Hey ladies..hope that you all are having great day!! Tonight's dinner was pumpkin curry chicken, white rice, and apple pie. The stuffed peppers and tofu curry with brown rice sounds interesting, too thumbs_up.gif . I also like to mix things up by having breakfast for dinner, mkolmar icon_biggrin.gif .

The strangest thing I've ever eaten was escargot. I couldn't believe that I was eating snails icon_surprised.gif . They weren't bad...tasted like buttered mushrooms. I don't think I'll try it again, though.

You're right, mightlydragon....having food in common is fun. Food brings people togather thumbs_up.gif

I have tried escargot twice. Once with a little pastry covering and once without. icon_razz.gif I prefered them covered, then I couldn't tell what I was eating. I don't really like my proteins to look like what they were before they were dinner.
The pumpkin chicken curry really sounds good! icon_rolleyes.gif
I think it would be a lot of fun to work at William-Sonoma, but I don't think I would ever actually bring home a paycheck...too many fun things there.

Culinary school.... that explains why your meals always sound so yummy and beautiful, mkolmar. I've never tried eel...come to think of it, I have never even thought about trying eel. icon_confused.gif What was the texture like? Did it have a fishy taste?

Honestly, the class went to a sushi bar and that was my favorite thing out of probably the 15 different items I tried. The texture was actually not rubbery or fishy at all. They did a great job preparing it. I really don't care for fish or seafood. I don't like a fishy fresh from the ocean taste, so eating sushi was a big jump for me. I prefer warm water fish if I'm going to eat it (which is practically never).
I graduated from culinary school 1 1/2 years ago. I still take classes though and will forever keep doing continuing education on my own to advance further. ( A long process when your married with 4 kids, takes forever) My goal is to become a culinary educator and work with troubled or slightly special needs people.

Last night I ate a tofu-cheese pie with noodles with beef tips and light gravy. I had to work so my wonderful MIL made dinner for me. She has a key, but I was shocked to see her at my house with the stove going. A happy surprise non the less.

My daughter has a friend spending a night tonight so I'm getting ready for that as well as the mother son dance tonight at school.

The strangest food that I have eaten would be either alligator or rattle snake. DH used to travel a lot for business stuff and spouses would go to the big conferences. There were always events and dinners....and of course the pressure to try these novelty foods. We had rattle snake in Arizona and alligator in New Orleans. The rattle snake was alright. I wasn't a real fan of the alligator. My kids loved the alligator jerky we brought home to them.

Tonight dinner was Italian beef sandwiches, with chips. Not exciting....but DH loves my Italian beef.

Hello Everyone!
Tonight was teriyaki pork tenderloin, white rice with asian vegetable stir fry and veggie egg rolls. For dessert I made apple egg rolls. (granny smith apples with a little brown sugar and cinnamon) I did fry them and then sprinkled with powdered sugar. The family seemed to like them so I'll make them again sometime.

Have to get ready for bed, hope you all have a wonderful night.

Melissa.....YUM! I'll have an apple egg roll please. You are so creative. Your dinner sounds like it was great.

Oldest daughter called and said she would like to come over. Of course I didn't have anything planned for dinner. I ended up making Mexican....we had burritos, refried beans, salsa and chips. Mexican food is her favorite, and thankfully for me it is easy to do.

Of course Lita's ribs and spinach sound good too. hhhmmmm, which house to crash for dinner? icon_lol.gif

Had a rough day at work today, can't wait to go to bed tonight.
Got to get ready to go watch my niece cheer for 7th grade basketball, hope you all have a wonderful night.

Tonight was spaghetti and garlic bread. DH is having ricotta-cheese-spinach stuffed shells, mozzarella- cucumber - tomato salad and pesto flat bread. Tiramisu gelato for dessert.

Hope all is well. It's that time to start making Holiday goodies again. What all are you planning on making?

Mkolmar...your dinner sounds DELISH!! I LOVE Italian Food.....just as much, if not more, than Soul Food. Tiramisu is my favorite dessert!! I guess those years working for Sbarro's in high school gave me a big soft spot for Italian food icon_biggrin.gif .

