Hey everyone. Just got home from being out of town and thought I'd check the thread. WELCOME to all that have just joined us. It's so great to see you on here and we look forward to chatting with you. It's great to see more friends joining in.
I did pretty well with the eating while I was away, I THINK.... It's hard to figure out calories when you don't really know how some things are prepared at the restaurants. I do know that I chose what I thought was the healthiest. Soooo, we shall see. I go back out of town next week so the challenge will be on once again. But hey, I'm always up for a good challenge.
Gonna run, got unpacking to take care of. Just wanted to check in and say hello and wish everyone a wonderful week-end.......
There is a great website which has lots of food nutritional info, including restaurants.
http://www.calorieking.com/
There is a Calorie King book, too! I bought a copy at WalMart. I carry it in my purse and it has been an amazing tool when going out to eat, and traveling. Here is a look at the book on Amazon.com

AWESOME, SugarFrosted!!! Thanks soooooooo much..........
Hey there. Did everyone have a nice week-end? How's everyone doing? I thought I would share with you something I came across the other day at Costco. It is called Popchips and they are soooooo good, low in cals and fat and just a great snack. It's the healthy alternative to chips. The Popchips we purchased were barbeque flavored. I just read on the package that they also come in different flavors. They really are awesome and you can eat quite a bit for only 120 calories. Anyone else seen these around?
I haven't see those yet. We don't have a Costco here but I'll have to look around for them.
I went ahead and weighed this morning. I'm up to 145.2 Tonight may or may not be mexican food night, so I figured I bettter go ahead and weigh.
I'm totally stressed and emotional (damn pms). My Dog ended up going to the Vet "ER" last night. I couple of months ago, he was having problems where he got stopped up and couldn't go to the bathroom, so we had to do an ER visit then and they got him cleaned out and said he may have problems again so just keep a watch on his bathroom habits.
Well last week I noticed that while he was able to go to the bathroom it wasn't normal, instead it was coming out in thin strips like it was moving around something. So I took him to the Vet Friday, he gave me some suggestions to try and also suggested getting him snipped. He believes there are some tumors that are along the way of the track that are causing him problems, and by cutting off the supply of testostorne the tumors are suppose to shrink. He isn't 100% sure if this is the problem, but it is the cheapest place to start to try to figure it out.
Last night when I got home from work to pack up for class, I realised that he had a puffed out spot on his rear end, much like he did when he couldn't go two months ago. I took him out and he tried twice to pass something and nothing came out. So I brought him to my dad and while I was heading to class (which had it's own issues to deal with) my dad took him to the vet. His anal gland is what was swollen on the back and he suggested we go ahead and do the snipping now rather than waiting until next week. So my dog spent the night in the vet last night. I'm going to call shortly to see how he is doing and when the snipping is to occur. My dog's has seizures, so while I know the snipping is a simple procedure they have to put him to sleep to do it. They are going to use the gas to do it, so he can wake him up faster if need be.
This is one of those times where I say, thank goodness I work for family and they probably wouldn't worry too much about me if I burst out crying in the middle of the day. Damn PMS!
Hope everyone had a way better Monday than I did. By 9 last night I had decided it already felt like I'd been through half the week already at least. ![]()
Hey Tracy... I'm so sorry to hear about your doggie. I so hope that this procedure takes care of his problem. I know your anxious to find out how he is doing. He's lucky to have such a caring owner!
I went ahead and weighed in today as well. Pretty good week considering that I've eaten so much hospital food without knowing the exact calorie content. I weighed in at 139.6. Down 43.6 pounds for the year. So, doing the happy dance that I've hit the 130's. We are headed back out of town and I will spend another week eating hospital food so I'm just hoping to at least maintain what I've lost during this time. Gonna try my best to choose the healthiest but sometimes that can be deceiving as we all know....
Alrighty, gotta get to packing. Hope everyone is doing well and has a wonderful week. I'll check back in when I get home......
