Merissa, I think it's most important to post when you're not doing well because then you get support and can get back on track. It never, never, never bothers me to be in front of people who are eating or to hear what they've eaten. Really. I can choose to eat as much of any food any time I like...I'm just choosing not to right now. I'm not tortured by it at all. I went to our clinic's dessert social Wednesday and spent more than an hour about 5 feet away from a table laden with every imagineable dessert, I just chatted with people. My goal of weight loss is important and I know it is for you too. Falling off the wagon, pigging out...that's life! It shows we have flexibility and aren't so rigid in our behavior! I think it's a positive thing as long as it doesn't interfere with our lives. That's what my weight has done, it's interfered with my life. I've felt embarrassed, hopeless, and low energy until I found this group! This is a long way to say...post!

Well I am so DARN (and that is not the word I am using in my head) frustrated. I worked so hard and did so well this week while out of town, making good food choices and working out EVERY day while gone. I gained the 2 pounds back that I lost last week.

I JUST DONT GET IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ah well, this is another week and I will be changing up my work out routine. Perhaps I just need to do something other than the treadmill for my cardio.

Casey have a great time, and I love Alan Jackson too.

Sonia, so glad things are working out for Kalan and that your routine will be back to normal. Now do I remember right that you had two with the same problem? If so do you need to go thru this again, or can you do it at home since you have already been thru it?
Great job on maintaining!!

Susan I leave for Harrisburg PA on May 14th.

Merissa dont go away just because you are not doing well, we are here to cheer you on and give you the push you need when sliding.

Karen great job as cheerleader!

Ok gotta run do some work I have a seminar in Phoenix this morning.

Thanks for the vote of confidence about being cheerleader, everyone! I was wondering if I had really helped anybody.

Merissa, you need the support most when you are not doing so well, so you should definately post at those times. I don't mind hearing that somebody is having a hard time with food or exercise. That is what we are here for.

I'm very glad to hear about Kalan, Sonia. Good to hear it all worked out well for you. We are celebrating mothers day on Sunday. I am trying my first pillow cake for my mom. I also did my first fondant roses and they cam out pretty well.

Well, I am off today so I can get a mammogram. I can't remember ever having one before and I hear it is rather painful. Not really looking forward to it but I guess it is something I have to do.

Have a great day, everyone! I will check in later. BTW, I am up one pound this week. I've got to figure out what is going on with me. I think I have a pretty good idea, anyway.

Hey Everybody!

It's been a very busy last few weeks for me, and haven't had time to get on the computer much. That and it's been so beautiful outside, tha tI didn't want to come inside and sit at my computer desk. icon_smile.gif
I've been doing great the past few weeks, and I feel soooo much better about myself lately. I went clothes shopping last weekend, and even though I haven't gotten into a smaller size, I just FEEL smaller. I like it icon_biggrin.gif
I graduated from culinary school last week, so I am away from all those temptations, which is a blessing. It's so much easier to eat better when you're not around food ALL day. (Susan, I don't know how you were by that dessert table all that time and didn't give in...you should be swelling with pride!)

Connie ~ Congrats on the new neice! My baby brother was just born about 2 months ago(making me really a big sister to seven kids), and there's just something special about new babies!

I haven't caught up on reading all the posts yet, but congratulations to everyone who has lost weight!

Susan - You should be so proud of yourself. I could never be by a dessert table and have nothing. That's too funny, Canada would be quite a ways to travel on a bike.

Karen - Good luck with the mammo. My son's teacher said it wasn't as bad as she thought or they had some new equipment...I dunno, hope it's not too bad for you.

Merissa - I know how you feel. That's why I'm only here once a week (for weigh in). I don't want to come complain about how fat I am when I'm not even trying but keep saying I will.

BigSis - Congrats on graduating school. How exciting! Do you have work lined up or have plans for the near future? Sorry but you'll have to remind me of your name....I'm so bad at names.

Alright so here goes...instead of me catching up it is catching up with me. +4 lbs. I knew this was coming....all that maintaining didn't make sense. I'm seriously going to try to start focusing, I can't do this fluctuating anymore. Grrrr. I'm mad at myself.

So my goals are

1. eat right
2. drink my water
3. ride my bike and work on strength training.

What page is the cheerleader dates on, I forgot to save my date and have no idea when it's my turn.

Michelle, I feel your pain, I'm so sorry! Are you eating too few calories? If you are, your metabolism starts to hold on to what you have in order to conserve and not enter starvation mode. Don't give up! I'm up 2 pounds today, it's frustrating isn't it?

