Gumball Machine Cake

Gumball Machine Cake on Cake Central

My first attempt at a 3D cake. Used 5 8" rounds, shaped the base even the top. It was the hit of the party even for 11 year old boys, they couldn't believe it was a cake. Saw this one on Ace of Cakes.

this is so cute - I saw that episode of Ace of Cakes and thought it was so cool. I would love to try this but don't really have a reason to right now :)

very nicely done and WHO doesn't like a gumball machine - all those memories as a child lusting at the machine hoping for that penny left behind so we could snatch a gumball!

I just noticed this cake as your avatar and had to come comment. I also saw it on Ace of Cakes and I remember them saying that they felt kids would be disappointed if the gumballs were fondant or anything but real gumballs. Your cake is fabulous! I'm putting it in my favorites.

How did you support the glass on this cake? Can you send me step by step instructions or tips. Thanks.
