Kashvi Romance
This is my contribution to the Elegant Indian Fashion Collaboration part2 inspired by one of the gorgeous lehengas from the Gaurav Gupta India Couture 2016 collection. His signature exaggerated ruffles are represented by large folded fondant pieces covered with silver luster with hand painted gold gel paints. The mint drapes were made using poured Flexique. Over one hundred strands of pearls were made from gum paste and then strung from a ribbon created from wafer paper treated with Flexique. The cake is finished with delicate Phalaenopsis orchids with deep magenta centers. Photos by Mike Conway Photography

Angel Heart
This is my contribution to the Sugar Art for Autism 2017 collaboration where artists from around the world came together to honor those on the Spectrum with our sugar creations. I was inspired by the amazing work of the award winning eco-impressionist Grant Manier. His Angel Heart piece (in the detail photos) was created from over 3,000 pieces of recycled wall paper and jewelry. I created my piece with a more 3d version of the heart made with a combination of gum paste and torn pieces of layered colored wafer paper. The puzzle piece is hand cut gum paste using the same method of layered wafer paper. The top and bottom tiers are highlighted with gold leaf and a gum paste garden rose. This cake is dedicated with love to the memory of Marissa Isabel Garcia. Photos by Mike Conway Photography

Garden Angel
This is my contribution to the March issue of DIY Weddings magazine. The cake was inspired by the elements of a classic garden with strong architectural features and lavish floral motifs. The Bas relief angel, reminiscent of ancient carved key stones, is made from gum paste and assorted mold pieces, cut and assembled to create the windblown hair and floral crown. Over fifty sugar flowers and foliage surround the top of a lattice fence made from a 50/50 mix of fondant and gum paste. The tiers are covered with a concrete texture made from a fondant mixture and desiccated coconut. The sugar flowers include; Ranunculus, Cosmos, Simple Roses, Anemone, Trailing Petunia, Day Lily, Hydrangea, Jasmine, Amaranth, Ivy, Fern and berries.

Modern Ghana Bridal Gown Cake
This was my contribution to the Brides Around the World collaboration. My cake inspiration comes from a beautiful wedding dress from Ghana. Ghanaian weddings are time of celebration where the traditional Kente print plays a large role. Each color has a symbolic meaning expressing history, social values and ethics. I used wafer paper to recreate the four patterns and applied each one to the fondant covered tiers. The cake topper head wrap, known as the duku was created using wafer paper treated with Flexique and highlighted with a gold pattern. The tiny blue fondant ruffles are slightly tipped with gold and the cake is finished with little plumeria sugar flowers.

Carnavalet En Fleur
This piece was created for the Gardens of the World collaboration. It was inspired by the beautiful parterre garden of the historic Carnavalet Museum in Paris, France. I was drawn to the curves of the beautiful boxwood hedges, the stone building with arched windows and the wide variety of spring blossoms, all of which shaped my design. Several mediums were used to create this piece including fondant, gum paste, gelatin and wafer paper. The windows are gelatin covered wafer paper, crushed sprinkles were used for the gravel and the flowers are gum paste. I hope you enjoy it as I had so much fun creating it.

Kachnar Goddess
This was my contribution to the Elegant Indian Fashion collaboration The flowers, made of gum paste, are the blossoms of the Indian orchid tree, also known by their Hindi name, kachnar. The cake is two extended tiers and a modified separator covered in orange, rose gold and draped magenta fondant standing 24” tall. A 50/50 mix of fondant and modelling chocolate was used for the trim ribbons that are adorned with isomalt gems and dragees. The strung jewelry beads are made of isomalt and gum paste was used for the hand cut scroll work and brooches. The side drape is made from a gelatin mixture that I made to stay pliable allowing it to hang like fabric. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did making it.

Silver Winter
Silver Winter My last cake of 2014.. There were a couple of late nights with this one. The silver reindeer was fashioned after a Christmas ornament and is made from a mix of fondant, modeling chocolate and a bit of gum paste. Silver leaf snowflakes and dragee snow finish off the bottom tier. I hope you enjoy!

Autumn Bird
This is a cake I made to experiment with Amber Adamson's Creamy Paint method. I used ACP to paint the cake and to color wafer paper for the bird feathers. The bird is made from 50/50 fondant and modeling chocolate. The branch is made from wire wrapped in foil and covered with modeling chocolate. These are both firsts for me. This spice cake is filled with brown sugar Swiss meringue buttercream and wrapped in cinnamon cocoa ganache. Time to have a slice and test out the new recipe.

Poppies For Marie
Here is my latest. A while ago I posted a pic of a single poppy on my page. I made a few more and decided they needed a home. This is the house I built for them. Gum paste flowers, silver leaf in a not so traditional application and fondant poppy petal ruffles. I enjoyed this one very much although I think I fussed with it a bit too long. Hope you like it Marie is a friend that was making her first poppies the same time I was, so I dedicate this to her.

The embellishments were made with Mexican paste and the flowers gum paste. The lace was made with Sugar Dress. The original sewing machine design is from Zoe Clark.
