Knox... are you feeling better ( other than the mental break down)???
Girl, you are amazing... I will be doing good to get my stuff together for Christmas let alone all those cakes.
Take a deep breath....that's right, now let it out. You can do this. ![]()
Monica...welcome back. Are you almost done with your shopping?
Dodi...yes join the demented club. We can use all the support we can get.
Pecan crusted tilapia, and cheese grits. YUM I grew up in Florida and was raised on grits.
Peacockplace... I like cereal for dinner. I just wish that my family agreed.
Gloria...glad to have you back.
butterflyjuju...I am a pinch of this and a handful of that cook and baker. I usually follow a new receipe the first time, then sort of do my own thing.
Kay...we also use special ornaments. Ones the kids have made or friends have given us. We also get the kids a new ornament each year marking their year some how. So we also have alot of ornaments from over the years.
mkolmar.....hope your feeling much better.
Tonight ....Pepper steak with gravy over rice,
peas
dinner rolls.
I felt like a culinary wiz tonight so we had leftovers
I'm to tired to cook right now, I'm feeling much better though! Unfortunantly 3 of my little ones are sick and demanding to sleep in my bed with their knees in my back as I hang off the side holding on for dear life! Don't worry, as soon as I wake back up their little butts get put right back into their own beds.
Knox --how's the straight jacket fitting?
BEST OF LUCK with all those orders, you know you can do it!!!
Peacock--I had cereal for lunch today so that sounds ok (but just for today because I had some too
)
Monica and Gloria--Glad your back, not the same at the table without you both.
Dodi and Ohara---you both are nuts and demented about the old candy thing, but I like the idea and have decided to do the same next year at Halloween here for those greedy teens.
Kay, love the special ornaments idea
juju--just to let you know what my instructor said to our class the difference between a chef and a cook is a cook follows a recipe to a T and the chef creates!
Tonight was fix your own burritoes with rice.
Toppings are shredded cheese, Velveeta, sour cream, ketchup, and salsa. I make the burrito filling and warm up some tortillas. The kids won't eat tortillas but found out recently they'll eat taco shells. So I'm going to buy them some for burritoes and tacos.
I always measure the important stuff like in pumpkin pie, the amount of pumpkin, oil, etc. but I always just dump in the spices.
Tonight's Menu

DISASTER!!!
I made a homemade Tomato soup with Rice & Italian meatballs. I did not have my glasses on and turned the burner knob to High Heat instead of Simmer. ![]()
Thank Goodness my 8yr old has a keen sense of smell and alerted me to my mistake before it really burned.
Big problem though, DH who would eat my version of Alpo if there was nothing else, refused to eat any of my soup! ![]()
Kiddo's & I ate it with Parmesan cheese and Italian herbed bread with no adverse side effects. Sure it tasted a little bit like I had grilled the meatballs but it was edible.
22 yr old DD said it was good and then added," But I'm sick mom and can't really taste anything."
That was all DH needed to hear to not even venture into the kitchen. FINE...!
I told Tara that I hated cooking and wasn't very good at it, but she invited me to come post in this thread anyway.
So now here I am wishing there was a thread that was called 'Dinner Disaster's' instead of 'Cake Disaster's'.
I'll read the rest of y'alls post tommorrow even though I know I would probably feel better if I read them now. But I'm going to sleep before I become a pressure cooker instead of tea kettle. ![]()
PS: Just realized it is tommorrow. Man I wanted my new day to start better. ![]()
Ok we had Tatortot casserole. Something kind of easy dump, dump and bake.
Speaking of baking ![]()
Knox WOW girl I know were you having intuition about these orders or did you know before you weren't feeling well?? You are CRAZY GIRL you had me ROFLMAO By the way your steak sounds great will that be your last good meal for awhile?? Good luck and hope to her from you from time to time to keep the table informed ![]()
Welcome back monica and glories and glad we can add a new member to our demented candy giver group ![]()
![]()
![]()
mkolmar Don't you love knees in your back My DD will climb in between DH and I and fling hers arms and legs across each of us Just spread eagle taking the covers off as she does it.
