Hi Leily, Congrats on the new baby girl and all the new exciting things that have happened. Welcome back to the table.

Ohara- my kids start school Sept. 8. MI changed it last year where the whole state starts after labor day. Seems odd since I'm so close to OH and everyone there is starting 2 weeks ahead of us. I still like my job a lot. My kids hate it though which makes me 2nd guess it. I was just offered a job teaching culinary part time for free schooling and said yes. Now I have to call and say no. I just don't feel right about it and think my kids need me more than I need more schooling.

Tonight we took the kids to the drive-in. They loved it. It was a perfect night to go too because it was really warm with a slight breeze.

Dinner tonight was breakfast food. I made cheese omelets for the kids and a green and purple bell pepper with onion and mushrooms with cheese for DH. We also had over medium eggs with toast, yogurt with blueberries and oatmeal.
I made puff pastry dough to make apple turnovers but didn't get to use it. I'll make them tomorrow and tell you all how they turned out.

leily it is so good to hear from you! Congratulations on the new baby! A lot has happened in your life in the last 8 months. I hope you get a chance to check in more often. It's good to have you back at the dinner table.

alanaj is your 11 month old your only child? Thank you we did have a good week away. We don't have dessert on a regular basis. I usually only make dessert when we are having company or if it's a birthday.

mkolmar....how cool that you still have a drive-in. The one close to our home closed a couple of years ago. We used to love going. There is one on the other side of the city, but it would take us to long to drive home after the movie. I'm sorry that you will have to turn down the teaching job. I know how much you would enjoy that and then getting more education in exchange. Hopefully the opportunity will come along again at a better time.

Dinner....

Last night was DH's birthday and he always wants Salmon patties with cheese sauce and french fries. I also made broccoli to go with it. Not his favorite but he just put cheese sauce on it and it was ok. No birthday cake....he wanted creme brulee...and since you only use the yokes in the creme brulee, he insists not to waste the egg whites so I needed to make an angle food cake as well. We laugh that he has figured out how to get 2 desserts for his birthday.
I had a salad....I don't eat salmon patties. Thankfully all my kids love them like he does.

Monday night was hamburgers, hot dogs, macaroni salad, green fluffy salad and corn on the cob.

I don't know what we will have tonight yet. I know that they will have dessert, as we have quite a bit left over! icon_wink.gif

I hope others get a chance to check in soon.

Last night was roast turkey breast, fresh seasoned green beans, toasted artisan bread with olive oil, corn on the cob.
Tonight was leftovers.

Ohara- your DH is a smart man knowing how to angle it to get 2 desserts for his birthday.

Have a great day everyone!

Ohara--yep, my 11 month old is my first. Planning a big pirate party for his bday next month. Everyone's expecting a cool cake icon_smile.gif so I've already got it all planned out. My parents, brother, and sister are all coming up for it so it'll be great. It's my mom's bday too so I'll have to make another fun cake...darn. icon_wink.gif

That is hilarious that your hubby knows how to work the system like that. I could totally see mine doing the same. He always waits until I'm at my hair pulling busiest to ask "did you make any extra cupcakes for me?" Seriously?!

This past week was funny for dinners, we were at a friend's cottage on a lake for the weekend and one of the group was a chef. Love that.

We had stuffed pork tenderloin with some yummy local corn, potatoes, and a spinach salad.
Sun. we were recovering so just had some pasta leftovers.
Mon. was pork tenderloin again because I already had it thawed. I did a Grand Marnier glaze on it with maple carrots and some local corn again.
Last night was leftovers and tonight will probably be pizza....anything but pork! icon_biggrin.gif

Congrats on your baby girl Leily! Hope you can check in and let us know how she's growing!

Have a great Wednesday everyone.

Hi everyone!
We went camping last weekend so we had a whole different slew of food items that everyone brought and cooked. My oldest daughter was eaten up by mosquitos. I used Cutter bug spray even and they still attacked everyone but especially her. She has 15 bites on just one hand. I lost count after 50 bites, she has more that that. She's allergic also so she was swollen everywhere. It's been a few days and the swelling is down but she has red splotches and scabs everywhere, even on her eyelids. My other kids are bitten up also but not as bad as her.
Other than that it was a pretty good time camping. We went swimming in the lake, fishing, tubing and the kids also played on the playground.
My youngest daughters birthday was yesterday. We had spaghetti with garlic bread since that's what she wanted for her b-day meal. My oldest daughter made her a b-day cake (I wasn't allowed to help at all) It was a boxed mix chocolate cake and she also used canned icing.

