OH, Happy Belated Birthday Tracy. party.gificon_redface.gif I'm so sorry I forgot. Been so busy trying to check people off of my Christmas list that I haven't thought of anything else. I do hope you had a wonderful day. Sounds like your mom is going to be your motivator. No way are you going to let mom lose more weight than you icon_lol.gif It's great to have someone so close going for the same goal. You two can work together and will definitely get that weight off!!!!!

Awww, thank you! icon_smile.gif

I had decided I was going to dress up for my birthday dinner. And since I had gotten a nice dress at Penny's this weekend on sale I decided I would wear it. I got my mom to take a picture of me in it, since I don't often get full body pics taken.

I can say though, I don't like the picture on my wide screen monitor at work. Lets just say it distorts it a little. Oh my!

This link is from facebook, but I think it should work for anyone.

OH HEY, there you are. OH Tracy those pictures look GREAT!! Yeah, I agree, that full length picture would look wonderful on a Christmas card. I don't know if it's cause you are wearing black but you sure look slim and trim to me.

Thank you both!

Margie, the last few months I have really slimmed up on my sides giving me a nice figure as my grandma would say. I still have tummy fat, but the style of the dress covers it mostly, unless you see me from the side.

I love and hate things that gather under the boobs. Love it cause it accents more there and can really highlight the curve. Hate it because unless the boob area is large enough it doesn't fit me right.

My parents mentioned infront of the waiter last night that it was my birthday, and he asked how old I am. I in turned asked how old I looked. He told me 22. I was like sure let's go with that. My parents thought maybe he was joking, but he had said that he didn't card me (got a glass of wine) cause I was with my parents, so I really don't think he was joking.

Oh WOW!! How awesome is that? I'm sure the waiter was really serious. You do look very young. I on the other hand went out to Golden Coral for dinner the other night and the cashier asked if I get the senior citizen discount icon_mad.gificon_lol.gif Oh those darned genes........

Margie, the cashier was probablly just a twit! And Shelley, men just don't age much do they? icon_sad.gif

I have the hardest time guessing people's ages because I know everyone guesses young on me, and I factor that in when I guess other peoples ages. I'll often add a year or two to what I think.

Boy have I missed ya'll! icon_smile.gif

I've done good today so far with my eating. So that's a good new start! I'm going to my parents tonight to watch Top Chef and I have almost got myself talked into using the treadmill while I am there.

I also need to make a trip to the grocery store in the next couple of days to stock up on food stuff.

I need some healthy veggie ideas. I love veggies, but don't really care for them raw (except salad stuff). Of course most of the time we cook veggies we top them with butter or cheese or something, and we all know that won't work for losing weight. So any ideas?

Love steamed brocoli, cauliflower with a little fresh lemon. One of my favorite snacks is the individual steamers from the Jolly Green Giant.

I use the "I can't believe it's not butter" spray. That helps me keep the butter under control. If you are anything like me, I love butter. Bad, bad.

Sounds boring but ........

Shelley, are those the ones isn the little black containers?

I do like butter, I have gotten better about not using alot of it. I have also gotten some butter buds or what ever the sprinkle butter stuff is.

I'll have to try the lemon. I think I'll also have to pick up some fresh herbs too.

I get those, the only thing I hate is that they cost so much more than a bigger package of veggies. When you shop for only one, you get cheated on things like this. My parents are like just buy a bigger bag. I told them that works for the ones that you don't steam in the bag, but for the ones you steam in the bag I'm stuck eating the same veggies several times in a row. The other side of that is alot of the other ones come in butter sauce or cheese sauce.

Maybe I just need to buy some fresh veggies and make my own little containers of them for the freezer. Hmm that might work. icon_smile.gif And then I know I'll get the good part of broccoli and not just all the stems. HeHe. Why didn't I think of this before?

Hi Ladies
I would like to join your group as well. Currently I am 168. I am about 25-30 pounds too heavy as I feel my best between 135-140. I did pretty good until I had my last son--2 years ago. I got my tubes tied and it sent me into early menopause. I've struggled with my weight since-belly fat especially. Everyone is so very positive here! How refreshing!

