Right now I'm a stay at home mom to my 3 kiddos... a 5 year old and twin 1 year olds, all girls. My hubby and I own a small business so I do some clerical work for that from time to time but SAHM'ing is my main gig. I just picked up this caking thing a few months ago and am absolutely LOVING it and hope someday to actually do something with it for a living.
I just finished reading ALL of the responses!
VERY cool!
I have a 6 year old son, 3 year old daughter, and a 9 month old baby.... they're all my sweet angels!!!!
I'm a respiratory therapist, which I enjoy....most days.
Started cake decorating a few years ago so I could make my daughter's first birthday cake. Got hooked instantly and taught Wilton classes for a while until I just had too much on my plate.
Love the artistic part of cakes...but I really hate the baking part.
Dreaming of having more time to make cakes.

I am currently working in the accounting department of a law firm. Finished my Bachelors Degree in Legal Studies last year, so am hoping to work as a Paralegal for a law firm when we move to Illinois here in a couple months! Just hoping someone will hire me!
For me, baking is fun. I like to make something that tastes good as well as looks good. I share with DH's office and my office. DH's commander told me I was only allowed to bake once a month, because I was impacting the physical fitness standards... LOL!
i don't do anything interesting.... i work at a bakery as a cake decorator.... who would expect that.... lol

i am currently working part time at the mark twain house and museum. i was a sahm for 3+ years. previous to my twins being born, i worked as a graphic designer, web designer and writer.
We moved about 5 years ago and I didn't go back to work after the move so I guess I'm retired for now. I started cake decorating about a year ago. For not working outside the home it sure seems like I don't have that much free time! One of our dogs is a therapy dog so he and I visit the local hospital twice a month to see the kids, and we also do classroom presentations to elementary schools on how kids can be safe around dogs and how they can be responsible pet owners, etc. We also show our other dog so we're off on dog shows periodically.
I used to manage an executive suite for several years in a couple different cities, then decided to leave the industry and worked part-time for our home-based salsa company and nannied 3 days a week.
What a cool thread to start, hammer1 ! ![]()
I was the owner of a small swimming pool repair company and then got side swiped by an old man talking on his cell phone, who ran a red light.
Both of my arms were broken and one of my wrists.
As part of physical therapy, I had to play with clay and started making little bears and jewelry and things along those lines.
Eventually someone turned me on to Ace of Cakes, where I realized that there was fondant- pretty much edible clay. So I combined my two loves- eating and making figurines. ![]()
I had a local cakery call me about 5 months ago after seeing me in one of the magazines after winning in Austin and I have been working with them, part time, since then.
Funny how things can happen and completely change your world. I never made a cake in my life until September of 2007.

Yes, that's Petey, the mondo-Cairn. He weighs in at 32 pounds (big-boned, his Daddy says). We just adopted 2-year-old Lizzie, another Cairn, who is half his weight - she's his personal trainer! They are precious, but you are so right -- stubborn as anything I've ever seen! And playing ball is their favorite thing, next to eating. Lizzie likes to eat my nasturtiums.
I'm a legal admin for the Child Protective Services division of the Attorney General's office. I take care of a legal team which represents CPS case managers on the Superior Court level dealing with dependencies, guardianships, and severances.
It's a hard, demanding job and I love it! ![]()

