Great news Monika! I hope it works out for you guys.

I was bad yesterday & ate 2 M&M brownies. The chocolate festival is this Saturday, so I have to be super extra good this week because I can not be in a convention center full of chocolate and not eat it icon_biggrin.gif

Okay ladies how are we doing with the water?? Are we hanging in there. Weekends are always the worst for me because things are always so chaotic. With a full house it's easy for me to lose focus. So hubby has left town for the week and today I am starting over. If I can just get a few days under my belt then I know I can stay on track.

So I got a new quote for ya,........ what do you think of this one. I might put this one on the fridge!!

Your goals minus your doubts equals your reality!!!!!

I dont know why I have lost so much gusto for the diet portion! But this morning I was at the gym sweating, out of breath and about to keel over and I realized all of that work only burned off the girl scout cookies I ate yesterday! Life seems so cruel! you can ingest 500 at lightning speed but you have to work soooo hard to burn it off. I am ready to start fresh again here! No cheating for me today. hopefully icon_rolleyes.gif ! We are going to FL next month and I have a little work to do to comfortably fit into some of my summer attire. I really want to do it! NO MORE COOKIES! NO MORE COOKIES! NO MORE COOKIES!

OH NO IT'S GIRL SCOUT SEASON?!!!! icon_surprised.gificon_cry.gif I can usually avoid those - not that I'm not for supporting little girls - but my husband will spend $50 easy then bring them all home where I get to sit and try to will myself not to eat an entire box in ten minutes. Arrgghhhh, I'm going to have to add clean out the freezer to my to do list. Thank heavens I don't like to eat frozen cookies. thumbs_up.gif

D-I-E-t ~~~~ the first three letters really says it all!!

Girl scout cookies, aww man , I love me some girl scout cookies. Especially the thin mints, and the samoas . Who could blame ya. Well atleast you got to the gym!

So how exactly is everyone trying to lose the weight? Are you just watching what you eat or are you following any plan? Is it working?? I mean when you stick to it? lol

I'm trying to follow weight watchers cause thats what worked for me before. I can still have everything I want so long as I count my points for it. And I still lost weight even when I wasnt getting in enough exercise. Oh why oh why did I let it creep back up on me. ugh icon_cry.gif

yup girl scout season. I only bought two boxes though! Actually I would rather have something other than cookies....but I still like em a lot!

I have been trying to do the south beach diet. The first week I lost like 4.5 pounds! I was just amazed. But then it stopped and I guess I felt like I needed a treat for working so hard for a couple of weeks. I had a big meal and gained like 2 pounds. From there it has been a struggle. But I am doing really well on my exercise right now. I am proud of that. I just need to figure out how to bring diet and exercise together better. It seems like I can only focus on one thing and only for so long. I still think a nice treat now and then is justified for helping to keep you from giving up. But I need to learn how to keep that one treat from turning into two or three or four treats.

I think that's the thing Everyone has to figure out. I'm the same way I can be a die hard gym goer but as soon as I try to add in a diet I whimp out on the gym then eventually I feel deprived and martyred and end up flat on my butt all over again.

I've been trying to do things in baby steps. I've got walking the dog down to a necessity (for both of us) so I can't abandon it. Now I'm just trying to eat a good balanced breakfast every day until it's just natural. Also knowing myself a little better these days, I'm trying to focus on what to eat more than what "not" to eat so I don't slip into self pity eating. I keep reminding myself of Tuesday. She said it took her TWO years.....but look at her now. icon_surprised.gifthumbs_up.gif If I'm going to be in it for the long haul it's going to have to be little steps and a long term mindset. AND alot of support from you all icon_biggrin.gif

Hey ladies, I'm home from the hospital!! Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers, they must have worked, because the surgery went GREAT!! The disc had rubbed part of the nerve cover off, but the doctor said if it had gone much longer, it would have started leaking spinal fluid. Argh!! But he got in in time and 'glued' a patch to it. icon_eek.gificon_surprised.gif The pain from the nerve is totally gone, I'm just sore from the surgery now. As part of my recovery, I'm supposed to walk as much as I can, so as I heal, I'll be working on my weight as well.
DH is so funny, he said, "So in about 6 weeks, we can start doing Tae Bo together, right?" WHAT?!! icon_surprised.gif No way, I won't be able to do that kind of workout for at least 3 months!!! But at least he's being supportive. I just sent him to the store for my Percocet and Valium. icon_lol.gif
Thanks again for all the good thoughts. I've gotten much more support from you guys than some of my real life "friends"!!! thumbs_up.gif

I've been both watching what I eat and increasing my cardio workouts. For the past little while I've been lifting weights and getting on the treadmill a few times a week. Since really getting serious about this, I have increased my treadmill to 5 times a week, but unfortunately I haven't been able to get to the gym to lift so much anymore. I admit that is partly because I am staying home to treadmill (we have one in the basement) instead of going to the gym because I know that will help more with my attempt to lose weight than lifting will.

