Hello Table Friends

First off WELCOME to the table Peytonsmom

It has been a very rough week at our house..At the beginning of the week I worried about Mike's job. But on Wed. afternoon our lives were put into perspective.. We got a phone call from Jordans Bestfiends sister.. (These boys have been best friends since diapers.) Payton was in the hospital from a drug overdose. And it was no sure if he would live. There were so many ??'s. Did he do it to himself and if so why? He had 10 Oxycoton (sp) in his system.. So Jordan my son was a mess. Payton now lives with his mom over 3 hours from us. So it was a rush to get Jordan's car fixed enough to get to him. Jordan and his girlfriend went to Omaha on Thur. early am to be with Payton. Omaha is a 3 to 4 hour trip from here. When Jordan got there Payton was hooked up to life support. They didn't know if he would live. He had phnomomia(sp) from choking on his vomit. They didn't know the extent of his trauma.

Payton is a senior in High School. Payton had been with some old freinds the night before. He came home and went to bed. His alarm clock went off and he wasn't getting up. His sis went in to get him up and he was snoring and in a deep sleep. So being a deep sleeper she brushed it off. Went back in awhile later and still couldn't get him up. He was snoring but making weird breathing sounds. So she called there parents.. They got him to the hospital. And found out what was wrong. So then the police enter the picture. They trace his steps and find his so called friends. They had the drugs on them and sort of confessed to doing something to him. So they were jailed.

So now good news. He is stable and awake. But he doesn't remember what happened. He has some kidney problems still. They are unsure if there is any brain damage yet. BUT HE IS ALIVE.. So that is the most important thing. My other little boy who I helped raise for 7 years is still here on earth.. Thank God

Mike could lose his job and I can deal with that it would be tough but I could do it. If we would have lost Payton I don't know how life would be.

Sorry about my long story. But it has been a long week..

So what did we eat I am not sure..

Except On Friday night after we knew Payton was getting better Mike and I went out to supper at Applebee's.. We never get to go out. But I was exhausted and Brooke spent te night with her cousin and Jord worked. So we had dinner together out alone. For the first time in over a year. We had a wonderful night. A good steak and a drink. It was so funny we were there actually talking. And the table across from us a younger man and woman. She was texting almost the whole time. They hardly talked what fun is that?? I really enjoyed our night out..

Life is short Love like there is no tomorrow......

Kay- (((BIG HUG))) I hope Peyton is doing better. I really don't know what to say. I'm shocked from reading it. Some friends those turned out to be. I'm glad Jordan got to go see him though, you have a good son and a great family. Your so sweet and kind, the world needs more people like you.

K2--How did the cakes for the crazed cafe owner go? Is he still trying to claim your work as his? He better not be!

Tonight was french toast dusted in powdered sugar with 100% maple syrup or honey (which ever they chose) maple sausage links, strawberry-banana yogurt fruit smoothies, milk, OJ and homemade sausage gravy and homemade biscuits.

My daughter is in a school play soon, the Music Man. I offered to help with the refreshment table....stupid me....I was told make enough for 100 people. Got a call today saying "I'm sorry, it's actually make enough for 300!" *gulp* yep, I'll still help. The things I do for my children. I'll be making 300 cupcakes and music note cookies. Then another night probably regular cookies and some form of a truffle. I get paid for the ingredients used so at least I'm not 100% out of pocket, just time. I won't be using my important ingredients though.

Kay~ my heart goes right out to you ((((( HUGS ))))). You are an inspiration to everyone. I'm glad you feel comfortable sharing your pain and not keeping it to yourself. You are one STRONG feminina!!!

Melissa~ Breakfast is my favorite supper, infact we had it last night! Your's sounds much better... how I miss the "pancake"... icon_rolleyes.gif
The cafe freakshow~ after yelling at me Friday when I stood up for myself (I said I would only do cakes and no more whoopie pies - not worth the trouble), today he was overly friendly. My sister is bipolar, as is my mother and he acts just like them when they are at their worst, so now I'm wondering if he's off balance. I never know if I'm going to get Jekyl or Hyde, so this is ending very soon. I don't need to be spoken to like that. He's got problems... and they aren't going to be mine.

tonight~
Tuscan Chick pea soup w/ rice and spinach

I baked like crazy tonight preparing for a cake tasting on friday. I think I'll let them sample~ choc mud cake, green tea, vanilla, carrot-ginger, and hummingbird. (Don't worry, no hummingbirds were injured during the making of that cake. icon_lol.gif)

I'm outta here...

Well who is this stranger you ask? Yup the long lost one from downunder has returned icon_biggrin.gif . Was it bushfires that kept me away, no they were too far away from me icon_surprised.gif . Did I have trouble finding the computer icon_eek.gif well, now you mentioned it icon_rolleyes.gif . My computer has been in "hospital" for ages icon_cry.gif it was very sad, it got a virus courtesy of one of my children icon_evil.gif and it's been back and forth to the "hospital" for nearly a month icon_mad.gificon_cry.gif . I missed my computer and talking to my friends on CC, I actually think I was having withdrawal symptoms icon_wink.gif yuck not nice. Now DH is loading everything back into the computer, very sloooowly tapedshut.gif . Though one good thing I found was how clean the house got and how much cake decorating I could do when I wasn't on the computer icon_rolleyes.gif still not sure if that was a good thing.

