icon_twisted.gificon_twisted.gif Ahh mkolmar little by little us Aussies are taking over the world icon_lol.gificon_lol.gif A cockatiel, how cute, does he have red rounds on his face too one on each cheek. There is quite a variety of colours but I love the yellow ones. I'm pretty sure you can teach them to talk too. We have different varieties wild around here. I hope Coco keeps his/her Aussie accent icon_wink.gif
Think I might have to try this beer can chicken Kay, except most of our beer comes in glass bottles now, hmm oh well I guess I'll just have to make a major sacrifice and see what comes in cans nowadays. Of course we'll have to taste test first, the things we do for great food icon_biggrin.gif
Ohara hope your DD is feeling better and your getting some sleep.
Well we had our fancy dress party, some people have amazing imaginations and others just couldn't be bothered. It was a fun night we had a slushie machine, juke box, a guy drew us all in cartoon form (I think I look better that way LOL). We had finger food during the night and all the tables had boxes full of chocolates or chips and of course there was the cake made by ME of course. I was quite happy with it, here's the link
http://www.cakecentral.com/cake-photo_1251612.html
Well now I'm working very hard on my competition cake which is due in 2 weeks.
Tonight we're having Tasty Spaghetti which is a BBQ chicken in tomato based sauce and spaghetti, an easy meal for DD and DS to take to work tonight.
Last night we had roast pork and baked vegetables, yummo.
Hope everyone is well
Talk to you again soon.

Coco the bird is doing good. She's a female so she is not as vocal, I don't think she'll ever learn how to talk (may be wrong though) She's a pail yellow with a pale gray and bright orange cheeks. She is cute, but she sure does poop a lot icon_confused.gif It's my DH's so he takes care of her and cleans the cage.
Right now DH is at the park with all 4 kids and I'm here at home so I'll make this post quick since I want to work on a practice cake (a fake one).
Dinner tonight was italian marinated chicken, brandy with mushroom marinated steak, green beans, sauted squash with onion and french baguettes. I just pulled a cherry with pineapple and walnut crisp out of the oven.
Yesterday I made a peach cobbler
Hope you are all well.

Ok I have been in CAKE HELL-O I have baby shower cakes this weekend..

So I made Cheesy Scalloped potaoes and ham for supper.. I cheated and used boxed potatoes and added the ham icon_lol.gif

Hey K2 I know you are vegan so beer can chicken would definatly be strange to you LOL But basically it is a whole chicken rinsed and dried.. Take 3/4 a can of beer or pop add some herbs and spices to the can, stick it in the rear of the chicken and put it on the grill or oven to cook. I also put a rub on the outside of the chicken. The steam from the liquid cooks the inside and the heat from grill or oven cooks the outside.. It is so moist and YUMMY.. There are recipes on recipe zaar.com and allrecipes.com It is so YUMMY

foxymumma - yup our soda comes in cans, good thinking. BTW loved that link you posted.
Janine - I wish we had courses like you're doing anything vaguely like that costs a bomb, which I don't have, and it would take me forever to get there. So glad your enjoying yours.
mklomar - Don't give up on Coco talking we had a female budgie who wouldn't stop. Thank goodness you don't have to clean the cage but who feeds her hmmm.
K2cakes - oven roasted garlic broccoli, sounds really yummy I love broccoli can you share how you make it please.
Kay - what are boxed potatoes? I thought they came out of the ground icon_lol.gif we don't have boxed ones here, sounds gourmet to me.
Ohara - where are you??? I think the cobwebs just blew over to your chair, watch out for the big spiders icon_razz.gif

Tonight we had chicken scnitzel, corn on the cob, broccoli (not garlic roasted icon_sad.gif ) zucchini and carrots.
Last night was porterhouse steak, mushroom sauce, and same vegies

Hi Everyone-

Its been forever since I spoke to you all last, my chair is as dusty as the
rest of my house icon_surprised.gif !

First things first, Ohara asked for the recipe for Bourbon Chicken a while back, so here it goes compliments of recipezaar:
2 lbs boneless chicken breasts, cut into bite-size pieces
1-2 tablespoon olive oil
1 garlic clove, crushed
1/4 teaspoon ginger
3/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
1/4 cup apple juice
1/3 cup light brown sugar
2 tablespoons ketchup
1 tablespoon cider vinegar
1/2 cup water
1/3 cup soy sauce
Directions
1Heat oil in a large skillet.
2Add chicken pieces and cook until lightly browned.
3Remove chicken.
4Add remaining ingredients, heating over medium Heat until well mixed and dissolved.
5Add chicken and bring to a hard boil.
6Reduce heat and simmer for 20 minutes.
7Serve over hot rice and ENJOY.
I mixed a little cornstarch and water and added it at the end to make the sauce thicker.

