Well I've lost 1/2 a pound. I haven't done much to change my ways these days so at least I moved in the right direction.

I would happily take over cheerleader this week. I may have to dig deep to find my own motivation but for some reason it's easier if I'm not doing it just for me. Sad, but true.

I'll be back later with a challenge, I too need a shot of caffeine to get the blood flowing.

I just totally forgot it was weigh in day! I did weigh myself this morning, the same for the last couple of weeks which was 148.6. This is up 5 pounds from my lowest awhile back though. I need to focus!

I was thinking my stress was causing my neck and shoulder pain yesterday, (maybe it is) but now I can hardly do anything. I didnt end up having my class last night because of a SNOW STORM! So I am thinking my stress will be alleviated and I will feel better. Not so. Now I am getting stressed out about the pain I am in becasue I have a lot I need to get done, but now I jsut dont think I can do it right now. Sorry for the vent. It is like a vicious circle. So I jsut havent been concentrating on the diet and exercise thing. Instead I am feeling guilty about not doing it, which probably is causing more stress. I am walking around with my head turned to the side and my shoulder elevated because it feels better like that. LOL! I must look so stupid. Now I forgot I have to bring snack into preschool today, so I better go to the grocery store to pick something up. HELP!

Okay it's challenge time ladies. I'm going for something different so bare with me. My first challenge is in honor of my mother and all her health problems. Osteoperosis, Rhumatoid (sp) Arthritis, a mild touch of Diabetes and to top it all off a belly full of Gall stones. So to help us remember it's about healthy living I'm challenging all of us to take our daily vitamins and drink your milk.
Wow now I know why I try not to think about all her problems, it's a bit overwhelming AND Very scary - all those I just listed, except the gall stones, are hereditary. (Big Sigh)

On to Challenge number two. I read an article on the web last week about 8 things thin people do (I'll see if I can find it again and post the link) A couple of them were kind of an eye opener for me. The biggest one was not panicing when you get hungry. As soon as I feel a hunger pang I devise a plan to eat something, actually afraid to wait too long. I personally think this is something I learned from when I was pregnant. You know if you get too hungry when your pregnant it quickly turns into naseau. So the challenge is as soon as you feel hungry stop and give yourself a time limit to wait it out. I've found in about 15/20 minutes it will either subside or get more annoying and I know it's true hunger.

So that's it. Pick one of them or try them both. And finally, A quote from the book I'm reading "Few things are as tough as they first appear."

Merisa I'm a long time sufferer of neck, shoulder pain. I actually have Xrays to show my head's not on straitght icon_lol.gif LOL. My uncle is a chiropractor and he passed on a secret to us. This also works for migrains and headaches behind the eyes. Run your fingers down the base of your neck to the point where it meets your shoulders, this is where your optic nerve is (or something like that) Now if you take an Ice pack and hold it on there it will numb that nerve and help to relieve the pressure that is building up in the surrounding nerves. Works like a charm, though if it's REALLY bad you may have to do it many times thru out the day.
Also, Do you clinch your jaw or grind your teeth? Make and effort to keep your tongue pressed to the roof of your mouth, can't clinch like that (Thank you Yoga for that one)
AND finally when was the last time you replaced your pillow?
Told you long time suferer I've done some homework. Hope this helps.
A friendly reminder for us all - IT'S YOUR JOB TO TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF, NOT JUST YOUR FAMILY!!

I've been reading this topic this morning at work. I still haven't gotten through the whole thing so will have to read more later.

Is it too late to join? I have been trying to lose weight for quite some time now. I have gone down from a size 14 to a size 8 but the weight is not coming off. I think I am gaining muscle mass instead of dropping weight. That is why WW, JC, and the like don't want you to exercise. You do not lose as much weight.

In November we decided to get rid of the car so now I am walking a few miles a day to and from bus stops. When the weather finally breaks I will be taking the other bus home and walking further.

My biggest problems are

1) I don't eat. I skip breakfast and most days lunch. I snack on candy and cookies and the like and drink up to 3 20-ounce bottles of Coke a day.

