Don't tease me Tara!! Send it my way!!! I haven't had cane syrup in sooo long. We used to eat it with my nanny's hushpuppies when we had fried fish and grits. Mmmmm.....

Oh you guys are soooo funny! Who are you kidding knox-we'd eat the buttercream-it would never make it to the road!! If you want my recipe Monica I'll give it to you! Tara wants it too so I'm happy to share! Mine isn't as good as the really real stuff you can get in restaurants like in Tampa but I try! Mine is kind of semi-homemade (NOT like the hack Sandra Lee,but I digress...) I love Indian food and Thai too. When we lived in New Orleans we used to go to the best Indian and Thai places.
leily-I take orders Mon-Fri ![]()
dodibug i would love the recipe. You can pm it to me or just post it here.
Thanks ![]()
I am still laughing ![]()
Here it is. You can make it 2 ways-a little healthier is to use boneless, skinless chicken breast or you can use chicken with the skin still on (not as good for you but so yummy and more authentic)
Preheat oven to 350
I start with Vigo yellow rice (for just me, dh and ds I use the small package but they have bigger packs, more family size). Place rice in baking dish that has good fitting lid. Add the water and olive oil indicated on the package. Then I add minced garlic (we love garlic so I add alot but you can add what you like), if I have time I chop onion and cook it till soft and add it to the mix, otherwise I use onion powder, some oregano, a little basil,a couple of bay leaves, mix and then add your chicken. I salt and pepper the chicken and sprinkle with a little Sazon Goya sin achiote (it's a seasoning packet) then I sprinkle the rest on the rice. Cover with the lid and for boneless chik I bake about 45 min for the chicken parts with bone about 1hr 45 min. When making it with the chick with skin the rice comes out wetter but that's ok! After it's done I like to add some frozen green peas and mix in and let set for about 5 min. The peas cook from the heat so you don't have to pre cook them.
For the beans I pretty much follow the recipe on the can of goya black beans. I don't really measure so I use amounts to my taste but here is the regular recipe:
2tbsp olive oil
1/2c onion finely chopped
1/4c green pepper chopped (if I have it I use it,if I don't it no biggie)
2 clove garlic minced
1 15.5oz can goya black beans,undrained
3/4c water (again, I don't measure but you'll figure out what you like)
1tsp oregano
1 packet of the Sazon Goya seasoning
1 tbsp cider vinegar
Cook onion, pepper and garlic in oil until tender. Stir in remaining ingredients. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to simmer. Let it cook down at least 10 min or more depending on how thick you want it.
I usually put my rice down then the bl beans on top and my chicken on the side.
If ya'll try it let me know what you think!

roasted corn grits
okay you got me on this one
We used to go to a restaurant in New Orleans called Zea's and they have this amazing side dish that is roasted corn grits and I found a recipe on-line that is supposed to be a copy-cat version. It turns out pretty good but not the same as the restaurant. You have to roast the corn on the grill and then make the corn grits with chick broth and heavy cream, some salt and pepper. I'll have to keep looking to get it just right. ![]()
Dangit, Y'all--just dangit.
That food sounds SOOO good! I'll bet those grits take a while to do, don't they Dodibug? Mmmmmm. Loves me some grits. I really like shrimp & grits, too--hard to find, unless you're near the low country. They REALLY know how to get it right. ![]()
Brian's Baker: that recipe sounds amazing!
Leily: I'll be flying up there for some of that fresh, icy cold cantaloupe of yours, too--just have me some other Iowa food ready to go with it.
Dalton: Never had Sonny's, but it sounds great and looks good on tv. Ship some of those herbed rolls to me and Leily in Iowa--so we can have 'em with that icy cold fresh cantaloupe. Do it today, 'cause I'm booking my flight right now. ![]()
And last night, I had a cake class. So I cooked a roast in the crock-pot all day. WITH A PACKET OF ONION SOUP. So--my nice clean house is now REEKING of ONIONS.....dang. ![]()