Tonight was turkey-ham steak, cheese omelets, scrambled eggs, biscuits with butter plus honey, bagels, blueberries, bananas and orange slices.

Hi Janine, hope everything settles down for you soon.

Tonight was savory roast turkey loin, sauteed green pepper with onion, feta cheese puffs, roasted seasoned potatoes, carrot-pineapple-raisin slaw, cucumber-tomato-mozzarella with basil and Italian dressing/balsamic salad and toasted buttered baguette.

Hope you are all doing well. I'll be heading outside soon to try to soak some more of the slightly warmer weather. The colder weather will be presenting itself very soon, evident by the cool temps here.

Have a great night.

Janine so glad to see you back at the table. I have missed you!
I hope life slows down a bit for you soon. Congratulations on your winning cake. You should be proud!

Mkolmar I realized that you never write turkey...you write savory roast turkey loin. It must be all the schooling you have done. I must say I am envious that your food always sounds so much better...I may have to try it out. icon_wink.gif I have also been soaking up what little summer sun we have left. Fall is definately in the air here!

Kay so glad that you checked in! I have been worried about you. I even went to another cake site to see if you had been around there. Not stalking just worried! Glad to hear that Mike is working. I hope his health improves. Happy belated birthday! I hope it was a good one.

alanaj have you had the pirate party yet or is it upcoming? A special birthday when they turn 1. Enjoy.

A quick update from here...

My DH is still unemployed. We wait patiently(most of the time) to see what God has in store for us.

DD started back to school...she is 7th grade this year. Budget cuts have changed her day as there is no aid to go to classes with her. I think that the school has violated her IEP (individualized education plan....she has Aspergers). I know that her teacher is working the kinks and doing what she can so we are trying to see what is going to happen before making an issue with the school....but we will if need be.

The babies are growing quickly....the oldest one will be 2 at the end of this month. He has 2 down...naughty and funny at the same time.
The baby turned 6 months. He got his first 2 teeth just this past Monday. Both bottom ones came in the same day. He is starting to push himself up on all fours. He is still such a good baby. Sweet and easy going.

We had such an amazing blessing in our extended family a couple of weeks ago. My nephew and his family were selected to be featured on ABC's Extreme Home Makeover. So we took off to drive to Illinois (where our family is from). We got to help with their new house and be there for move that bus day. It was such an awesome experience! I am so happy for he and his family. I can not wait for the show to air.

I have finally be somewhat successful with my dieting. I have lost 57lbs. Right now my goal is 13 more pounds. Not that I couldn't stand to lose a few more than that....just not the goal right now. I will be happy with 13 more.

We have eaten ...I will only go back so far.

Last night was chicken shish kabobs with grilled squash and zucchini and sweet corn on the cob.

Monday night was slow roasted pork loin cooked on the grill, garlic noodles, garden fresh green beans and juicy pears.

I hope all are well. I have missed you all...I look forward to us all being able to check in more often.

ha ha, your right Ohara. I never right just turkey because I make different kinds also like asian and such. I'm big on merindaids. Never thought about that till you posted it. icon_lol.gif I guess I'm more of a foodie than I thought I was

Tonight was salad with cheese pizza made on a baguette. My MIL made dinner for us.

I hope the Lord leads your DH to the best job ever Ohara. The school is violating your daughters IEP. If something doesn't change soon you need to talk to them. My son has an aid also and she helps everything run so much soother for him.

Janine- Hope your DH's business picks up soon.

Everyone else have a wonderful night. Sorry for the horrid spelling, I'm exhausted.

mkolmar....I hope you settle into a routine soon. It's tough starting school. We have been in a couple of weeks and seem to be getting the hang of the whole morning routine.

Dinner last night was oven baked pork chops, twice baked potatoes, carrots and biscuits.

Saturday we had take and bake pizza

Friday was grilled steaks with potatoes, sweet corn, green beans and cottage cheese.

I hope everyone is doing well...and gets a chance to check in soon.

Dinner tonight was bbq marinated chicken breast, yellow plus green green beans seasoned, honey glazed white-orange and purple carrots, whole grain flavored rice and tomato soup.

The kids decorated cupcakes and ate those for dessert.
Yesterday was cheese omelets, bacon, oatmeal, toast, biscuts and waffles.