Hope everyone is doing well.

Lets see foodwise on Sunday we just had wings, hamburgers, mac salad and dips, some of the family was missing, youngest is an executive sous
chef now and work comes first sometimes icon_rolleyes.gif . Monday chicken caccitorie in the crockpot, Tuesday Chicken and dumpling soup and homemade paninis, and tonight BBQ Chicken in the crockpot over rice.

Talk to you all soon
Take care
Michele

Hello table family, yes it's been a while for me since I've been to the table. I have no idea where the time has gone. Life has been full of changes, and more coming with school starting in one week. I really like my life to have more routine than it does right now.
My MIL and her friend have been here for a week now. They will be leaving in the morning. We have had a nice visit, but it has been hectic week. DH had a birthday on Monday the 11th and oldest DD has a birthday on Sunday. I have baked and baked. I have made chocolate chip cookies, angel food cake, a large German chocolate cake, lemon cake and creme brulee. All for here. We have had a family party, a friends party and tonight we had another family dinner out.
I have also cooked.
We had chili 5 ways
BBQ beef sandwiches, coleslaw and chips
Beef stroganoff with buttered noodles, peas, cottage cheese and French bread
Spaghetti with meat sauce
Italian beef sandwiches
We ate out tonight we had Italian food

Mewie....thank you for the recipe. It sounds really good. I will try it in the near future.

Janine....I am sorry to hear that you and your son are feeling poor. I hope both of you are better real soon. How is your class going. I am looking forward to seeing some of your class work. I think you will make a great teacher. You have a kind heart and gentle spirit.
My dd is feeling some better. Each day is different, but she isn't feeling bad every day all day long.

Sparkle....I wanted to see a picture of you dressed as Scarlett O'hara! Thanks for the spider warning. I'm not a big fan of them. icon_wink.gif I am enjoying the Olympics as well. It's awesome that people around the world are all watching.

Kay....How is Mike's health? Are things still the same at his work? I hope you are taking care of yourself.

K2....hope all is well with you and yours.

foxymomma...glad to have you at the table. Sounds like you all are eating good at your house.

Melissa....Do your kids start school soon? What are you going to do with yourself when school starts? Not that you don't deserve a little slower time. It sounds like the bird is fitting in well at your house.

Well ladies, sorry this is so long and that's it's been soooo long since I posted. I will do better now that summer is winding down. I'm thankful for you all.

Hi everyone ((( echo )))... Wow! I get the table all to myself tonight... heh heh... no having to say "pass the peas, please"... so long manners~ icon_lol.gif

tonight was:
rice pasta and homemade tomato sauce
sauted mushrooms w/ red and orange peppers
sauted soy sausage

Sparklepop ~ oven roasted broccoli is super easy. All you do is chop us some fresh broccoli, put in a big bowl, add chopped garlic and steak seasoning and toss with a bit of olive oil to coat. Mix well. Bake at 450 degrees for about 15-20 min. The broccoli chars and acheives this lovely nutty flavor! It's incredible!

I hope everyone is well tonight. I'll write more later... Monday we're taking the kiddo to this "amusement" park in ME called "FUNTOWN/SPLASHTOWN USA"... all I'm saying is it better live up to it's name... icon_razz.gif

DUSTING OFF MY CHAIR LOL

Ok it has been an insane week...First off one kid started school YEAH!!!! Other one starts on Monday YEAH AGAIN!!!!! Also I may have a huge wedding cake for next month. I made a surprise 40th B-Day cake last Nov. The B-Day girl LOVED her cake.. Ok so fast forward...I have let our land line go and only doing cell's.. So she wasn't able to reach me. So through some searching she got me..YEAH!! She is having a BIG BAD WEDDING and wants me to do her cake.. I am alittle scared.. I have only done my Wilton course 3 and 4 class fondant/gumpaste cakes and a small garden wedding cake. And it was done in BC.. So I am a litlle worried..