2) I have no exercise routine. I cannot get myself motivated to exercise. This may be because I give myself way too many excuses for not exercising. Just laziness.

3) I sit at a desk all day and do nothing.

4) I think I have a problem with the gloomy weather here. I am a transplant from Florida and I am going through a definate withdrawal from the sun here.

5) I need a support system. My husband is supportive but now that he is working nights and I am working during the day it is hard for me.

Will you accept me into the club several months later. It is Thursday so I will weigh in when I get home.

OF COURSE YOU'RE WELCOME!!!!!!
We gladly except new members, the theory being the bigger the group the more support. Our only rules (well guidlines) are to be honest and positive. We have a little system, your depth of participation is totally up to what you're comfortable with.
We have Weigh ins on Thursday. Regroup Mondays (after the long tempting weekend) No Cheat Wednesdays and once a week we have a group cheerleader to help keep us going. I'm this weeks and on next Thursday I will pass the torch to someone else.
I don't know that you need to read ALL the posts the last couple pages will get you acquainted.
Feel free to visit us as much as you want. I'm here daily and to the dismay of my laundry several times a day at that. Others just check in time and again, but there is always somebody willing to talk you down from a temptation or just listen to you cry over a slip up.

Welcome and don't be discouraged - Jump in where you're at!
PS - My name is Amber - but I answer to my screen name as well - like I said it's all about your comfort level.

Welcome, Otter!! Don't worry, you're not too late, many of us are still recovering from the winter blahs...almost like we're starting from scratch.

I love the challenges, Amber. I keep a bottle of vitamins in the medicine cabinet, but never think about taking them. Which is ridiculous because I KNOW I feel so much better when I take them. That's settled, I'm putting them with my blood pressure pills tomorrow, I (almost) always remember those. icon_rolleyes.gif
I like the idea of waiting when the hunger pangs hit, too. I was trying that at one point, but it's gone out the window. Time to bring it back!! Seriously, with all my back problems recently, I have actually gained 20 lbs since this group started. icon_cry.gificon_eek.gificon_surprised.gif
I tell myself that it's because of the steroids...that makes me feel better. icon_redface.gif

After being on those steroids for 10 days when I had that lung infection, HOLY COW I don't know how you didn't gain 50. I seriously couldn't shove the food in fast enough. I felt like one of those after school special movies about the girls who "purge" But before hand they would stuff themselve like a Christmas goose.
Just remember you're on the mend and in no time you'll be watching those pounds go back down. I have to ask, what's the secret to the hula hoop? I used to be able to do it really well. Do I just need to go fast enough? I can jump rope exactly 12 times before I tangle a leg up in the darn thing. I'm having fun though, makes me feel like a kid again.

Thanks, Bluehen92! I weighed in today after work. 164 lbs. Up five pounds from when I started in November.

I just need to keep remembering how everybody says how good I am looking and how I have lost weight. Even the other secretary grudgingly asked what kind of exercises I am doing.

I love the article, Amber! I don't really know about the hula hooping...I think you just have to get it going and stay in rhythm. I've never been able to manage a jump rope, though.
Hang in there, Otter! You've already made such an accomplishment, you can keep it going!
I'm so excited, my back is feeling SO MUCH better, my leg is hurting a lot, but that's just from the nerves healing. I'm going back to the doctor in 2 weeks and I HOPE he will release me to do some real exercise. I HATE walking! I miss Tae Bo SO much...I see REAL results so fast with it.

Otter - welcome, it's never too late to join. The more the merrier.

Amber - I can't hula hoop to save my life. I don't know how I did it when I was a kid. I can however jump rope and keep saying I should use ds everyday but never remember.

This morning I weighed 193.2 up some more =(
The gym near my sister's is doing a boot camp...3 days a week. Wish I could do it but it really is like boot camp and if I don't show the rest of the team pays, don't think I can commit to 3 days.

Goals

Just be better. I haven't been giving much effort lately.

