Hi Diana
Just posting this message will mean (if you want) that you have joined our happy family.
We post as much or as little as you want. We give support, ideas and information. We weigh in every thursday, you can give your weight or what you gained or lost for the week. Wednesday is our no cheat day, so that means what ever you want it to mean. No cheating on your work outs, eating or something else you want. On Mondays we check in just to note how the weekend went. We have a weekly cheerleader who will give inspiration (even tho we all do thru the week), challenges and basically a kick in the butt when we need it.
There is also a web site www.sparkpeople.com a free site for weight loss. It is overwhelming at first but take you time cruising thru, it is very informative and has many usefull things.
Anyway welcome to our thread and today is no cheat day!!! What a day to join huh?
Today is the perfect day to join! I actually worked out...I think. Did stairclimber thing for a few, then it started making wierd noises....The fabric band was breaking. How sad! ~BUT~ I did not quit! I moved to another machine that was about the same thing. So all in all there I did almost 15 minutes I think. Then I moved to a (I don't even know what it is called!) A sitting up bench press thing. I did two sets of 15. I followed that up with 3 sets of 20 crunches. To cool down, I walked around for about 5 minutes. I hope I am doing this right....
Thank you SO much for the kind welcome!
yes, please join us, Diana!
First of all let me congratulate you on quitting smoking. Weight gain aside, I think that is the best desicion you have made for youself!! Yay you!
I am not aware of anyone else in our group that has recently quit smoking or who can share your same struggle. Unless quitting desserts counts? LOL! But I hope you can find inspriation in our group. I'd say that most of us are pretty regular here, but come and go as you please!
Welcome, Daina!
It is nice to have you here. We will, of course, offer all the help and encouragement that we can.
Congratualtions on the quitting smoking! That is a great step towards a healthy lifestyle. Weight gain aside. You will lose the weight.
Welcome, Diana. We hope we can be an encouragement to you.
I have weighed in this morning, and it's the first time I have weighed myself for about 3 weeks. It wasn't pretty. I had a really bad week last week, but this week I've been better, and I know I'm lighter than last week. So I'm now starting again. Weighing in at
156
My goal is to lose 2 lbs this week.
Tuesday, if you're there, and you're well, are you interested in being cheerleader this week? Jodi still hasn't shown herself, and we've been doing some re-shuffling. If you're not feeling up to it, I'll do it again, then our roster will be caught up and can continue as normal.
What does being a cheerleader entail?
Good morning, all!
I forgot to weigh myself again this week. I'll try to remember tomorrow morning. I was just going to ask if you wanted me to be cheerleader a week earlier. I hope Jodie is alright. It's been a while. For that matter, we haven't heard from Tuesday for a few days, either, and I hope she is doing well, also.
Tuesday, if you read this, let us know how you are. we miss you.
Diana, the cheerleader for the week comes up with challenges to help us along with our weight loss and encouragement and also. If anybody is having an especially hard time, the cheerleader tries to give that person extra encouragement. Of course, we all offer encouragement and support whenever it seems appropriate.
I'll be trying to check in throughout the day. Yesterday it was kinda hard because of all the work and also being out of the office for an hour and a half for breakfast. Today we are going out for lunch. Cheesecake Factory. I should be able to find something there that I can eat and then bring half back to the office.
Final count, two dozen chocolate chip cookies and a can of the wafers rolled up with chocolate inside. I just can't seem to get through that I don't want cookies and candy laying around. I'm wondering if I can freeze some of them. Maybe take them to my mother's for Mothers Day so that the kids can have them.
I also got a bundt pan in the shape of a stadium, and a $40 JoAnn Fabric gift card. I can now purchase some more of the cake supplies that I have been wanting. Of course, also the restaurant gift certificates, which I did not need, either. But it is so nice to be remembered for something so little. Almost makes it worth it to go through all of the pain I go through around here, NOT.
Talk to y'all later. Hubby is at work and has just e-mailed me and I have to reply.
Have a great day,
Karen
oh whatever you want it to! Usually that person tries to keep everyone motivated, maybe comes up with some "challenges" for everyone! They might challenge everyone to add 10 minutes to their workouts or to come up with healthy snack ideas to share or drink 8 glasses of water a day. Whatever! Just fun, new things to try. There are no rules about it.
So for my weigh in. I am sad to say that I am BACK over 150 again. (150.4) Oh well I felt skinny yesterday at 149 LOL! But I am acutally surprised I dont weigh more because I sort of got off track after last weekend. Tomorrow is DH birthday, so htat might be a bit of a challenge. I am only keeping a small cake at home. I might make one for him to take to work. They are like children there. It is the tradition to bring in treats for your own birthday (like in kindergarten... lol!)
goals:
1. back to journaling
2. water! 64 ounces daily!
