September And October Birthdays
For our women's gathering at church, we were to sit according to birthdays. I was asked to make a different cake for each table. Scratch white cake with buttercream. I just realized looking at this photo that the pumpkin in the bottom left corner has no stem. Maybe he has that scowl on his face because someone pulled it out!! LOL

One Step Forward
I had made a cake for a woman at church in June. I uploaded it in the disasters album! I had somehow forgotten to level it and had already frosted it when I realized it, then a huge air bubble formed on the top after I was completely finished. I had to pop it and cover it with a makeshift design. UGLY, UGLY, UGLY!!!! Well, there's no accounting for taste -- she loved it! So, she asked for another one this weekend for a family gathering. I hope my skills have improved at least a little since then. At least this one's level! Scratch white cake with buttercream.

Argyle Golf Cake
Made for a charity golf outing to benefit our local homeless shelter. They're going to raffle it at the pizza party that follows golfing. Scratch white cake w/buttercream, blue piping gel "water" and modeling chocolate "argyle" squares. I can't imagine biting into a piece of cake that has a lot of pure brown sugar "sand," so I crumbled up homemade chocolate chip cookies instead -- it sounded more appetizing to me. Thanks to all of the CCers who've shared their golf cake photos -- I copied!!!

Sleeping Teddy Bear
A friend asked me to make my first baby shower cake ever. I was excited and wanted to try out my new impression mat. It's supposed to make your frosting gridded like cross-stitch cloth, then you pipe X's as though you were cross-stitching. Well, it didn't work, so I had to free-hand it!! It's not great, but it's not awful. I guess I'm okay with it. Scratch coconut cake w/buttercream.

Heart Anniversary Cake
This is for my friends' surprise anniversary party being thrown by their daughter. I wanted every tier to go with the heart theme, so I found ideas in 3 different Wilton Yearbooks. The top tier is coconut, the center one lemon and the bottom one white cake, all from scratch. Buttercream frosting.

White Sox Cake
This is my very first 3-tiered cake!! I was glad to get it delivered in one piece to my friend's husband's 50th birthday party. It's scratch chocolate and white cakes with buttercream. Two glaring errors were that the Sox logo is way off center and that I somehow cut my center dowel about 1/4" too long -- see that bump on top of the cake? Oh well, live and learn!

Wedgwood/alien Invasion?
This was my first time using a petal pan, and I found that it's very hard to get the frosting smooth on this shape. I'm trying to get practice piping and was fairly pleased with the top -- then I made the mistake of trying to do like grecian urn things on the sides. They turned out looking more like aliens with antennae! Fresh lemon cake with buttercream.

Ute's Birthday
Everything went wrong with this cake!! Some of the edges stayed in the pan, so it wasn't quite round as I was decorating it. I couldn't get the icing smooth. Then, when I had all the decorations done, had written the message and decided the cake was okay after all, it grew a HUGE goiter!!!!! Somehow an airbubble had formed right on top of the cake. I had to prick it with a pin several times to deflate it. That's why there's now an out-of-place blue design there, making the message look off-center. Scratch white cake with buttercream.

Sarah's Graduation
I had initially tried to do a crown border with intercrossing green and yellow dropstrings. Well, they dropped alright -- right off the cake!! They left smudges all over the sides, so I had to cover them up with makeshift cornelli lace. Hopefully, the fresh lemon cake and buttercream taste better than they look!