Karen, I hope your mammies survived the gramming...I've had several, while I would choose to spend my time that way, I never thought they were horrible.

Bis Sis (I need a name reminder too!), that's great about graduation! Where will you be working? Do you specialize in a certain type of food?

Casey, you're lucky to have that new bike, I hope it brings you so many hours of riding pleasure, you forget that you're burning calories!

Happy Friday all, I'm very ready for the weekend...

Good morning all!

I survived the test. It was rather uncomfortable but it was over quickly so it was not too, too bad. Seems like there should be an easier way, though.

Back at work today, unfortunately. I did forget my keys this morning and had to wait for somebody else to let me into the office. Unfortunately the only place to wait was in the donut shop down the street. You guessed it, a cream filled one.

Well, it's about that time and I have to get some work done. Talk to you all later!

Sorry that I have been MIA ~ Congrats to everyone who has lost and to those deciding to get back on the horse again!!!

and WAHOOOOO on Kalan being able to only see one thing not 4!

Well, the reason I have been MIA is b/c I have been scrapbooking out my BUTT! I did 32 pages for my daughter scrapbook in 3 days right before my neice was born and I finished her 1st year album Monday. I got from her first Valentine's day to her first birthday (her bday is November) in 5 days I was PROUD of me! I realize she's 4 BUT I need to complete my son's 1st year album THEN I'll just do a combined album for them from now on. I got 26 pages of my sons album done yesterday my leg/back/knees STILL hurt from sitting on the floor BUT so worth it to get so much done in one day! I HATE being behind and I WILL catch up!

So needless to say w/ all of this scrapbooking I have not exercised in like 2 weeks. I was doing OK on my food until yesterday BUT in my defense I THINK it's that time of the month for me (I have an iud so I don't actually have the Aunt flow part BUT I stil get the moods/cravings)... Now just to stay away from the chocolate.

OK everyone I have a small challenge:

Give us just one little tip, trick, or piece of advice you know that has worked for you or helped you on this journey. Mine is:

In order to not feel overwhelmed with food choices and time, on the weekends I prepare and pre-pack my breakfasts and a portion of my lunches. I fix 5 tupperware containers of steel cut oatmeal and prepare another 5 containers of precut fruit, 2 pieces of bread in sandwich bags, and 5 little containers of 2 tblsps of Miracle Whip. I don't feel, for me, this is too rigid. If I change my mind one day and don't want that stuff for lunch, I just eat it on the weekend.

What's your advice?

Thanks Susan it is just a day to day thing. I got on the scale for my Friday weigh in for SP and was only up .4 now....go figure.

Karen, Glad it wasnt too bad for you. I have an ample chest so while they are uncomfortable I didnt find them excruciating like some do.

OOOHHH I love to scrap book, but I have NO time to do that. especially now that I am back in school

OK gotta run we are short handed here in the office.

Good Morning!

Thank you all for the congratulations! Now that school is over, I'm really wanting to focus on getting my cake business/bakery rolling. So I've been doing a lot of reading on the Cake Business Forum. That's the plan, anyway.

Here's my 'tip' I guess:
I like to always brush my teeth after I eat anything, or keep a stick of minty gum in my mouth, and for some reason that just really deters me from eating anything I shouldn't in between meals. Might not work for everyone, but it works for me!

Congrats Beth!

My tip would have to be track what you eat. I have found that when I track on SP and see the numbers I really have to think hard do I really want what I am about to put in my mouth? If I do that the numbers go up and I may not be able to eat what I want for dinner.

Michelle, I hear you on that one. I sometimes really dislike tracking what I've eaten because it just makes me feel worse, but next time, I'm more likely to think about it before I put it in my mouth. Because I guess I've learned that whether I count it or not, it still "shows up" somewhere (primarily on my hips!).

Hi all! I had an interesting Mother's Day. My DH was sick, so I went away for the day and left him in bed! He did get up for a bit to make me some pancakes for breakfast, then I went off to church (I'm the musician, so I can't miss it!) then I took the kids to see my Mum.

Susan, my tip is don't eat after dinner. I find I can have a biscuit or a piece of cake or something during the day, but I can still lose weight if I stop eating after about 7. So you've had foster kids, ey??? How many years did you do that for?? My sister has 5 kids of her own, plus 2 foster kids. She is extremely busy, but loves it! She just finds that the real parents are favoured and get all the rights.

Merissa, we still want you to post, you too, Casey! I actually miss people when they're away. We all have our ups and downs, and lately I've had more downs than ups, so I don't mind hearing about your downfalls.