Monica my bro is doing better. He went on home to his house. The doc said he my not ever remember the accident and could have some short term memory loss. They will have to wait and see. They wired (or banded I should say) his jaw he has an appointment with the oral surgeon tomorrow. They stistched his chin up and it is looking good. He had 12 stitches to close a pinky size whole in his chin. It was clean through and got infected thanks to the hospital ![]()
His friend an EMT that found him said his head went through the windshield and possible glass shards pierced his lip(chin) and tongue. He looked a lot better today when I saw him. Stiff and sore but getting better
He is a tuffy Thank God
juju yum burritos sound good
Glories we posted about the same time so sorry to here your Disaster
I can totally relate to the situation. I guess you goota start that one. I will contribute to it also as well as many other CC addicts. I burn things when I am on CC Or just the plain disasters got those also ![]()
![]()
Tomorrow is a better day ![]()
Hey yall. Thanks for the welcome backs. I love you all ![]()
I can not remember who asked what but I will try to remember it:
Ohara-I have not gotten all my shopping done. I need to finish it up on Saturday & or Sunday.
Kay- I am glad your brother is better
Give him a BIG ole hug from Monica. ![]()
Knox- ![]()
Dang girl at all your orders. If we lived closer I would come help you.
We would have a hoot in the kitchen together. Heck you may have me laughing so hard I would not be worth a crap ![]()
Morningglories-sorry about your diasaster.
Edited cause I forgot to put what I had for dinner last night. DUA me!!
Cheesy Potato Soup & Garlic Crossiants.
mkolmar- I hope all is better at your house. I hate knees in my back when I am sleeping.
Can I be demented too?
We're having soup and grilled cheese, our agreed upon comfort food. Canned chicken noodle and tomato (separately!) since I have finals this week.
tonight was grilled Ham steak, green beans, crescent rolls and home fries. The sick kids also got tomato soup just in case they didn't eat the other.
I got sent home today from school by one of the Chefs. She said that I looked pail and she knows that my kids are sick so to pick up and go home right now! I felt bad leaving but my work was 2/3 of the way done and there really wasn't much left to do, so I did as I was told and left. I think I'm much better but just ran down from taking care of the kids and not getting much sleep. I've had 11 hours of sleep since Sunday night so I'm not in the best of moods to be taking care of sick kids but what's a mommy to do but suck it up and move on. Pray for me though: I took my final on Tuesday and only had 2 hours of sleep that night.
Glories, disasters happen but you adapted and overcame the dinner situation so I give you an A +++
Glad your bro. is doing well Kay and is back home! ![]()
Tonight's Menu: Prepared by DH
************
Clam Chowder
Fresh Baked Bread
************
Day light broke with me in a much better mood. Sorry for being such a ninny about it. Now, on to dinner conversation.
************
PEA...Cereal for dinner is better than nothing. Sometimes all we want is cereal, popcorn, or salad. It all depends on our mood and which season we're in. When you're real busy putting off any meal is easy to do.
MONI...We were both missing from the table this weekend. But we remembered what we ate. With as busy as we both have been it's nice to know memory retention is still there. The Cheesy Potato Soup & Garlic Croissants, you had last night sounds perfect for some of the cold nights we have been having. I'll have to see if I'm brave enough to try another soup night.
KNOX...Your cake plate may be overflowing but I'm sure you'll be able to deal with it successfully. I look forward to you posting them all. Even if I have to wait till the New Year. Pan fried sirloins with grilled onions/garlic, Mmmm. I love fried foods. No peeking at my arteries y'all.
OHARA...Glad to be back, although it is nice when we visit older DD and SIL. She is a great cook, but this weekend we worked in her garage so dinners were simple. Her DH is buying her a freezer. She had to make room for it and called her mommy for help. It was good quality time as well as a little break for her and I. DH's did a great job taking care of kiddos and cats. Your Pepper steak with gravy over rice is a meal my DH would surely love, and I'm sure it does taste wonderful.
ZmamaI like your Comfort food. Good Luck studying for your Finals.
MK...Sorry the process of getting better is slow in coming. I know the jack-n-the -box syndrome very well. We have kiddos in our bed when they are sick, getting sick, scared, or whenever they can sneak in. No sleep for mom, but their Poppa can sleep through it all. Your dinner tonight sounds like a good candidate for leftovers tomorrow, if any is left
Thanks for all the A+s in Effort. That means a lot to me.
JUJU...Burritos a'la you fix it, is a lot of fun at our house. Taco's too. The kids love being able to make it their way. The bonus is that they eat everything.