Cakes-r-us, thanks for sharing the body shaper with us. I have seen one called yummy tummy and I may get it after I am done for under form fitting clothing (depending on how bad my tummy does look when I am done). While they are nice for visuals, I still want to actually lose the weight that makes me not like my body and so I can be healthier.

Sometimes I feel all the under garments we can get are fasle advertising, of course I'm still single so I'd hate to have to explain that to a guy. Yeah I know I looked awesome with my clothes on, but now I look two sizes bigger and flabbery with out. icon_wink.gif

My weight is down some more this morning. I'm at 149. Man it is like a teeter tooter. Up and down, up and down, up and down. I'm ready for just some more down's. HeHe.

I went over to my parents last night to watch Top Chef. I ended up having dinner with them, fajitas. I limited myself to only 2 tortillas and we didn't have any of the fatty fixings with them (sour cream or cheese) so that was a plus. I also walked two miles, which walked off the calories in the tortillas. So I am happy about that. Now to just talk myself into doing it agian tonight. I think I can, I think I can.

I can say this, starting over gets easier and easier every time. I think it is because I know what to do and I don't really stray super far away from what I know to do. It isn't like the first time where I had to give up cokes and it seemed like everything. Or the second time when you get away from junk food and larger portions again. Other than the cookies and baking supplies I don't keep alot of bad snack food or other junk food in the house.

My mom is getting to the point in her diet where things get a little tougher, where you are getting tired of eating the same things over and over. I hate that she is on such a strict diet (and am really glad I decided not to do it) but I feel that it is what she needed to get a jump start on the weight lose. She gets disappointed with only losing 3lbs a week, when I'd love to have those numbers. But she's also feeling guilty about eating 'real' food.

When we went to dinner the other night she said she felt guilty about what she ate. When in turn I was proud of her and thought she did awesome. She did not eat any of the hot bread (which she loves hot bread), we split a salad, and she ate less than half of her pasta dinner. I think she made all kinds of improvements than what we would have all done before, and yet she felt guilty cause pasta and cream sauce isn't on her diet. I hope as she gets to add more food back into her diet she has a better relationship with food, but for now it worries me.

I decided several years ago, that the only way I could lose weight is to eat real food. I'm not going to live the rest of my life eating an egg white omelet for breakfast, salad for lunch and a piece of fish for dinner. I like food and I enjoy cooking. Of course that doesn't mean I can't change to healthier cooking/eating habits, but if I want dessert I'm having dessert, just not as much. I think having small amounts of things we crave is better than ignoring the cravings. If I am craving cheesecake it is better for me in the long run to have a small piece than to try to ignore that craving then end up eating a whole dang cheese cake.

Guess I better go do some work now. icon_smile.gif Hope everyone has a good start to their Thursday.

Hey there Melisa. Welcome to our little group. So nice to have you here and I look forward to getting to know you better. There are several of us that are wavering around the 170 mark. Together, I know we can reach our goals. I haven't been as strict with my eating or exercising as I should over the last month. But after the holidays I have every intention of getting my butt back in gear and getting rid of this overhang once and for all icon_lol.gif

I think the postive-ness we have is what keeps us all coming back to work hard and push each other. Even when one of us is having a bad we, we still can help each other out.

We typically weigh in on Wednesdays, but the holidays and life has gotten us a little of track, sound about right huh?

Hey Tracy. Wow, sounds like you've really got it together. I'm so proud of you!!! Yep, I agree 100 percent, in order to make a lifestyle change successful, you've got to eat real food. Something that you can live with on a daily basis. My very first diet restricted all breads, soups, corn, cereal, etc. I lost weight and I lost it pretty quickly. Unfortunately, once I started incorporating carbs back into my diet, I gained even faster than I had lost. It was so disappointing. I learned then that restricting certain food groups was not the right way to try to lose weight. I now eat from all the food groups, just in smaller amounts and for the most part don't eat sweets. However, an occaisional little slice of pie or cake isn't out of the question. Deprevation never works for very long. Anyway, you are doing just great. Keep up the good work and you will be at your goal before ya know it!!

