Been mentioned many times but I do not like icing. I only really like a not too sweet choc BC or ganache. But since I stopped eatting chocolate those are not options anymore. Dont even try to get me to eat fondant or MMF
I generally do not like eatting other poeples cake, unless its my grandmas. I always think i could have done better
I always feel smug when i do a cake for someone and they love it.
I am secretly glad that my sister cant decorate cakes. She is artistic in everyother sense but horrid when it comes to working with icing.
I haven't heard this one yet... I hate to cover cake boards, especially the round ones. That's why I conveniently taught DH to do that.
I despise the clean up, so my kitchen looks like a disaster area most of the time. I don't understand why everyone says that cleaning tips is such a pain. I toss them in a container, pour in some degreaser concentrate and fill with very hot water. All of the icing and grease dissolves then the tips go in the dishwasher.
I don't mind the baking, but have really gotten to dread doing the decorating, particularly characters and FBCTs.
I hate that this has become just another job for me (I have a full time one too) and my success (meaning being too busy) causes problems with my marriage. I love that I don't have kids.
I love all of the positive comments that I get from customers, and get excited when the orders come rolling in, then get overwhelmed when I actually sit back and see how much I've overbooked myself. (Hmmm... 28 cakes for Valentine's day, no problem)
I hate that I've only gotten fatter doing this and it's next to impossible to try to lose weight because I LOVE anything sweet!
That's enough for me!!!!
I am a chocoholic and I absolutely love canned chocolate icing - a little cake, a lot of icing! Everyone seems to love my buttercream, but I scrape most if it off my piece of cake and secretly wish I had canned chocolate icing to put on it. I am a grouch when working on my cakes, and will not start on anything until everyone is out of the kitchen. My kids are not little anymore, but I did always feel like a mean mommy, but now, I am just an old grouch - until I am done, then I am nice again! Hate the clean up part too.
I'm a chocoholic, but lately chocolate just doesn't taste as good to me. I think I'd reather have white cake if givin the choice. Also, cake itself is tasting wierd to me also. I think I'm burned out on it.
Oh God, Jessica you had to remind me...so I must confess...I suck the icing out of the tips too. I don't know why I am so compelled to do this.
One of the main reasons I got involved in caking was because of my obsession with buttercream! The other reason, the main reason was that I wanted my girls to have homemade birthday cakes that looked exactly like what they wanted. And I wanted to do it myself and not pay someone else to do it.
Ok!! I too suck the icing out of the tips when I'm done... I actually talk to myself in my head about "Ok, this time I'm just going to put it right in the water in the sink and not suck it out.....but AAAAGGGGGHHHHH!! I have to ! I can't help it!!! It's like it calls to me!!
I also don't mind cleaning the tips. Actually it's kind of therapeutic for me. Instant gratification!! All the other clean up I could definitely live without!!!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE when something turns out like I thought it wouldn't! And when people compliment me on my cakes I try to politely accept the comment but in my head all I can do is see what is wrong with it and I really want to point it out to everyone!!!!
Oh come on everyone, there has to be one more person on this site who secretly admires their own handiwork. I can't be the only one.
I hate that I found this passion so late in my life - meaning after college, marriage, and kids. I wish I'd known this was what I wanted to do back in high school. Now I sometimes resent that I can't devote the time to this that I would like to. That's my big secret! And I like to eat the icing.
Since we don't have a dishwasher, i've convinced my boyfriend that he has to do the dishes if he wants to eat the cake. I cooked you clean type of thing.
I try to help him out by licking off all the spatulas
I went to school for fashion design, & made plenty of clothes, so why can't i come up with an original idea for a darn cake??!?!
I can't eat enough sugar, cake, cookies, pie, chocolate, but i'm actually losing weight wish i could share how, many others would love to know I bet!
[quote="strawberry0121"]
I buy cake stuff when we sometimes can't pay the bills on time!

I hate to admit it, but same here!!!
And my kids always want to know when I'm baking something "for our family" (and not to send away) poor things....
Nowadays, I clean up the kitchen between each step, otherwise it's too overwhelming, so now it's not so bad
My cakes never come out looking like what I planned. I sit and plan everything on paper, and then the fondant creases and I don't want to fix it, so I change the design to cover it up, or something just doesn't want to work out, so I change the design. But in the end, I'm usually happy with the result, and so is everyone else.
Oh come on everyone, there has to be one more person on this site who secretly admires their own handiwork. I can't be the only one.
*sigh* I guess you're the only vain one here!! But seriously, when one turns out well, I secretly pat myself on the back until my arm hurts. There are so few of them... my arm is in no serious trouble!
MarisLovesCake... you are SO OUT OF HERE!! Seriously!! I hereby strip you of your moderator and all-over well-loved status, and relegate you to the bowels of cake decorator hell where you must scrub pans and never taste fondant again!!!

Hey, hey, hey!!!! What do you have against fondant??!!!!
In small quantities it complements the cake quite well, I think.
Ok...so...when one DOES turn out well..I do a little victory dance in the kitchen..but shhhh it's a secret
I am really bad about deciding to do a cake at the last minute.
I am sitting here at work right now, knowing that I have to make 3 dozen cupcakes for DD's school party tomorrow, and finish 3 dozen candy-covered marshmallows for DD, and I am thinking of making a cake for a potluck for work for tomorrow. DH is going to kill me for sure!!
I love cake batter, but always worry that I'm going to get sick from the raw eggs... does that stop me? NO!
I also hate the process of making a cake. I love to decorate, but hate the baking, hate the mess, hate the cleanup, and hate that it takes me all day! More than anything I just love looking at cake galleries, finding really cool fondant figures, appreciating other decorator's talents, and occassionally making my own masterpiece.
I could never be a cake decorator full time! I'd get too stressed out by all the mess and yes the chaos of it all.