KC...DGS loves Tater-tots and so does the little one I baby-sit. May I please have the dump, dump recipe? It would be a new hot lunch for them to enjoy. Very nice to hear your DB is at home, hopefully his recovery will be complete and without to much pain. Well as you read, today has been better. Thank you for your empathy. I'm okay with being in the Elite group of 'Dinner Disaster's' here, but if I started a new one I would have to admit to being a lousy cook to all of CC. I'm scared just thinking about it.
So, where are all the young ones, and Our Hostess? Girls behave and come to the table. Mom is to busy baking and caking to be chasing you down.
Everyone have a great evening. Keep warm and well fed.
Glories
I told Tara that I hated cooking and wasn't very good at it, but she invited me to come post in this thread anyway.
no no no no no!!!
NO DINNER DISASTER'S THREAD, we will all just have to work through all of our disasters TOGETHER ![]()

--your disaster gave me thought of what to do with the meatballs that i have, so see....THANKS!!!
TONIGHT WAS..
Chicken 'n Dumplins
Rolls
Sweet Tea
Pound Cake w/Peaches (that i put up every year--yummo)
Well I just wrote a long post. Then I erased it. It was just complaining and whining. So instead I will be thankful for all I have (crappy stuff too
)
mkolmar...I am so sorry you and yours are having such a rough go of it. I am praying for you and your family. Hope you all recover very soon.
Zamam....the more the demented in the club, the better
Good luck on your finals.
Monic...I've never had garlic crossiants. Did you make them or do you buy them? A good crossiant is a weakness for me.
kay....My DH loves tatortot casserole. I usually fix it when I have to be out at night....I mix it and leave it and they pop it in the oven.
Gloria....I'm glad that today you woke in a better mood. And you didn't sound like a ninny just frustrated. I hate when I plan and execute a dinner and it doesn't turn out how I envisioned it.
Tara...where have you been? Welcome back. Chicken and dumplings sound great.
Tonight....DH and I went out... I had 1/2 a chicken quesadilla and a frozen margarita.
Jennifer
We had cheese burgers, with leftover--mashed potatoes, corn, green beans, and mac and cheese. Had to make room in the fridge.
Ok, I'm goofy ya'll so I'm going to have to go back and read the last couple of pages but I wanted to say hey!
My in-laws have me doing 4 9in cakes and 3 12in cakes with chocolate transfer of their logo. I know they are trying to help us out since money is tight right now (always is at the end of the semester-come on Jan-gotta love student loans!+they can write it off as a business expense!) but this on top of all the other stuff I'm doing. I'm making goodies to give as gifts cause flour is cheap! So far I have got all but 3 layers baked and I have made 10 coco cones, peppermint cookies, biscotti, pralines (makes me miss New Orleans just a tiny bit!) and sugar cookies! Aaaaahhhh!
Last night made pot roast and tonight we had the left overs!
I'll catch up soon! I promise!!!
dori
tonight will be chicken stir-fry more than likely.
OK, someone please post the tater tot casserole recipe for those who don't have it, in other words ME! ![]()
dodi-wow, girl your busy! Make sure to take a long nap when your done.
Kids are doing much better
Which I'm glad because I have to go out of town (about an 1 1/2 away) on Friday and come back Saturday morning and I refused to leave them until they were acting much better. Thanks for all the well wishes, they are working ![]()
Tonight was burritos ala Fiance. Lunch was Cheese-pickle-mayo sandwiches ala DD - yummy
. I'm back in the kitchen tomorrow, so it'll be tacos (homemade is BACK!) and nothing fast or frozen till Sunday.
Starting the Christmas candies tonight finally. YAY!
Fried potaotes and cheeseburger macaroni hamburger helper.
Evenin' Y'all! ![]()
I baked, mixed, rolled and patted ALL day today!
My poor ol' achin' feet, y'all!
I felt quite a bit better today than I have been feeling. I really think what was making me feel like death warmed over was the water pills the doc gave me. They make me feel all "washed out"--add that to the upset stomach, and it was all I could do to move around for like 3 days. WHEW! Am I glad that's over... ![]()
Thanks to everyone for your well wishes and prayers!
This evening was:
BBQ Shake-N-Bake chicken thighs
Italian pasta salad
Green beans
Iced tea w/ lemons
(Rum cake)
--Knox--
Glad you're feeling better knoxiegirl! My feet sympathize with ya!
