Hope you feel better soon!

Bi-lo had ribeye on sale this week so last night we grilled steak and I made baked potatoes. mmmmmmmmmmm yum.

Hey Ladies,

Hope that everyone had a great day! Ohara...I feel your pain. My wisdom teeth weren't infected but they all were impacted and I had them removed back after my freshman year of college when I was 18 years old. My dentist put me to sleep and when I woke up...they were gone. My greedy behind was so hungry that I actually ate a hoagie the same night icon_lol.gificon_lol.gif I don't know what I am made of because I tend to heal fast icon_confused.gif . I hope that you have a good experience like I did. Your dinners sound great! I'm happy to hear that you all are doing well in you weight loss quests icon_smile.gif . You can do it!

AnxietyAttack, your dinners sound amazing, too! I wish I could eat a steak. My last dentist butchered my mouth and I am too afraid to have my molars fixed so I'll continue to stick with chicken, seafood, and the like until I get up enough nerve to go to the dentist.

Dinner for me tonight was Rattlesnake pasta.

Y'all have a great night!

Hi Ladies,

Welcome to the table, Kakabekabunny! I cheated....It was a frozen entree from Unos that I bought from BJ's icon_redface.gif . I had to stuff something in my mouth before I went to work last night icon_wink.gif . I'm sure it can be made, though. Its penne pasta with a spicy alfredo sauce, sour cream, jalepeno peppers, and loads of cheddar cheese. I know there is a book on the market that has some of the most popular recipes from some the top restaurant chains...I just have to find it thumbs_up.gif

Your dinner also sounds yummy! I love French Onion Soup!

Y'all have a great day icon_smile.gif

Welcome to the table kakabekabunny! What....you don't eat rattle snake? icon_surprised.gificon_lol.gif I actually have had rattle snake. It was ok...I wouldn't make a point of eating it and I sure wouldn't order it in pasta icon_wink.gif I was going to ask Lita what it was as well.

Thanks for the well wishes ladies. I think that I am healing well. My surrounding teeth are still really sore. I only took the pain medicine on Wednesday. I didn't take any yesterday and I put in a full day. I washed all the sheets, mopped all the down stairs floors and mowed the yard. Then I fixed dinner and took DD to track practice.

The sore teeth help to not want to snack all day! We are now half way through the 10 week weight loss challenge. My husband has lost 19lbs, my son has lost 17 and I have lost 10. I am happy with that! I am hoping that the second half goes as well!

Wednesday night I cooked steaks on the grill, garlic mushrooms, baked potatoes and carrots. (I could eat the baked potato and carrots)

Last night I made lasagna. I used ground chicken breast in place of ground beef and I replaced the lasagna noodles with slices of eggplant.
We all really enjoyed it...well not DD. It was yummy and I calculated all the calorie and fat of the ingredients. It turned out to be 275 calories and 12.5 grams of fat a serving. The pan made 8 servings. The guys also had a salad with theirs. I had low fat cottage cheese. We really felt like we had splurged and we really hadn't.

I hope all are well and have a blessed day!

Hey Ladies,

Hope that all is well with my Tablemates icon_smile.gif . I haven't had the opportunity to try real rattlesnake yet, but I am sure it is has an interesting flavor. Kakabekabunny, I work at Williams-Sonoma and I am a sales associate who also teaches some of their classes. I just started the teaching part and I absolutely LOVE it. The students are so supportive, involved, and they WANT to learn thumbs_up.gif . Its a great company with great people and a great ethic...so its easy to do my job. I think I might have found my niche....doing something with my passions...cooking, baking, and decorating. I am a very happy camper right now icon_biggrin.gif .

Ohara...YOU GO GIRL! I told you that you could do it icon_smile.gif . Congratulations on you and your family's weight loss! Your dinners sound creative, healthy, and very tasty. Even though I sometimes cheat and have an occasional burger, I have found that eating right can be fun and yummy....just like you have. I love the eggplant lasagna idea thumbs_up.gif Keep up the good work!