There has been so much going on here that I'm having trouble keeping up. I'm definitely going to have to find out what a "whoopie pie" is Melissa.

So apart from being busy with cakes and I'll post some pics later when I can, DH has had pneumonia and thankfully is recovering very nicely now thank goodness. Men being sick thumbsdown.gif .

Tonight we're having barramundi on asian green vegies and noodles and I even made dessert 3 toned chocolate mousse as a trial run but I'm not very happy with it so will be on the lookout for another chocolate mousse recipe.

Hope nothing else goes wrong with the computer and I'll talk again soon. thumbs_up.gif

A whoopie pie is a cake sandwich with cream filling. It's a VERY Maine thing, although I believe it was origionally an Amish creation. I've attached a photo. icon_smile.gif

Ok first off the last I knew Payton is on the mend. Not sure when he will be out of the hospital. But Jord and Payton are more like brothers than friends. So there was no way Jord wasn't going to be by his side. When Paytons parents spit and his Dad got custody Payton became my second son. He calls me mom. And his Mom doesn't take offense. Because I was a female influnce on him. I raised him along side Jord. So they are brothers in a sence..I wish I could have gone to see him but it was impossible for me But Jord had to be there for the both of us. It was like my own son was in the hospital..

But on a happier note Brooke had a musi program tonight which was AMAZING.. Her teacher is awesome. They usually do 2 shows a night. First show is usually K thru 2nd and second show is 3rd thru 5th. But this year the teacher broke it down more. And she did 3 different shows. Making it easier for all 5 grades to perform to there fullest. There was singing, speaking parts, instrumental parts and dance parts. So everyone had a chance to perform. Not just sing and stand there. It was AWESOME. The theme was music around the world. So some of the countries were Africa, Ireland, Japan,And of course USA I can't remeber all of them and my program is in the car and Mike took it to work.. But it was fun and you could tell the kids enjoyed doing it..

So tonight for supper was Fish, fries and peas.

Last night was lasagna and garlic bread

Wow K2 those Whoopie Pies look pretty good and of course there would be no calories in them icon_lol.gif . I'm going to see if we have an Oz version of them but I might try and make them anyway icon_biggrin.gif

Kay you never disappoint you constantly go at 300 miles an hour, I don't know how you manage. There is always so much happening in your life mine sounds very mundane in comparison. And what happened to the Australian content of this music extravaganza huh, didn't hear you mention that one icon_wink.gif

Tonight we had Burritos and salad cause I wasn't in the mood to cook icon_sad.gif so decided to make something quick and easy.

Hello table friends!! I can't believe it's been more than a week since I have posted. We have been eating. I feel like I am cooking all the time. lol

I'll go back a few days...

Saturday I grilled sirloin steaks and onions, roasted potatoes and sweet corn
Sunday we went out with friends for a birthday lunch. We had sandwiches for dinner.
Monday....pork loin, baked potatoes, carrots and cottage cheese
Tuesday...spaghetti and meatballs with sweet corn and garlic bread
Wednesday....chicken taco salads
Tonight is left over spaghetti. I made so much we will all have it for dinner and there will probably still be some left again.

The baby is doing well. (our new foster baby) He is 18 days old today. He is a really good baby. I don't think we will have him for much longer. But I won't know for sure until next week.

I have had a cold and sore throat for the last 6 days. Just starting to feel better. DD has some virus also. There is a virus going around here that includes being dizzy...which then makes you feel not to great in the stomach. She stayed home from school today. I hate when my kids get sick.

Janine....I hope all of yours are well soon. It's awful when the husband gets sick icon_wink.gif I'll look forward to you posting you competition cakes when they are done. I'm sure you will do a great job!

K2...yes we are foster parents. We have been for 13 years. Yes, you get attached. I figure if God calls me to do something he will equip me to handle it. There have been times when I wondered what his plan was though!

Kay...I'm glad things were improving with Payton. What an awful thing. Your right though it puts things in our lives into perspective.

Sparkle....good to have you back. Glad to hear that your DH is on the mend.

Juju....how close are you getting to your due date? Hope all is well with you and all yours are getting better.

Mkolmar....WOW 300. That is very kind of you. I'm sure they will be very happy with your work.

Time to end this...the baby is fussing. Have a good one.

My first time joining the table, lol!

Well, this week has been busy I'm planning my 4 yr olds b-day party and taking my 17yr old out prom dress shopping.

