Hi all! I made it - I did my 100 posts to find this group! Just a bit of background on me I'm a SAHM of a 2 1/2 & 1 year old girls who right now is just doing cakes as a hobby to keep some sanity about me but once the girls are in school I'm hoping to have perfected the craft enough to go into business for myself - well that's the plan anyways icon_biggrin.gif This is why I am so happy to have found a group like this that will give honest feedback on the cakes so I know what I need to work on - and I hope to help others as well - not that I feel like I have a right to critique others work but will try icon_smile.gifthumbs_up.gif

Anyway, here are a few cakes I'd like to have some feedback on but please feel free to look at any of my cakes and tell me what you think!! Thanks to all for this opportunity!

Happy 4th of July everyone! Here is a cake I did for a 4th of July wedding - I need to do more square cakes for practice on those corners! I think I need to change the name of my business to ball border cakes....everyone seems to want them from me (???) I know there should be another truffle or two on the top, but the bride didn't want them "glued" down w/ frosting, so they are just literally stacked on there, and when I tried to add more, they were not stable, I didn't want to risk them falling off onto the cake prematurely.

Thanks for the comment about my photos. I know what angles I like and it doesn't hurt to be a photo editor/graphic designer. icon_smile.gif

Here are my latest. I'm beyond WIPED! It's been crazy busy!

Did 2 cakes this week at the shop and then did one today from home.

Welcome Pudwick! Sorry to have been MIA...new job has me crazy busy, not to mention a 5 YO at home and husband I'm helping out start up a new business. Talk about no time.

I'll play catch up over the weekend.

Here is my latest. Had GREAT success smoothing out my white BC, but didn't have such great success smoothing out the purple BC. Was very dissappointed in that. Also, my shell border was rushed and it didn't look as nice as I wanted. I think my icing was too thin, also. And, I lost all my couplers and more than half of my tips. I think they accidently got thrown out or something b/c I couldn't find them anywhere in my house so I had to use what limited tips I had; hence, the no frills decoration. The only round tip I had was a number 1 or 2 and an 8. The 8 was too big and the 1/2 was too small. My hand was shaking trying to write/squeeze with that small of a tip. I suppose I should have thinned out my icing a little more for the writing.

This was a freebie so nothing was done to the cake board, and with all that I had going on that week, I honestly didn't have time to get ribbon's or make fondant to cover the board. They were happy nonetheless and probably didn't know anything was missing. This was for a friend's daughter in lieu of a gift.

Hi all, sorry I've been gone for so long. We spent nearly a month in hotel as the tenants decided not to leave at the house we were going to rent. My DH thought that maybe it would be a good idea to buy instead but I couldn't find anything I wanted. I either love the house and not the location or vice versa. We finally found another rental and moved in at the beginning of this month and I'm still in the process of unpacking. I'll try to get to some of the cakes I missed and I also wanted to say welcome to some of our newbies. It's great being back on CC. I've missed it! icon_smile.gif

I'm still alive all! I'm trying to catch up. I am in the middle of my busy cake season with USN cakes and two wedding cake coming up with two kids b-day cakes right smack in the middle. I'm quite overwhelmed at the moment. When I get a chance I will post the two I have just recently done.

Loving what I'm seeing from everyone though!!!

I know this is off topic but I can't post in the public forums. I need some guidance.

This morning I logged onto CC and 3 of my photos are scrolling on the home page. I clicked on the one photo and here my boss is loading the photos under the bakery's name.

I feel slighted. Should I? Should I just let it go. Isn't the gallery for the maker of the cake. Not for the bakery? Do I do something? It seems pretty odd to have two different people loading the same images. What would you do?

Thanks guys,
Stacey

Wow, shill. Just my PERSONAL opinion, but those are your cakes. You made them- they belong to you. I do believe that CC is intended for posting your personal cakes, not for someone to post on behalf of someone else, even if that is your employer. I think it is wrong. I take credit for my work at my job. I do it- I get the credit for my artistic value. They can put it in their books and website and such, but it belongs to me because I executed the idea into cake. Again- just my opinion. I would feel slighted as well.

Stacey - personally, I would be more than upset. I agree with Sylly 100%. Let us know what you decide to do.

Here is my monster cake, finally! http://www.cakecentral.com/cake-photo_1419695.html I didn't do the board for a couple of reasons...the number one reason was I didn't have enough time, but the deciding factor was this was a freebie. Anyway, they just picked it up and were very pleased. I have to say I am more than pleased with how the flames came out. I was afraid to put the flames on the car in fear I would mess it up or the colors would bleed and it would look awful come tomorrow when they go to serve it. Thanks for looking!

First - Shill when I read your post my initial response was 'wow - they've got nerve'. I would be upset too, this site is meant for the creators of the cakes to showcase their work not others to take credit for it. Good luck with what ever you decide to do about it.

Second - here is a cake that I ended up doing last minute this week. You'll see in the description but basically my husband came home on Wednesday night and asked if I could do this cake for a co-workers birthday Friday morning. I have two little ones at home so can only bake/decorate after they've gone to bed in the evenings so I ended up baking and making icing/ganache on Wednesday and decorating Thursday. http://www.cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=gallery&file=displayimage&pid=1420937&done=1

Thanks guys! I really appreciate the support.

Here's my latest cake. Did this one from home for my friend who was hosting a baby shower.

There were a lot of firsts here. First time airbrushing a cake. First time using my crimper. First time painting on the tier. And first time doing delicate piping work on the side of the cake.

I noticed too late, Piglet is too big. The crimping on the top tier is kind of wonky and makes the top tier look like it isn't level. Oh well.... Overall I LOVE IT!

Hey guys!! Here's a cake that I did this weekend. It's a replica of a pink cake box cake. when you read the comment on the pictures, you will understand why my bottom tier is a little wrinkly. It's my first topsy turvy ever!! Oh, the top tier, for some reason, me and 6" cakes don't get along!!