The day before that was savory roast turkey with fresh fruit, veggies that I can't remember right now and rolls.

My DH and I are in a weird spot in our marriage right now. We are not arguing but we aren't getting along either. It's really odd. We are just avoiding each other and hardly talking. Any one else ever have this happen?

icon_redface.gificon_redface.gificon_redface.gif I am so ashamed it has been almost amonth since I last posted.. But if I don't get the emails I tend to forget. icon_redface.gif First off it has been a crazy month as usual.. I have been self teaching sort of. I hvae been doing lots os self development reading and listening to CD's to help me build my business.. So time has been tight as I have been rather focused. But I think of you and figure I didn't get a email so nothing new happened then go diggin when I have time. icon_redface.gif And find out I missed out..

First of Ohara I am thinkin of your hubby and KNOW he will find the right thing for him at the right time. And I know it is right around the corner.. And glad you got to help a family member with a new house.. I LOVE that show and wish I could help with one if I could.. I am so happy for the family.. I bet it was exciting and a AMAZING thing to do.. Let me know when it will air.. email me if you must.. if you don't have it I will get it to you ASAP.. Did you belly up to the bar to find me.. LOL I haven't been there much either..Like I said been studing alot and learning alot.. I am on facebook though and try to check in there more..And I hope all works out for DD soon.

Hey twin sometimes marriage is like that.. especially with kids and CRAZY scedules.. Right now Mike is back full time and no time off. workin everyday no weekends off.. So stressful but good money wise since we are playing catchup to the max.. But no time to talk and be together.. So sort of know that feelin... It is hard sometimes.. And since you have smaller kids that is even harder.. Hang in there and try as hard as you can to do some ALONE TIME if you can.. Maybe get over that hump.. Hope it all works out soon..

ok I wrote book.. and didn't tell what we ate LOL

I made homemade runza's, enchilada's, and cooked off a chicken to make casseroles with... and that is about all I can remeber for now LOL

Kay....yes, I did belly up to the bar looking for you! Girl it's a sad thing when I have to start searching the bar for you!! lol
The show will air on Oct 25th. It was so much fun to be there.
Glad that Mike is working and getting extra hours. I know that has to help!

mkolmar....how are the kids settling into school? Are things quieting down at all? Mine has so much homework each evening it seems like that's all she does.

The babies both had a doctors appointment. The soon to be 2yr old was fine. He has gained a couple of pounds since coming here. The now 7month old, is now 15lbs. That puts him in the 9% rank for weight. His height is a little higher. He's a little boy but developing fine. He is up on all fours rocking now. He learned to clap this week and thinks he's hot stuff. He is getting to the point though, when I leave the room he cries. I am never a big fan of this stage...but they all seem to go through it.

Dinner.....
Monday was chicken fajitas, refried beans and all the stuff that goes with it.
Tuesday we had creamy Italian chicken with fettucini, carrots and bread

Wednesday was leftover night

Thursday night I made pepper steak with onions over rice, with corn on the cob and pears.

I am burnt out on cooking....need something easy and good to spice it up around here....lol

Everyone must be busy.

Welcome back kellertur! Thanks for the hug and thinking of me. It means a lot.

Kay thanks for the kind words. Glad your back.

mkolmar how are things with you? How is work going?

I hope all are well... I know a lot of sickness around here. I looks like it could be a long winter, sickness wise. Let's hope not!

We had a birthday party (a little one) for our big baby(I have a special needs niece and that's what she calls the boys, big baby and little baby lol)...he turned 2 this past week. He loves cake! He is going to be so upset that there won't be any cake for after dinner tonight.

My dad came over for the weekend. He lives a couple of states over. I enjoyed my time with him, just not enough time together. I cooked and baked for him. He is a good subject...he enjoys it so much! He would let me bake bread and cake all the time.

A family friend, who grew up with our son, was killed in Afghanistan this past week. His body came home Saturday. The services are set for next weekend. Funerals are all hard...this one will be just a little more difficult. He and his new wife would have celebrated their 1st anniversary next month. He was 23yrs old.

Dinner
Wednesday the kids had Mcdonalds and DH and I had subway.
Thursday I made beef stew. It was so yummy and warm....cold day here.
Friday was oven roasted pork chops and stuffing
Saturday was beef stroganoff, noodles, green beans, cottage cheese and angle biscuits and Italian cream cake.
Sunday they got to eat leftovers!
Tonight I think will be bbq pork sandwiches and fries.