I'm a Project Coordinator for a technical compliance company. They test all sorts of equipment before it gets sold to the public to make sure it's safe.
I'm a stay at home mommy of a 4 year old boy and a 2 year old girl (3, in March!). I love my job ![]()
I am also a SAHM to a 2 year old boy. I babysit a bit and am President of my MOMS Club chapter, which keeps me very busy b/c I plan a lot of service projects for our community. Boy how my life has changed! I bake, watch kids, and am in a Moms Club; I sound too goody-goody. In reality, I have a wicked sense of humor and and am not always the best role model.
Right before I stopped working I was an elem. school administrator. I also taught 7th grade social studies. Oh yeah, and I also taught study skills classes for freshmen at my local Community College. I miss working, but I can't imagine not being with my son right now.
I was a SAHM for 18 years and when my oldest was a sr in high school my youngest needed braces (a huge expense) and I didnt want to add any more on top of what we already had to pay our middle daughter had alot of medical exspences due to having cancer at 10 we had no ins. She has now been in remission for almost 6 yrs!!!! So 3 years ago I got a job at my kids middle school in the cafeteria. Not a glamorous job but I get to have all the perks as a SAHM but still work cause I get all of the same vacations off as my kids and the whole summer.
I'm a newspaper page designer, copy editor and columnist. (Yeah, I know , a little bit of everything.) I'm the kind of person who tends to pick up a bit here and there to help out ... and next thing I know, it's become one of my job duties ...
Oh, well. I like the variety.
I'm a former reporter. It's not quite as interesting as it sounds (if I never attend a school board meeting again, it will be too soon), but I have interviewed a few neat people. I kinda miss that part.
Cakes are a hobby right now. Some day, who knows? I'd like to be a SAHM.
sylly..i haven't done too much 3-d fondant...lots of flat stuff. what would you suggest for a first try, not a bear. ..did that one. i teach culinary arts and we made the bear last year...kind of would like to do something creative with the kids to put on cupcakes or smallcakes...any suggestions. your stuff is fabulous...not sure i understand all the techiniques on the cake topper with the baker and the cake but it is grand. thanks for any suggestions.

Cakes by Jen,
I'm waving my hands at you from across the bakery counter!
I too work in a local bakery as a cake decorator. Have been there for 12 years now. Wow time flies by fast. I started when my youngest went into 2nd grade. Now he is in college. I have started my own business this year now that my kids are grown. Although I do care for my 3 year old grandson every day from 2 to bed time. (my little apprentice)whew , Some days I am so tired.! But I can't stop the cake makin. i love it too much. Carrot cupcakes are comingout of the oven as we speak.
My "real" job is a cake decorator! I work at a local shop 3 days a week-even though it's a little less right now because we're slow. I'm also a Designer for Home & Garden Party. I just started doind that a few months ago with the hopes that I would hold enough parties to add a little extra income, but it's been a bit slow as well. (anyone in the Springfield, MO area want to have a party and earn some FREE stuff?) But I get to have the extra time to attend school functions for my 16 y.o. daughter and 11 y.o. son. Plus my son is heavy into baseball, so there's always something going on there.
I used to work in an office for years, but my husband was deployed in 04 for a year, so I quit so I could be there for the kids more. Best thing I ever did!! I've helped out a friend of mine her brother's insurance office for a while and office work is so boring now! I love playing with cake and icing and getting paid for it!
I sell beer for a living.
I am a national account manager for Samuel Adams down here in Texas. I call on Costco, HEB, Kroger, 7-Eleven, ect.... at their corporate offices. Basically, I sell in large market distribution and programming.
I don't nearly have the time to do cakes like I would like, but one day I am sure...
its nice to bring back and old thread and catch up with all the new people...i have enjoyed this today...it is a snow day for me, no school here in central ohio today...looks like it may be one tomorrow too.....now what should i bake...oh shoot, i can't afford to eat any more cake....... ![]()
I work as a Fraud Analyst for bank. I work part-time at a clothing store and bake, too. I've really cut back on the cake orders because I just don't have the time. I usually bake on nights when I'm off and freeze the cakes. I try to replace the cakes as I use them. I'll decorate the night before the cake order, even if it means staying up late.
In my former life, I was a photojournalist (sports, news, feature, with 'wild art' being my favorite. This is where they say they need a 3 x 5 for the front page and we were approaching deadline. Ah, the adrenaline!). Studied graphic design in college as well. Got married, started moving around for DH's career and did what I needed to do to support that and all that goes along with his career (him gone 6 mos. at a time, me helping the younger wives get through it, etc) . Two kidlets later, am a SAHM with dreams of becoming a cookie decorator. My cameras are long since packed away, but at least I am using the graphic design minor when I design my cookies! ![]()

I will send you a few ideas that you might want to try for small figures in a pm after dinner
thank you for the compliments
Thanks so much Hammer1! That means a lot to me! ![]()
I do use RI, Antonia74's RI recipe to be exact. I love how easy it is to work with! It allows me to get a smooth finish for my flooding and it is perfect for detailing! Just the right recipe for me as I am a bit Type A with my cookies!
Seriously though, the recipe is great and I highly recommend it! ![]()