I called, they said he is doing good, should be done with his procedure around 10-10:30 and I can pick him up after 2 this afternoon. If he is calm I'm going to bring him to work with me, and see if he will sleep by my desk. Momma agreed to babysit him tonight while I'm in class.
I'm so glad that he is doing well. Hopefully the procedure will be a complete success.
I just found out that most Target stores also carry the Popchips. They have lots of different flavors. I'll try my Target store when we get back.
Haven't been on here in AGES, but just wanted to say I found the greatest work out ever! Go to disney and go to the Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, Holy Land experience, Epcot, Sea world, and a place called Gatorland! LOL
We left the house each morning at about 8:30 am and went to one park each day until dinner time (packed sandwiches for lunch), ate dinner, swam for 2 hrs, put the kids to bed and headed BACK to the same park we were at that morning and walked around until about 11pm before coming home and going to bed.
I did this last week (Sat-Sat) and lost 12 more pounds!! yahoo! I wasn't even really watching what I was eating, although most of the time it was too hot to even feel hungry, I just knew it was "time to eat" and that I probably should eat.
Gotta love Florida!
Only downside is my bank account got REALLY thin too....we have 4 kids and that was no cheap trip let me tell ya!
KHalstead - So nice to see ya on here again. I was wondering where you had been. AWESOME, AWESOME, AWESOME!!!! WOWIE!!!! When you lose weight, you really lose weight.
So glad you had such a wonderful time at Disneyland and to boot, look at all the weight you lost. OK, planning a trip there next month. ![]()
thanks, I noticed the seatbelt on the plain had MUCH MORE excess belt than when we flew down and thought......."maybe this plane has bigger belts?" but sure enough I weighed myself when I got home Saturday and was 9 pounds lighter and then today I'm 12 lbs. lighter than the day we left! Must have jumpstarted my metabolism or something?
I'm going to look for those Popchips, thanks for that tip butternut, and the calorieking link, SugarFrosted!
So glad your pup is doing better TexasSugar.
WAY TO GO, Tina!! Sure wish I could try that workout program!!
Wednesday is my weigh-in day...I don't know if I'm looking forward to tomorrow it or dreading it. ![]()
Thanks Ladies. Riley is currently curled up under my desk and is soon going to visit grandma while I go teach. His snipping went well, no problems there. The good news is that he didn't see any tumors. Which means the bad news is that it is another issue.
He has a pocket or a bulging in his large intestine that is allowing his poop to collect and he isn't able to pass it. We are going to try to manage it with a high fiber diet, and keeping his stool on the soft side. If it keeps buidling up in then we will have to figure out where to go from there. They can do surgery to fix it, but it isn't a cheap surgery, so we shall have to see what happens if it comes to that.
Congrats on the loses ladies. Margie, you have passed me, I guess I need to get back in gear so I can give you a run for your money.
Hey everyone... I just got back from out of town and expected to have to catch up on the thread but it looks like it's been pretty quiet. How is everyone doing?????
Lets just say that I started my period last week, was an emotional basket case over the weekend and my emotions are just not getting closer to an even kilter, so thinking about losing weight was so not on my list of things to do.
And of course the free chocolate I got Friday and the Mac and Cheese I had last night didn't help anything either.
I so understand about the hormone thing. What a pain in the butt it is. I get really hungry sometimes and no matter what I eat, it just will not fill me up. It's those times that I have no expectations of losing weight but just hope I don't gain. I hope you are feeling better soon.
I didn't get much exercise in all of this past week. The hotel we stayed in did not have a work out room. I would have loved to have gotten up early and gone there prior to going to the hospital (family member had heart surgery). I think I did pretty well on eating though. The heart institute has what they call the "healthy heart cafe" and everything has the nutritional value on the labels. So, it wasn't too difficult to keep track of the calories, etc. We are headed back out of town in a day or two so once again I won't be on the thread very often. I miss chatting with everyone. By the way, Tracy, how is your little puppy dog doing? I so hope he is better now.
