Tonight was tater tot cassarole, thanks for the ump recipe! Taught my guy so now he knows about 4 meals
Tomorrow PIZZA finally! Kids love the supreme from walmart deli of all places, but at least they eat the veggies on it.
My shopping list this week:
pizza
garlic bread (already have spaghetti)
tomato soup and grilled cheese
mac'n'cheese
What else is cheap and easy? Need something with leftovers for lunches.
Tonight we had
Spaghetti (made with ground turkey) topped with shredded cheese
Garlic Bread
Pepsi
Zmama--Yes last night burger and fries were made here at home. The fries were the prepackaged ones though.
Ok here goes. I hope I don't miss anyone.
I am thankful for all the warm wishes. Cause now we are melting ![]()
(good and bad) At least for today ![]()
I hope joanmary, daltonam, Zmama's DD, and peacock and DS get well soon. And I hope the high temp. wasn't something bad like phnumonia(sp) That is scarey. I hope everyone else stays in good health.
Monica I am planning some spaghetti not sure if I will make it tonight or not. It was suppose to be last night.
Ohara How do you make your pizza bread?? And your ham and beans do you use northern beans or what?? My Grandpa always used vinegar so I do to.
Mouse Your recipe sounds good also. And welcome looking forward to more good recipes.
juju Good luck with Jazmyne. I don't walk past the clothes at Wal-Mart with DD if I can help it ![]()
And you had to say Pizza Hut ![]()
I am cravin big time.
Daltonam DS and I are requesting your deer nugget recipe. It sounds interesting ![]()
Knox I have never had black-eyed peas. They sound good though. We have ham with northern beans YUMMY
And now I have to try your corn pudding recipe. I am trying to decide if I want to make it for my supper tonight or spaghetti. And dang on the matterss ![]()
At least you won't have a wet booty no more.
Zmama your scalloped potatoes are just like my Grandmas. My mouth is watering now. And a cheap easy meal with leftovers that kids even love. I make a chili mac so simple. I don't have measurements really. I boil my macaroni Then drain, put back in pan, add cooked off hamb(I cook off hamb ahead and have it for dishes just like this, nuke it a few minutes and there you go). Then open a few cans of tomato soup dump in(how many depends on how much mac you cook off. Add a can of chili beans. I shake on some chili powder. I also add chunks of velvetta cheese to it. Stir and let sit awhile till cheese gets melty. My kids totally love this meal. I make alot and they live on it for a few days
I hope this recipe makes sence. It is cheap and easy. I always use generic soup and beans.
I hope I got everyone. And Happy belated New Year to everyone

I need a good taters au gratin recipe that doesn't require onions or cream of mushroom soup. Anyone have one?
hey juju can't you sub cr of celery or cr of chicken?? And you could alter spices and herbs. Like garlic if you like. I am all for subbing different things
I am not a mushroom person so cr of chic. or cr of celery are my favs. ![]()
I need a good taters au gratin recipe that doesn't require onions or cream of mushroom soup. Anyone have one?
INGREDIENTS:
3 cups diced cooked potatoes (I just micro-bake mine for like 15 minutes whole--still in the peel---prick 'em first so they don't explode in the microwave---then just take 'em out and slice 'em up thinly)
6 tablespoons butter or margarine-divided
3 tablespoons flour
1 1/2 cups milk
1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
salt and pepper
1 cup soft bread crumbs
PREPARATION:
Place potatoes in a shallow, broilerproof baking dish. (I spray mine with PAM first) In a saucepan over medium-low heat, melt 6 tablespoons butter. Remove 3 tablespoons of butter to a cup or bowl; Now toss the soft bread crumbs with that extra 3 tablespoons of butter. Let 'em sit while you prep your cheese sauce.
To the remaining 3 tablespoons of butter in the saucepan, add flour. Stir to blend well; gradually stir in milk. Continue cooking, stirring constantly, until sauce is thick and smooth. Add cheese and continue stirring until cheese is melted. Pour sauce over potatoes in baking dish; mix gently. Sprinkle buttered bread crumbs evenly over potatoes. Bake potatoes au gratin at 400° for about 15 minutes to heat through, then broil until golden brown.