Ok what did we eat??
Meatloaf, cheesy mashed potaotes, fresh corn cut off the cob

Tuna noodle casserole

Tonight it was just Mike and I so we just snacked.. Cause I was working on a naughty male cake (wink wink)

I hope to be back to the table soon..

*cough, cough, cough* Well, all the dust on my chair is making me choke. Guess I better dust this off before I sit down. AAAHHHH, there is that big spider you were all talking about.

Lets see...tonight is DD 5th birthday so she'll pick what we'll have for dinner.
Yesterday was her birthday party so we had hot dogs with all the fixings, western BBQ pork steak (I made the BBQ sauce--it's so good if I do say so myself icon_wink.gif ), veggies with dip, grilled corn on the cob, baked beans, pasta salad, cucumber-tomato salad, and assorted individual chip bags.
For dessert was birthday cake, cupcakes and ice cream.

Ohara-My kids start school Sept. 2nd. When does our daughter start?
Kay- That's so cool that she tracked you down so you could make her cake. I'm sure it will be beautiful.
K2-I'll cook for you anytime girl. How was the park? Did it live up to it's name?
Mewie- How's NY treating you? Thanks for posting that recipe, it's sounds wonderful.
Janine-I hope you are all felling better soon. If lived by you I would deliver home made chicken noodle soup to help you get better (and of course some form of sweets)
Foxy-Hey, I'll take my filet medium thank you. Oh and I love broc. with cheese and mashed potatoes so make sure to pile it up high on my plate.
icon_wink.gif I'll be right over!
Sparkle-How is the competition cake coming along?

Well, I'll be gone next week table friends for my cake class a few states away. I hope it goes well. I know of 2 other CC members going so we hope to have dinner together one night.

Hope you crazy ladies are having a great day!

Hello everyone,

Tonight was my favorite (but I say that a lot...)
Vegan "eggs - n- bacon"
Pan fried tofu coated in nutritional yeast and salt/pepper
veggie canadian bacon, broiled
peas ('cause we are out of broccoli)

Husband and kiddo had bread, but alas... I did not, for it is the enemy. icon_mad.gif

Ohara I hope you had a fabulous birthday!!!! You are a wonderful person with a big heart--God bless you to many more.

I only have a moment but I wanted to tell you all that I had a great time in TN at the cake classes. Nicholas Lodge and Colette Peters are very nice. I even got to hang out with Colette a few nights with some other ladies who took the class. We even all drank a few glasses of wine together and ate dinner. I didn't even realize how cool it was until I just posted it here.
I met Karateka there also, we took the same classes but she started in Nick Lodges class first and I started in Colette's. She is so nice and her cake was beautiful that she completed in class. She sure is talented.
It's late so I have to run. I'll post pictures when I get a chance. have a gerat night my cake friends.

Hello table friends.

Things are going ok here. I have been busy with summer coming to a close. My daughter started school on Aug 21. Trying to get into a routine. It is a different schedule since she started middle school. Where has the time gone? I am having a hard time with my "baby" growing up. She will be 12 in October....which means in 1 year I will have a teenager (again). icon_cry.gif
Her bus comes at 7:00am. Our morning starts early. We will get into a good routine soon.

I have also been catering. We did a box lunch delivery for a meeting of 200. They we so happy with our work, they contacted us and wants to use us for more meeting through out the year. I am very excited about that. They were good customers to work for, always a good thing.

Today we are leaving to go out of state for the weekend. My brother (47 yrs old) is getting married for the first time. It will be a very exciting family weekend. I am so happy for him. The only sad part is that my mother did not live to see this. She always worried about him being alone in this world. She would be thrilled. We always miss her, but her absence will be felt even more for this celebration. My youngest DD will help with wedding programs and bubbles. She is getting her hair done on Saturday with her two younger cousins, my sisters girls are the flower girls. The girls are all excited to get dressed up and get their hair done.
No I am not making the cake, and yes I'm ok with that. We are traveling in the car for over 5 hours and today should be 91 again.

Melissa.....can't wait to see the pic from you cake class. I sounds like you had an awesome time. What a great experience for you. Are your kids liking school? Your house must seem quiet with them gone.

Janine...girl you are crazy busy. Are you still in classes? I know the competition is coming up on the 16th, have you decided on an idea for that cake?

K2...just hate when insomnia hits. I hope you are sleeping better. It is so hard to be the mommy with little sleep.

Kay....how are things with you? How is Mike doing? You are always so busy.

