Doing well, ladies!!
I have a big day today, but just HAD to turn on my computer to tell you I've reached a milestone!!! I'm SOOOOO excited!! Here is Australia we work in kilograms, and today I am under 70 kg. I've been aiming for that, and haven't been under 70 in a few years, so I'm very excited. In lbs, I'm down to 154.1, so a loss of .9 since my last weigh in.
Merissa, I don't know HOW you can run that far! I'M NOT A RUNNER!!
yay for you!! That's so great, Sonia! What's your reward going to be??
To be honest, I was not a runner either! A few years ago I couldnt even run a mile. And up until a few months ago I never thought I would run more than 3 miles. I am actually enjoying it, looking forward to getting outside on my own, with my own thoughts! I won't be able to work out much this week because my DH is out of town until thursday. I feel a little anxious about that. I'll have to figure out what I can do at home.
Wow Merissa, that is a long way to run. I can barely lightly jog for 2 minutes at a time. But then running is not a favorite so I dont try too hard to do better. I think since it is now in you, you wont loose the desire to run. Just keep busy, perhaps dancing with the boys around the house?
YEA Sonia that is great!!! I am so happy you are doing so well. Any and all loss is wonderful!
I did do my 10 minutes last night. I sure didnt want to, but I did it anyway! When I was done I felt good about myself. Not sure if I will get it in tonight. I have a dinner after work today so wont get home until later. But it is only 10 minutes, I can fit that in before bed right?????
I got up and did my WATP DVD, using a weighted belt and my hand weights. It was a jogging interval workout. I have noticed when I do the jogging ones I dont burn as many calories as I do when I do just the walking ones. Why would that be do you guys think???? I was hoping that with the jogging intervals and the extra weights I had I would have burned a lot of calories this morning to off set what I will not get in tonight. Oh well......
Have a great day everyone!
How do you know how many calories you burned? Does the DVD just give you and estimate?I am not sure why you would burn less jogging. I think I would base it on how tired you feel. Sometimes I think the calories burned is not that accurate on the treadmill/bike/machines etc. I once was walking at about 3.5 MPH on the treadmill and it said I would burn 250 calories and hour, but when I bumped it up to 3.6 MPH suddenly it said I would burn 499 calories an hour. You cant tell me that walking an extra .1 mile would make me burn 2x as many calories! I just think if I am sweaty and tired...that's good enough for me to know I burned some calories!
I used to know why you burned more walking than jogging, but I can't remember. Check on Sparkpeople, I bet they have the answer.
Finally am able to get the Internet in. We are using wireless, and we are picking up the free wireless from the marina across the way.
Glad to hear everyone is doing so well. Keep up the good work, all!
Check back in on you later,
Karen
I have no idea either, Michelle.
Karen, free wireless!!! Wow! That will save you some money!!!!
I was still under the 70kg this morning, after getting very little exercise yesterday, so feeling good. I'm going to do some weights as soon as I've done the dishes.
I use an HRM to monitor my calorie burn. I love it and have noticed that is usually "says" that I burn more than the machines or using the spark calculators. My HRM used my age, weight and height in the factoring, I entered all of that information when I started using it.
Karen, there must be a reason because this morning I used the weighted gloves and belt again but did one of the walking DVDs and I burned 1 more calorie than I did yesterday doing the jogging with the same weights.
Perhaps just because I HATE running (and jogging is close enough) so much that I feel like I am working just as hard, but in reality I am not.
Karen, great that you are on line now, and I agree using free WiFi will save you a ton!!!
Well off to check SparkPeople to see if I can find the answer to why you would burn more walking than jogging. If I find the answer I will post.
Have a great day everyone!
That's cool. I'd like to have something like that. I am sure a HRM is more accurate than any generic estimate. You must be working harder if you burned more calories, your heart rate must be higher. I really can't think of any reason you'd burn more walking than jogging unless you walked for a longer period of time...however I am learning new things every day!
Actually, I save tons of money, what with the electric, cable, and water added into the weekly rent. The internet is added in with the cable. We had to move the computer from where we had it in order to pull the internet in from the marina while they are working on the internet connection at the apartment.
So does that mean that you have to use the apartment connection when it is hooked up?? Bummer.....better getting it free, I reckon ![]()
I finally have a day at home with NO KIDS!! Yay! They've just had almost 3 weeks holidays, and returned to school on Tuesday. I was out Tuesday and Wednesday, so today is a "getting stuff done" day at home
I'm planning some more brushcutting and a bike ride to the supermarket as part of my execise plan for the day.
