First of all, Elle, your "gaudy" cake just gave me an idea. Thank you! Ok, here's a fun game to play. Write down a bunch of expected nasty comments on little slips of paper. Then next time you bring in a cake, have each co worker pull a paper out of a hat. Then, when she makes the comment in front of everyone, they can all check their papers and who's ever is closest to her exact words can yell "I won!". Now THAT would be worth putting up hidden cameras so we could all see.
BTW, has she even bothered to bring in one of her "signature" cakes?

NOOOOO! Don't offer this site to her. She doesn't seem so nice. no no no! LOL. This is such a happy place. Let's keep it that way LOL! icon_lol.gif

Too bad she can't share or even just have nice conversations with you about your craft. I mean geeez, when I meet someone that is interested in the same hobby, I like to talk and even learn from them. I look forward to it, it's fun. My DH can only take so much cake info, ya know? That chick needs to relax, you do it for your enjoyment. She shouldn't feel like you are encrouching (sp?) on her "territory".

Haha! I love this!
I think you should make her offer to bring a cake for free to work. Ask her if she'd like to alternate weeks. More than likely she'll refuse and everyone will know how mean and jealous she is. lol
Next time you bring in a cake, say "now that doesn't look like it was decorated by a 5-year old, does it __(meanie's name)___?"

No one's asked the big question...in all this time that you,ve been bringing cakes, and she's been insulting yours while promoting hers...has ANYONE ordered a cake from HER?

I don't know about all of you, but I am very friendly with all of the local decorators that I know. We share information on decorating tips, where to buy certain supplies, I have even gone in on a big order with another decorator to save shipping charges.

I don't possibly have time to do a cake for every one that calls me and I wouldn't want to anyway! I've turned down 5 cakes since Sunday...will I be offended if someone else does their cake, absolutely not, the parties must go on!!!

I have seen her portfolio and she made a wedding cake for a co-worker. She will not bring a cake to work for free, says she doesn't work for free. She used to bring in a cake ervy now and then when we used to have "pot luck" meetings. I'm sure this was a plan to get customers which is fine by me. Now that some have had her samplings she will not make anyone at work a cake for free, she says she's too busy making cakes for her business to throw in freebies. I think this is what has happened. . .they used to oooohhh and ahhhhh when she would bring in pics of her recent cakes and she was the ONLY one. Now that I am baking again she's no longer "The Cake Queen". I think she feels dethroned even though that is not my intent. She has to share the spotlight and I think she no longer feels "special". I get comments like. . .OMG, you made that? That is so cute. . .Se just leaves the room. If she keeps this up too much longer I'm going to call her on it. I really hate that she can't enjoy and share this with me but I'm not gonna beg anyone for anything! My boss will not let me stop bringing cakes to the office because she's being a whiner, she loves my cakes! We'll see! I'm gonna take another Friday!

Playing devil's advocate here, this could be true. When I had the cookie contract with the dealership (Had to cancel it because I got too busy), that's what I told my co-workers. I would bring in "overbakes" on Friday .... any cookies that I had left over after sending the Friday order in. Before that, I would frequently bring in freebies, but my oven time got to be at a premium. I had to tell everyone "You want time allocated for my oven, then you need to get on the schedule. Freebies dont' get on the schedule."

So before we all get too hard on her .... it could be true.

That doesn't explain her attitude about not eating, tasting, commenting, enjoying other cakes, though.

I don't blame her for not bringing in cakes if she's busy making money. I would make $$$ aswell. It's the attitude and nasty comments I can live without. If she wants to be the reigning office Cake Queen she needs to bring one. LOL icon_lol.gificon_lol.gificon_lol.gif Maybe tomorrow I will invite her to have lunch with me and try to hash this out.

some people just feel like they need to start the day by peeing in someone else's cheerios. clearly she's in need of some attention. this behavior is very 5th grade! (is it obvious that i work with kids every day?)

you go on with your mad cake skills girl!

THAT IS HILARIOUS!