I threw together some frozen ravioli and green beans since I'm still working on those &%#@ cakes for my in-laws. I'm almost done with the chocolate transfers.
I think I'll be taking a cake sabbatical after all this!
Knox... glad your feeling better.
dodi...sounds like you've got your hands full with those cakes.
Where is everyone... must be busy with getting ready for the holidays.
I was busy all day helping a friend.
So.. Tonight we had Pizza
Tommorow we have a wedding to attend so I won't have to cook tommorow night either.
Jennifer
O'HARA: Mmmmm. Wedding food. Yum!
DODI: Yes, Girl! Cake sabbatical! I'm there!

JUJU: Makin' them fried taters again. Yummm. Love it.
ZMAMA: I love kid sandwiches. And the pickle sammich you described would fit me to a T.
MKOLMAR: Chicken stir-fry. How do you do yours? Sounds great. Glad the kiddos are better. That's a load off you for sure.
DALTONAM: Girl, that pound cake with peaches? Yeah. Two orders up to TN asap, please.
MORNINGGLORIES: Your Old Man makes bread?? Seriously?? *rolls eyes wistfully and dreams of such lovliness in life*
Still baking and squirting today. GAH! The Old Man decided to take us all out for a nice dinner tonight. To the tune of like $90 for the three of us.
It's nice every once in a great while, though. I have to say--it was really wonderful to have someone ELSE do the cooking. Boy was it good. I just don't like to spend up the money like that. Not when I can have BBQ for all of us and go home STUFFED TO THE GILLS for like $40 max! (I'm an old scrooge I reckon.)
I had:
Lamb chops (charbroiled with mint au jus)
Scallops rockefeller (YUMM-O!)
Baked potato
Salad w/ranch
Tea w/lemon
DH had:
Crab cakes
White cheddar garlic poatatoes
Scallops rockefeller
Tea
DS had:
Grilled salmon w/papaya salsa
Steamed broccoli/vegetables
Root beer
WONDERFUL DINNER!
--Knox--
Ok last night was my what ever you can find to eat. DD had to dance at the mall. So DD had some left over chicken and bisquits from Wed. I made me some fried potatoes YUMMY.
Tonight I had to babysit. So they had scrambled eggs and hashbrowns. I don't know what DH and I will have yet.
Zmama My DD makes me peanutbutter sandwhiches. The only pickle person in our house is DH so we don't have those here.
Ohara and mkolmar My dump recipe for tator tot casserole is dump tots in bottom of baking dish. I already have cooked off hamb in freezer. I nuke it for a few min. to thaw. In a bowl I put that in there, dump in 2 cans cream potato soup, 1 can cream of celery, 1 can of french cut green beans, and alittle chedar cheese and milk. Stir and dump on the tots then top that with more tots and cheese. And bake. It helps having the cooked off hamb.
Knox glad you got a break from the kitchen and I am with you about savin the bucks. It's good to have a nice meal but to me doing it for cheap is even better.
I hope I didn't miss to much. I been a busy baker candy maker.

Stouffer's Lasagna
Meager Meals as I am to busy and to kitchen shy to try another homemade meal. I'm glad everyone is starting to get better.
To Our Hostess: Don't worry about the Dinner Disaster thread really happening. I just meant if there was one, I probably would post on there more, than here. ![]()
To MOM: HA HA HA
Yeah DH bakes bread on his way home from work when he goes by the bakery. I use to love baking bread, but haven't in years. Don't know why.
To All My Supper Mates: I miss talking to you. I do read your post, just don't have the time now to comment on them.
Tonight is date night. I know I failed to answer the question one of you asked about that. To refresh the memory the question was, "What is date night?" For me date night was my 20th Wedding Anniversary gift from my DH. When he asked me what I wanted I told him, "Date nights". I figured I had invested 20 yrs without them, so I was calling in the debt. Providing we live for 20 yrs more from then, I will continue to have a date night. ![]()
Everyone: Please continue to get better, Keeping Warm & Loved.
Gloria
Tonight was BBQ little smokies and fried taters.
Something quick and easy because I forgot to take my allergy meds and have been fighting a headache all day.
