She got a cake from a bakery for her DS's 1st bday.

Full sheet cake (white almond batter with French buttercream icing) $55
Edible image $10 extra
Fresh pineapple filling $20 extra

Grand total: $85

Does this sound reasonable? High? Low?

A full sheet can serve 100, your friend paid less than $1 a serving. sounds fair to me.

what state/location are you in?

I am in Iowa and with all of that it even sounds like a great deal. Less than a dollar a slice is great!

Are you sure it's a full sheet cake.

Some see 1/2 sheet cakes and think they are full. Could you friend have done that?

I think that it's a great deal even if she was paying for a half-sheet because when you think about the sizing and such, with the fillings, that's still less than what Walmart charges for the same thing... And they're WAY lower than they should be on pricing as it is...

I agree even at 1/2 sheet it's a great deal.

A full sheet it's a steal.

If it's truly a full sheet cake...she got a REAL DEAL!! I just did a 12" round WASC with French Buttercream and just the ingredients (not counting decorating supplies) cost me $30.00.

I asked her if she was sure it was a full sheet and she said yes, but that the bakery told her it would serve 65-75. icon_confused.gif

I also told her that even at 65-75 servings it was only a little over $1 per slice. She said she hadn't thought of it that way and felt better about the price.

The only full sheet I've done had candy tools painted in luster dusts, GM logos and a chocolate transfer of a tow truck and I charged $120. The woman who bought it had already bought cakes from me so she knew my prices.
I live so far from nowhere that I have to travel 2 hours to find a McDonalds in North Dakota.

Wow I am shocked at these prices people pay in other areas. I guess I need to Start a union of cake decorators in MI to get our prices up.

I also think that she got a great deal! In my area of Ohio a 1/2 sheet is 11x15 and full sheet is (2) 11x15's.....a 12x18 is a 3/4 sheet and two of those together is what we call a "Texas Sheet Cake". That will vary from region to region though!

My prices start at $4.25 a person so she got a great deal. Of course, I don't do sheet cakes.

$50 for a 9"x13"? I am moving to wherever you live!!! I would be laughed out of town if I tried to charge that, even with filling and fondant!! I am SO jealous of you guys that can charge like $5 a serving for wedding cakes. My cakes start at $.75 a serving for sheet cakes and go up to $1.25 a serving for tiered cakes. That does not include fondant, filling, or ganache, but even those are only $.25 per serving each, so we're talking like $.75 or so a serving for the most expensive stuff. icon_cry.gif I guess I have to take into consideration that perhaps I pay less for ingredients. Let's hope that's true, otherwise I am really going to bawl!! icon_wink.gif

I'm with you, Melvira, I was feeling a little depressed comparing my prices to what they have been posting! I charge $15 for a 9x13. That's decorated with whatever they want put on it. If I do a picture with alot of detail I will charge $18. Although, I don't feel like my cakes are the quality that would warrant getting $50 for a 9x13. My wedding cakes are priced at $1.25 per serving and they provide the flowers.

I know, I know, I'm in Los Angeles. But here's what my local bakery would have charged:

Full sheet cake $105 for most flavors
Edible image $20 extra
Fresh pineapple $40 extra

Grand total: $165

Serves 75-80 according to their flyer, so that would be $2.20 a slice.

...so sheet and half sheet sizes are different for everyone? I am confused! (surprise surprise!) icon_rolleyes.gif
A 9x13 is a quarter, right?
I was thinking a 11x15 was a half...??? No???
I have made my first sale of an 11x15 , torted, for 30 bucks.
(I told meself I was just gonna do this for fun!)
So I guess I am giving them a good deal, huh? icon_wink.gif
Well, at least they're good friends.