Dinnner for me was Subway's Veggie Delight...yup...on the run again.

Ohara,,,,,way to go girl. Congratulations on the weight loss. Myself,,,,,,,,,,,,,,I've lost 105 lbs over the past year and a half. It feels wonderful to go into a regulars size clothing store & be able to try something on AND IT'S TOO BIG!!! Keep up the good work.

Lita82, your job sounds interesting and fun. I am an RN working in the community (going into people's homes). I love being able to help the sick & elderly stay at home as opposed to having to stay in hospital or nursing home.

for supper tonight I had roasted garlic & balsamic chicken over angel hair pasta.

kakabekabunny Congratulations on your weight loss! I'm right there with you... I now weigh 140lbs LESS then I did 6 years ago! I have just been fighting the keep it off fight the last several years. I will battle my weight the rest of my life. I LOVE good food. I do like shopping much more than before. I would like to lose another 15lbs.
Your dinner sounds great.

Lita I was just thinking about taking a class here. The day just didn't work out for me. I think it's great that you love what you are doing. It makes me sad when people hate their jobs. So much of your life is spent there.

Tonight I used left overs. I stir fried peppers, onions, the two left over potatoes and the left over steak. It was good and easy.

Tomorrow we have Special Olympics. We have to leave the house at 8:15am. I made our healthy lunches and have them all ready to go. Tomorrow night we are going to a birthday party so it will be our "free day". My husband is happy, our friends are making chili 5 ways and he really enjoys it.

Have a great weekend!

Evening everyone,,,,,,DH & I made a quick trip down to Grand Marais, MN today and had dinner at the most WONDERFUL little bistro,,,The Crooked Spoon. All their food is homemade, from soup to bread & everything inbetween. I had a (humongous) bowl of tomato & fresh basil soup with asiago cheese and miniature lamb & spicy sausage sliders with a cucumber, balsamic & feta relish. & to top it off the coffee was out of this world!! Will have to make the 2 hour drive from Canada more often. yummmmmm

Hey Ladies,

Hope that everyone is having a great night! If you in the Northeast USA...I hope that you all are staying cool in this heat. Congrats on your weight loss, kakabekabunny! It feel great when you set out on a goal and reach it! Congrats to you, too, Ohara!

I hope that you and your family enjoyed the Special Olympics, Ohara.

Kakabekabunny...I was an RN in the past. I don't practice any more...that era in my life is over. Its bittersweet, because I enjoyed taking care of people but at the same time it could be sad and stressful. Its a wonderful profession that I'll always respect but its over. About my current position....I love it because I get to do what I love and share it with others to help them become better cooks and bakers. It also helps that I believe in the company and its product. I look forward to going to work everyday. I do agree with you, Ohara, that it is so important to like your job because you spend so much time there. I have had jobs that I've loathed and I would watch the clock the whole time...praying for the torture to be over icon_sad.gif .

Everyone's dinners sound YUMMY icon_smile.gif .

Dinner for me was salmon cakes, collard greens, candied yams, and veggie rice.

Monday was DH's B-day and I made French onion soup, a mushroom and leek souffle, beouf bourguignon ala minute, roasted potatoes, steamed purple cauliflower with compound butter, fresh baguettes and vanilla chiffon cupcakes with chocolate SMBC. (I don't recommend the purple cauliflower. It's pretty, but the taste is really overpowering.) Needless to say, I didn't cook the rest of the week. icon_razz.gif

my my my. Haven't you all been busy.
Welcome to the table newbie table friends.
I'm back from Florida and sadly came home to 45 degree weather. BLAH!
We loved Disney World and Sea World. It was hot and humid but oh so worth it and so much fun. I didn't want to come back home.
Ohara-- hope your feeling better and congrats to you and your family on the weight loss.
Mighty--congrats on being done with school. Are you totally done or do you go back in the fall?