3. exercise 4-5 days. Get in some more running outside if the weather cooperates
4. Dont let my emotions influence my eating!!
Sure! I'd be willing to give it a go. Y'all will have to give me pointers along the way. Let me know when where and how long....
Yikes! Up 1.2 pounds from last week. I know I was bad last weekend, but I didnât think I was THAT bad. Dieting is so hard.
Welcome Diana, and congrats on the 69 days you have gone without a cigarette. What an accomplishment!
Back to work. It has been sooooo busy the last few weeks. Work has really been interfering with my CC time. ![]()
Carol
Welcome Diana and CONGRATS on the quiting smoking (wanna talk to my dad I've been begging for over 20 years
) that is a great accomplishment!
Ok, so I know I don't do the weigh ins BUT I went to Old Navy the other day and bought myself some capri's and they were a SIZE 6!!! I haven't seen that size in ummm a LOOONG time prechildren heck premarriage! Now I realize Old Navy's sizing is screwing (one of my friends bought a 10 and they fit perfectly then had something else in an 8 and they were loose) so I know not to get my hopes up BUT it was still nice to purchase 2 items w/ a 6 on them!
I hope everyone has a great day and stays on there goals! I probably won't get to workout this am BUT I am going to pick up dog food today and that's 20lbs that I don't normally carry (plus having 2 kids attached to my hip)...
Karen, As long as you're trying, does weighing really matter? Keep up the good fight!
Merissa, Excellent goals! I know you can do it!
Carol, Maybe try to think of it as lifestyle adjustment instead of dieting.
Connie, Tell your dad about Chantix. That's the ONLY thing that worked for me. I am so happy to be quit! Now if I can just get into the exercise grove, we will be good to go.
Katie, .2 lbs counts! I hope you get to feeling better soon!
I'll pass on a favorite saying of mine-
"Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the little voice at the end of the day that says I'll try again tomorrow."
Great quote, Diana!
I just get so cold in the mornings and forget to weigh before I get dressed in the bedroom (the only room we are keeping the heater on in).
Well, we went to the Cheesecake Factory for lunch and I only ate half of my lunch and then skipped the dessert. It did not hurt that they want over $6 for a piece of cheesecake. I told my supervisor that I could make an entire cake for that. I won't pay the prices they charge for desserts in restaurants.
Diane, do you mean you'd like to be cheerleader this week?????? That would be great!
Karen, I like your determination. Want to throw some my way??? What are all these prezzies you're getting?? Is it your birthday? I think I missed something!
Susan, haven't heard from you for a few days. We're missing ya!
Katie, well done on your loss!! The rest of us had better get out butts into gear!
Connie, isn't it great when you can get into a smaller size - even if sizings might be a bit out - it's still encouraging!
I didn't start my week off very well. I had a cake to do, and I was up till 3am working on it, then got up again at 7 to get the kids to school and worked most of the day on the cake. I was so exhausted when I delivered it, that the kids and I went into town and got take-away for our dinner.
I know I'm not part of this but I wanted so much to say that if you ask me, you all are doing so good! THere are so many people out there that should be trying (I'm guilty) but don't take the time to do so! Go for it! I'll be rootin' for each of you~
Hi All~
Whew, finally a moment! It's just been one of those weeks...
Thank you so much to everyone for supporting me on this journey (one trip I wish I didn't need to take!), I really appreciate it. I'm encouraged and if I can do what I've done 3 more times, I'll be where I want to be! And Connie...I imagined your sparkly congrats, thank you!
Welcome to Diana! Booger (really it's Booger?!), feel free to hang out with us anytime!
I walked 45 minutes last night, it about killed me, my feet were throbbing when I got back home. My friends and I celebrated a birthday at a restaurant a few months ago and the the cutest waiter ever asked for my white cake recipe. I emailed it to him and he called me this week because he needed American measuring cups and couldn't find unsalted butter. I took these things to him at the restaurant last night...I live on the edge of downtown and parking is impossible and the restaurant is in the middle of downtown, so I decided to walk. I was trying a new way because I thought it'd be shorter, but surprise! My feet hurt so much I took 800 mg of ibuprofen last night after laying in bed an hour and not being able to sleep! I definitely need some exercise where I don't lift my feet, like a crosstrainer. Anyway, that's my sad story.
Congratulations to all who've lost, we're in this game to lose!!
I hope you have a great weekend!
Morning all!
