I can't ever stay away long from this thread, so I'll definitely keep ya'll up to date.
Besides, if I'm this excited to tell everyone at 5 weeks...think about the future experiences I won't be able to keep to myself, lololol.
Hi everyone! After a long hiatus, I'm back. I took a break since I was pregnant, and had to stop. Unfortunately I miscarried yet again. This m/c (my 4th) really threw me for a loop, and I was having a VERY hard time emotionally. Weight loss was the farthest thing from my mind. Except of course that I knew the dr's would yet again blame my weight for everything.
Anyway I have slowly been working my way back onto the bandwagon. I'm really aiming for baby steps so that I'll stick with it.
I saw a site this week which I am finding really helpful- www.sparkpeople.com It is an online tracker of food plans and excercise. Thhere is lots of motivational stuff on the site. There is also a cakecentral team.
Check it out!
Leah... HUGS!
I'm back home from my trip, weight is up, and I plan to get back on track over the weekend. I was out of town from the 6th until the 17th. Had work and class yesterday and work and class tonight, so tomorrow night or Saturday will be the first chance I make it to the store to restock my friend on food, healthy food.
I'm down .4 from yesterday, so I'm not sure how much of my weight is actual gain from eating bad and how much of it is travel weight, salty resturant food, and aunt flows visit. I'll post my weight next week and go from there.
Where is everyone else? How are ya'll doing?
Leah - I am so very sorry. I can relate to your loss and yes, it is very emotional without a doubt. Again, I am so sorry that this has happened to you once again. I hope you are doing better now.
Tracy - looks like we left and came home about the same time. I hope you had a very nice trip. My trip was due to a medical situation with a family member. I'm glad to be home.
I worried that I had gained weight during this last trip. I tried to figure in my head about how many calories I was consuming but it's hard sometimes when you eat at places like a hospital cafeteria. You just don't know how things are really prepared. Anyway, looks like I did pretty good. I did lose a couple of pounds and am now about 9 pounds away from my goal weight of 125. I'm getting there, slowly but surely.
OK, so how is everyone else doing?????? You guys enjoying your summer? It's going by quickly isn't it? Before ya know it, it's gonna be fall and we'll be looking for some good low cal chili recipes... Yummm, that sounds good..... Home made veggie soups. Yep, think when I get caught up on all my work, I'll start looking through some recipes. Hope everyone is doing well!!
Thanks for the support.
I'm pretty much back to myself, and we've even started the room of doctors to figure out what to do (at first I said i would never try again). So far my weight hasn't been brought up by any of them.
I hope everyone enjoyed their vacation! Tracy, did you have fun at at ICES? Did you get your cakes done in time? Butternut I'm sorry for the circumstances of your trip, I hope that you at least had a nice time.
I'm trying to look at this as a lifestyle change instead of a diet. A diet means deprivation and short term (at least in my mind). I'm making sure to incorporate more fruits and veggies, and I'm working on exercising to get into shape. I definitely have more energy and I'm less reluctant to walk instead of waiting for a bus. My body has adjusted to less food and I'm not hungry all the time.
The weight loss is slow this way, which is hard for me. I think that the heat wave, high sodium intake and aunt flow are all contributing. I hope next week is better.
I did have a good trip, teh convention was great but was so glad to be back home. Momma cooked dinner last night so after class I went and snagged some. It was chicken and (white) rice so not the healthiest, but still better than eating out and it was comfort food something we know and liked. Tonight she is making roast so I'll stop by there again after class.
I'd say I'm heading to the store tomorrow after work, but before I go I need to clean out the fridge. I meant to do that before I left but time ran way from me, so that means pretty what is in there besides the basics has to go and I'll start over. Maybe tomorrow while at work I'm start thinking about what I want to eat next week.
Leah, you are totally right. I really try to avoid the word diet because to me it is a short term word and we are all looking towards a long term goal. We know that we don't just have to take the weight off, but also keep it off, which has been proven to many of us, is something that we will have to deal with for a long time. That's okay though, we can do it.
Margie, congrats on getting closer to your goal. I've to got re-lose and then some to even catch up with you. I can't give you a run for your money right now, but just know that I'm going to be working on closing that gap. ![]()
Thanks Tracy. I'm going to continue watching what I eat for the next couple of weeks. At that time, we are going on a gulp, gulp, cruise
. My hubby has always wanted to go on one but I've never been able to do it (fear of the water). I finally told myself that I need to suck it up and venture out because it just wasn't fair to keep him from doing what he's always wanted to do. So I really need to try to lose a little more because I know I'm not going to be as careful with what I eat while on the cruise. This is probably going to be the only cruise I'll ever go on so I'm not gonna just sit back and watch others eat all this super food I've heard so much about and not partake. I'll just have to buckle back down when we get back home. Hopefully though, we will be able to exercise while on board. The ship has a really great work out area. The treadmills are right by the window where you can gaze out at the ocean. I also want to take a brisk walk around the ship each morning. Hopefully the exercise will offset some of the extra calories that I'll be consuming. I'm still nervous about the cruise but I'm actually getting a bit excited about it now.
I came back from my trip in San Diego. I gained 4 pounds Eating too much carbs.
I'm back on my weight watchers points. I went back on treadmill Tuesday night and worked on pilates DVD tapes.
I hope everyone had fun in San Diego.
Stacie
Butternut-
enjoy your cruise and just walk more.
I lost of alot of weight and was fanatic about counting points on Weight Watchers. Be aware of your portions.
While on vacation last week, I ate the junk food but only limited it to one a day. Most of time I had oatmeal for breakfast, soup for lunch, fruit salad for snack and healty pizza or pasta for dinner. Coffee or glass of wine for last snack
bakecakes- what you did on vacation is my goal- to get to a point where I am basically eating healthy with good choices and then the occasion treat.
I tried a pilates 10 minute routine today for the first time. It was a bit depressing to see how hard it is for me, but my goal is to do 1 more rep of each exercise every time I do the video. Hopefully I'll get up to full control. I'm hoping that this will help improve my posture and upper back/shoulder issues.
Thanks Stacie. Yeah, I think walking a lot will be my answer to not gaining weight while on the cruise. I do want to try some dishes that I've never had before but I aim to have small portions. I've read rave reviews about their pizza. That could be my downfall but again, just gotta watch how much I eat. Don't want to deprive myself but sure don't want to over indulge either.
leah - I think you did great to do the 10 minutes of pilates. You've got to have a starting point and then build up from there (slowly). I need to work on my posture too. It feels so weird to sit up completely straight. I need to keep reminding myself to watch how I'm slouching. Hard habit to break. Keep up with the pilates. You'll be able to do the full routine before ya know it.
Margie, just remember that our weight is going to go up and down a little. So even if you go up a few pounds while on the trip, you just have to make adjustments and work a little harder when you get home.
I can't solely blame my weight gain on the trip. I actually can't tell you how much I gained from the trip because I wasn't weighing before I left, which tells you how things were going there. I do know I did alot of walking at Unverisal Studios and DisneyLand, not to mention at the convention from demo to demo and bathroom to demo and demo to vender room. I also ate some junk good, but while at the convention my breakfast and lunch meals were on the smaller side and the rest of the trip we didn't have three big full meals every day either.
I think vacations should be treated like any other time. Use your good eating habits, but don't deprieve yourself. If you want dessert then have it, but limit how much you have of it. If you exercise and walk then I would just enjoy the trip and while trying not to go hog wild, also remember that a little won't hurt you.
Today is 76 days on Weight Watchers which means I've been doing some good walking for the past 2 months. I was joking last week about an accomplishment that I was proud of ..... and it's ok to laugh!
Walking the dog (which is my exercise plan ..... three 10-minute walks a day enables both of us to "do our business"!) and he started to take off at a pretty good clip (chasing ducks again!). I started jogging with him and managed to jog TWELVE WHOLE STEPS before I reeled him in! ![]()
76 days ago, you would have had to call the paramedics to revive me aftere "jogging" 12 steps! ![]()
![]()
My daughter started to come on our walk with us and told me to "slow down, mom!" I told her if I slowed down any more, I be at a standstill! She finally gave up and waved at me in the sunset! ![]()
I am just amazed at what only three 10-minute walks a day has done for me in a little over 2 months. I never would have believed how just "a little a day" can make such a difference.
indydebi - that is awesome!! So glad that you are building up endurance and seeing progress. Doesn't it make ya feel good?