Michelle, yes, I have another son with dyslexia, and he will do the programme in September. I wish I could just run it at home with him, but they used a special machine and special glasses and kept interchanging the lenses, etc. I would love to have done them both this time, but it was too expensive, and very intense. The hardest part was choosing which one would do it first, knowing that the other one was still suffering!

Beth, its great to hear you're doing well with your eating, and congrats on graduating!! Does that mean there are 8 kids in your family??????

Casey, I'm not sure which page the cheerleader dates are on, but you are down for 29 May. I won't repost it yet, because there are so many changes happening!

Connie, well done on all the scrapbooking! I love craft, but I'm afraid scrapbooking is one thing I just can't get into! I run a craft group on Wednesdays for the ladies of the community, and half a dozen ladies bring along their scrapbooking. It's interesting watching the pages coming together!

Well, I'm taking my kids on an outing to see some cousins today, so I'd better get going. Have a great day everyone!

I hope everyone had a great Mother's Day!

Sonia, what a busy life you have! Mother, chauffeur, wife, crafter, nurse (to your kids!), cake decorator, musician, church member...whew! In answer to your questions, I had 2 foster children on separate occasions, for a short time, about 20 years ago, for a total of 2 years. One is now 29 and the other is 24 and a mother to two herself. I'm looking forward to moving back to Texas to reconnect with them, they both continue to need "mothering", as both of their mothers are severely mentally ill and substance abusers. I might foster again, I enjoyed the experience.

How was everyone's weekend? No matter what you did or didn't do, no matter what you ate, no matter if you exercised or not, today's a new day, right now's a new minute, and you can start again. You're not starting "over"...you're starting again. We each have the opportunity to start again anytime we want to. Let's remember that so that poor choices don't become poor habits or an excuse to go wild. You're in control. It feels good to be in control, when you're controlling food and it's not controlling you. Let's do it!!

I went to the once a month antique market yesterday....sigh...of course I found a gorgeous piece, one of those big square pieces with the tiny drawers. This one was beautiful...wood, with 40 small pull-out drawers, each drawer had a double compartment and there were 2 larger drawers at the bottom. I was thinking what a wonderful place it would be for my frosting tips and little craft supplies. It was 600 euros, I haven't checked the rate today, but that's a bit over $1000 I think. Ahhh...to dream!

Have a great day!

Start AGAIN.

Morning all!

Hope everyone had a nice mother's day. I was, as usual on days like these, just running around from one parent to the next.

I did have a nice visit with my mother and father and one sister, her husband, and three girls.

We were able to have a nice visit because my brother wasn't there dredging up the dreaded politics and making my younger sister mad. Even the kids were decently behaved, which I've never seen.

On the down side my two older sisters didn't come by at all and my brother had to go to work. It upsets me that the siblings living the closest don't go to visit my mother on occasions like this.

Well, I'd better go to get ready to start work. Have a great day, all!

Good moning everyone.

I am not a mother, but I tried to call my sister and my step mom but both were out I assume they were taken to dinner!!! We had spent the day with DBFs mother on Saturday took her to lunch and to shop for her gift, she was going to be gone on Sunday. We then stayed for dinner and DBFs brother and his family came over we had a good time as usual!

I ate too much but Im ok with that. It doesnt happen that much any more not like before when it would be every day I would over eat!!!

Well I am looking at another trip coming up. I leave on Wednesday for Harrisburgh PA. Kind of scared about it, it will be tough since all three nights we will be eating with our customers and they dont choose good places to eat so the choices will be slim. The hotel does not have a fitness center either so will be doing the DVD in my room. I am looking forward to the challenge, but still a bit concerned since the last trip I ended up gaining even though I ate well and worked out every day while gone.

Happy Monday to everyone.

Sonia ~ Actually there are seven of us... I know, the way I wrote that was kind of confusing. I'm the oldest, and then 5 of them are 6 and undr. Whew, they keep me busy too! I find that so interesting that you are the musician at your church...because I am the 'back-up' piano player at mine. (The main one is my grandma! icon_smile.gif

Happy Belated Mother's Day to everyone!!! I got up earlier than usual yesterday morning to make everyone pancakes for breakfast...and I ate my Special K and a banana. icon_smile.gif We had a nice day though. My mom definitely needed that day of recognition!

