Well, I had a birthday last month too, and I'm now 37. It's a bit freaky, really. I have a brother and sister who are older than me, and seeing them and their spouses turn 40 I think is making it easier for me to settle into the idea... probably sounds weird, I know! It doesn't mean I'm any happier about it, though!! Being blonde, I have not discovered any greys yet. My Mum is in her 60's and is still completely brown. She just occasionally find a grey hair. Her mother was the same. She passed away at 94, and hardly had any greys!!!! Maybe I'll take after them....???..... Probably not, though, I get my blonde hair from my Dad and he's completely grey icon_surprised.gif(

One of these days I might come to terms with getting older. Right now it's really bothering me.

it bothers me a little too, but I don't really lose sleep over it. The WEIGHT I lose sleep over! We live in a neighborhood with a lot of people just turning 40. It does make it a little easier to adjust to the idea. Of course I still have 5 years before I am 40! Sometimes though I think it is weird that our friends are 40! I still almost feel like a teenager!

I wish I still LOOKED like I was in my early 20's....oh how I took that for granted. I think there has only been one time in my life that I was excited about the way I looked. About 5 or 6 years ago I went on a diet and was working out, lost about 15 pounds. Considering I had two small children, I thought I was looking pretty hot! I was about 130 pounds then. But then I got pregnant one more time....its been a battle since then!

My DH cousin has recently lost A LOT of weight. She had two kids really close together and was really struggling to take the weight off. When I saw her at Thanksgiving she had lost a lot of weight since I had seen her in the summer (maybe 40 pounds). I didn't ask her what kind of diet she was on, but I gave her lots of compliments about the way that she looked. Anyway yesterday I found out that shes been doing some diet that she only eats 500 calories a day! If eating only 500 calories a day werent enough, she gets hormone injections to force her body to drop the weight. I guess basically since you starving yourself, your body wants to shut off your metabolism so the hormone injections force it to continue dropping weight. I just cant belive this is something that is good for you! You arent really learning how to eat properly and she cant have that much energy. I have to believe she is losing a lot of muscle along with the fat. It will be interesting to see if she is able to keep it off for the long term. I think it's crazy. You can't be happy only eating 500 calories a day!! I do realize that losing weight quickly (especially in the beginning) keeps you motivated. but geez!

Sounds dangerous to me. And expensive. I guess you have to ask yourself if it is worth it. Maybe once she reaches goal weight she will be able to see a nutritionist and go on some sort of healthy eating plan. I think I would rather have the surgery than all of that.

I guess I am not sure if she is still on the 500 calories a day or if she is in the maintainence part. My MIL said she would go on an 1800 calorie a day diet to maintain. That part sounds fine. But if you have lost a lot of muscle during your weight loss, it is just going to be easier to gain weight since muscle burns calories, not fat. I read an article saying that when you diet like this you might be getting thinner, but you are getting fatter (meaning that you now have a greater percentage of fat than muscle than you did before). who knows. I hope she's able to keep it off, she was getting pretty heavy before the diet. She look great, but I hope the sacrifice was worth it!

Well I was down about 2.5 pounds this week. I weighed 158 this morning. I was starting to get a little worried this week because it didnt seem like I was losing anymore. This happens every time! I lose several pounds the first few days (probably just the water weight) then my body puts the brakes on and it is such a struggle. But know I am wondering if that is what causes me to give up each time. I think I just need to keep going and try not to get discouraged. I am hoping that it just takes awhile for me to adjust to my new eating patterns. I am happy with 2.5 for the week! So far I am down about 7 pounds total.

You're doing well!! Is that 7 pounds in only 2 weeks?? I've done well with my eating over the weekend, but haven't weighed myself. My DH is dieting again, so that usually inspires me. He does so much better than me! He spent 3 days last week only eating fruit and vegetables, whilst working a very physical job.

About 10 days really. But like I said, I think the first several pounds was just water weight. I had put on 2 pounds between my initial weigh in (two weeks ago tomorrow) and two days later on Wednesday when I actually started! I was horrified, but I had eaten a lot of soup the day before, probably high in sodium!! LOL. I hadnt really thought much about sodium before. I don't have high blood pressure, and I love salty food! But I suppose I don't want to be carrying around a lot of extra water either!

I did well this weekend except that we were invited out to dinner last minute yesterday. For pizza! There isn't a lot else to choose from! So I just had a small piece and order a salad. It kept me pretty busy eating so I didnt eat too much. I am worried I am going to get in "trouble" for going of the plan when I go in there tomorrow! LOL

Glad to hear you did well on your eating too, sonia. It does help to have someone else to do it with. The weekends are the hardest!

