the soil has become very soggy.

I went to the grocery store this morning and had quite a load of groceries to bring in so I decided I would make it easy on myself and drive around to the back of the house where the kitchen door is to unload.

I pulled onto the lawn about 10 feet when my wheels started spinning. My little Chevrolet Aveo is "stuck" in my front yard.

I sat in my car laughing my head off for about 10 minutes when I realized I would have to get out of the car and walk in the mud. I proceeded to do just that when in an instant I was up to my knees in mud.

I was still laughing when I reached the front door. I called my husband and we both laughed together. His reply to me was "At least I will know you are home safe for the afternoon! I will take care of it when I get home from work."

Have a great day everyone! icon_smile.gif

Shelley, sometimes we just have to laugh at ourselves huh? Depending on what kind of day I am having I would have either laughed or cried if I were you.

Now you know the exercise gods were trying to get back at you for trying to take the easy way out of unloading the grocery at the door right? HeHe. icon_wink.gif

Don't worry about the gain, just go from here. We have the tools to lose weight, we just have to use them now.

I also gained during the holidays. I'm slowly working myself back to the pre December weight, but since January is a new month and new year I'm just looking forward when it comes to my weight, not backwards.

Me and my Friend went out Saturday night and I haven't seen her since before Christmas, probably the last time we went out which was right before my birthday. She commented on how I have really slimmed up. So while I gained my body was still transforming its self, especially in the waist area. Now if only my inner thighs would transform to something better.

I was telling her that there is something about my face that I think has changed but that I can't put my finger on it. She said she noticed something too. I lost the roundness the first time I lost weight, so I'm not sure what I think I see differently now and if it is really something different.

Same Here. If we want to watch a show we can use our neighbors next door. He and his wife are ballet dancers and travel all over the world.

They have satellite and give us permission to watch their TV.

We usually check their mail for circulars and water their indoor plants when they are out of town.

Just a little rant...

I was on FoodNetwork.com looking up some recipes. I want to make some polenta since I couldn't find it already made and I ended up venturing into the Healthy Recipe section.

My first complaint is when I am looking for recipes I want recipes. Every other link I clicked on took me to a video, thanks, but I can cook with out watching you do the recipe first.

My second complaint is that only one recipe I saw even listed the calories and fat and such. Now if they are all healthy recipes, you'd think they'd include that information, wouldn't you? I know how you prepare them does make a difference, but I'd like some based numbers to work with. As we all know, ingredients can look low calorie, but even low calories start adding up to bigger numbers.

Guess I'm off to look for another healthy cooking site to see if they include that information or not.

OMG im in love with this thread.... Im 5'9" and weigh 260Lbs I to know how to lose weight its just putting it to a committment thats the issue. Im looking to weight somewhere between 160-170 Lbs I have a ymca membership but its the committment thing again. I work monday-Friday 8:30-5pm We have custody of our 5 yr old granddaughter who is in daycare all day long due to both of us working. When I get home Im just physically, mentally and emotionally drained some days and its hard. Im 43 yeras old and 3 yrs ago had a complete hysterectomy and Im an emotional eater and depressed as can be as well so among the hormone pills theres the anti depressants both which make you gain weight. So being depressed takes away the will to want to do things and being heavy just makes me more depressed.. Any ideas anyone???

Millie Welcom to our little group!

First I'd say discuss the issue with your doctor and get his input on it. Maybe you can try different hormones or anti depressants and see if that helps any? He may also have suggestions for the best plan of action to lose weight while taking the different medications.

Being over weight is a horrible cycle, we eat cause we are bored or stressed or worried and then we gain weight and we eat cause we are unhappy and emotional and so on. We all just have to find that key to breaking the cycle with in us, and I do think for everyone it is different.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, the ladies here are a great support system for me. They understand what I'm going through, they understand the ups and downs and they are always here to give the push I need to keep going.

It is easy to know how to lose weight, to know what you need to do, and then not do it. I've so been there several times myself I'd suggest sitting down and really being honest with yourself. Are you ready to make the changes you have to to lose weight? Are you ready to change how you eat for the rest of your life? Are you ready to exercise?

This doesn't meant you have to jump in with both feet trying to run 2 miles the first day while you eat a very strict diet. This means that you have to be ready to start making the changes you need, even if you take baby steps doing them.

The commitment is hard, but only you can make it and only you can follow through with it. You have to want to do what it takes to lose weight and you have to do it for yourself, and no one else.

If you know you are a emotional eater then you are already a step in the game. Next time you feel like eating just because you are upset or down, find something else to do. Something to take your mind off of food and get it busy thinking about something else. Play with your granddaughter or if you do a hand craft pick it up and work on it. Chances are if you have paper (scrapbooking), yarn (crochet/knit), thread (embrodiery) in your hand you aren't also going to have food in it.

They work in distracting your mind to think of something else and you forget that you really wanted the big bowl of ice cream that you really didn't want. Also they say that exercising is a good thing to do when you are a midless or emotional eater. Again it gets you doing something, plus exercise has a second benefit.

Life will always be busy. It'd be too simple if it wasn't. You will have to find a eating plan that works with your schedule and make time to exercise. If you don't make time to do it, you won't magicly find 30 mins in your daily schedule to do it. You have to commit 30 mins a day or every other day and say this is my 30 mins and I will use it to work out.

Exercise also helps with your mood. It gets the endorphines going and your blood pumping. Plus when you are exercising you are more aware of what you are eating. Win Win all the way around.

Talk to your husband and explain to him how you are feeling, that you want to lose weight and that you need his help and support. Have him help with your granddaughter so you can get some exercise time in or find an exercise you can do as a family. In the long run you getting healthy will benifit everyone in the family.

I know there are 36 pages to this thread, but there is alot of great information in here if you ever get to time to read through it. Feel free to ask anything you want. We all have different ways of losing weight so maybe we can give you some insight on a way that may help you. Or if you are just having that bad day and need a reminder that there is a light at the end of the tunnel we are here for that.

Take it one day at a time, adding in those changes you know you need to make, and before you know it they will become a part of life and won't take so much thinking about.

My hubby came home from work yesterday and pulled my little car out of the mud. She was filthy. I had to stop on the way to work this morning and give her a bath. I didn't even want my car to be seen in the parking lot looking like that.

I lost 1 lb this week. One is better than none. I need to work harder and be more committed to my walking.

I made a cute cake this weekend. My little bear looks like a gremlin. Oh well, the mommy to be loved it. LOL

Have a great day.

Congrats on your pound! You are one pound closer. icon_smile.gif

I'm ready to weigh in tomorrow. I had a sneak peak this morning but we know how moody scales can be.
