Anna's Cake
A little friend told me EXACTLY what she wanted -- chocolate cake and frosting, 10 pink flowers around the top, and "Happy Birthday, Anna" written on the side. So, that's what she's getting! Unfortunately, her name is so short that there was a lot of extra room left, so I filled it in with more pink stuff!

Musical Retirement Cake
For a friend who's retiring from teaching music. Can you guess what the high school's mascot is? LOL The music score is the first 2 lines of "For He's A Jolly Good Fellow." I kept telling myself that it looked amateurish, then I realized that, hey, I AM an amateur! Carrot cake w/cream cheese frosting.

Pentecost Cake
I made this cake for my little Sunday Schoolers. Since this is Pentecost (the church's birthday, symbolized in red), I thought we needed cake!! It's a MUCH smaller version of a Colette Peters cake -- hers is 4 tiers and she uses black licorice. I'll try to attach a photo of her magnificent cake below. TFL

Vegan Lamb Cake
Made for a friend's vegan daughter who loves lambs. Luckily, I was able to get the pan on deep discount after Easter. I forgot to put a line of white swirls between the pink ears and the face. Hopefully, the birthday girl won't notice. The chocolate poundcake and "buttercream" frosting, though vegan, were surprisingly delicious!

Sallys_50Th.jpg
This was originally supposed to be a 2-tiered cake for a quilter I know. I already had hand-quilted the topper, then her plans changed to a single cake. So, the topper's a little too big, but I used it anyway. I need to learn to be less heavy-handed when I'm piping!!!! It was devil's food cake, dulce de leche filling and buttercream frosting. TFL

My First Sheetcake
These are not colors that I would've chosen, but it was for an organization whose logo is the purple heart with the red cross, so I went with it!! It's my first sheetcake ever, 1/2 coconut cake, 1/2 devil's food. I was just so glad that both cakes came out the same height so that I didn't have to level them. I wasn't thrilled with the purple around the border -- it looks sloppy. However, since I'm donating the cake, I'm not expecting any complaints!!!

Chain Stitching
This is one of 5 cakes that I made for friends on Friday!!! I put out the word that I need practice, and people rallied. This was the bottom tier of a 3-tiered 6", 8" and 10" cake on separate plates in a vertical holder. The others were the large, round yellow one in my photos and a chocolate one that I'm ashamed to post! TFL

Missing Piece Cake
My church friend saw the missing piece cake I did last week and requested one for her daughter's birthday. It's WASC with strawberry filling and buttercream. I also wanted to try the piping technique on the sides that I saw in Martha Stewart's Wedding Cakes book. Practice, practice, practice -- I refuse to give up!!!