I finally started swimming again today. There was just no point over the summer, because the pool is so full, it's like swimming an obstacle course. I always came away frustrated. Today I was the only one in the pool, and I find it very relaxing, even though I'm swimming flat out. I swim 1200 metres each time I go. I'm hoping to go at least twice a week.

That's awesome, Karen! How convenient! Anything you do in a pool is great exercise, as there is greater resistance in the water. I have seen people go to the pool and just walk laps! I've tried it as well, and it's quite hard walking in the deeper parts, when your hands are underwater. I guess the harder it is, the more calories you're burning thumbs_up.gif Sometimes I just hold onto the steps and kick my legs. There's lots you can do even if you can't swim.

So yesterday I was doing a bit of cake sampling and feeling EXTRA guilty about it. So I got up this morning and drove myself to the gym for an extra workout. Actually this is my 2nd extra work out this week. I am pretty proud of myself icon_lol.gif I was at 156.1 this morning (after my workout) I always lose a bit after working out, must be sweating out the pounds. I am getting there. I feel encouraged that it is actually working. I don't know if I am going to be able to lose the 3 pounds a week they said I would, but even 2 consistently would be okay.

Bad news....I am up a pound or two icon_cry.gif . I think it might be water retention, but still, I am very disappointed! I had to go into the weight loss center and I was like please oh please don't let me get called back by this certain employee. Sure enough I gain some weight (about a pound since Friday) but I explain I think I might be retaining a little water weight (due to that time of the month). She is like the food nazi. Journaling your food is required and they look it over each time after you are weighed in. Today she is pointing out that I can't have a 1/2 cup of green peppers, it's a 1/2 of a medium green pepper. She's like "youre probably okay, but since you are stuggling it could be little things like that." I tell her I am just frustrated especially because I ran 25 miles last week too and I still gained weight. She says, "it's not all about exercise." I say, yeah I know but I exercised 6 days last week, AND followed a 1200 calorie diet and I don't think an extra ounce of green pepper should make me gain weight. I feel badly because I think I might have been a little snippy icon_lol.gif I think I just needed someone to say that yes, maybe I have a little water weight and let's just see how things look in a couple of days. NOT squabble over a green pepper and tell me that I did all that exercise for nothing. Sorry....just venting! LOL Hope I am back with better news next time!

How was everyone else's weekend?

Weekend was ok. Same ole, same ole. Lots of work. The days are getting longer. Seems like it's been at least 2 by the time people stop coming in. That means 3 or 4 by the time I'm finished cleaning up and can go home. That's a good 8 to 10- hour work day. And it is just run, run, run, all day.

Merissa, my diagnosis is you have some water weight and will be back to normal shortly....not helped at all by being "that time of the month"! icon_lol.gificon_lol.gif I agree, you wouldn't think a few grams of green pepper will make that much difference! Keep smiling, I know you'll get there!!

Karen, all that running around will be keeping you fit. It's great to hear you're getting extra hours!

I was also up a pound this week, and was shocked. I'm still working on it though!

Hello everyone-
Karen, sounds great that business is picking up again. It's probably nice to have the extra income! Keeping busy always makes the day go by faster too.

Sonia-sorry to hear you gained too. I wish it could always go down, but sometimes it wont. Oh well...we can just keep moving on!

Tomorrow my oldest will turn 9! So I have to make some cupcakes for school. I talked my son into decorating his own cupcakes (for home) instead of me making him a cake. I know...I am terrible. I just didn't feel like the extra work or the extra cake sitting around. Plus we will go out to dinner tomorrow to celebrate and there really isnt anything "healthy" on the menu.

I'm surprised that the school still lets you make cupcakes to take in. I thought most schools wouldn't let home made treats in anymore. I wouldn't worry about the extra pound or two. It is probably water. I know it can be depressing, though.

good job! I think I am down my extra pound too. phew.

Yes, they still let us bring in homemade treats. If there is a child with a peanut allergy in the class they inform us of that and ask us not to bring in treats that have peanuts in them. My son has a girl in his class that is allergic. Last year kids werent even allowed to bring in their own snacks if it had peanut butter or peanuts in it. This year she is in his class again and they are allowed their own snacks (but I don't send him snacks with peanut butter because I don't want to be resonsible!). From my experience with her, she just doesnt eat anything that she doesnt bring in. This year when my son had a birthday and I brought in cupcakes I also brought in a store bought rice crispy treat for her instead. The scholl still serves peanut butter and jelly at lunch sometimes. I wonder how much longer that will last?