Dinner for me tonight was homemade pizza on a Boboli crust. I usually make my own crust but I was in a pinch for time because I had to work tonight. No dessert for me...I'll be doing a lot of taste testing soon so I have to keep it light....not that pizza is diet food icon_lol.gificon_lol.gificon_lol.gif

For Thanksgiving, I plan to make pecan-pumpkin butter pies and some pumpkin cheesecake muffins to give away. For my house...I may either make an apple pie, sweet potato pie, or a large pecan-pumkin butter pie. It is only two of us in my home so I am not going to go to town in the dessert department for Thanksgiving.

Ya'll have a great night icon_smile.gif

Last night I tried a new crock pot recipe. This one was good. Everyone liked it. That's always a plus.
We had stuffed steak with gravy, noodles, and sweet corn.

I am cooking all of Thanksgiving. My sister and her family will be here next Wednesday afternoon. They will stay until Sunday morning. Between them and our crew there will be 15 of us to feed for all those days, let alone Thanksgiving.
I always make pumpkin pie and pecan pie and the third desert is always different. I haven't made a decision on what it will be yet.

Melissa I have started thinking about what goodies I will make this year for Christmas. I will bake cookies, as I always do. I will also make the chocolate covered peanuts that I usually make. It's so easy and yummy. I am going to try and make my own peppermint bark this year. I love it and I won't pay the price they want for it.
I am also wanting to try toffee. I will also make fudge, chocolate and peanut butter.

Lita your pies sound yummy.

Your dinnner sound great, Ohara. I have a lot of learning to do in the crock pot cooking arena. I look forward to learning how to do more slow cooking icon_smile.gif . Your Holiday baking also sounds yummy! You are going to have some happy friends and family icon_biggrin.gif

For the Holiday baking I plan to make several drop cookies, s'mores, eggnog truffles, peppermint truffles, RKT, and gingerbread cookies. I am also thinking about trying to make peppermint bark. I agree with you, Ohara...that stuff is outstanding but pricey. My list is not written in concrete because I am constantly revising it. Oh the dilemma....

Y'all have a great day icon_smile.gif

OMG!!!!! You guys are making me hungry just reading this, nevermnid that I just ate breakfast!! icon_lol.gif And the desserts....ohhhhhh the desserts just sound so indecent!

I mostly baked this weekend. For some crazy reason, I volunteered to make gingerbread houses for my staff to decorate this year. WHAT WAS I THINKING!!!! icon_cry.gif Actually, they are always appreciative and they don't mind being my guinea pigs. Imagine that. icon_rolleyes.gif Today, they will be "testing" my first attempt at croissants.

DH and I are spending Thanksgiving together in a mountain retreat, at home. icon_biggrin.gif And, since I don't much like Turkey, we're having party food! I figure that if I am going to eat 2,000 calories at a meal, I'm going to make it something I really like. icon_lol.gif

Hope you guys have an awsome day!

Tonight was French toast and thick sliced maple cured bacon.
DH and I had leftover spinach-ricotta-cheese stuffed shells. I also grilled up some asiago cheese bread to go with a spring mixed salad with dried cranberries, pecans, blue cheese crumbles and bacon.

Gonna get ready for bed. I hardly did anything today and yet I'm still tired.

Last night was what ever leftover they wanted. The 2 year old has been sick the last couple of days and DH wasn't feeling well in the afternoon so he said ..."don't go to a lot of trouble for dinner". Well that's all you have to tell me. LOL

Here's hoping that everyone is well today. I don't have time for this sick stuff.....company's coming for the holiday and this house won't clean itself. I did get quite a bit done yesterday in between taking care of babies.

I think I'm making ham and beans for tonight. I have a ham bone that needs used. Always a good excuse to make cornbread.

Have a good day ladies.

Your dinner last night sounds good, mkolmar. Your asiago cheese bread sounds divine!

Hi everyone, hope your Thanksgiving was a happy one.
Ohara- is the family still sick?

I've been really busy so I haven't posted in a while, but neither has anyone else really so I guess you are all busy too. icon_razz.gif

The bathroom remodel is going slower than expected. Our houses angels are horrible and the contractor is having a harder time than normal. He's doing great work though and has about 30 years experience. Happy so far, but I do really hope it gets done soon.

I've been busy at work because of Thanksgiving pie sales. Went alright I guess, but I made a few mistakes. Hate making mistakes at work.

