VERY interesting thread! It's amazing what a diverse group of cakers we are!
I work for a major AZ university in athletic financial aid, and have worked in collegiate atheltics, on campus and at the conference level, for 12 years. I have a MA in higher education. I have a 2.5 year old daughter and mostly bake for friends and dh's co-workers. Just waiting for the right time to do the cake thing full time!
I am a School Psychologist working in a public school system with special needs children. Sometimes I think that I'm ready to do something else, but I'm so very spoiled with the school hours and holidays and summers off that I'm not sure I an go anywhere else where I can leave at 3pm every day. It's wonderful considering that I have two boys ages 9 and 6.
I work in a bakery that specializes in custom cakes.
I have ran a daycare from my home for 11 years.I love what I do but I think that mommawrobin has my dream job...

I've only had your "dream job" since December. It was the best Christmas present that I got last year.
I worked in a grocery store bakery before that and I was thrilled to have found this job. ![]()

I was a merchandiser but left that after a few years to concentrate on school and my kids' band stuff. I worked as a "sales assistant" (I called people. A lot of people.) last Fall. It was a temporary job that I left in December on a Monday morning when all I wanted to do was cry instead of go to work. Now I'm concentrating on school and cake. After working for a large company last Fall, I think I'm scarred for life and am not sure if I'll ever be able to work for someone else again.
My ârealâ job is a rancher. We have 80 acres and raise horses (TWH), Toy poodles, Imperial Shih-Tzus and Shih-Poos. My DH had to change jobs last year, and he is working 100 miles away in OK & is only home on weekends. Therefore; I do most everything on the ranch myself.
I'm a project manager for a law firm. That's probably the easiest way to explain it, but I basically work with databases all day long.
I am a wife (9 yrs in July) & a mother (7 yr old daughter & 5.5 yr old twin boys), an unemployed medical assistant and a full-time physician assistant student.
I started baking to save money on my kids b-day cakes. I didn't have any extra $ for my daughters 5th b-day & she wanted a castle cake. So, I went out and bought a box cake & strawberry icing and started that way. That same week, I stumbled across this website and been addicted since. I've improved significantly and all without taking a class (I REALLY WANT TO take the Wilton classes--All of them).
I bake on special occasions/holiday's, when my kiddos crave something sweet, and/or whenever my hubby needs cakes/cupcakes for monthly potlucks at his job. I can bake pretty much anytime of the week , but I prefer to bake on the weekend.
I'm a stay at home mom, my daughter is 2. I'm engaged, have been for 3 years now... one day we will get married.. no rush.. ha ha but I started "caking" when my daughter turned 1, had a small party of 8, and didnt want to buy a Publix cake, so I made caterpillar cupcake and have been hooked since...
I am a student and have a part time clerical job. I really want to work in a bakery in the next 3ish months.
I'm a corporate accountant by day - bean counter - and a baker by night. In between I have a daugher who is nearly 3 and was my inspiration for getting into cake decorating.
I am an RN currently working as a workers' compensation case manager. Oh yes, I can see some of you shuddering at the mention of workers' comp (LOL) - does it help to say I spent 15 years working ICU's and 7 years as an active duty navy nurse? The few cake orders I get - the money goes to my charity.
i am a part time baker, and a full time mom to my son who is 20 months. I'm expecting my second child (boy/girl?) this september and will celebrate 3 years of marriage in august! Someday I hope to run a breakfast/lunch cafe sort of thing doing some bakery style catering, such as wedding cakes!