I love my HRM and was the best thing that I have bought for workouts.
I did my 10 min workout this afternoon. didnt get in the 30 min one that I would normally do. I talked to my sister, my niece is having man issues and called me, so had to talk to the mom about it. Boy I remember when my first big love ended, felt like the end of the earth!!!
Yea Sonia, it is nice to have the house alone for a change. I get that this summer as he will be camping with friends. I HATE camping so get to stay home and enjoy my time alone!!!
Have a good night everyone
It doesn't matter which connection I use. Either way, I won't be paying more for it. I'm just happy to be able to pull one in. Hubby does have issues with his laptop. It wants to go in and out with that.
I never get the place completely to myself. Hubby is always underfoot. He now wants to move to Seattle to be near our daughter. She is going to have another baby. Hubby says, "I think she was serious about having FIVE!"
How many does she have? My SIL and BIL said they wanted 6! They have 3 now, we'll see....I think they might have another, but I doubt they'll have 6. Their decision of course! ![]()
Got to work out this morning. I feel better having that out of the way. I am starting to feel like I NEED/WANT to exercise rather than feeling obligated to do it.
I am taking my DH on an overnight to a really nice hotel on Saturday. It is a surprise for his 35th birthday (sunday). His mom and dad are coming to babysit. He does know they are coming for the weekend, but he doesnt know that we are going away for the night. I am excited to have a nice evening out. I am not sure when to tell him though! I don't know if I should tell him ahead of time so he can pack or if I should try to pack for him and just tell him we are going out for dinner or something. suggestions?
Go ahead and pack for him and make it a surprise.
Stacy has one and another on the way. The first is just over a year old. She says they are hoping for a boy this time.
Pack for him, then you drive! This way he really has no idea until you pull into the hotel! How fun, have a great time.
Karen, that is frustrating when the connection keeps going out. I had that problem with our old router, we got a new one and I no longer have issues.
I love babies, I dont want any of my own, but I love others. LOL I play with my nephews all the time we have a good time, they are 5 & 2.
I got up and did my morning workout. almost didnt, I turned the alarm off and slept for another 5 minutes. I almost stayed in bed, had to yell at myself (in my head) and rolled my behind out of bed. I felt much better that I did that.
Have a great day everyone!
Well congrats on your new grandbaby on-the-way, Karen!
Congrats Michelle on getting out of bed too! I am almost always glad I did...once I am all done that is! I always set the alarm early so that I can hit the snooze 2x.
As far as my surprise, I think I am going to set our GPS to the address and have him drive and have to follow the directions...mostly because I really don't know how to get there either! LOL I think he's going to figure that we are going to a particular restaurant that we've always wanted to go (it's a fondue place, and kind of expensive. So it has to be for a special occasion) Since we will be driving that way, I think he'll think we will go there. The hotel comes with $50 voucher for food at one of their restaurants, so I think we'll just stay at the hotel instead. But at least I think that will throw him off a little.
Oh that will be good. Keep him guessing and having to follow the GPS!
Love it!
That sounds like a great plan, Merissa!! Love it! I can't plan trips away without telling my DH now, as he can unexpectedly get a diving job 24/7. I would have to tell him in advance so if he gets a call he has to work the job around it.
Congrats on becoming a grandmother again, Karen! You must be excited!!
I have a sister who wanted 12 kids. No kidding! But it ended up she doesn't dilate and has had to have all caesars. She had five, then the doctor said NO MORE! So now she takes in welfare kids. She has 2 permanents at the moment. I take my hat off to her.....I could't do it!!!!!!
One was plenty for me.
I still haven't seen the first grandchild, and I am way too young to be a grandmother. I had my daughter when I was young, right after I was married, because I kenw I didn't want to be 45 and still have a kid at home to take care of. Thing is, I didn't want any but thought my husband did, and he didn't want any but thought I did. I am really not the motherly type, let alone the grandmotherly type.
Hubby wants to move to cold, cloudy Seattle, though, to be close to them.
Merrissa, that is a great plan! I couldn't plan a trip as a surprise because we don't have the money for a trip down the block, let alone to anywhere special.
I love suprises, but my hubby doesnt. We dont have any extra funds this year, we have three planned trips that are gonna be tight to make as it is.
