I put mine up the first week in November. We have one in the living room, dining room, kitchen, and in the playroom/den.
okay, we put ours up before thansgiving this year.....we had some plumbing issues and our bathtub needed some work done on pipes, so we had to cut some of the wall in our front room out....dh wasnt allowed to fix it because it is that old plaster stuff that dust goes everywhere...anyway with all my baking i wouldnt let him mess with the wall for fear of dust getting into my goodies. then he hurt his back and isnt able to fix it, so i put tree up to hid the huge whole in my wall.
usully we put it up day after thanskgiving.
speaking of day after thansgiving...anyone get out in the crazyness and catch some sales???? thats my favorite!!! i got up at 4:30 a.m. saved some money, and enjoyed shopping with out the kids.
We usually put our artificial tree up the first weekend in December.......of course that would be after nagging DH to bring all the decorations and tree down from the attic.....my daughter and I have decided to wait and see if he will bring it down without any nagging this year........we are both afraid we may not have a tree or decorations this year...........he has given us such a hard time about always being nagged to death so this year our lips are sealed........I'll let ya know when or if we get the tree up! ![]()
We put our 12 foot tree up yesterday. We just got this tree and I nearly fell off of a ladder trying to put it together. It turned out really pretty. Today...I took pictures of the kids in front of it for Christmas cards. I fight with them every year trying to get at least ONE good photo. I took a whole roll of film...Fortunately I got 2 ALRIGHT pictures. I will be fixing up cards early this year...I usually wait until the last minute along with my Christmas shopping! ![]()
Just curious because I notice that a lot of our American friends that celebrate Christmas put their trees up for American Thanksgiving, a couple of people at the beginning of November. I thought I was early because I usually put it up the 1st of December. Obviously using a real tree, you couldn't do it much before the week before Christmas, but it is becoming a tradition for Americans to put it up for Thanksgiving?
Gee I remember the good old days when it went up Christmas Eve, haha!
Heehee and while we are at it, how many already have their shopping done and things wrapped? I have started but am nowhere near done, I usually try to be done by December 1.
Ok, I am a sucker for punishment, how many are done their holiday baking or started it even?
Hugs Squirrelly
I never put up my tree.... It saves time having to take it down.... :-p
Grinch Princess...
Bah, humbug! Hhmn, you could decorate the box it came in, haha! Did I tell you what my favourite Christmas decoration is? My sister got me Santa and Squirrel Salt and Pepper shakers!
hugs
Haha Squirrelly they sound cute! One day i'm going to hunt down ferret salt and pepper shakers. ![]()
We put our tree up at the earliest 3 weeks before xmas but usually ends up bering around 2 1-1/2 weeks before christmas. Lol We still use a real tree so we have to wait a little bit before we can buy one and put it up. If we got ours up after thanksgiving day the tree would be dead and dry before Christmas! ![]()
I'm with Princess grinch, no tree in my house for the last several years. I generally have to work thru Christmas, so it's no fun and no family here either.
This year, I'm going to visit my sister in Atlanta for xmas so there will be a tree there to enjoy...

I bet you could find ferret salt and pepper shakers too, there are a lot of people that collect salt and pepper shakers, there are so many different ones out there, probably on E-bay.
It was funny the year my sister found them at Walmarts, believe it or not. She had bought me all of these gorgeous gifts but I think I got more excited over these than anything. Haha, they must have been made with me in mind!
I love real trees, my sister gets one every year. Something about the smell of a real tree inside, isn't there?
Hugs Squirrelly
Hehe i tried looking on ebay ,and the best i could find was a ferret cookei cutter(whihc i'm definately going to buy anyways!). Lol The search continues!!!
That was really lucky to find the salt shaker at wal-mart! I would have gotten excited to. Hehe I guess we're both suckers for small cuddly furballs. LOL
Yeah there's nothing like a real tree in the living room. Its one reason i refuse to let my parents buy a fake tree. LOL The fresh pine scent is so nice!
At they place we went there was a pine tree that smelled like.. I think it was cherries? It was the spacific type of pinetree that had the smell, it wasn't fake or perfumed on. It smelled sooo nice and refreshing. Wish we could have bought it.

Ooh, that sounds nice, hhmn, wonder what kind of tree that is?
Haha, well cookie cutters would definitely be fun to have, keep looking for the salt and peppers, I bet you will find some eventually.
One reason why I avoid a real tree is because of my two cats. I remember one Christmas when my sister's cat was getting old. She got the tree up and nicely decorated and the old cat went over to it and lifted his leg. I thought my sister would die, it was pretty funny. I guess he figured one tree was the same as another and since he was an outdoor cat and it was a very cold day, well... Guess he just didn't feel like going down the stairs to his litter box. They had to lay plastic under the tree, and spray it with water to get rid of the odour.