Margie, that is what bothers me about this diet my mom is one. As I said before it seems very adkins-ish and even though they have a doctor on staff, I just don't know about it.

She eats mostly protiens, which your body needs, but your body and muscles also need carbs. Carbs are what feeds them. She has a limited list of veggies she can eat, can't eat beans, pasta, potatoes, and so on. She also isn't allowed any dairy and can have like 2 or 3 servings of fruit for a week.

I know that they have a part where you add things back in and teach you to eat what you need to maintain the weight you loss, but I'm still concearned for her.

She has lost more weight on it than she would have with out it, and she is walking two miles every day. So I'm hoping the pluses out weight the parts that bother me. I haven't told her my concerns, and try to be positive for her, because I know she needs to lose the weight.

I've decided that the food pyrimad is where it is at. You need some of everything, just smaller portions of some of it. icon_smile.gif I don't want to be where I can't go out to eat every now and then with out stressing over the menu and what I can and haven't have. Life it meant to be lived and enjoyed, not counting every little calorie that goes in your mouth then spending the rest of your time working out so it doesn't stick to your body.

Tracy, the diet that I was on was in fact a Dr's diet and I would go to the office once a week to weigh in and see the Dr if I had any questions. They prescribed a diuretic as well as a appetite supressant. As for the menu, it sounds just like the diet your mom is on. Once I reached my goal weight, I was told how to keep it off and gradually add in the carbs. Even eating what I was told and not over indulging, the weight came back on quickly. I will never go on a diet where the carbs are limited like that. . I lost an average of 2-3 pounds a week without even exercising. I thought it was the greatest thing in the world until my hair started falling out by handfuls (diet pill) and then of course the very fast weight gain while even only eating 1200 calories a day. I hope that your mom's experience will be different than mine.

Oh I hate to hear that. That is why I hate all these diets that promise quick weight lose. I'm gonna keep a close eye on her. I tried talking to her before when I was losing weight about things to do, but she would tell me that she isn't not not going to eat. Of course that is what she is doing now.

I'm hoping out of it, both her and my dad do pick up some healthy habits. They are eating smaller more healthy portions. And my dad is finally learning about calories so that's a plus.

I have a couple of books that talk about the body and what happens to food after you eat it. I may pass them on to my mom and see if she will read them. My dad should read them too, but I don't know that he would.

I like the show biggest loser because it gets people up and losing weight and shows people that you can really do it. But like all reality shows it keeps going for the more extreme. I liked the first seasons when the people were smaller and lose more realistic amounts. The normal at home person that has a job and family can not lose double digit numbers week after week. And I think that disappoints the average person. I watched the finaly with my parents the other night. I didn't get to watch it all season cause I taught that night. Even those that lost smaller amounts of weight in my opinion still did an awesome job.

I know they did a show a couple of weeks ago about those that have been on the show in the past and lost and who kept it off, but that was only 40 people. I'd love to see a full list. Because I think they lose it so quickly and so drasticly that they aren't always coping with the emotional stuff behind being heavy. They did show one of the past winners that was right back where he was before the show.

Boy I sound all doom and gloomy this morning and I'm really not. I'm feeling motivated, which is really good for this time of year. I guess I'm just going through in my head of all the things I have learned and know not to do.

Wouldn't it be great if there was a 'diet' book out there written by the average person that did it in a normal way? Not someone that was out to make money and market all these crazy products? Just an average woman that lost weight with real food?

Thank you Texas and Butternut.
My husband and I are really good at supporting each other in eating well and eating really un-well! Right now we've been on the un-well part of that. My being new to cake decorating and practicing A LOT! certainly hasn't been helping. lol
I was just telling Jason that I used to get up every morning at 4am to exercise and never felt tired. Since having my son, I can barely drag myself out of bed at 6:30! I work a part-time job on the weekends--33 hours in 3 days that I have to be up at 2am for. That really screws me up. A lot of it has to do with motivation---and my uncanny ability to find a million excuses not to do what needs to be done!
