Curious George & The Firefighters

Curious George & The Firefighters on Cake Central

A friend's son desperately wanted Curious George and/or a fire truck. He looked around in his are and could find plenty of simple fire trucks, but no George. So, he asked me if I could do something. The cake is sculpted to look like the one on the book CG & the Firefighters. Red buttercream (I hate buttercream) with fondant accents. The water is sugar on wires, which helps support George playing on the hose.

Awesome cake. I also hate buttercream, to me fondant it's the best. I can do anything in fondant but not buttercream.

I hate buttercream too but I must say, yoiu did such an awesome job smoothing it that yours looks like fondant. The water splashing is magnificant! I would love to know how you did that??? Awesome cake!

The water I made by taking some wires I had cut into the right length and giving them the curve I wanted. I also made a "splash" of melted sugar to be the base. I rather quickly dipped the wires into the sugar, and put them into the splash. I used a piece of standing floral foam to hold the other end, until I was ready to put them in the hose. Then, I took my spatula, dipped it into the melted sugar, and ran it along the wires to make them look drippy. It was kind of a pain, but it got easier as I went...

WOW! This looks great. My little boy, Collin fell in love with the pictures. He wants this cake now instead of his Thomas Cake. How did you do the cake? Did you use a 3D pan or just shape it yourself?

i just shaped it freehand, based on the cover of Curious George & the Firefighters. i stacked some rectangles & just carved away!