Over the weekend he started having trouble going to the bathroom again. Which lead to me stressing out over it, and pretty much sitting there Saturday morning bawling because I knew it would come down to a decission soon. By Sunday he was only able to go a tiny bit even though he had tried to go numorous times. I had decided I would take him Monday to the vet. Monday morning we went down there, and they told me the vet was out and to come back at 2. So my mom kept him for me. I hadn't fed thim that morning, and when momma tried the wouldn't eat and later he started throwing up.
The vet told me pretty much what I already knew. I had three options. One was to daily 'clean him out' so that the poop wasn't staying in the pocket and leading to him not being able to go. Put him through an expensive surgery that could lead to other complications. Or know that it wasn't fair to keep having him go through the physical pain he must have been feeling when he couldn't go to the the bathroom and it just kept getting built up to where he couldn't even digest anything any more.
I had to consider his health not just now but in the future. So in the end I made the hardest decission I have ever had to made, and decided I couldn't let him keep going through this cycle, this time being less than a week before he was blocked, and had to let him go. He was put to sleep Monday afternoon, and buried in my parents backyard.
In my head I know it was the right choice, my heart, well it still needs to catch up.
Oh Tracy, I am so very, very sorry. I know how difficult this is even when you know in your heart that it is the best thing to do. If he could, I think he would thank you for caring so much about him by not allowing him to suffer. It is a very unselfish act. I know it hurts though and I'm so sorry.
Thank you Margie. I was told by someone Monday night that the right decission is not always the easiest one. That is very true.
awww, I am so sorry for your loss....been there, hurts so much, but it is the kindest thing in the end.
Oh, TexasSugar, so sad for you...hope you are doing okay. ![]()
Yeah, I'm doing okay. I miss him when I come home at night and he isn't standing there waiting for me. My cat seems to be a little more loving toward me this week. I think he is trying to comfort me.
Down 4.2# my first week on WW, then 1.2 the second week.
I'm really happy with the WW plan - real life, enough food, balanced, change your eating style, etc, etc.
I was so enjoying Fiber One cereal UNTIL I discovered it contains Aspartame. ![]()
Good luck to you all this next week, and hope your weekend is a fun one.
iamcakin, that is a great first week! What do you think was the big impact? I believe mine was switching from regular soda to Coke Zero. With school and work, I was slugging down about 6 cans a day and man, that adds up! ![]()

lo
Great job iamcakin. Congrats on the loss! Wow, never realized that the Fiber one cereal contained Aspartame. I would have never guessed that.
Thanks, Girls!
I really don't know, other than I started eating breakfast, and adding lots of fruits/veggies. Debi, I've never really drank much Coke, (and you know down here we call every soft-drink "Coke"), maybe one every four or five months.
Yep, Aspartame - who woulda thunk it?? I can really tell when I've eaten it, it makes it so I can't put two thoughts together, AND I say weird things...very strange.
Two of my kids moved this past week, so I've been unable to eat as well, sure hope it's more than a pound again this next week!
The one thing that ticks me off about weight watchers is ther are points for fruit. I mean, ,whoever got fat eating watermelon and grapes for cryin' out loud! ![]()
TexasSugar...I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. A friend of mine had to make a similar decision last week as well with her cat (the cat had cancer).
Congrats to those who have lost and to those who are struggling, keep your chin up!
Once again, ladies, I have found that a personal issue will be leading to me focusing elsewhere than weight loss.
In fact, I'm going to be focused on gaining weight! I'm sure you're all wondering why I'm happy about that. ![]()
My husband and I are expecting! ![]()
![]()
It's still early yet, but we're very happy and excited. This was planned, although I wasn't certain that I would be able to get pregnant so quickly. ![]()
Anyway, keep doing what you all are doing! I'm gonna go have some tea.
emrldsky, congrats!!!! I want to be on the baby shower invite list!!!
emrldsky, congrats!!!! I want to be on the baby shower invite list!!!
Of course!!!
I'll be sure to let the planner know, when I know who the planner is, lolol. I'm sure it'll be several months away. ![]()
Oh man, I should start planning my own shower cake....*snort*