I'll try to remember what we had for dinner....
Monday: Spaghetti with a Keilbasa meat sauce
Tuesday:Shrimp Alfredo with homemade butter biscuits (cooked by 17 yr old DD)
Wednesdayicon_razz.gifrom dress shopping, ate out
Thursday: Country style baked chicken, mashed potatoes, rice pilaf, and corn
Friday: ?not sure yet, have to wait and see when I get home icon_wink.gif

I work full time, I have three daughters~ a soon to be 2 yr old, soon to be 4 yr old and a 17 yr old. My husband has been out of work for about 3 years now with a back injury and is in constant pain - he's had 3 surgeries. He does most of the cooking during the week since he's home. Mostly it's quick easy stuff. We try to make better dinners on the weekends, but sometimes we get so busy then that it doesn't happen then either! My one moment of sanity is when we get together with our friends (usually once a week) and have dinner/snacks and drink wine! Sometimes I feel like there is no end to this carousel ride I'm on, and I just want to cry..... can't talk to DH about it because it just makes him feel worse about his situation. So... thanks for listening!

Mom23girls WELCOME to the table! I'm sorry about your husbands back and being out of work! I do know what you mean about not being able to talk to him about it. My husband has been unemployed since November. Downsized. I don't talk to him about some things, because I know it makes him feel bad. And that's not my point, as you know! So feel free to come vent here at the table. All will welcome you, we have a great table family!
Good luck on the the prom dress shopping.

Welcome to the table Mom23girls, when I first read it I though you were mom to 23 girls. Another blonde moment LOL.

Your years school year runs different to ours. Obviously the Proms are on now so that must be the ending of the school year I guess. We call Proms, Formals and they are at the end of the year which is when our school year ends. My youngest DS is having his at the end of the year.

Well lets think food.

Hi everyone!
Welcome to the table mom23girls, Shelle_75 and maryjsgirl.
Kay-I hope that Jordans friend is doing better.
sparkle-happy 30th anniversary!!!!
Juju-I wish you lots of peaceful and good rest nights leading up to the big day for baby #4.
Ohara- How is the baby doing?
Janine-look at all those new cakes in your photos. You've been really busy! congrats on all the success with your business.
K2--How was the crazed business owner this time? I hope he's still not claiming your work as his own.

Well, been busy getting ready for this weekends 300 cupcakes and cookies for the kids school. How do I get myself into these things? icon_confused.gificon_rolleyes.gif
Anyways life is going to be hectic the next few weeks so I'll be checking in when I can. We'll be going on our first family vacation in the next few weeks. We are driving to Florida with all 4 kids in tow. (17 hours one way----pray for us) I'm looking at every possible option to try to save money, like that's even possible. (we are staying off site in a hotel that has a full kitchen so that will help) Plan on visiting a few places to break everything up during the week.
got to go and make lunch for my youngest son and start rolling truffles.
Have a great day everyone!

It's nice to see some new people at the table!!!
Welcome to: Maryjsgirl & Moms23girls. We've got quite an assortment of foods whizzing through this thread.
Duck!.....FOOD FIGHT!!! icon_lol.gif

Last night's fare~
Tofurkey
homemade vegan gravy
mashed turnip
green peas
(husband & daughter had Mashed potatos too)

Things are ok here. I've been invited as an exhibitor in our States Vegetarian Foods Festival in July, so I'll have a cake table. (I'll be the only cake person, so that's cool). I may double my display for my pencil portraits too... why not, right?

I hope all is well or is getting better. You're all in my thoughts.

I bid thee adieu... hat1.gif

This looks like such a fun thread and I hope it's okay if I join the table. I love to cook but, like everyone else, am really busy during the week and don't get to try as many new recipes as I'd like. Here's what the last few nights looked like:

Friday: Friday night is always pizza night in our house. Sometimes we pick it up, but usually I make it. I've finally got the hang of making my own crust (believe me, it took some trial and error). The kids had pepperoni and black olives on their pizza, and my husband and I had pesto, prosciutto, and fresh mozzarella (yum!).

Saturday: Salmon burgers for us (don't be impressed - they're frozen ones) and hot dogs for the kids.

Sunday: bbq chicken, roasted potatoes, and a salad

Monday: Frittata (basically a low-maintenance omelet) with ham and parmesan and a salad

I think tonight will be baked ziti. I made a double-batch last time and froze part of it. So, all I have to do is throw it in the oven and make a salad. Yay! I love easy meals.

I am a mother of 2 active boys (ages 7 and 4). My husband and I treat kids with autism. I love to make cakes for friends and would like to do it more seriously someday - maybe when the kids are older.

Thanks for letting me sidle up to your table.

Hmmm, I seem to have forgotten to put down what we've had for dinner in my last post. Tuesday was sauted red bell pepper, cajun chicken and honey bbq chicken breast, beer bread with honey butter.
Monday was spaghetti, seasoned broccoli and garlic bread.
Sunday was beef roast with carrots and potatoes and rolls at my mom and dad's house.
Saturday I had a salad and a baked potato with broccoli and cheese from Wendy's. (healthiest option I could go for).
Friday was cheese pizza.

Tonight will be breakfast food. Whole wheat pancakes and eggs with toast.

K2-How exciting. I hope the table goes very well for you.
dmich- Welcome to the table! We are a fun group of ladies that talk more than about food, but our lives and our dreams.
My son has Aspergers, so thanks for all you do.

Thanks for the welcome, mkolmar. And you are the one who deserves the credit, as I believe every parent of a special needs child does. How old is your son?

I'm looking forward to getting to know each of you.