Booger, feel free to join us at any time. It is so nice of you to just come on to make such a nice comment. Thank you. ![]()
Susan, I am so sorry that you are having troubles with your feet. This will get better, too. You are doing a fantastic job! ![]()
Sonya, we had Administrative Professionals Day on Wednesday here. Most places don't give real gifts, just take a secretary to lunch, if that. Hubby's office had a luncheon for their clerical people but Hubby didn't get a sandwich. I guess that people were taking more than their share to begin with instead of making sure everyone got one before going back for seconds. He ended up with some chips and a cupcake, which he said was ok, but he appreciated because it was homemade and somebody went to the effort to bring it.
We have about 20 probation officers and three supervisors here and every year they take a collection up to show that they appreciate what we do for them. I also got some cash and yesterday I bought a pair of jeans. I bought a size 10 but should really have gone down at least one size more, I think.
Today we are having what they refer to as "Black and Gold Day," where we all wear black and gold to support the sports team that is in the playoffs. The Pittsburgh Penguins. I am not really an fan, but I do like to participate in the county employee functions.
I am going shopping tomorrow and will probably find myself at least one new top, maybe another pair of jeans.
Anyway, I digress. I just wanted to check in about my weigh in this morning. I was down a pound, so I am happy about that. ![]()
You all have a great day!
Karen
WOW! Congrats Karen! I haven't been in a size 10 since middle school. But that's ok.....I will be smaller soon....
Susan, the feet thing will improve. Do your hands swell as well?
Since I don't work in the "real" world (dh terms) I had forgotten about admin pro day....oh well
Good luck all....don't foget the H2O and the 30 mins of cardio!
Susan ~ glad you could imagine my sparkly congrats.... and I'm sure the feet thing w/ get better the more you do it (?)
Karen wahooo on the size 10 (now you are in the world of never finding your size because everyone else is a 10 also - at least that was always the problem I had to deal w/) hehehe..
Booger - your name made me laugh that is what my kids and I call my youngest brother. Thanks for the words of encouragement.
My dad had tried that chantix (I'm pretty sure that was the name is started w/ a 'cha') BUT you have to WANT to quit there enlines the problem he doesn't want to. Funny thing is even my 4 year old daughter tells him they are gross and he doesn't need them and tries to throw away his packs of cigarettes HEHEH.
I wrote myself out a to do list today b/c I need to bake for my cousin's confirmation cake but I WILL NOT skip working out especially now that I have false hope w/ the fluke sizing thing. Even if it is a fluke it's nice to say that I have a smaller size in my closet!
Alright girls I know it's friday which means the eve of our slacking off ~ Lets hope we make it thru the weekend strong and steady.... (I will need lots of thinking about what I'm doing - we are taking the kids tot he zoo tomorrow then my cousins confirmation lunch on Sunday ACK behave Connie behave)
Well, today is a public holiday, so the kids were all home and it rained all day. By late afternoon they were getting a bit hyperactive after being cooped up all day, so I picked a time where I thought the rain had stopped and we went out...I walked and the boys rode their bikes, but we hadn't gone far when the rain began again. I walked for about 45 minutes, and came home saturated, but it felt good to get some exercise and the boys loved it!
Well done Karen, you're on the way down!
Susan, you did a great job walking all that way!! I thought you were going to say the cute waiter asked you out!!
Welcome Booger, feel free to join us if you want!!
Good morning. I was back under 150 today! Yea! The only reason I really weighed in again is because today is my weigh in for calorie king! But I was happy anyway. I went for a jog with my friend again last night. For some reason we were both struggled a bit more this time. We had to walk for a couple short spurts. I was aching last night, but it felt good to me. Today I feel fine.
Susan: Hmmm this waiter thing sounds interesting. Are you sure he isnt making excuses to see you?!?! ![]()
maybe you need some better shoes?
I am just tired of wearing left over size 12's. I think I might be a little old for hand-me-downs by now. Besides, I am just a bit tall for the petite sizes I have in the closet. Certainly time to start cleaning out the closet now. My jean size is larger than my trouser size. I wore a size 10 jeans easily at 9 months pregnant, so really this is a let down.
I prefer the 6's and 8's I've been buying in trousers. I might have been able to squeeze into the size 8's in these jeans. I can't believe the difference in these sizes anyway. Is there no standard for the clothing industry? ![]()
Quick question....
Just did my first "offical" workout. (the whole time too!) Is one supposed to feel very (very) hungry afterwards? I could sure go for a big fat juicy (really unhealthy) cheese burger....
I feel so naive...
DH just informed me that we are going on a "date" for lunch at my favorite place. (chinese) This should be interesting!
Thanx for the quick response!
Hey everyone....Welcome Diana!!!