My mom bought a few cartons of ice cream yesterday, and my BF was over and asked if I wanted some Mint chocolate Chip (my FAVORITE). Of course I said no, but he kept almost insisting that I eat some! He thinks I'm crazy or something that I'm trying to lose weight/be healthier, he say's I'm perfect just how I am. (Which is so sweet, but I know better icon_smile.gif ) He's the most fit person I know, so I always feel more pudgey when he's around, my self-consciousness kicks in I guess. It took me a long time just to eat when he's in the room. I'm getting a lot better now though.

I'm done rambling icon_smile.gif

Katie, it's great to have you back. I was starting to wonder about you! Well done on completing the 12K!!

Michelle, these trips are certainly keeping you busy! Hope it goes well for you!

Merissa, I had naughty left-overs yesterday too. You know what I did?? I ate the lot! That way they're out of the house and now I have nothing to tempt me!! Today is a new day!

Karen, it's sad when siblings don't show their care for your Mum. I have one in the family that's like that.

Susan, that antique you found sounds like something that my sister would just love!!!!

Well, today my kids went back to school, and I'm feeling free again. I haven't had a day to myself in about 3 weeks, and I'm really needing it! Awww that is so sweet to surprise your mom! Sounds like it really meant a lot to her!

Congrats on the 12K katie! Excellent! I REALLY plan on doing the 5K in June. I flaked out last year.

I did some gardening today. It was actually kind of fun. Usually I don't like it because I don't know what I am doing. I want nice landscaping, but I just dont know how to do it. It is always overwhelming. Too many choices and I am worried about making mistakes. So I usually end up not doing anything. So I took on a small task of doing a couple of flower beds. So far they look cute. we will see if I can keep it all alive. I do not have a green thumb. I forget to water...I hate to weed...I hate to rake....I don't fertilize enough...

Well I better get the kiddos to bed. I need some quiet time. nite nite!

Katie, wow, that's impressive about your 12K! You'll get back down to where you were, especially with those habits!

Michelle, it sounds like you have a good plan for your travels, even though the arrangments aren't what you would choose. I swear, I think half of this battle is just being flexible and having alternatives. Like if I get really really really mad or upset about something, I would always eat, it was a comfort. I can still choose to do that, but I don't, I now find an alternative activity such as reading or talking to a friend or even having a healthy snack. Afterward, I don't feel "double bad", once for whatever upset me in the first place and twice for having eaten junk.

OK, we're finished with Mother's Day, now we need to prepare for Father's Day on June 15! What kind of healthy alternative would you choose for that holiday that maybe you did or did not choose for MD? Let's be prepared!

Start AGAIN.....AGAIN...AGAIN....AGAIN....AGAIN

Morning all!

Susan, of course for Father's Day, I will not eat out at a restaurant and then go straight back to my mother's house and have to eat something again.

I think I may also cook at my parent's house.

I am starting again this week. I am starting something new. I am eating small "snacks" every three hours. Yesterday went well. I had a tortilla for breakfast before leaving for work. I know, not the best choice, but it is what I had at the time. For a morning snack 3 hours later I had two figs, for lunch I had a peanut butter sandwich, then 3 hours later I had a dinner of chicken curry and rice and some zucchinni and some yellow squash from Whole Foods. I ended the day up on the low side of my calories but I did not have the carbs that Sparkpeople recommends and my percentage of fat and protien were more.

I did buy myself some low fat granola and some bars for my snacks to make it easier to do this.

Katie, it is good to see you back. Congratulations on the 12K!

Well, I'd better go for now. Gotta get ready to go to work.

Sonia, yep my trips sometimes keep me hopping. Now with school I will be extra busy and have a lot on my mind!!

Casey how sweet of your to visit your mom. It sounds like it was very nice.

Susan I agree about having alternate plans all the time. Flexible is important as long as you are not so flexible that you go off plan.

Ok gotta run.

Since I will be leaving tomorrow I will miss weigh in, if the hotel has a fitness center then they usually have a scale there, if so I will weigh in there, if not then next week.

Off to work!

Hi Everyone~
We don't all have access to the same type or brands of food, I realize. But...if you're an avocado fan, I found a really good pre-made guacamole in the frozen food section, Avo-King brand (cheesy, I know). Anyway, you defrost it in the refrigerator or in a water bath, the only thing is it says to consume it within 2 days...I had mine over 3 and it was fine. It's relatively low cal; 2 tablespoons=1 serving for 40 calories and 3 gms fat, but 2 tablespoons is a good size. So, I've been having like 5 servings, which is a lot, but it only equals 200 calories and 15 grams of fat. I cut up a small sized whole tomato, add a squirt of lemon juice and spoon it into pita bread. Deeee-licious!!

Anyone else have particular foods that they like?