Sparkle....how are you....you must be busy as you have been gone a while. I hope all is well in oz. How are the in laws. Congratulations on your competition cake.

We have eaten.....
Last night we had chili 5 ways
Wednesday we had hot dogs for dinner icon_redface.gif We had soccer pictures and so it was what we had.
Tuesday we had chicken spaghetti
Monday we went out.

Be well my friends.

Hey all... I guess we're all fasting this week, huh? Are we now all svelte and ready to put on our best (in my case imaginary) "little black dress"... icon_razz.gif Unless I have a reason, I'm usually in jeans ~ although I like sundresses. ANYWAY ~ icon_confused.gif

Ok, so why did I just launch into this inane, superficial conversation...
Oh yeah, I'm distracting myself from the ever-growing family drama... that IS my family. (husband and child NOT included, they're AWESOME.) I'll spare you the details, it's really messy. icon_cry.gif BUT I find the humor in most things these days... gotta keep that sense of humor, right? icon_lol.gif

Anywho ~ I can't even remember what I ate 6 hours ago... maybe cardboard for all I know... icon_confused.gif (I'll be less self-absorbed next time.)

Melissa ~ please, would love to see the cakes and hear the details... how cool to learn from such masters!

We did make it to Funtown, finally. It was really fun. I hate things that spin, but I sucked it up to go on the round-a-bout (I know, I'm a rebel) Oh, and the antique cars too! What a big girl to go on the FAST tea-cup ride from HELL with Dad... think it took off a few years for me to watch! icon_eek.gif
Can I post a pic here of our trip??? Is that acceptable?

I LOVE THIS THREAD ~ you all make me smile and I look forward to checking this when I'm online. (did I OD on the emoticons, or what??)
Take care everyone ~ thanks for letting me vent. icon_smile.gif

uggg, my computer is messing up.
K2-I hope your family issues clear up. If you need to vent we totally understand or you can just pm me or anyone else.

My computer is acting up so I'm having issues posting the pictures of the class on here.

Ohara-how was the wedding?

I hope everyone else is doing well too. Sorry to be so short today while posting. I'm crazy busy right now with kids and the house. icon_cry.gif Last night was eggs, toast, fruit and yogurt.

I'm sick with Bronchitis right now so that's why all my posts have been short. Just don't feel like typing. I finally went to the DR. after 4 weeks of being sick. icon_redface.gif oops, should have went sooner.

Tonight was BBQ boneless pork ribs, grilled corn on the cob, grilled pineapple, applesauce, yeast rolls, roasted red skinned potatoes, cucumber and tomato sliced and marinated in Italian dressing, spinach salad and brownies topped with a layer of melted chocolate.

Hope everyone is happy and healthy...hope you are all eating too. Those little black dresses K2 was talking about will be too big soon if you all don't start eating again icon_surprised.gificon_lol.gif .

I can barely keep my eyes open right now. I'm so tired. I'll take that soup now K2.

Geesh, everyone else must be starving themselves tonight. I'm worried about you all. When I get better I'll have to come cook for everyone just to make sure you are all eating. Air fair will be expensive, but hey....if Janine or Sparkle ever win the lotto we'll be alright there. icon_lol.gif

Tonight was baked chicken strips tossed with baby spinach, sunflower seeds, cheese and dressing and put in a tortilla wrap. My MIL made some fruit cobbler also and brought it over.
The kids had soup, sandwiches and chicken.

I was elected Treasurer of the ACF chapter I belong to. Each term in office is for 2 years. I'm so worried I'm going to screw up. I hope I don't. I really didn't want to be elected but it happened anyway. Not even 20 minutes after being brought into the office we had a meeting because some massive changes will take place. AAAGGGG.

Well a sad hi from me. My MIL passed away on the 3rd. We were told she didn't have long to go but we've been told many times before. Even though we expected it, it is still a shock. So all of a sudden we have to organise a funeral, make a 1001 phone calls and organise a wake and cause it was lunchtime we had to cater for 50 people. I never realised how hungry going to a funeral made people, we had so much food and it just disappeared. One amazing thing is people are sympathetic for a couple of days then they expect you to be back on track, it's hard when you're mind isn't really focusing on anything in particular. My FIL didn't believe it for 24 hours but amazingly he is very lucid and told us people who we should let know and things we should do, but it was very hard to see a poor frail old man in tears, that was the heart wrencher for me.
Naturally I'm busy as anything 2 cakes on for this weekend, cake dec meeting Saturday and Sunday my youngest DS is in a competition against other schools called Tournament of the Minds, which they won the 1st round and now they're competing against the elite schools in the game.
Anyway supper has been lots of frozen food and a bit of take away.
Tonight we had pies from the bakery.
Hope everyone is well and I'll go back and read the previous posts later.
Lyn

Hello table friends....

