You could call them Santa balls for Christmas, Cupid balls for Valentine's day, turkey balls for Thanksgiving, birthday balls for a birthday. In other words, insert-name-to-fit-the-occasion balls. Making them for people at work? Workplace balls. For your boss? Boss balls. Or how about calling them nugs, as in nuggets? "Would you like to try a nug?" sounds better than, "Would you like to try a Santa ball?"

Well I made some of these tonight. I had a frozen strawberry cake in the freezer pulled it out and added some Loriann Amaretto Flavor to the chocolate and cake. Man was it good. I let some people taste them and immediately got an order for 30 this weekend. Baileys and Amaretto. Made them tonight and went easy on the booze. WOW ARE THEY GOOD!!!!

I sent some to a client and the feedback I got was "Those cake balls you sent are the BOMB!" and they think I should call them "Cake Bombs" and they ordered 2 dozen more.

I have been trying to figure out what to call them, and this may just work.

I thought about that too and really liked it, basically for the same reason you did...it sounds like they are worth $1.00+ each. But, when I ran it by some friends/clients the response I got was that not everyone liked truffles and since these didn't taste like truffles it was a bit misleading in that is would cause people who liked truffles to be disappointed and keep people who didn't like truffles from even trying them.

What a dilemma?????

A dilemma it is. When I brought them into work, I described them as being "kind of like a cake truffle" and everyone that night referred to them as cake truffles. (I work in an Emergency Room and everyone will pretty much try anything before you even tell them what it is. icon_smile.gif Expecially if it's a dessert. I also made some for a bake sale for my daughters preschool. They were wrapped (in small bags of 3) and I had labeled them "Cake Truffles." Only two bags sold in the morning while I was there (hopefully more sold later). So, I definitely see your point. I'll have to keep my eye out for another name that I like.

Can the ones using the coffee creamer be left out, or do they need to be refrigerated? I'm not sure if it's actually dairy or not.

Thanks!!!

I make mine slightly larger than bite-size and call them "Cake Bites - kinda like donut holes, only better". That goes over really well.

ps3338, if people try them they love them. i would offer samples next time. i offered samples at my craft show and people went nuts!!! and bought all that i had. i make mine bite sized, and dip them in wiltons choc. and charged $3.00 per doz. which is pretty cheap to some but i am in the midwest.
i think they are like drugs, let them try one, and they will be a customer for life. haha

melodycakes - I should have put some out as samples. Oh well, I know for next time. icon_sad.gif You're right though, they are addicting. I brought some into work and they couldn't get enough!

I make mine bite size as well (probably more like 2 bites). I use my small cookie scoop for consistant sizing before I roll them. I also use the Wilton chocolate melts. But, I recently made some (chocolate cake)with peppermint extract added to my buttercream and dipped them in white chocolate (added a little shortening). They came out great. So far this is my favorite combination. But, I've got a lot of other flavor combos I want to try.

Also, I'm planning on making some for gift bags. Do I need to dip them into chocolate? Thanks.

I might have missed it but could I make them tomorrow and freeze them til Christmas? Will they sweat when taken out? I have to travel about 4 hours on Christmas eve but I am sure it will be cold so the trunk will be like a freezer.

Thanks.

Should I dip them in regular chocolate, candy melts, or almond bark?

llee815,

I always use the chocolate almond bark. It is so easy. They set up in just a few mins. You can use the other though, just depends on what you like best.

Okay. I have another idea (a better one than my previous one, I promise!) What about calling them caboodles? I looked it up in the dictionary, and it means "the whole of something, including everything that is connected with it," which is kind of what a cake ball is: cake, icing, flavoring, chocolate covered, the whole enchilada.

Has anyone made a cake and used it for only cake balls. I just made a 13 by 9 cake and wondering how much buttercream to mix with it.
