Let me start by telling you that I entered a cake in the AZ State Fair...... This is my first year entering the fair, actually it is my first time entering any kind of contest.......My cake won best of show in it's division...... I have received much recognition for my cake....e mail's and PM's from fellow CC members even from at least one of the judges who chose my cake. It has all been wonderful and much appreciated especially coming from all of you. Then last friday a co worked called me to tell me that they saw a picture of my fair cake on a local news website.... apperantly a total stranged saw my cake at the fair and liked it so much that she decided to post a picture of it in the section where people can post pictures of Arizona events!!!! It was very flattering that a stranger thought that much of my work!!!!! Ok Here comes the SCARY part............. I received a call last night from the marketing department for the AZ State Fair and they want to include me in news segment on that same news station! I think it's a piece on some of the winners...... Their will be others in the peice but none the less I'M SCARED S@#TLESS.......I don't even ever let anyone take my picture let alone video tape me......My family thinks I have to do it...........I would eventually like to make a business out of decorating and it might help, but I'm afraid i'm going to make an A@@ out of myself!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What would you do????????????? Please Advise!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ![]()

Hopefully it's not channel 3, but if it is you won't have to worry about looking silly, their reporters will have that covered! ![]()

of course, you should do it. It's great exposure and you are really talented. Your fair cake was fantastic.

Oh, Honey, if I was you --
First I would call them and say "When do you want to see me?"
I would go to Macy's and buy a new outfit and get a make-over, then shine my pearly-whites for the camera so everyone can see!
If they want to put you on tv, do it. You never know what kind of attention that free advertisement can bring.

I would do it also...don't worry too much, usually those segments are very short anyway, and they should go over what they are going to ask you to prepare you, if not, ask someone what to expect. Relax, you'll do fine.
First....Congratulations!!! What a great award.
Second....competely do the show or whatever they have asked you to do.
Third....after the taping....have a big glass of wine!!!
I think you will do great and I can't wait to hear updates. Maybe if they have a web link of the video. I'm a lot of us would love to see it!
GO FOR IT GIRL!! You can't buy this kind of advertisement!!
I was just up at the fair yesterday, and all that my family could say when they saw your cake was "OMG!! That's a cake??"
You worked hard, and you've earned it. Now, enjoy it!!
Thank you all for your support........I think I'm gonna need some Valume ![]()
Bettycrockermommy......... The last time I saw my cake was 10/12...... a few of my family and friends say it still looks great.............does it still look ok?????? really?????? Now I'm worried about that too because from what they said, they will be picking up my cake and bringing it to the station for this segment...... I have no idea what it looks like now and OMG what if it doesn't make it ![]()

I will be crushed...... I mean after all the thing has been sitting there sence 10/8...... I'm a bit of a neurotic worry wart!!!!!
A good interviewer will put your mind at ease. The best thing to do is focus on the interviewer and forget the camera is even there. Just go with the flow and show your passion for your cakes! (I used to do interviews and anchoring for our college station)..
First of all -- breathe!
Remember that they chose you because THEY LIKE YOUR CAKE! You don't have anything to be nervous about because you know everything about your cake, and your life as a beginning decorator, and that's what they're going to be talking to you about. Just be honeest, sincere, and have fun.
If you're worried about your cake making it to the station, why not ask them if you can pick it up and bring it? Or check out what condition it's in now and see if you can't put together another one if there's time?
Just relax and have fun with this. It's a super neat experience to get to go through. ![]()
And congratulations!!!

I have won several contests at our State Fair for cooking. One that I won first place, was for a recipe using Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing. I got a call from our local T.V. station they wanted me to do a little spot on the news at noon with my recipe. I felt exactly the same as you! I hate that kind of stuff. But, I talked myself into it. Just kept telling myself "I'm a big girl I can do this. My daughters went with me and taped me. I never could watch it. Everyone said I did fine. The whole thing lasted only about 2 minutes. I guess I'm glad I did it. But sure glad when it was over!!!

It still looked great when I was there on Sunday. Like I said before, my family was amazed by it. You are gonna do great.
Ive seen your cake. Wow wow and more wow. Definitely take the advice of the other 50 posters before me and I am sure you will be great!
Advice my mom taught me when talking to an audience:
-Speak loud and clear
-Slow it down, even if you arent used to it
-Smile and find a point of focus. Keep that focus as you interview.
Good luck and I am sure you will be great! You are very talented and deserve all the best! ![]()
Hey Jackie!
You will do AWESOME! I know you're nervous as heck ( as I would be too!!) but like someone mentioned before, you already know everything there is to know about that cake so it will be easy. I'm thrilled for you! What an honor!! I'll be watching!!! ![]()

They had try outs for American Idol here in St. Louis. I asked my 17 year old daughter if she was going to try out this time. She shook her head no with this paniced look on her face. I sat her down and said--- you can go through life saying no to fantastic opportunities and then be like me and be 52 years old with alot of "I wish I had or I should have done". Please don't do this to yourself. She went and tried out. She did'nt make it this time but she got to say she did try. But boy was she excited when she was done and she said it was the best feeling in the world.
Now on to you----you do not want to be my age and say if only I had or I wished I did or I should have.
Please do this for all of us that didn't have the guts or didn't get the opportunity.
It is a great opportunity and boy what it can do for your business!!!!!
Go Girl!!!!
Lu
This is wonderful for you! Congratulations!
Now, onto that whole shying away from cameras stuff.....
Just think about this....There is SO much negative stuff on the news (violent crimes, politics, etc.). Here is your opportunity to bring something positive to the viewers.
Good Luck! Congrats again!