Wow. I can understand a little bit of jealousy - but would it hurt her to TASTE your cake? And she probably hasn't used anything but Wilton fondant. I tell people - if you've ever had fondant and hated it - it was probably the nasty Wilton fondant. It ruins fondant for everyone b/c it's the most readily available stuff. However, there are plenty of GOOD fondants out there that taste great - some kind of like marshmellow (LOL MMF). I like Satin Ice right now.... but how hard is it for her to take a little bite? Then she could either feel really good about herself b/c your cake is dry and not so good (which I'm sure is NOT the case), or she can ask for a recipe of yours! It seems you're pretty willing to share since you aren't in business. And is she really allowed to solicit business at her workplace? That one seems iffy to me.... I mean sure, here and there I can see a co-worker knowing she makes cakes and asking her to make one for them - but to actually hand out a price list??? There seems to be some issues there with soliciting business in the workplace........

You could ask her if she's legal.... but then she could be nasty and try to "turn you in" as well.... even though you aren't selling your creations - she could cause you some trouble....

good luck and keep being sweet!

I agree with the other posters. She wants to be the only Rooster in the Henhouse (if you'll excuse the expression)...even though you're not, she sees you as competition for her "business" and she's trying to regain a spotlight she's lost.

Take anything she says with a big grain or two of salt, and keep doing what you're doing. You are making people happy and you're not strutting your stuff parading around trying to show off, like she is now. Your cakes are DARLING and I'm JEALOUS of your skills with a clay extruder!!! Would you teach me?? thumbs_up.gif

OK heres my take- I might take a different approach. I would pull her aside and say " Hey ____ I hope your not upset that I am bringing cakes it. I know you have a business and I just like baking and certainly wouldnt want to leave all this cake at home. I hope you dont feel that I am trying to steal business from you, I dont want to go into the business and dont sell my cakes. Your portfolio is beautiful and you are clearly talented. Maybe we can exchange ideas sometime."

What is she going to say? Nothing. You boosted her ego (which obviously needs attention) and you removed the threat that she feels and perhaps she will then stop the nasty comments and grow up a little.

Whatever you decide to do, good luck with her. Your cake is adorable.

Auntie--You have stolen her thunder. SHAME ON YOU. You should feel really bad. icon_rolleyes.gificon_rolleyes.gificon_lol.gif First of all your cake was really nice. I liked it and so did my 5 year niece. She didnt think she could make it though. I believe your co-worker probably goes home after each one of your triumphs and tries to recreate whatever youve done but she can't. (Especially with cream cheese icing.) Grapes get sour after you realize you cant reach them.
You know how people who feel they have a monoply on a item will go on and on about the trials and tribulations of doing their thing..."Girl...it took me forever to do that" and, "You cant imagine how hard it is to ..." Blah Blah Blah. Then here you come weekly with a new blow to her ego. Since cake decorating is her side hustle she may be feeling you could take business away from her. Not that her smelly attitude and pettiness wont chase people away also. That being said, being the type of person I am (nice but sometimes not so much) I would bring in two cakes a week. I would understand how she may be feeling but--OH WELL.

Your cakes are beautiful. I love the "5 year old cake." It's precious.

It sounds like to me this old heifer is an only child. She's used to being the center of attention. Those kind of people make me want to smack them. I think you should just keep doing what your're doing. I love the fact that she's jealous.

Keep it up!

I did not read through all the posts, so forgive me if I repeat something someone else said.

My opinion --

If her cakes were so wonderful, you would not have ever felt the urge to bring one of your cakes in.

Furthermore -

What kind of cakes could she possibly be offering if she does not like BC, IMBC, or rolled fondant? Sounds like a pound cake, coffee cake kind of person to me.

Have you seen her pics? If she does not like bc or imbc, then what is she using to decorate her cakes. origami?

And anyone who knows me well knows that the next time she is flaunting her pictures around, I would be the bi---who would ask her that very question.

I know all only children are not like that. I didn't mean to offend. My hubby is an only child from his dad (bless his heart). He USED to be like that but finally grew out of it.

My dad was an only child and was TERRIBLE.

I'm the baby of the family and some of the characteristics still pop up every now and then.

We both agree that this woman is terribly jealous........