I ate more than I care to admit. We were on the Disney dining plan so I made sure I ate my monies worth every meal. I for sure need to hit the gym tomorrow. I walked a lot though if that off sets anything. I doubt it considering the calories I ate, but it's a fleeting thought.

I don't want to go back to work. I had 4 messages from them on my machine saying they missed me and what a work load I have when I come back. WHINE! Don't want to go.

The good news is that I worked and saved up enough where I was able to pay for almost our whole vacation. There was about $700 I wasn't able to cover so DH paid that instead. Otherwise the main bulk was all by me so I'm pretty happy right now. My orig. plans changed thanks to my uncle. He works for Disney and told me of a great deal he foundl. I changed our plans to stay off site to on site then added the dinning plan. It was the best vacation ever. I never wanted to come back home. My kids and husband all had a fabulous time too.

He has been working up in Nunivut and at the Ring of Fire, & I didn't know he was coming home. What a great Mother's Day present!!!

Congratulations MightyDragon on finishing culinary school. If I cooked food like you described, I would weigh a TON.

mKolmar, your holiday sounds fantastic! I've wanted to go to Disney since I was a little girl. Maybe I'll get to take my Granddaughter. lol

Had a wonderful brunch...too much food to list, then DH took me out to dinner and had red pepper & proccuito(sp?) chicken with baked potato and sauted veggies.

kakabakabunny If I cooked like that all the time, I would be as big as the side of a barn. Fortunately, DH only has one birthday a year. icon_biggrin.gif

Lita, it is so nice to be back at the table.

SNOW! GAH, I'm the opposite of you kakabakabunny. I don't like snow. The most I can handle is 2 weeks of it and then I want it gone. Living in MI, I see plenty of it as winter likes to hang on here too long.

Tonight was chicken-feta-spinach brats, corn on the cob, artisan bread and strawberries. I forgot to make the green beans..oops.

This may sound awful, but I'm already trying to plan my next trip to Disney World. I love Florida!

Ohara -- I never had to get that GAC card for my son that I told you about. The longest we waited was at most 20 minutes for a ride or show. We usually only had a 5 minute wait. It was the perfect week to be in WDW.

Ren715 Welcome to the table. How thoughtful of your husband! My first thought was no fair posting pictures...while we are dieting my DH is calling food photos....food porn! Ha!!

kakabekabunny you can have my share of the snow! I live in Ohio and we get more than enough. Like mkolmar I'm good for the first snow or two, then I'm done and just have to suffer for the next 3 or 4 months. Good luck with those last few pounds. Why do they have to be so stubborn?!

Lita your dinners sound good. Sounds like your working lots. Are you baking for orders? or just because?

Mightydragon congratulations on finishing school. I hope life has slowed down just a little bit for you. Sorry about that snow. We had 80 degrees last week and we had heavy frost twice this week. It has also rained all week!

Jumping in on the thread today. Ive read some of it but never commented. Ren715, I just swooned over your hubbys culinary artistry! What a wonderful man he must be!

I, myself, am actually here for some help.I hate to cook! Baking a cake, no problem. Im always happy to make something that will look beautiful and/or taste delightfully delicious. But cooking dinner and meal planning is my weakness. I work full time and just have no energy to cook when I get home. And if I am working on a cake, forget it. One of my problems is indecision and procrastination, and nutrition/fat content obsession. I look at recipes and find reasons not to make it, too much fat, or too difficult/time consuming, or ingredients that I dont want to buy. Hubby has different tastes and is totally low maintenance. He usually fends for himself. But I have a soon to be teenage daughter that needs healthy meals on a regular basis. Some days I have energy to cook and we (DD and I) have a home cooked meal, but other days it is frozen meals or frozen baked chicken breasts with veggies and rice or potatoes, ya know, super easy stuff. DD is very adept at using the microwave. She frequently makes her own dinner. I would say I rarely prepare a home cooked meal more than twice a week. But we dont eat much fast food, either. I am pretty health conscious and so is DD. I am glad the schools are at least teaching nutrition, even if they dont necessarily serve it. One thing I do cook is veggiessteaming broccoli doesnt take much effort, LOL! Lucky for me DD likes broccoli! Her favorite dinner is Stouffers chicken parmesan with a side of broccoli. Anyway, I know Im rambling here, but I would love it if someone could help me with meal planning (and give me a nice kick in the butt to follow through with it).