I'm actually motivated to try to walk home from work tonight. It's a 3-minute drive so technically it's "not far". But daughter will be on stand-by with cell phone and car keys "just in case"! ![]()
Leahk, I'm so sorry! I can't imagine what that must feel like, but it's one of my big fears right now. I'm trying so hard and praying so much that it'll turn out good, but I do that a little voice in the back of my head telling me that it could happen. Please know that you are in my prayers (if you are OK with that, of course). I hope you continue to take this time to regroup and find a healthier path to take, and that it leads you to a successful pregnancy in the future.
Glad to see Tracy and Margie back safe and sound from their trips! ![]()
And Debi, wow, 76 days on WW? Good job!! I know people who quit after 30 days. lol My MIL is doing WW, and lost a significant amount of weight, so much so, people asked her if she was ill (i.e., cancer)! Good job on your progress!!!
I'm still not worrying too much about my weight (although I don't want to gain more than 25lbs with this pregnancy-thing!), but I do know I need to get off my toockus and do some walking more often.
Since being pregnant, things that used to be easy (walking my average 3.2mph stride, going up a couple flights of stairs, etc.) are now very difficult! I need to get my endurance up a bit, so I'm at least not telling my DH to slow down on his walking, when it's usually him telling ME to slow down! I know after this trimester is over, it'll be easier.
I haven't been eating as healthy as I COULD be, but I'm eating foods that don't make me want to throw up, so there's that. I'm getting more milk, fruit and juice, though. Right now, I really want a wrap from a place near my office, and it's got chicken, rice and lettuce with mango mayo all in a whole wheat wrap! Doesn't sound too bad, huh? Well, with my previous diet, it was a big NO NO!
But oh well...I have put on some weight and I suspect some of it is pregnancy weight, and the rest is from eating so dramatically different from what I used to eat. Going from low-carb to higher-carb for baby has been interesting, lol.
Debi, I read about the dog walk on Facebook. Isn't it cool to be able to do things that you couldn't before? And it is amazing how much better we feel and easier it is to do things when we take off some weight.
Jade, I'd be more worried about getting the right nutrients over low calorie stuff myself. You can help from gaining too much by not going hog wild on everything, but remember both you and the baby need all the good stuff you can get right now.
I'd say relax and don't worry so much, but I know that is easier said than done. I'm slowly approaching 32 and even though I'm single, every month when my period comes around I have this thought in the back of my head that says "there went a chance" and I do have the fear of running out of chances before I do get to a place where I can have a child. I guess that is were my mom and grandma understand that I may do this on my own at some point, where as my brother and dad push the being married aspect first. Maybe women just understand the desire and fears better than men.
Enjoy being a mother to be, and try not to stress so much, okay? ![]()
Debi- way to go! Isn't it fun doing things that were harder before?
Jade- Thanks for your wishes. Please don't let my situation make you nervous- I have a bunch of documented issues that I'm dealing with. I hope you have a smooth and easy pregnancy. Were you specfically told you need to up your carbs? I know that with multiples moms are told to up their protein. So a hi protein diet may not necessarily be a bad thing- you should ask your doc.
Tracy- you still have lots of time before you start to get nervous. I'm rapidly approaching 35 and a doctor we recently consulted with said that I'm young and have plenty of time.
indydebi - that is awesome!! So glad that you are building up endurance and seeing progress. Doesn't it make ya feel good?