I had 2 places to go on Thanksgiving. We went to my MILs for lunch then my mom and dad's for dinner. (still too full from lunch though to eat dinner)
Typical Thanksgiving meal so I'll just write what I made. I made a honey brined turkey that turned out well. It was juicy and falling practically off the bone. Also made stuffed mushrooms, white cupcakes with cream cheese icing, pumpkin pie that I added a little bourbon to and apple pie with a crispy crumb topping drizzled in caramel sauce.
Lots of calories at dinner that's for sure. I could eat my weight in stuffing icon_lol.gif Hop all is well with everyone!

mkolmar, your Thanksgiving dinner sounds sublime!

DH and I stayed home and just had some together time. No phones, no TV, and no visiting for two day! Just us....and the dog. We had our very non-traditional meal on the floor, played games, watched a movie, talked and went for a hike. A very short hike. (Our dog is almost 14 and she is only good for about a mile.) We had such a good time that I am thinking that this might become our tradition. icon_smile.gif

Ohara, hope everyone is getting better at your house.

Hope that everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving!!!

Mkolmar, your Thanksgiving dinner sounds yummy! I also brined a bird for the first time (chicken instead of turkey since there was only 2 of us) and it was the best poultry I've ever eaten. It was a two step-brine then marinade process. I got the recipe off of Allrecipes.com. We also had traditional African-American fare with homemade baked macaroni and cheese, collard greens with smoked turkey, candied yams, homemade sage stuffing with pan dripping gravy, and pecan pumpkin butter pie for dessert.

Mightydragon...your Thanksgiving sounds like it was soooo romantic! I'd take that kind of Thanksgiving any day icon_smile.gif

I hope that all is well, Ohara icon_smile.gif

Lita- I love southern style cooking (I know Ohara does too). That's pretty much what I was raised on.

Tonight was egg frittata (chopped ham, red bell pepper, mushrooms, basil and colby/monterey jack cheese) scrambled eggs, raspberry strudel, red skinned roasted potatoes and pancakes. For my really picky daughter....cereal.

Hey table friends.. Sorry I haven't been on for awhile.. I have tried to read up when I could. It has been INSANE November. I did 2 craft shows, had bronchitis which is still lingering ((GGGRRR))) Then it was Thanksgiving. Boy the month flew by. I can't believe Christmas is less than a month away. Got lots to do. Don't have tree up not sure if we will again this year.. Jord found a dog last year around Thankgiving and he CHEWS everything. So not sure if I want to go through the PAIN.. But Brooke really wants to do it this year. Last year I just put up a little one on a card table..

Anyway we did eat.. Tonight was fried chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy, corn and cornbread..

Last night Mike and I went out to the movie Old Dogs. It was SO FUNNY.. We haven't been to the movies for years.. Or out to eat for months..Brooke was suppose to spend the night with my sis. But Sis brought her home around 8. Brooke and nephew starting fighting. We went to matinee so I was cooking broiled cheap steak, fried potatoes, and a salad. So she ate with us. Then she went to bed with Mike for some snuggle time and watched tv..

Fri. I didn't want to cook LOL after Thanksgiving. I made chicken nuggets, fries, and pork & beans

Thanksgiving went to MIL's I took the homemade mashed potatoes with butter, sourcream and cream cheese mixed in them. Tators were also boiled in homemade chicken broth.. (YUMMY) and dressing, Kidney bean salad (which was a crazy story MIL forgot I was going to bring so we had 2 of those LOL) Also made my taco rollups, zuchini cake and pumpkin and apple pies from work.. And of course there was lots more food to much to name LOL

So now on to the busy weeks ahead.. Christmas baking and last minute candles/makeup sales for gifts.. I hope to be able to pop in again soon.. I will try really hard I promise.. ((HHUUGGGSS)) to all

Well, I made 2 lasagnas with the leftover fondue and spincach artichoke dip. One was spinach/artichoke with a tomato sauce and the other was butternut squash and chard. I ran out of noodles for the last one so, I crumbled the leftover spanikopita on top.