LOL okay Shelly you were talking about Tae Bo so I have to ask where your children are when you do it? I had a friend who was in the middle of a work out when her four year old came up unexpectadly and she kicked him smack in the head. She'd caught a glimpse of him enough to pull back the force so he wasn't hurt but it was a LOOONG running joke after that. He kept telling everyone "If you aren't good mom'll kick you in your head"

Update on the jump roping I made it to 16 but I'm definately going to be switching into a sports bra. All the little (or not so little) things you forget about childhood. icon_lol.gif

Casey - hang in there spring is coming (I know the darn birds have hatched in my roof again). I'm betting on a renewed motivation with the sunshine.

LOL, Amber, we've had some close calls with the Tae Bo kicks. The only time I can do it uninterupted is to get up super early and do it before anyone gets up. My usual time is 5 am. ACK!! icon_surprised.gif

LOL at the sports bra!! Trust me, even when you don't have much, it sure does jiggle a LOT! I have a bigger problem with jiggles in the rear...I have to wear nice snug workout shorts. icon_lol.gificon_lol.gif

Thanks for the advice about the cold pack Amber. I was in tears by the time I got home from dropping my son off at preschool. i shouldnt have been driving, I couldnt turn my head to look for oncoming traffic. i am glad I made it home in one piece. Had to have my mom pick him up. I get this problem with my neck occasionally, and I am not really sure what it is. I dont know how some of you (shellie) are able to deal with this on an ongoing basis. I tried the cold pack and the hot pack and some leftover tylenol with codiene from the last time this happened. Nothing was really working. But the cold and the heat felt good while it was on. I managed to do my FBCT last night anyway. I feel a little better this morning, and I plan to try and take it easy when I can.

You guys are funny! I can not hula hoop anymore. I dont know why, but it just doesnt work anymore. And YES, sports bras are a definite MUST. Mine have shrunk a good deal since my 3 kids REALLy got the hang of breastfeeding and sucked the life out of them, but I dont want them hanging down any lower than they already are!

This weekend I hope to feel better and I am going to make out a plan for next week. Meals, exercise etc. I am really wanting to give this 100% again.

Shelbur10,

Glad to hear your back is feeling better. I read that you had hurt it.

How do you manage to be able to work out at home? I can't seem to find the motivation. I finally got the motivation to walk after I decided to let the car go. Finances, you know, had to sell it.

I carry all my exccess weight in my lower stomach. If I can just find a good work out plan that will do something about my stomach muscles!

Oh, I'm with you, Otter!! My whole lower half is my bad spot...lower belly, hips, thighs, and booty.
Honestly, I got motivated to work out at home about a year and a half ago, I had lost about 40 lbs., but was at a standstill. I was talking to a workout fanatic friend of mine and commented that I don't have time to work out. He said, "well, you just make time." For some reason, that really hit me. I started getting up early to do Tae Bo, and I really enjoy it, and you see results so fast, I really stayed motivated. I had to stop when I hurt my back and have gained almost all the weight back now.
If you want to try it, Tae Bo Cardio is a relatively easy workout, burns plenty of fat and tones ALL your muscles in record time.

I'm a victim of the lower body blues too =)

This is an interesting video. It's about 4 minutes long. What do you all think about this?

Get Off the Treadmill?

http://cosmos.bcst.yahoo.com/ver/225/popup/index.php?cl=2378860

It makes sense to me on both ends but essentially for a healthy heart you need cardio.

I completely disagree with this. I guess I shouldn't say that because of course it is possible to lose weight without doing cardio. Just do what that guys book says and limit your daily calorie intake to 1200 & keep a food journal to keep track of your calories. That's the key - just like with so many advertised weight loss things (the AbLounger comes to mind here), the fine print always says "when used with with enclosed diet plan." They hook you into buying whatever book or gadget they're selling and when you get it home and look more closely at it, you'll find that you have to change your eating habits too. I wish I could lose weight just by lifting 3 times a week and not sacrificing my cake & pizza icon_biggrin.gif

But the benefits of cardiovascular exercise can not be doubted. Even if we're just walking for 30 minutes a day, that will help our bodies in the long run.