You can tell when I'm not really trying because I'm absent. I want to be good. My eating hasn't been terrible but my lack of exercise is not cool.
I am taking a kind of spontaneous trip to Vegas with a good friend so I'd like to shed a few lbs before then!
Diana - congrats on quitting smoking. It is not easy. I did it 5 1/2 years ago and it is one of the best decisions I have ever made.
Susan - 24 lbs is awesome. You are doing such a great job. I wish I could be as disciplined as you have!
Hope everyone had a good week and has a good weekend!
Oh yeah, I weighed myself Thurs....maintained surprisingly. Now I need to get back on track to see those #'s fall.
Ya'll are cracking me up!! I'm pretty sure the waiter isn't interested in anything more than an American cake recipe
. I think he's at least 20 years younger than me and not that there's anything wrong with that...I just don't think this is the case here!
It's funny, because even at my "advanced" age of 48, I still have hope that Mr. Right-for-Me will come along!
Casey, good for you for maintaining; I feel your lack of exercise pain, it's really my biggest challenge. I wish I had the kind of financial resources to have a home gym, I keep thinking how great that would be. Don't be absent because you're not doing what you plan to do! Be here, and we'll support you to do what you plan to do...
Diana, I think you'll find that in the beginning, you may be a bit hungry...I promise you you'll feel better as time goes on and your stomach and brain readjust to your new calorie intake. And actually, exercise will eventually help you feel less hungry. AND...remember if you exercise, take into account how many calories you burned during that exercise, you can eat a little more if you want to.
Katie, yay for you! That's great about your loss!
Karen, sounds like you've been very successful...it must be all that walking! Congratulations on being able to fit into new sizes, I'm waiting for that day.
Merissa, I know being under 150 is important to you and you've accomplished that! With as many cakes as you make, I don't know how you do it. I do know that you look great in your photos.
Connie, good for you on the new size too! It always feels good to be in a new size. And remember, Karen's right, there are no strict standards for clothes manufacturers, so a 6 from one company might be a 10 from another. You look great in your photos as well.
Sonia, what Australian holiday was it yesterday? It was an Italian holiday on Friday as well to celebrate the founding of the republic. It was a beautiful day, so good for the Italians. It's amazing here today also, looks like we're in store for a gorgeous weekend.
A brief, boring word about my feet. Maybe they'll get better as I lose weight, but I'm not confident that will happen. I've had multiple foot problems for over 20 years. I wear a size 5 (yes, 5), have very wide feet and high arches. Everything hurts. The cheap shoes hurt, the $300 shoes hurt. I've had surgery and need it again. I wear shoe inserts, take 500mg of ibuprofen daily, ice them 4 times a day, stretch 4 times a day, and wear braces at night. That's why I can't do the treadmill, I can only do things like the elliptical trainer where you don't lift your feet. All my wonderful friends know how bad they are and are very patient when either I have to stop to rest because every step hurts or when I need to sit and have them come back for me. OK, so not so brief! I have an appt with a new podiatrist when I visit San Antonio next month, it'll be interesting to see what he thinks.
Talk to you soon my friends!
So sorry about your foot problem, Susan!! I trust it eases a little as you lose weight! The public holiday here was ANZAC day, standing for Australian/New Zealand Army Corps, so it's a day set aside to remember those soldiers who died at war.
Casey, a trip to Vegas sounds so exciting! When do you go??
Well, the boys and I went for another walk today, and got caught in the rain again! Winter is really starting to set in here. Up until yesterday the weather had been really mild.
Well good day everyone. I am glad I checked in because I must have missed the notification.
Yesterday was DH birthday and I made a very nice meal, drank wine with friends and of course ate yummy cake. I didnt care! The cake was so good people. lol! oh well! I don't regret it. yet.
So sorry about your feet susan. Sounds more serious than bad shoes I guess
.
Well don't worry about me if I don't check in much for awhile. for some reason my monitor isnt working
. I am using DH laptop, but come monday, it goes back to work with him! boo. I may go through withdrawls, but maybe I should clean the house more, play with the kids more, or exercise more. There are other things I can do with my free time! Really there is. Really. Really. (I am talking myself into it!)
Susan,
So sorry to hear about your feet. It must be hard since almost everything requires some sort of walking. Hope the new podiatrist can help when you see him.
I think the walking has stopped helping and I do need to add some other sort of exercise to my routine. I am planning on joining another 10,000 step challenge, only this time I am going to make it a 20,000 step challenge. I already do over 10,000 in a day. Hubby and I walked almost 9 miles yesterday.
Everyone have a great Sunday! Not sure if I will get a chance to check in again today.
Karen
