Customer Request No Flaws On The Cake!

I cant wait for the delivery update on this.
I sure have and do almost every cake.Something ,somewhere doesn't always work out as you plan and you have to hide the boo boo's..
Oh yep, been there, done that, still do! ![]()
I totally agree. Cake is an edible medium, icing is an edible medium - there will always be a flaw of some kind no matter how tiny it might be - could a nano millimetre difference in size of one flower to another, or slight difference in icing depth be classed as a flaw? - if so she will never get a flawless cake from ANY cake decorator. Is she going to bring a magnifying glass to inspect? Everyone strategically places decorations from one time to another. I can understand how you feel under pressure its not a nice situation to be put in. If she wants her cake she needs to pay first - cash and make sure she signs to say cake received in perfect condition and her responsibility once the cake leaves your safe keeping!
Hope it goes well.
I'd leave the cake in the car until you get paid. Seriously.
I'd bet anything that you are being set up to either not get paid because she finds a flaw upon delivery or having Madame Prissy Pants demand a refund when she finds something later.
Oh my!! These comments really made me laugh. They are so true though!
I don't bake for anyone but friends and family, but the first thing I thought was "oh my gosh, get out while you still have your sanity!!"
I just wanted to pop in and say that I hope everything goes smoothly. Take care!!
Yeah, I think I would have had to have her define 'flaws' before starting this cake. What she may think as a flaw may be something like you cutting a zebra stripe bigger than your other cakes...and that's not a flaw.
Good luck with this one! Can't wait to hear what happened!
Please, please, please don't let her have that cake until you have the money in your hand (ALL of it!) - and be prepared to walk away (taking the cake with you!) if she wants to 'pay you next week' or something.
Like everyone else, I have a bad feeling about this one - I doubt she plans to pay full price, if at all.
Just want to say good luck. It sounds like you have a great attitude about it. Take the cake with you if she complains and give it to someone who will appreciate it.
She will probably love it and you will gain a great customer or she will not like it and you will not have lost anything because you would not want her as a customer.
Looking forward to hearing what happens. Your cakes are great.
My first reaction was WHAT?! Define flawless... Oooh boy, I hope this turns out to just be a funny story about how a customer had you in a tizzy over semantics. Keep us posted! ![]()
I'm ordering a deli platter for a party next weekend.....I'm going to tell them it needs to be FLAWLESS!!! ![]()
If she says, "There is a flaw", then I would reply with, "Oh, no that isn't a flaw, that is my trade mark.
oh snap.. love it!
You could always take a photo of it and photoshop the heck of it and make it 'flawless'.. then show it to her and explain that this is the 'flawless' magazine version of her cake.. the fake version.. that's what 'flawless' is - FAKE

And then the OP could have the client pay for a trip to the zoo to see how all zebra stripes are different...
.
I would also like to know what flawless is.
Well I'm done, I posted a photo. If someone can tell me how to add additional photos I'll post more. It's flawless by no means! Even looking at the picture I can see the black around the top is not perfectly straight. I did my best so if she doesn't like it then I'm ok with it. I might end up donating it to my belly. J/K!!![]()
Hahaha! I agree that this is a weirdo who's setting you up to lodge a complaint before she even sees the cake.
I'd tell her this:
Dear lovely lady,
This is a cake design that I've done before, and I'm confident that I can do it well...BUT, cake decorating is an organic process, and because it's not created by a machine, some details on your cake will be different than photos of the cakes that I've made previously.
I completely understand that you want a flaw-free cake. However, since the term "flaw-free" is a judgment call, I must reserve the right to determine for myself, as the decorator, how the cake should look. As a professional I would not deliver a cake that I considered to have flaws, and of course I always strive to deliver the best-looking cake that I can provide.
If you're not comfortable with allowing me to make the judgment call about what constitutes an acceptable finished cake, I certainly understand if you'd like to take your order elsewhere. Just let me know!
Love and kisses,
Your baker
ha ha ha!!! That's a classic!! ![]()

Every cake has flaws.... I don't think there is any cake ever made that the decorator can't find a flaw somewhere (we are our own worst critics).
I agree with the others, make her do a once over on the cake before she leaves with it, and stress to her that after it leaves your hands, it's hers.....and the money is yours ![]()
wow some people...I would pass up her request. Like some other posters said "define flaw"...to her it could be anything. She seems high maintenance ![]()
Just make sure you do flawless cakes from now on! ![]()