LOL!!! Smart cat if you ask me! ![]()
We're set for any accidents like that! I have a tree/grass/plant friendly deoderizer made for pet bahtroom areas outside. LOL
Its espically hard to keep ferrets off a christmas tree. So we'll see how Nanny, my ferret, acts. ![]()
Haha, good luck! My female cat climbed fake trees, she broke so many ornaments over the years. She liked to sleep on the branches near the top. She still tries, but we block the tree off as much as possible. Somehow I think a ferret would have an easy time of climbing a tree, haha!

Ours goes up the weekend after Thanksgiving - we finished decorating it last night! I love to look at it once it's done, but geez, I actually hate putting the thing together and decorating it.
It's 9 feet tall with 1000 lights and about 200 ornaments. I also decorate the fireplace mantle and the staircase and the balcony that overlooks the livingroom. I spent this morning stringing lights on the shrubs around the front porch....we're having a bit of a heat wave so I figured I better stike while iron's hot! After a high temperature of 17 on Thanksgiving Day, it's a balmy 60 today. Nice! Too bad it won't last.

When I lived with my mom I would have to lug that darn Thing up from the basement get it all set up and decorated. Then after Xmas I would have to take it down sort everything and lug it back to the basment. Finally I had enough one year I took it to the Xmas tree graveyard. And that Was The end of that. No more Xmas tree....
I guess I am the only one who puts a tree up very late . I will start slowly putting my christmas stuff out from the beginning of december but we bring a tree 23 of dec (real tree, because i love the smell) and decorate as well then. 24 will be a big cookig and a family over at our place and our Santa will come to bring the presents very late at 24th. But he will come personally. This is something different we do in Estonia (finland as well , i am not sure about other scand countries) Santa always comes 24th late at night. I just thought the reason why he comest to us earlyer is that he lives so close to us. I don't live in estonia anymore but we have kept the tradition.
I love christmas!
I use to be a Christmas fanatic; shopping done by Thanksgiving, tree up on Thanksgiving night, whole house decorated from top to bottom.
When my children got older and no longer wanted to help, I decided not to decorate any longer. I have not decorated for the past thirteen years.
I only buy presents for my two sons, grandchildren and godchildren.
And I must say that I do not miss the hassel one bit ![]()
Great question Squirrelly! Hey--is that a new avatar you have there? I don't seem to remember seeind a juggling squirrel before--am I just non-observant??
ANYWAY--I used to put it up the Friday after Thanksgiving (American). However, since I've had kids--it's gotten later and later and later each year. Last year it didn't go up until 12/23!! I have a 5 and a 2 year old--so this year I thought it would be OK to put up a bit earlier. HOWEVER, I am now watching my monster nephew who is 17 months old. Needless to say, I haven't figured outhow I am going to keep him OUT of the tree.
Now--as far as shopping goes--I'm DONE!!! Yep, that's right DONE! All I have left to do is wrapping.
Baking? I haven't even started! It's too early yet.
Lisa
My family decorated yesterday. The house looks so good! I bought a new tree this year. It's a fake tree of course. It's the pre-lite kind!! I love it!! All I had to do was put the 3 pieces together, fluff the branches & plug it up! Was sooooooo easy!! I wish I would have got a pre-lite tree a few years ago. No presents under the tree yet but I did buy one gift today! I just have to wrap it. Now if I can get finished before Christmas Eve I'll be doing really good!
The tree stays up till after New Year's Day. When the holidays are over I plan on putting the tree in my closet just like it is! Decorations & all! I have a huge spare room closet so it will be perfect! Next year I'll just pull it out! Add a few new ornaments & waa laa!! ![]()