Sparkle....I just want to say how sorry I am for your loss. Even when doctors tell us and people are older, it is never easy! Isn't it amazing how hungry funerals make people. I agree with you on the idea that people will give you a couple of days, then you are expected to carry on as usual icon_confused.gif I remember after my mom died feeling the same way.((((HUGS))))
I hope you have a good weekend, sounds like you need one.

Melissa.....I hope you feel better soon. You need to take care of yourself. You will do great being treasurer. I think you could do anything. Your chicken wraps sound really yummy. How are your kids settleing into school?

Kay...always busy girl. I hope that you are taking care of yourself. It's almost the season for you (your twin got a head start this year) to be sick.

K2....I don't live to far south of Melissa, so could you drop some chicken soup off here also?! I'm sorry that you are dealing with family "stuff". And as Melissa said, feel free to vent here or to us personally at any time.

Janine....I hope all are well at your house. I know you must be busy. How was the cake contest? Let us know.

The wedding was good. It was a lot of work for my sister and I, but my brother had a great day, and that was what it was all about for me. He had a huge smile on his face for the entire time. Well except when my dad went through the receiving line right in front of us and said to my brother (choked up of course) " there's a very happy mother in heaven today" That was all it took and my brother completely lost it. Our oldest brother was next in the line and my newly married brother just stood there and held on to him and cried. We all missed her greatly all day.
I do have to say that the cake was a grocery store basic. It was very moist, however the icing was so yuck, it left an awful after taste in your mouth. I of course got to cut the cake, a job that I hate. The layers were so tall, they didn't fit on the cake plates. I think that they used 3" layers so the bottom square was over 6" tall. So it was a difficult cake to serve to say the least. And of course there was so much cake left over.

My dd is trying to settle into school. It is a big change for her, she moved to the middle school this year. So everything is new for her. The teachers in the special ed class room do things different, not that that's bad, just an adjustment for her. A lot of new responsibilities for her.

Dealing with more drama with the oldest dd (20yr old). I won't go into detail, but always takes it's toll on me. Some days I just don't want to be the mama anymore.
Oldest son (23yr old) decided to go back to college. He actually went and enrolled and signed up for classes. He went right out of high school....and had way to much fun and not much learning
icon_surprised.gif We are hoping that it goes better this time. This time around he has to pay for it, and we will reimburse him all his money for A's and B's and then a percentage for C's and he's on his own for anything else. We decided we will pay for an education, just not the party! I wish we could have our money back for his freshman year.....oh well, live and learn.

We have eaten....let's see if I remember any of it.
Monday night we had pizza

Tuesday night it was cool here so I made the first pot of soup for the season.

Wednesday I didn't cook, I went out with my girlfriends. We are planning our winter getaway. We now have a date and a destination. thumbs_up.gif

Thursday, dd had soccer practice so we ate out, I had a salad.

I will try to check in more regular. I have missed you all. I don't know what tonight's dinner is but I do know that it entails a bottle of white zinfandel. icon_wink.gif
Have a good one.

Sparkle--I'm so sorry for your loss. It's never easy when someone passes. Sending loving thoughts and prayers your way.

Ohara-my kids are doing alright at school so far. They are doing pretty good getting up and out the door on time. It's me who's suffering getting up and packing lunches plus backpacks and doing mommy work when I'm still half asleep. How is your daughter doing in school this year so far? Hopefully, your son will do good this time in school too. It always makes a difference when you have to pay for it.

Kay- My goodness I'm going to put a pink cape on your back. All that swooshing around your doing. Hope your doing well girl.

Janine--How was your cake contest?

K2--I just made a big plate of potatoes in your honor since I know your not eating them. Are you still hoola-hooping? how's the vegan mmf going?

When I get some time I'll post a link with the pictures of the cake class on it. I learned a lot. I'll have to take up a whole page on here to write what I learned. Mind you I have lots to learn so I wrote down everything.

Tonight I had dental work done so my mouth is sore. Dinner was soup and bread. I did fry up some potatoes with cheese all over it and some eggs for DH also.