My husband's partner is a PICKY EATER! He's a "texture freak." Example-he won't eat deviled eggs that have pickle CHUNKS in them--he'll only eat them if they're SMOOTH. (So I just use pickle JUICE instead of the actual pickle RELISH like for normal people.) He won't eat meatloaf with onions and peppers in it. So---if I'm cooking for him, I only use onion powder, etc. When he eats vegetables, they have to be separate from the meat. If he eats salad, blah...blah...blah.
So I make this for him and DH when they come home to eat dinner. This doesn't have chunks of anything except for potatoes.
Anyway--he loves these potatoes. I do, however---add onion powder to this and spice it up a little bit with my "house blend" seasoning: Equal parts pepper and garlic and two parts sea salt.
Hope you like it,
--Knox--
Peacockplace...hoping and praying for health in your home! ![]()
Dalton...you'd better get well soon....the big game is Monday!!
Mouse...don't you just love when a new recipe turns out well? Thanks for posting the recipe and Welcome!
Zmama.... How about chicken and noodles or beef and noodles, they are cheap and easy. My kids have always loved "tuna wiggle", boxed mac n cheese with tuna stirred in. DS only eats tuna this way.
Kay...I made my pepperoni bread with my Italian bread recipe. After the first rise, I punched it down, kneaded it again then rolled it out in about a 9x13 shape. Then I sprinkled it lightly with a garlic cheese and herb mix( buy it from GFS) then I added about 1/2 cup of mozzerella cheese and pepperonis. You can use more or less pepperoni by what your family likes. I used about 18-24 pieces...my ds said it was just right. Then I rolled it up...13" side, when I got to the end pinch it shut and tuck ends under.Place on a oiled cookie sheet or a baking stone.Brush with olive oil. Let rise agian(30-45 min.). Bake for 30 min at 350. I just used jar pizza sauce for dipping.
And yes I use northern beans, in my ham and beans.
Knox... hope you love your new mattress. I hate spending that kind of money on something that may/or may not be comfortable to me. But as said before...atleast no more wet booty. ![]()
Last night I made Italian chicken with linguini
peas
bread
THANKS EVERYONE, I'M STILL IN BED, HEAD'S GOING TO EXPLODE AT ANY MINUTE!!!
DINNER TABLE WELCOME TO MOUSE, I WASN'T SURE IF U WERE A NEWBIE TO THIS THREAD
- WHEN BOSS LADY WELCOMED U, I REALIZED U WERE!!!
daltonam, I think there's a bug going around here in gator country! I feel yucky too and my middle son has had a fever for three days. Yesterday it was 104.8
OMGoodness--i would have freaked out, please tell me it went down quickly, poor child
Daltonam DS and I are requesting your deer nugget recipe. It sounds interesting
it's just what DH calls deer steak, but really it's just the meat cut up in thin nuggets, i salt, pepper, garlic & flour it, then fry--i don't eat bambi
, but everyone else in the family likes it
Ohara--about the big game--i'm going to be SOOO upset if my throat is still hurting & i can't scream for my Gators (or
scream at them)
oh that pizza bread sounds great!!
knox--ur DH is pickier than me, well maybe not
---but i can't wait to try that recipe--yummy
i'm gonna have to start a file for all of these yummy recipes
I love the table! So many yummy recipes and conversation going on here!
Peacock--Is your son acting lathargic or is he just burning up? My word
I'd be scared to see a temp that high for one of my kids too!
All of you sickies need to get better so you can actually eat and enjoy what you're putting on the table.
Knox---matresses are just too expensive but worth the good nights sleep.
Ohara- your pep. bread sound delishious!!!!
zmama-now that's my kind of grocery list (simple yet tastes good)
Mouse--WELCOME TO THE TABLE!
butterfly-do you use ground turkey often. I know it's healthier but the texture throws me off---am I cooking it wrong?
Monica--my friend does the pure romance parties and she loves it! Are you a little on the wild side like she is but in hiding? Just kidding.