My other focus has been on not snacking my way through the day, which is where the food journal really helps. Being a SAHM, I am tempted to, and often do, nibble on this & that all day long. It has taken all my willpower to change that habit, and that is still a huge struggle for me. Huge. I'm feeling a little annoyed with this diet thing right now - I still want to lose weight, but I don't want to diet anymore icon_rolleyes.gif I think the next 2 weekends aren't helping my mood either; the Chocolate Festival this weekend & DS's birthday party next Saturday. I'm getting kind of stressed about all I have to do, and just want to eat everything!!

I need to focus!!

I know this is hard for EVERYBODY, but do you other SAHM's think we have it even harder still. What I mean is we are around food ALL DAY LONG. I catch myself eating sometimes mostly just out of habit. I have tried to get on track for weeks now and would head over to the pantry and just grab something and pop it into my mouth without even thinking about it. I think it almost becomes a habit!

Anyhow today makes two good days under my belt. I was at the grocery store and they had lean cuisines on sale for like $1.49 so I loaded up. thumbs_up.gif

~~Lisa, papa john came to my house this weekend. he helped me blow my diet!! LOL Dont give up the weights, muscle burns fat!!!!!!!! Stupid me has both the crossbow and a treadmill and all I do is throw them dirty looks. I wish they sold willpower in a magic little pill.

Hi Eveyone, glad to read your thoughts about this thing called diet.
I had back surgry 2 years ago and it didn't go to well. since then I have gained 45 pounds. yuck icon_cry.gif well now it is time to take it off. I am trying this new diet called the 3 hour diet. been on it 2 weeks lost 7 pounds.
the book says you are suppose to lose 2 lbs a week. the hardest part is eating all the food they want you to eat. I have never been a really big eater. just can't walk very long at a time.so very little excerise.

I do that too. Stand in the pantry and eat three of something and realize as I swallow what I've just done. Boredome is a big one too. I notice I snack a lot less on those crazy hectic days when I'm so busy I don't have time to think.

I have a question....Do you all get hungrier after you exercise? In my gung ho gym days I always finished up just before lunch so it wasn't so noticeable, but now that I'm walking after dinner I notice I'm hungry again around 8:00. Hungry like could contemplate a second dinner, not just snacks. I need some ideas how to counter this newest problem - and unfortunately rescheduling the walk isn't an option

Welcome tabby235. If you decide to stick around you'll find a great support group here thumbs_up.gif

I definitely think dieting is harder for SAHMs!! You can't get away from the kitchen!! My best trick is to go to work with no cash so I can't hit the vending machines. I was a SAHM for a short time and ballooned up to my heaviest. I feel for you ladies!!
Well, it's no cheat Wednesday! I'm at the mercy of whatever DH chooses to cook for a while, but at least I can control my snacking. It's DS's birthday today and he's requested steak and baked potatoes for dinner, so I guess it could be worse (like last night when DH made fried fish sticks, shrimp, fries and hush puppies!!! icon_surprised.gificon_surprised.gif He literally cooked EVERYTHING in the deep fryer!!) It was gooooooood, though... icon_redface.gif

icon_surprised.gif oh my, deep fried everything!!! icon_rolleyes.gif Men, seem to do that hu?
Oh well, at least you can't claim respoinsibility for making all those fried foods.

I do also believe sahm's have it tougher because like you said, it's always there! Lurking in every cabinet, drawer, pantry and shelf. Snacking when you hand your kids something always stings me as well as mindless snacking while I am making dinner!!! Leave it to me to eat when I am cooking something to eat!!!! icon_rolleyes.gificon_cry.gificon_wink.gif

I will say though that my husband goes to eat way more than I do. You know everyone is going out for lunch or they have a 'lunch meeting' or whatever. I think it is harder in the fact that I could literally eat at any time, but if the food isnt here, then I cant eat it. Generally I wont go out to lunch or have people bringing me donuts or cookies like they do at work. So I dont know....It is ALWAYS a struggle...no matter where you are.

I totally think that if/when I go back to work I'll be able to lose weight easier because I won't be eating or be tempted to eat all day. Even if I'm not nibbling on cookies or brownies or cake, there's always something around to munch on. And I do eat out of habit and out of boredom. I try to drink water when I get the munchies, but lately I've been eating instead icon_cry.gif

My DH LOVES the deep fryer!! He would cook everything in it if he could. Well, he does love to grill too, so he'd make some kind of meat on the grill & then fry a few things to go with it. His latest thing is fried green beans - he got the idea from TGIFridays & they're really good. It's still a vegetable, right???