Good evening yall ![]()
I am pooped. Last night I baked 24 cupcakes & made icing for my cupcake cake. I decorated it tonight. I really do not like how it yurned out.
Oh well the customer loved it. She picked it up tonight. Thats all that matters. ![]()
So last night & tonight since I was in the kitchen all I had was cake & icing scraps for dinner. I do not get hungry when I bake. Are you all like this?
KNOX- I am glad your better, but I think I have the same thing
YUCK I hate feeling weird, stomachie feelings.
JUJU- Dang girl I need to come & stay with you I love fried tators. I can fix some yummy ones.
DODI- you cracked me up saying "knoxiegirl"
Dang I laughed so hard at that. Its a cute nickname.
Yall I will chat with yall later. I have a huge weekend planned. So if I am MIA do not be alarmed. I will come back,.. maybe
(just kidding)![]()
Knox - You're not a scrooge, just saving for a new kitchen!
Kay - That cassarole sounds good! Trying it next week.
MorningGlories - There are tons of EASY recipes out there if you want some. But pizza sounds good too!
Butterfly - Gee, I only get those at parties. Do you put grape jelly in yours? REALLY good added to the BBQ
Monica - Never hungry when I bake. I think it's all the samples..
No one wanted tacos, just junk food. Since the kids are both tiny as it is, junk food won out. Pretzels, popcorn, and Spam - don't ask, HE buys it! I had cake scraps and caramel, and Diet Coke.
with my DH an 1 1/2 away from home so I'll explain my chicken-stir fry later Knox since we have to leave in a few minutes. Thanks for the tater tot recipe, it sounds good and I'm so hungry right now I wish I had some in front of me.
Last night at a christmas party for one of my DH's clients (this is why I'm not at home right now) Food was GREAT!!!!! I had 1 drink, an ameretto sour and I haven't had a drink in years because I'm usually pregnant or nursing so why not enjoy it? It was good too
Appetizers were crackers, bread sticks, gormet cheese, veggies and dip, and good quality deli meat, roasted peppers also. (that's what I ate, there was more) Than dinner was a big ol' tender piece of beef, creamy risotto with sprinkled on chives, bread and a salad. Time to go back home now and get all christmas stuff in order. My kids actually pulled our fake tree out of the box and where trying to assemble it themselves. My 6 year old (the oldest) was trying to desifer the instructions! I said to be patient and we will put it up soon but my daughter and son yelled that we've been telling that for over 2 weeks now
I laughed and promised when we came home from DH's party we will put it up for them. Poor things have been so patient waiting and just can't take it anymore! Time for the tree to get up and decorated.
DALTONAM: Girl, that pound cake with peaches? Yeah. Two orders up to TN asap, please.
i'll be there thursday, but i'll be at the school monday & tuesday (just like ALL of last week) so i'm so so sorry, but
i won't have time to bake you one ![]()
please forgive me, please.
Poor things have been so patient waiting and just can't take it anymore! Time for the tree to get up and decorated
glad i wasn't the only one without a tree up yet ![]()

DS--clothes & (MP3 from aunts)
DD--clothes & (bike from aunts)
KIDS TOGETHER got karaoke machine
DH--shirts & much needed jeans
ME--jacket, purse, hat-gloves-scarf set
WE got some money too
i just love my family, they knew we couldn't afford some of the things our kids were wanting, i've already told our kids, it was the prepaid trip (motel been paid for) or it was staying home & we could have gifts, i really hope they understand, it's just so hard for them to sometimes
(sorry i didn't mean to start complaining
, i think it's going to be leftover tomorrow night
)
Hey yall.
I just got through eating my dinner. I had a grilled cheese sandwich & a couple of cheese puffs. I am still sickie feeling. I have not eaten much today.
DALTON. Are you really going to be in Tennessee Thursday?
daltonam - Complain all ya need to! It's tight everywhere this year, though hopefully next year will be better. We spent about $50/kid but they'll be gone. "Santa" will visit them at their father's house, which helps.
mkolmar - enjoy your time out! The food sounds WONDERFUL!!!
Tonight was spaghetti - yum! Didn't eat till almost 10pm, but at least it was REAL food. The kids are going through a not eating phase, so cooking is almost a waste. Driving me nuts, but we've been here before and will get through it again. I think growth spurts are coming, the way they're acting overall. New clothes AFTER Christmas again! No sense buying them yet.