Got up and did my morning workout, even though my tummy doesnt feel the best. I thought I perhaps needed food, but now it feels even worse. HHMM not sure I will make it through they day.
Well I will let you all know how it turned out next week! We are a little better off financially this year than last. Last year a lot of people were laid off at DH work, but my DH joked that he was in the bathroom when they did the lay-offs. LOL We were really careful with money last year, but things feel more secure now. My DH has a good job. He is an engineer for a pretty large company that is headquartered locally. Unfortunately they put a freeze on raises that last few years. But it didn't seem fair to give out raises at the same time they were laying people off...ya know? He got a promotion recently too....but no raise....
LOL We are happy though with what we have.
In other big news...I am now officially down 17 pounds! I think I would be satisfied with 10 more...maybe 15. We'll see.
Thanks, I am excited! I told him last night that I didn't want to give away too much, but that I had something planned for tonight and that his parents were watching the kids. He seemed excited about it
.
146.6 today! I havent seen that in YEARS!!
Wow, you're doing great, Merissa!! Your DH must be pleased ![]()
How was your night away??
I seem to be stuck on the same weight. It's depressing me a bit. So yesterday I started putting in extra effort in my exercising. I rode my bike to the swimming pool, instead of driving, did my 60 laps, then rode home again. I'm not sure how much I can get done today, as I'm babysitting for my sister, but will see how I go ![]()
You are doing great Sonia! That's a lot of exercise!
My husband said he really didn't know that I had put on 25ish pounds. I think when you are tall you can pull it off a little more.
My night away was great! He didn't know where we were going until we got out of the car and I had to get our suitcase out of the trunk! He thought we were going downtown for a show or something. The hotel was very glamourous! We had a nice small room in the historic part of the hotel. They brought us champagne and truffles in the evening and we had a nice dinner and drinks. Only problem was that the walls were not well sound proofed! I think they put everyone that had a "romance package" in the same area. The room next to us came in late and were "knockin boots" VERY loudly. It woke me up a couple of times becasue it went on and on and on! LOL Then in the morning it was the room on the other side...! My husband and I joked that we were in this really fancy hotel, yet it seemed like we were in the red light district! ha. It was really fun though. Oh and I drank a little too much...otherwise....really fun.
OMG that is too funny. At least you didnt let that ruin your good time.
Glad you had a great time Merissa!
Wow Sonia, that is a lot of excersize for one time. But if you can do it GREAT!!! I dont think I could do much after a bike ride!!LOL
I got up and did my morning workout as usual, but this afternoons wont happen. I have dinner with an old friend.
Have a great day everyone!
nah, it didn't ruin it. But it did make it difficult to sleep! We overheard that she couldn't....ahem....and she wasn't very happy about it! He says "well we've been #%$* for 2 hours, so I don't know what to tell ya." Yeah...the walls were that thin
! It was a memorable evening.
It's been a little hard to get back on track this week!
Hope you had a nice dinner with your friend tonight, Michelle!
It's great you were able to keep it a secret till you arrived, Merissa!! Glad you had a good time ![]()
How was your dinner Michelle?? I think you do a grea job doing 2 workouts a day!
I've been getting in plenty of exercise but today I had a cake to do and nibbled on the scraps gain
I'm regretting it now
Especially since I'm supposed to be gluten free and I know I feel so much better when I stick to it.
Oh Merissa that is too funny!! I dont think I could have gotten back to sleep for laughing!! I know it's not a funny situation on their side, but gosh for you to hear it.....LOL
I did have a great time. We ended up at Pei Wei, chinese type. I wanted to go to Daphne's greek food, but they closed down. So now I have to find another greek place to eat.
I got up and did my morning workout, will miss my afternoon one agian since I will be going to my inlaws right after work for dinner to see everyone before I leave for my trip. But then I should be able to get in my afternoon ones tomorrow and Friday before I leave on Sunday.
Sonia, dont beat yourself up too much. It was a slip, you realize how you feel now when you go off your eating plan (notice I didnt say DIET!!) so now you will think twice the next time remembering you didnt feel the best when you did it the last time...right?
Have a great day everyone.
She probably had too much to drink.
Glad you had a great time, Michelle! 2 workouts a day is very ambitious! Where are you going on your trip? is it for work? What do you do again?
Sonia, you said "nibble" so that's probably not too bad! Just keep going. I fall into the trap that if I eat something I wasnt supposed to than the whole day is ruined and I might as well just keep eating. That is a habit I am trying to change!