With these last two lasagnas, I have pretty much run out of room in the freezer. I am starting pastry school in January and was trying to get as many meals made as I could to feed DH while I am in school. I think I have come pretty close to accomplishing my goal. icon_lol.gif

Holy Cow! Christmas is only a month away! kaychristensen, I'm with you, no tree this year. I just cannot justify pulling out all that stuff for three weeks and the dog could care less if is or isn't up. We won't even be home for Christmas! It does make my life much more simple that way. icon_biggrin.gif I do have a lot of baking I want to do, but we'll see. If it happens, it happens; if it doesn't, it doesn't.

Hope everyone has an awesome day! icon_biggrin.gif

Hello table friends!

My husband was the last one to get the tummy yuck. He got it the Wednesday before Thanksgiving and was really sick until Saturday afternoon. Then....Monday morning BOTH babies woke up with a fever icon_cry.gif My sister and her family were here from Wednesday to Sunday. She was wicked sick when they got here, with a cold. So, that's what the babies have. The older one has it worse than the little baby. I think this will be the pattern for the winter. I hope I'm wrong.

We did have a nice Thanksgiving all in all. My DH says that we have to do it again since he didn't feel well enough to enjoy the food. I can tell you all that right now....I'm not feeling that! I feel like I am cooked out.

mightydragon663 your lasagnas sound great. I love using up leftovers. Sounds like you had a really nice relaxing day on Thanksgiving. I read your menu on the other thread. Yum I will be looking forward to hearing about your experiences in pastry school.

Lita....Yes, very southern style. I was raised on southern foods. May be part of the reason my back side is the size it is. LOL. One of my favorite meals out was when we were in Savannah Ga. We went to Paula Deans The Lady and son's. It is a buffet and I can tell you it was hard to walk away. The fried chicken was to die for, they bring hot hoe cakes to the table. Her baked mac n cheese was wonderful....it all was. I think my favorite were her butter beans! When your done with the buffet they bring around desert tray. I was miserable when we left.

mkolmar....I hope the bathroom remodel get done for you soon. I know you will enjoy it when it's done...just not right now.
Maybe you could share your honey brine recipe? I have a couple more turkeys in the freezer. At 29 cents a pound we will eat turkey a couple of times this winter.

Kay....great to hear from you. I was worried about you. Sorry to hear that you've been sick. How's Mike? You are one busy woman. I hope you get a chance to pop back in soon. ((((((HUGS)))))

Last night was what we call white chicken. It has a white sauce and served over pasta. They all love it .

Tonight is speech therapy so it may just be leftovers and sandwiches.

I hope you all are well.

Ohara, I hope the babies are well soon. How many children do you have? I think would be very hard as a parent when your kids are sick because you can't make them better; and when they are babies, you can't even explain to them what is wrong. Bless their little hearts.

Kay, I hope your bronchitis gets better soon too. That stuff really hangs on sometimes and can be so misrable. Someone needs to make chicken soup for you. (It works so much better if someone else makes it. icon_biggrin.gif )

We were supposed to go out for dinner with DH's aunt and uncle, but it is snowing and they aren't comfortable driving in it. (They live in FL; I guess there isn't much snow there icon_smile.gif ) Kind of a bummer; I really enjoy their company. So, who knows what we are having for dinner tonight. icon_smile.gif

Hi Everyone...sorry I have been MIA. I am sorry to hear that your family was under the weather, Ohara...hopefully everyone will be feeling better soon. You are a very special woman, Ohara, to become a foster parent. It is a shame that there is even a need for it in the first place but that is the world we live in. Ohara, no apologies needed. There is a very special place in heaven for you and the many other foster parents for the work that you do. And to do that in addition to caring for your daughter. Wow, all I can say is that I really admire you.

I live in Conifer, CO near the top of Conifer mountain, but I work in a suburb of Denver. I am happy to see the snow; it really helps create that Christmas atmosphere.

Kay and Ohara--I hope everyone is well soon in your families

Mightydragon- I have family in CO Springs. Pretty close to you.

I hope everyone is doing well at the table tonight.
I'm doing much better and am recovering from a mild concussion from Tuesday night. I'm a klutz and slipped and hit my head on the corner of the wall. I'm doing better now but still am not feeling great. The bonus was that my ER doctor was HOT. Goodness was he good looking. icon_razz.gif

Tonight was French dips.
Last night was chicken tenders and macaroni with cheese and rolls.
The day before was Italian breaded chicken with multi-grain pasta, seasoned veggies and garlic bread.