Tonight is going to be: Homemade Cream of Broccholi soup with chesse
with a masquite turkey brest sandwich on the side for DH. (sorry ladies but I'm just not a turkey fan---never have cared for it---but I'm trying to learn to like it because it's so much healthier for you) My kids are eating at my MIL's tonight because I have a lot of house work and re-arranging rooms to do today. My DH pays almost $300 a month for 1 room in an office and he hardly ever uses it! So I have to start clearing out a bedroom we use for storage here at home and then we plan on sound proofing it for his office. Spending $300 for an office he only uses about 4-6 times a month for a few hours each time is crazy for us on such a tight budget.

sound-proofing????? why?? what kind of work does he do? i'm so noisy ![]()
Well, y'all--
I just got an order for a cake for my friend who had burned herself about a month ago. Remember how her pants went up in flames, and she got 3rd degree burns on her left leg?
Well, her daughter just called this evening and wants to give her a cake because the doctor just gave her the green light to get back to daily life! ![]()
I had asked for ideas in the "ideas" forum, but didn't get any---So---I'm going to make a pair of blue jeans with some lil' flames going up one side and say on it, "You gave a new meaning to the term, "HOT PANTS!"
Corny but effective!
Tonight's dinner was:
Pot roast with gravy
Smashed red potatoes
Steamed carrots, broccoli and cauliflower
Fresh tea with lemons
--Knox--
DH fixed breakfast tonight & guys i still feel like crap ![]()
knox--i love the saying for the cake--i've got one coming up & i'm clueless, it's for a little boy
Dalton- Hope you feel much better real soon. Good hubby for making dinner ![]()
Knox....cute idea for the cake. Awesome that she got the green light.
Your pot roast with gravy and potatos sounds yummy!!!
mkolmar....hope your cleaning and rearranging goes quick. My Dh has an office at home also. Good idea sound proofing. Your soup sounds good.
Tonight we had leftovers...We spent the day at Childrens Hospital. My 10 yr. old DD slammed her thumb in the dishwasher
. Yes in the dishwasher. She did it yesterday and didn't complain about it (she has aspergers and one of the characteristics is a high pain tolerence.) She mentioned it last night to her dad about slamming it in the dishwasher so I asked her to show me. Well, lets just say that her thumb shouldn't go that direction. It turns out it is broken. So they put a cast on it and sent us home (after a lot of waiting.....we were at it 6 hours)
It was a traumatic day for her but she's doing better tonight.
Anyone know whats become of Morningglories? Sure do miss her.
I found a taters au gratin casserole that we liked. It uses velveeta and we all love cheese. Only thing is was missing a little in spices. I always make it into a casserole by adding chunks of ham and a can of drained corn. I looked it up on the Kraft Foods website.
Edited to say: I cook my turkey just like I would my ground beef for spaghetti. I just cook it in a pan and crumble it. I only use the turkey for spahetti or hamburger helper. I had never used it before but we started getting Angel Food www.angelfoodministries.com. So I try to find ways to use it.