Hey Ladies,

Hope that all is well with my Tablemates icon_smile.gif . Welcome, MissTex. I, by no means, am a dietician or meal planner but this is what works for me. I mostly cook off the cuff but when I do use recipes, I try to plan my meals and shop for the week when I can. This may help in planning healthy meals for your family. There are tons of cook books on the market where the meal can be prepared 30 minutes or less. I know that Williams-Sonoma has some and so does Pampered Chef. You might also be able to do your prep work for several recipes at the same time and put the meal in the frige and cook it later that week. That might also help.

I am like you in that when I am making a baking or caking I eat something super fast but I don't have a family....its just me and my mom and she usually prepares her own food.

These are just suggestions. Hope they help.

Welcome to the table MissyTex. I get a lot of inspiration from my tablemates here and I am certain you will too. icon_biggrin.gif
Personally, I love to cook, but we don't usually get home from work until 7-7:30 PM, so cooking after work isn't something that happens in my house generally. I cook on the weekends and freeze part of the meals. That way, I don't actually have to cook on work nights, but we still get a good meal. One of my favorite cookbooks is "365 ways to cook vegetables". It's a vegetarian cookbook, but very simple straight forward recipes and I think I have only made one that was just "okay".

Tonight was vegetable stir fry, rice and Chinese dumplings with peanut sauce. Good night everyone. icon_smile.gif

MissyTex Welcome to the table. My least favorite part of cooking is coming up with the menus. The original thread that started years ago was just for the purpose of helping others plan meals. The dreaded What's for dinner question.
Several years ago when the kids were little I was having such a difficult time with menus. One night while we were all at the table I wrote down all the foods that I cook on a list. They were all really helpful with this, each one making sure that their favorites made the list. I would then use the list to make monthly menus. First I would start out with activities already written in, then I would pick easier meals for nights the kids had stuff scheduled. Sounds like a lot of work. It wasn't really. The other thing is once you do it a time or two, you won't have to do it again, as you can just start repeating them with some basic modifications.
It also made grocery shopping easier....knowing what I was going to cook.
I often make a double batch of casseroles, grilled meats and sauces. Makes busy nights easy to just reheat something.

mightydragon I think I will look for that cookbook. I am always looking for vegetable recipes. I lived in Colorado as a teenager. Even then I loved the summers...just not the winter very much.

Lita what a great thing you do, donating baked goods to such good causes.

mkolmar I love those temps. How are you adjusting to being back to the real world? When are the kids out for the summer?

Dinner last night was salad, sliced steak (chicken for me) and southwestern black bean and rice salad.

No plan for dinner yet tonight. Today is grocery day...and marked down veggie day at a local market. Dinner often depends on what's marked down on Tuesday. Last week that's why we had stuffed red peppers...they were a great price!

I hope you all have a great day!

TaDaaaa! Last night I cooked parmesan chicken tenders, linguini and broccoli, with enough left overs for dinner tonight or tomorrow. I usually cook on Mondays and maybe Tuesdays, but by Wednesday it's leftovers or hunt something down in the freezer. Mightydragon, yes, I am hoping this thread will help me with ideas. I've already perused several pages. And Ohara, I sort of have a list of meals, but it's not very long. I need to add to it. I have decided to make it a little project for DD and me. I've asked her to search for meals that she would like. It's funny, I search the internet for ideas when I have quite a few cook books in my kitchen. Maybe DD and I will crack 'em open tonight.