Have a great day friends.

Hi cake table buddies ~

tonight:
veg buffalo wings
salad
Maine Coast Sea Veg. Chips ...like a vegan dorrito, very good.
~obscene amount of green tea around 11pm to unwind...

We've not heard from my husband's best friend (great guy) since summer 2004. He last spoke to me and said he was going to "disappear" for a while, because Iraq really screwed him up. Well, it's been over 5 years, and I really started to worry... no word, nothing... I did find out he did a 3rd tour in 2007, back now for good. We gave him his space, of course. I couldn't take it anymore (worrying) so I looked him up on the internet to find out if he had died or if he was alive. I finally found him 2 days ago on a social network site, only he now goes by his middle name. It appears he's doing well, which makes me wonder why he's left my husband in the dark, but that's probably a selfish thing to feel (of course I'd never ask him why). We just really care about him. I'm not sure we should reach out to him, or let him come to us? There's a part of me that really hates social networking on the web... I miss phone calls or even emails. It feels like snooping, and while the many pages (like his) are open for the world to read... it still feels like an invasion of his privacy. I'm just happy to know he's alive. Should we wait for him? I'm sure the war and the military has changed him... I immaturely think when you've not seen someone in ages, it's like no time has passed... not always the case.

Thanks for reading... sorry for rambling.

Well it's been a little bit for me, but I'm glad you are all doing ok.

I'm staying busy at work and with the ACF. I have a demo in front of 80 - 100 people this Friday. Kind of nervous. I've never had to demo a dessert before in front of so many people. I'm making a traditional French Flourless chocolate cake, since it can be used more for the health care industry.

I had my knee appointment yesterday. Everything went well, better than expected. I don't need surgery on both knees...yet. I get re-evaluated in 1 year. I had both needs injected and it feels kind of weird right now. I was told I have bad arthritis in both knees and that I've been way too hard on my body over the years. I'm 31 and have done lots of damage to them because of sports, the military, working and such. Anyways, I have to go back every 3 months or so. I was told if I gain 10 pounds that I have surgery, no questions asked. I'm 5'2" and weigh 109 pounds with clothes and shoes on. He said that my being on the thin side and working out because I have pretty good muscle tone is the only thing saving me right now. Eventually I'll have surgery but I'm glad it's not just yet.

We've been eating but I really can't remember what. Everything been practically a blur lately.

Melissa I just want to say thanks to you and you husband both for serving our country.

Today has SUCKED! I just got home from the calling hours for our family friend who died last week in Afghanistan. I am thankful for his service to our country. He knew what he signed up for. He was a Ranger. Toward the end of his Ranger training he broke his leg in several places. It was his out....but he didn't want out. He wanted to help fight terror.
I know there are lots of opinions on the war...but the one thing I can say is that we are free and it came at a price. That price has a name for us.
Tomorrow will be a really hard day. I don't know how his widow and his mother will get through it....God's grace I guess.
...just need to vent. My stomach hurts so bad from the stress and emotion of the evening...I am drinking out of the Mylanta bottle.

Melissa how did the demo go. I know you were great.

Kellerture....not sure what you should do....my gut response is life is short, call him. Keep us posted.

Ohara-I'm so sorry for your loss. I absolutely get sick to my stomach when another one of our hero's come home this way.

Kellerture-Try to contact him. He may be thinking of you all also and just doesn't know what to do.

Kay-Glad everything is going okay. Keep on doing that homework. I have the same thing here with my kids. Everything is going better at our house.
My DH and I are getting along much better.

Tonight was spiral glazed ham, mashed potatoes, brown sugared squash, cinnamon baked apples and rolls.

The demo went well. I was so nervous but managed to pull it off. I was in a room by myself doing a traditional French Torte with raspberry sauce for my demo. There was also a guy in the hall demonstrating a new program for the computer dealing with dietary and an ice carving demo outside. I always had a good crowd which surprised me. There were probably around 8 people who never even left my table to go see the other demo's. They asked questions and I had a few doing things to see how the batter was and such. All but 3 pieces of torte was left and I cut more than needed. All in all it went pretty well. There was about 60 people there. There was bad weather that day so some people didn't come who RSVP'd.

Have a great day everyone. Stay warm.

tonight was leftovers. The kids had ham and waffles with fruit salad.
DH and I had ham, potatoes, rolls, fruit salad and broccoli soup.

I woke up at 4:50am so I'm getting to bed soon.