Anyway - I guess I didn't need to bother weighing in this morning, because I'm still the same as I have been for the past month. Ugh. I wasn't expecting anything different this time though, considering all of the cookies & cake I ate icon_redface.gif I don't think I need to bake anything this week, so I'm a bit more hopeful.

Hmmm Not too sure about that No Cardio thing. The Cardiologist didn't have much to fight about it though, she didn't totally discredit it or explain why it wouldn't work. Which is enough to make me speculate that maybe the guy is on to something. But then there is my BIL, an Avid body builder, and he has high blood pressure, high choleterol, and a list of other unhealthy problems. Becuase though he spends 2 hours at the gym he never steps on a Cardio machine. Also my good friend gave up weights just before her wedding last summer and upped her cardio and that's when she started to see results. I think it all depends on what works for you, as long as your healthy who cares how you get there.

Now the big bad weekend is upon us and for my penance for slacking off on the computer ALL day yesterday I have vowed to scrub the house from top to bottom, which means I'll have to turn off all the distractions.
Before I do that, I wanted to leave you with this thought in regards to the "waiting out your hunger" challenge. When you have a craving or a temptation, or think you might be hungry close your eyes and say to yourself, or out loud for the world to here "This Too Shall Pass!" Works on stress why not on a pesky Peanut Butter craving. icon_lol.gif

I dont completely agree or disagree with the video. Those of you who read the body for life book might remember that he too said that he felt strength training was superior to cardio. You build muscle mass, in turn you are increasing your metabolism, which burns more calories. The video also states you need to reduce your caloric intake. I mean you can loose weight and never exercise. I dont know that I agree that we shouldnt be doing cardio though. It does burn calories, increases your endurance, health benefits for your heart etc. But I think we should be picking up the weights often!

I'm with you girl. It's 11:00 and I've cleaned, most of the house, baked the cakes for my first barbie cake and mixed up the BC. So I'm sitting here thinking the last of the lasagna sounds good or something with PB. But I'm chanting as I head off to bed. Keep us posted on your new toy.

DH put together the spinner last night...I burned 8 calories before my legs started burning...wow, I'm out of shape!!
I'm pretty excited, though, DH is FINALLY on board with a weight loss plan. He needs to lose quite a bit, too. So we're starting a drastically different meal plan this week, counting calories and working out. It's hard to lose weight when he's asking for pizza and fried chicken!! No more junk food and heavy meals in this house! I have NO self control, so it will be a HUGE help to have him helping me.

Merissa, is your neck feeling any better? My dr. told me once that if you take 2 Aleve four times a day, it will take down any inflammation. But you HAVE to take a Zantac or something with it, because it will irritate your stomach. It didn't work well for me, but it might help.

Shellie: Glad you are enjoying your new bike! I really plan to get back into my program this week! It really does help if your DH is on board too. It is hard when they are scarfing down pizza and you are eating broccoli. I have done pretty well today, but last night we went out for pizza. I was tired after making my cake.

My neck does feel better today. It isnt completely better, but tolerable anyway. I will try the aleve next time this happens. I am pretty sure it started with stress though because yesterday while I was working on my cake my jaw got all messed up (I do have TMJ, but most of the time it really doesnt bother me much). But yesterday it was all wierd and I couldnt close it all the way. I know I must have been clenching my teeth.

Glad you're feeling a little better, Merissa. I have TMJ, too, I keep cracking my molars from grinding my teeth. I used to get tons of headaches, but it's gotten a lot better in the past few years.

I feel like I'm finally in it. I've been so half hearted about my weight while I've been preoccupied with my back. DH and I went and bought a ton of healthy groceries today, so we have nothing but lowfat yogurt and veggies in the house. No chips or sweets. It feels really good to be taking steps to improve myself. Plus, DH and I are competitive enough that the idea that he might lose weight faster than me will keep me going.