We generally buy a tree the Saturday after Thanksgiving but this year it was raining and I didn't want to lug a huge wet Noble Fir home, so we put it off for a few days. For Catholics, the season of Christmas doesn't end until the Monday after the Solemnity of the Baptism of the Lord, or in 2006, on January 9th, but our tree has never come down until mid- to late-January.
I love Christmas!!
One year I left it up until February. :blushing: ![]()
Dang I am jealous, I wish I had a closet big enough to just slide that sucker in, haha! I got the same kind of tree last year, unfortunately once you get it out of the box, it never fits again, figures, haha!
I would truly like to have shelves built all along the walls so I could leave the Christmas villages up year round, they are so much work to set up and take down, I am getting too old for that.
Heehee, Lisa, no you aren't dreaming, that is a new avatar for me on this site, I use it on another site and Cake Princess gave him a toque and animation so he could juggle.
Hugs Squirrelly
At our house, the tree goes up during the last week before Christmas or even Christmas Eve because we always go out to the woods & cut a fresh cedar tree. (We plant several small cedar trees every year, too.) Ooooh, the scent is heavenly!!! Also, we get fresh cedar, pine, holly & pine cones for decorating, but not too early or it'll all dry up. Advent Wreath is made with fresh greenery too, but sometimes, we have to replace the greenery before Christmas. Oh well, I don't mind because it smells wonderful! ![]()
Christmas is absolutely my FAVORITE time of the year!!! Maybe we'll have a white one this year! ![]()
Always wait as long as possible to un-decorate. Just hate to take our beautiful tree down. ![]()
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!!!
bakersofcakes
So in Denmark you light the advent wreath, do you also put candles on your trees? I had a friend from Finland who did until she got into trouble with an insurance agent who told her, her fire policy would be null and void if she didn't stop the practice, haha!
We DO put candles on our tree, wouldn't be a real christmas tree without. Real live christmas tree and real burning candles. It just looks and smells the way Christmas is supposed to smell. There's no problems with the insurance, and fortunately it is very rare that houses burn down because of the christmas tree and its candles. It happens more often with christmas decorations (traditionally we do decorations on logs, with spruce (or what ever kind of christmas tree you use), pine cones, gold/silver/coloured decoration and candles). Sometimes people forget to put out the light before leaving the room.......
On the 24th = Christmas, we get together, have a traditional christmas dinner, the christmas tree is lit and we ahhh and ohhhh over it. Then we form a circle around the tree, gather hands and walk around the tree singing danish christmas carols and hymns. Then we open our presents, one at a time. In m,y family we start at 6 o'clock and don't finish until well after midnight.
In some families Father Christmas comes with the presents and hand them out (so I guess we're even closer to him than Estonia/Finland *lol*).
That sounds lovely! The candles are gorgeous on a real tree, aren't they?
Hugs Squirrelly
I love love Christmas! When I was a kid my parents would not let me decorate or get a tree until maybe 2 weeks before christmas and if they could make me wait longer they would..LOL Now that I have my own house! I do what I want. So the day after Thanksgiving my dh drags all the stuff out and I start going through it while he puts the lights up outside. LOVE it! We have our tree but we are decorating it tonight. It down there soaking up water. We use a tree preservative and never let the water run out. The time to worry is right when you get it. Those first couple days it drinks a lot... after that you don't have to add much water to it and as long as it doesn't run out it's good til the beginning of january.
We also now get a different kind of tree than the douglas fir. The douglas fir will not last as long and I hate needles! There are a bunch of the others but they are all like the Noble fir. That one is the most expensive though and most common. But they don't die fast and they don't drop needles and I love the look.
So decorating, done! (almost)
Shopping, I am pretty close to being done. My daughter is done and we had the most to get for her. Baking I have not started because I don't know too many things I can do this early. I do have some candy I plan to start this week, that can be frozen.![]()
We usually put our tree up a few days after Thanksgiving. Last year we didn't put one up because the year before when my daughter was 2 years old, she took off an ornament and bit into it! I don't know how she mistook it for something edible because it was blue and glittery and GLASS! Thank goodness she didn't have any cuts! But we took her to the ER just in case. She only ingested a teeny tiny piece that we had to look for!
As for shopping, I just started the day after Thanksgiving.
Before I got married, I had my shopping done on the last day of Thanksgiving. I have tons more to do! ![]()
So how long a tree keeps must have to do with if you have heat on in your home. Here, a tree would never last that long and we use fresh cut trees, mind you, haha, they have to thaw out for a day or two before you can get them to absorb water other than that which is already frozen into them. We have to water them every day because much of the water that isn't drunk by the tree, evaporates.
Interesting how where you live plays a role in how your decorate and when!
Hugs Squirrelly
Yea that probably does affect it too. We don't have to have heat on all the time because well its not that cold, like you guys have cold. Dh doesn't like fake trees but if I lived somewhere the fresh wouldn't last I would insist on a fake one that I could put up right after thanksgiving. When I have a bigger house I want to have more than one tree. He may want to relent on getting a fake one to save money..LOL