MariaLovesCakes,
Hey there, don't confuse me with the trouble maker Melvira.

She wrote the above I didn't - - - I get in enough trouble by myself and look she is picking on me again and calling me vain.
(Somebody better watch out cuz I am plotting my revenge.)
I hate the baking part, I wish I could just start in on the decorating!!!
ME TOO
My confession is that I spend way too money on things before I actually need them. I see things in the craft or hardware stores, and I see how it could be used for cakes - and I buy it. And I have no idea whether I'll actually use it or not... My kids get angry at me and tell me they could have gotten a cell phone or something instead of my "cake crap". Hehehe... but when I make their birthday cakes, they are the envy of all their friends.
I feel like I'm not very creative... I have a hard time coming up with ideas on paper. I just start with a basic idea or theme, and throw things on the cake until I'm not as disgusted with it.
Also, I tend to make more cake than I need - so I can eat some too.
I love cake,chocolate....anything with sugar.Except fondant.I hate the taste of it.I like to work with it.I'm part of the club that agrees to do the cake, then dreads doing it.But,I think it's just because I want it to be great and worry it won't be.
The cleaning up part sucks, but I don't mind the baking.I'm not creative, thats where CC is a life saver for me.

Oh, don't worry, tipto57, I knew it was Melvira!!
for some reason when I added her quote, your username appears, instead of hers! Who knows why!
But don't worry, I am keeping an eye on Melvira!
I too buy stuff that I want to use...then try to find an excuse to actually use it. I actually got a separate account (before I was legal) to keep the money in so I would not spend more than I was selling.
ALSO......I LOVE CAKE. I love cake, frosting, ganache, icing, mousse, and even mmf. I NEVER get sick of cake as attested to by my tight pants!
I make cakes...so I have an excuse to EAT THEM!
Julia
Alright, I'll be brave, too. Here goes.
I love to bake. When I'm depressed, I bake. When I'm happy, I want to bake. When I'm bored, I think, "I should go bake something."
This is not a good thing when combined with the fact that I LOVE cake (and icing, fondant, batter) . . . and cookies (and cookie dough) . . . and chocolate (anything).
I don't mind the clean up--the warm dishwater usually helps my hands feel better. (Except for removing the couplers--hate that.) Now if you want to talk about cleaning the bathroom or dusting--that I HATE. (So no writing in the dust on the furniture!)
And as with most, I hate that I can't make my icing do what my mind sees.
bkdcakes wrote:I'm a procrastinator, especially cleaning up the kitchen.
I'm not crazy about cake. I'd rather have any kind of frosting (except store-bought ), I can eat it with a spoon. I love MMF, to eat & to work with.
I'm a non-recovering CHOCOHOLIC! I probably eat more per day than most of you use for baking in a month! Mostly dark chocolate or chocolate & peanut butter. (pb & Hershey's syrup sandwich, mmm!)
I hate cooking, other than baking."
My question is, what is MMF? Just curious... ~Billie
I convince customers to go with fondant, because I hate working with BC. But when I get cake with fondant I pull it off
Also hates cleaning, so I only bake when my cleaning lady is in
And i can never say NO... thats why I end up with 5 cakes on the same day
Billie, MMF is Marshmallow Fondant. It's a yummy homemade fondant, using marshmallows, water & confectioner's sugar. I'm sure the recipe is on here somewhere, here's the one I use:

Welcome to CC!
Ok, here's mine...
When DH comes home, and I've been on CC for probably AT LEAST an hour I get up and act like I've been cleaning or watching tv or something OTHER than being ADDICTED to CC!
Another, when my in-laws say they love my cakes or that they look so nice, I act like it's cause they've never had anything other than regular white or chocolate store bought, and in reality I'm pretty much gloating inside
Oh, and my last one...when someone tells me job well done, or whatnot, I act like "no big deal" when 10 mins before they got there I was ready to rip someones head off from the stress I caused myself from probably procrastinating!
I guess the only problem w/ these is that I'm not as good as I wish I was and pretend I am when I'm not. Anyone else w/ this problem?
Oh, ditto, mollielor! When DH comes home, I hate to get caught on CC. He calls it my "cake porn," accusing me of being addicted and shaking his head! (Which is may be true, but, hey . . . )
Oh, I'm definitely not as good as I wish I could be. I have a hard time making roses, so I usually end up making some other kind of flower. Truth is, I don't want to make a separate batch of stiff icing so I can make roses. Too lazy to mess with it. Plus, gotta be in the mood.
Another confession, I'm scared to death to make a wedding cake. I'm going to make my own 25th tiered anniversary cake, which will be my first. Just not sure how it will turn out, and how much time it will take me.
Okay deep breath...here's my confession...I can hear the gasps now. I line my pans with brown paper for like wrapping packages. My mom used this method in the 70's (but she actually used paper grocery bags) and that's what I learned and that's what I use to this day...it works like a charm...peels right off and I haven't lost a customer yet