Hey daltonam I hope you get to feeling better real soon. And I saw your thread for the little guys B-Day cake. What about a cars cake. At about 2 my DS was totally into hotwheels. So now with the CARS movie maybe do something with that. I have the one (actually the second CARS one I did in my pics) The second one was for a 1 yr old and he loved the little cars as a bonus gift. Just a thought. Hey and do you deep fry bambi or pan fry?? And is it garlic salt or crushed garlic?? YES we love our bambi. Hey and they make the chloriseptic(sp) for a reason ![]()
Juju glad you found a good recipe
CHEESE ![]()
![]()
I have a good casserole you might want to try. Fry yourself up some of them tators you love. Put them in the bottom of a casserole dish, on top of that add cooked off chicken shreaded or chunks on top of that spread a can or 2 of cr. chicken soup, spread it around(you can mix them and then spread but easy is better in my book) Then top with slices of velveta and bake TOTALLY YUMMY ![]()
Ohara I have heard of your DD problem and I hope she is doing Good. I feel for her right now I would like to take away her trauma right now. Give her some KISSES and HUGS from me. I can't imagine having a child with that(well maybe) not the same but I have a boy and a DH that get hurt and tape it up and go on like nothing happened. And I hate it ![]()
![]()
My DH has no feeling in a couple of his fingers now because of it. It isn't because I didn't take him to to doc just cause he is stubborn and won't go now DS is just like him ![]()
![]()
I pray for your DD and her problem. And we will need to tell MOM of the table to round up her kiddos and get them back here
Glories is probably a busy little baker or she is on a good power lounging trip ![]()
![]()
![]()
I hope all is good for her and no sickness is going on ![]()
Knox good to her your friend is on the mend ![]()
My friend would totally get a kick out of your cake if it had happened to her. I didn't see you request for help. But I didn't get on till later. But you got a cute idea I can't wait to see your cake. I am going to make a roast tomorrow were you reading my mind?? But I am going to do mine in the oven. I got my MIL recipe put roast in roaster add tators, carrots, celery and what ever else you want. Dump in a can of cr. celery, can of cr. chic. lipton onion soup mix a can of water. and bake about (4hrs?) Totally YUMMY
Hey MOM did you see the request to round up glories??
And for supper tonight at our house. I babysat so I made the spaghetti last night so kiddos had that. DS made his own chili and cheese creation. I made DH some chicken nuggets. Not sure yet what I will have. I am thinking strongly about knox's corn pudding. But my brain is saying you really should eat a salad tonight ![]()
So not sure yet what I will decide. Who Am I kidding anything fattening will win
![]()
juju--i've never heard of them. can anyone buy these packages? do u see a money savings?
kayc--well i thought i was a little better yesterday afternoon so i didn't go to the doctor, well.....last night i could of hurt someone for some chloraseptic (had to look that word up-lol) spray, my throat was at it's worst, so i'm fixing to go get dressed (haven't been since Wed.) & go to the drug store to get WHATEVER i can find....i'll let y'all know what that is when i get back-haha
Dalt, My DH does computers (everything but programing them) We have to sound proof because our kids are horribly loud even when trying to be quiet because there is 4 of them (ages 6,4,3 and 1 1/2) The youngest 2 kids love to whin and cry a lot. The older 2 are either getting along or arguing. I can't seem to win in this house. My DH works really long hours too. When he's off the clock he is still working doing paperwork and whatever else he does, hence the soundproofing. Too bad I don't have a soundproof room to excape to during the day. The kids are pretty well behaved just loud and constantly looking for mommy. I feel some days like they are the hunters and I am the prey ![]()
Tonight will more than likely be leftovers.
I'm attempting my 1st fondant cake today
I'm scared ya'll.

I would be soooooo embarrassed.
Thats just me & its ok you made the mistake. I totally dont mind ![]()
I also laughed when you said you are making your first fondant cake & your scared. I was scared my first one too. I think I made the fondant TOO thick, it really weighed down the cake. I ended up having to take the fondant off the cake, then it split
I hope you have better luck ![]()
gosh maybe I should not tell you all that ![]()
Daltonam I hope you are feeling better ![]()
Kay- I am glad you all made it ok throught that storm. I was worried about you all.

Hey Y'all!
Well, finished the "hot pants" blue jeans cake and delivered it tonight. Now my kitchen looks like a family from the 'ville lives here.
I have to get in there and clean up all the crap from last night's dinner that my lazy youngest wouldn't clean up, PLUS cake stuff from tonight's order. ![]()
![]()
![]()
So, tonight's dinner is easy: Fish sticks, macaroni and veggies.
--Knox--
Kay--that recipe sounds yummy. I'm always looking for ways to cook chicken.
Tara--They have host sites in Florida it says. A church is the host site. Yes it's for anyone who wants to get it. The website lists the food they will have each month. It has saved us a lot in food buying. If it has a lot of something we like in the month's package we'll buy two.
Supper tonight was make your own burritoes. I fixed the burger and refried beans together. Fried some soft taco shells and melted some Velveeta. It was yummy.