38 minutes to walk it and I survived! My legs felt like jello but I did it!
Way to go Debi!!! I knew you could do it. You should be very proud of yourself. I'm proud of ya!!!!!!
Awesome Debi!!!!
Tracy - It's not a constant worry, just something that strikes every now and then because this is my very first time being pregnant.
Leahk - I wasn't told specifically, but while doing low carb I had to cut down on the amount of milk, juice, fruit, etc. I was consuming because they do contain a LOT of carbs. I'm just adding all those things in to get the vitamins and such that I need. I haven't increased my bread consumption or anything, just those types of carbs. I gotta say, I LOVE milk and I missed it like crazy. I couldn't drink soy because I'm hypothyroid, and soy can interfere with thyroid production.
Keep going ladies!! I've actually been fortunate! I haven't put on any extra poundage in the past week, which is actually good for the first trimester. I want to try and make sure I don't gain too much in the next 8 months.
But...my pants sure don't fit much anymore, lol. My baggy pants are no longer baggy, but that's ok. Oh!! DH has put on some weight too. lolololol I told him my hormones are so strong, HE'S gaining pregnancy weight. *snort*
emrldsky, if you have not already, ask your MD if he will refer you to a dietitian so you can get a proper mealplan for your pregnancy. Now is not the time to lose nutrients your baby needs.

I'm not dieting anymore, that's basically what I've said. I've been very careful to get the things I need. I'm only posting here because I WAS dieting (low-carb) and wanted to update everyone that I'm no longer doing that due to my pregnancy. These are all topics I HAVE talked to my GP and OBGYN about before I got pregnant, to make sure I was making good choices. I've also made sure to read the proper books, etc.
Okey dokey! It wasn't my intention to offend...really! Sorry if it came out in any way that upset you.
As a nurse and a mom (and a diabetic), I hope you have an uneventful pregnancy and a healthy baby as the reward for all your hard work!![]()

It's all good.
I just didn't want anyone to think I was neglecting the nutrients I know I need, lol. That and being hormonal, I think I'm going to be sensitive to things for the next 8 months (DH has already made me cry 3 times over silly things). ![]()

I've been on WW for 4 weeks and have only lost 7.6 lbs, depressing since 4 and a half of those were the first week! ![]()
Okay, beginning tomorrow, I'm on the ID, (indydebi) walking plan...WW and ID -gotta be a winning combination
