My confession is that I give my kids each a beater with frosting when I'm done making it just so I can start to decorate.... My little one is only 9mo. old! (My DH would kill me if he knew that!)

procrastinator here too. My confession: I don't think any of my cakes look good, even when I get compliments. I figure they taste good enough to make up for their sloppy look. icon_redface.gif

Oh here is one more confession......I simply love my pieces, I think my work is just fabulous. (Don't get me wrong, I always learn and find something I could do better from each piece.) But I see the growth and all in all I love my body of work.

Since art school, thirteen years back, I struggled trying to find the right medium. I tried oil, watercolor, metal, bronze, ceramics, paper making, quilting, photography & film and finally I gave up altogether for about six years. Then I found cake and I fell head over heels in love with it.

Throughout this past year, I have had the most profound love affair with cake! And I do not see an end to my obsession.

I'm also a cake batter addict! I absolutely love my white chocolate and carrot cake batters and try to leave some aside just to eat, icon_redface.gif I have a sickness!!!

My other confession is that I'm also a procrastinator. I get so excited about a cake then when it comes time to start I find other things to do first and wait till the last minute but with cookies I just dive right in!!!

I'm in the procrastinator club too. That is why I am usually up until 2 am go to bed then up at 6am to finish up.
I like to be in my kitchen by myself. I don't work well with an audience.
I could go on and on and on. Is there a limit to our confessions? Is Dr. Phil nearby? I think this goes deeper than decorating cakes!

I guess I'll confess too.

I like cake batter, cake, not so much.

Love chocolate (what's wrong with you people! icon_surprised.gif how can you not like chocolate?! I'd have my blood replaced with chocolate if I could!)

Big time procrastinator. (Here I am on CC when I should be making a frog for my valentine's cake tomorrow icon_rolleyes.gif )

Ok, here it goes:
LOVE cake batter, cake, it's alright.
put things off til the last minute.
HATE cleaning up afterwards.
Would much rather have the cake already baked, I just want to get to the decorating.
the chocolate cake in my chocolate torte, my customers and husband rave about it, I think it's ok. nothing special.
Buttercream, it just ok. Can't eat a bunch of it.
Things always turn out better in my head then the end product.

Ok, my mixing bowl just got washed from yesterday morning! sat in a sink full of soapy water. I hate cleaning up. My biggest secret so far, though, is all my clients tell me what they want, and give me creative rein. I tell them "trust me", but in reality, I have no idea how its going to turn out until its actually done. I always have ideas, but too many and not very well organized. The only cake I ever tried to duplicate per customer request turned out awful! (obviously no picture). Now my policy is I don't duplicate cakes. period.
Also, I hate buttercream frosting. And I can't cook to save my life.

My problem is that I dream up the cake, and have it all figured out, and then I change my mind...I get toooo many ideas at once. I guess I don't trust my judgement. I keep second guessing myself. Does anyone else have that problem?

I'm a procrastinator, especially cleaning up the kitchen. icon_redface.gif

I'm not crazy about cake. I'd rather have any kind of frosting (except store-bought thumbsdown.gif ), I can eat it with a spoon. I love MMF, to eat & to work with.

I'm a non-recovering CHOCOHOLIC! I probably eat more per day than most of you use for baking in a month! Mostly dark chocolate or chocolate & peanut butter. (pb & Hershey's syrup sandwich, mmm!)

I hate cooking, other than baking. icon_surprised.gif

I can't imagine not liking sweet stuff! I also love batter and icing (and cake, cookies, pie, etc.) Iwill make a double batch of icing or two mixes when I only need half batch more or an extender would suffice just to have enough to spoon freely. I really found out how much I eat one day when I made cupcakes without eating any batter and came out with 6 more than usual! The cake scraps And extra icing i plan to save for cake balls or other projects almost always get eaten when nobody's around! icon_redface.gif

Cindy,

YES! That's me. I draw the cake, decide on colors, then keep on looking for more ideas. Just have a hard time deciding on the final design.

I don't like filling bags..... or cleaning them...... or getting the couplers out of them. I don't like getting anything on my hands. icon_lol.gif

I could live without the baking part.... hate the cleaning part. Don't like pricing... (but love collecting $$)!

Hate tinting fondant..... unless I'm making a new batch all one color.

Hate making red. Or black.

Hate trying to find enough counterspace and light in my old kitchen.

Get really frustrated when my little ones are hanging on my legs while I'm trying to work.

Hate telling my 3 year old "no" when he asks "is that cake for me?"

Hate cleaning up!!!!!!!!! Hate it, hate it, hate it!

Love decorating. Love looking at everyone's wonderful creations on CC. Love finishing a job! Love looking at the finished product. Love hearing good feedback. Love looking for ideas. Love shopping for cake stuff! Love looking through cake books. Love this website!!! icon_biggrin.gif

I'm with you kimmy37. I hate telling my almost 3 year old "NO" when she asks "is that cake for me?" She can not even try the BC or cake since she is allergic to eggs icon_cry.gif She always want to help! icon_sad.gif

I Love Shopping cake stuff!!!

I do not like BC at all. I hate making Red or Black.

I hate hate hate cleanning after I'm done. and through the process since I just have 1 KA bowl.

I agree with everyone... I HATE the cleaning up.

I hate kneading the color into fondant.

I hate rolling out the fondant for a cake larger than 9" round. icon_cry.gif I need a larger surface area.

oh, and I always make a little more buttercream than I need. That way I can keep it in a container in the fridge for a nice 'sweet bite' after dinner for the next few nights icon_surprised.gificon_lol.gif

Oh i think they've all been covered. I HATE the cleaning up process the most. I also only have one KA so it has to be washed many times during the process!
I hate how I turn into "Mean Mommy" when Im trying to concentrate on the decorating. I hate how my kids always say I never make a cake for them. icon_sad.gif
I hate the slimy grease mess left in the sink after clean up is done.
Mostly, I hate "Mean Mommy". (I know I already said that, but that's my biggest HATE)
I hate worrying that the cake is gunna taste horrible, or look horrible.

But... I LOVE the finished product, and i LOVE the reactions I get with the finished project. Makes almost ALL the hates well worth it! (except the mean mommy, but i always try to make it up with overnice mommy) LOL

Ok, I'm definitely in the procrastinator club, I could possibly be the president!! My dad harasses me all the time about it. But like many others, I do work better under pressure.

I don't like cake either, never have, so it's not just since I've been decorating them. I've only eaten my own cake once and that was b/c it was the strawberry flavor and I'd never had it.

I absolutely hate the cleaning up part. If I could leave it and do it the next day without my mom freaking out about the mess, I would!

I wish the frosting could jump into the piping bags already colored all on it's own, ready to go.

I also have a fear that the cakes taste horrible, so I always ask. Everyone has said they taste great, but I doubt them.

Now those of you who don't like chocolate, I'm not sure what to say to you...I am a certifited CHOCOHOLIC!! I can't go a day without some type, any type of chocolate.

Thanks for this great forum topic, it helps to know that I'm not alone in my thoughts, likes and dislikes!!!

3.- secretly hide stuff that I buy from my DH

First of all I love this thread it is the most fun to read ever!

I love buttercream probably more than anything else sweet in the world. I could it by the spoonfulls! I lick the bowl, sometimes the beaters too. I always make extra so that I can pipe the leftovers onto graham crackers with my kids. (My mom used to do that for me and sis when we were growing up). Sometimes I make our cakes at home the more simple type just so that I can slather it with alot of icing. I like cake, but I tend to use it just for the icing. icon_surprised.gif

When I try something new and it doesn't work and I think that it is ruined. I keep working with it and it turns out fine...I love that!

I hate filling the piping bags. I hate cleaning the tips and the piping bags.

I hate it when my cakes don't look like what I've envisioned in my head. Most of the time for me, too Melvira! icon_smile.gif

The cleanup part is kind of therapeutic to me. icon_redface.gif I procrastinate and then hate myself in the morning.

My worst confession is that sometimes I spend more on supplies than I ask for the cake. icon_redface.gif Not often--but it happens!

My turn. So many of those rang true that I think I blushed.

I LOVE fondant -- Satin Ice Fondant. I love chocolate. Too much. I am a chocolate snob. I love cake and buttercream.

I hate to remove the tips from the bags. I hate to clean the tips, I would rather go buy new ones. I usually leave them for my husband to clean. Sorry, honey.

I can't stand mixing the colors!

I can't stand washing everything afterwards -- an no matter how hard I try, the kitchen looks like a tornado hit it -- even if I'm only doing a 9" cake!

But the worst is writing on the cake! I used to work for Baskin Robbins (20 years ago!) and I got to practice every day. Writing was soooo simple. Now it's hard to keep steady. Maybe I'm just getting old, but it never goes as smoothly as I feel that it should in my head!

All of the above (almost)!

I always have an ambitious plan but I put off baking the cakes and making the icing until it is too late to even try to do everything I want.

Cake is so-so for me (I'd rather have ice cream) but I do eat plenty of buttercream and fondant.

Cleaning makes me crazy. I generally keep things cleaned up pretty well while I am baking because I have to wash my pans and mixer bowl for the next batch. BUT, by the time I get done decorating it looks like there was a bakery explosion in my kitchen and breakfast area. There is powdered sugar, cornstarch, piping bags, tips, etc., etc. EVERYWHERE!

It takes me forever to get it all cleaned up.

I love the oohs and aahs from people.

Cindy
